for some reason, my web application can not connect to my SQL 2000
my application is based on .net 2.0 (IIS 5.1) using vs 2005
workstation does not install any sql server
sql 2000 locates at the remote server.
the sql server can be connected via vs environment (data connnection), therefore, i think the connection string, server name and instance name is correct
i have tried all the solution i can find online, but it is not working
LocalSQLServer connection string has been removed in GobalSetting
also remove all default connection string in web.config (<clear />)
aspnet_regsql can register the sql 2000 db successful
vs 2005 can access and display the data in sql 2000 quite well
has been reboot lots of times.
still bug out

Hi,I need some help. I am getting this error after I complete the asp.net register control and click on the continue button. It crashed when it tries to get it calls this Profile property((string)(this.GetPropertyValue("Address1")));When I look at the stack, it is coming from my ProfileWrapper class which adds user address, city, etc.. from a class which inherits fromSystem.Web.Profile.ProfileBase. From the stack, it is calling the System.Web.Profile and crashed when it tries to open a connection atSystem.Data.ProviderBase.DbConnectionPool.GetConnection(DbConnection owningObject). I already migrated all aspnet_user, aspnet_roles, etc.. and don't get any connection errors. It is only when I try to get the profile data. I'm trying to connect to Desktop SQL Server 2000 from Windows mobile PC Emulator (VS 2005). I need a direct connection using connection string to SQL Server 2000 through local wireless network without IIS.
Bellow is the code that I use. After executing this code I get an error on line Conn.Open(). Error says SQL Server does not exist or access denied. SQL is un and running, and I can log in using SA username from the desktop. Even if I chance IP for another SQL server in my connection string I still get the same error. There is no firewall of any kind running.

About my environment: SQL Server 2000 is running on Desktop PC with Windows XP SP2. Application which I need to connect to SQL Server is in Visual Studio 2005. I execute the application in Windows Mobile PC Emulator and try to connect to SQL Server from emulator.
I have a web application developed in VS.NET 2005 [using C# as code behind]; and it uses SQL Server 2000 Enterprise edition as backend. The application runs fine, though it gives an error on IRREGULAR intervals on SQL data requests. Error Details: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. My problem is this: 1) Why does it show an error of SQL 2005, while I use SQL 2000. SQL 2005 is not even installed on the server, though VS.NET 2005 is installed. 2) The error comes only at irregular intervals. Users are able to login properly otherwise. 3) Application starts working again if we do either of the following: (a) Restart IIS (b) Restart application pool (c) Restart server. 4) Named pipes and TCP/IP are added to the "Network Configuration" of the SQL server 2000. 5) Error does not come on any specific page; or any specific code; or at any specific time. 6) We do not have any background service or any other activity happening on the server; and the server hosts only this application, within a single virtual root.
Any thoughts on why is this happening, and how to resolve this?
Problem: ColA (Source) Rounding error to PARTY_NO (Destination) I have a field of text of in a flat file that the flat file connection manager Source picks up correctly €ś70000893€? However when it gets the OLE DB Connection Destination the data has changed to 70000896. That€™s before its even Written to the database. The only clue that something is wrong in the middle is the great Data viewer shows the number as 7.000009E+07 Other clues looking at the data it appears there is a rounding error on only the number that dont end in 00 ColA (Source) PARTY_NO (Destination) 71167300 71167296 70329000 70329000 70410000 70410000 Any ideas people? I am trying to make a simple connection to my sql server, but am getting an error. I am not sure why it says SQL Server 2005 in the error as we use 2000. I have found others to have the problem on the web, but have found no answers. One person said the sql connection worked when he downgraded to 1.1; however, I'd like to avoid that. Here is my code:

Well its always developer vs administrators, and for the life of me why wont they listen...? However now I must and hopefully someone can help. My need for this resolve is not to change the software which works, but to enlighten the administrators as to possible NOD32 conflicts, or perhaps another issue which I've missed.
In the following scenario I am stumped, and have never heard of anything like it.
The server (DNS (win2003) & sql 2000 sp3) has NOD32 enterprise running, my apps have been running on this environment for the last 3 years, however, for the last year and since NOD32 has been installed, a few very strange incidents have occurred.
1. Whenever this error occurs, users fail to connect to SQL server, the server connection string has to be altered from either server name to the server IP or vice versa. This is an intermittent occurance and can be anything from a few days to a few weeks between occurances.
To limit connectivity issues to a particular protocol, SQL only uses tcp/ip on port 1433. LMhost dont resolve any of these issues either.
2. Twice since the NOD32 installation (I do hope I am not blaming them unneccessarily) SQL communications has degraded over a period of time till a complete halt, (By degraded I mean point 1 above becomes more and more repetitive).
What I found is that when local network users no longer function, my terminal services users were still operational, the local network users could'nt comunicate via native drivers or odbc. In other words the drivers were functional in local only environment. The data server resides behind the linux firewall hence no port blocking is setup of the data sever.
My solution was to reinstall sp3, however does not explain the above errors,
If I am missing something, pray do tell, customer blames administrator, administrator blames me, I gotta blame someone or offer a solution cos hell knows no administrator is ever at fault.

I've had a VB 6 / SQL Server 2000 app running in a network enviroment for a couple of years now at a client of mine. Recently, he upgraded to the latest version of Quickbooks which installed SQL Server 2005 on the server. Now there is SQL Server 2000 and 2005 residing on the same server. My VB app still runs on the server but will not run on other machines. I can ping the server from the other machines. Has SQL 2005 taken over the port I was using or maybe has new security features that won't let me access SQL 2000 using my current connection string? Hi, I had an old web application created during asp.net 1.1 and it have a connection problem with the sql server 2005 when it is mirgrated to a new webserver with dotnet framework 2.0 platform. I have enabled the remote access(TCP/IP and named pipes) in sql server 2005, did all the neccessary things, check whether the TCP/IP is enabled, named pipe is enabled... I created another web application using VS 2005. Previous installations have only ever given me Firewall and network problems, although our comms have advised that the firewall has been set to allow 1433 & 1434. I have accessed the server through remote desktop, and the DBase seems fine. Can anybody help.

I am new to using SQL Server 2005 and I am currently going through the Microsoft tutorials on Databases. I am currently stuck on "lesson 5". In the lesson Bob Tabor uses Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express to connect to a server called "SUPERMANSQLEXPRESS". I have followed all the steps in the tutorial, but when I try to connect I get the following error:

i have no idea about ports or any other default setting whic need to be changed.
When i am connecting from the application i have just changed the connection string by adding instance name alone & it dosent work. new connection string for 2005 Password=test;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=eCom;Initial Catalog=ecommerce;Data Source=server external ipinstance2005
old connection string for 2000 Password=test;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=eCom;Initial Catalog=ecommerce;Data Source=server external ip
i have problem when connecting from application but i have no problem logging from management studio using ip or server name

I have ASP.NET application which connectts to SQL Server 2005 on a server remotely. Everything was working fine untill I installed Vista on my laptop and ran the ASP.NET application. It throws following exception very often :
"System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. This seems to be Vista specific problem because evrything works fine on XP machine.
Help! My web-application worked fine last week. I have made some enhancements and it still works fine when I test in locally in VS 2005 and from IIS when I allow unauthenticated users (by commenting out "<deny users="?"/>" in my web.config. However, with not allowing unauthenticated users, I get redirected to a login application (which also worked last week), where I supply one of several user names and passwords and it is supposed to redirect me back to my default.aspx page. Only, now it is taking the authentication parameters from the login screen but is not redirecting me back to my app's page and instead is putting up this Error 26 that states SQL Server 2005 does not allow remote connections. The included stack trace has no information about what server it seems to be trying to connect with, but the strangest thing about it is I/we are not using SQL Server 2005 yet (still a future upgrade not too far off). The application database, the authentication aspnetdb database, and the Session aspstate database are all on the same SQL Server 2000 managed server. And, these were all working last week (and are all accessible). I have not changed any connection strings and as I said, it works fine without the loging in part both locally and from IIS. It is only when using the Login in application, which is working with other apps and the developer insists the problem has to in my application (after all the first line of the error message states: Server Error in '/deployment1' Application, which is my app!) I am lost in finding the culprit, can someone please give me some ideas?

I have sort of a weird error when attempting to create a database in SQL 2005 (migrating from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005).
I am able to run the CREATE PROC script just fine in SQL 2000, but I get this error in SQL 2005.

Second, it appears that they are trying to create a function to test if a record has been updated (I cut out a bit of that).
I don't really get why SQL 2005 throws an error here. Yes, the code is hideous and not something that I would write myself. But it's not like the function is calling itself recursively or anything.
We are in the process of going through all test steps for upgrading one of our servers with SQL 2000 to SQL 2005. Currently Server 2000, which we will be upgrading as well after SQL is upgraded and running properly. We have Reporting Services installed as well. I am using a test server which is an exact mirrored image of the live server but is not added to the domain.
I am going through the steps of selecting the components, selecting the instance, and then selecting the installed components I want to upgrade (SQL Server 8.0.??? and Reporting Services 8.0.???) and click next.
The upgrade analysis begins. Everything is ok through the SQL Server analysis but when I click next to start the upgrade analysis on Reporting Services I get this error message, "SQL Server Setup requires administrator permissions for the upgraded SQL Server instance. To continue, log in with an administrator account." I am logged in as the local admin which should have the required permissions to upgrade Reporting Services, plus the local admin was ok for the SQL Server upgrade anaylis
I have no idea what could be causing this permissions issue. I did run the SQL 2005 Updrade Analyzer utility and performed all the "before" steps. What could be the issue?
I upgraded a SQL 2000 installation to SQL 2005 this past weekend. Minimal issues overall, but one that did crop up relates to a linked server to an Oracle database. The linked server worked before the upgrade, and stopped working immediately after.
We're running on Windows 2003 x64, latest service pack. The linked server is set up using the MSDAORA provider. The error I'm getting post-upgrade is:

I AM GOING TO RIP MY HAIR OUT WITH THIS PROBLEM. I have installed multiple instances of SSRS on same server with different database. I can go to the report server URL for both SSRS and run reports. But I cannot connect to the 2nd instance through "SQL Server Management Studio".
