Help Needed In SSIS 2005 && Dialup Connections

Jun 29, 2006

In DTS 2000 there was situation where I had to connect source and destination through a dialup connection (56k), where the transferring of data took me ages to finish, so it was not successful.

In SSIS 2005 is there is a solution?

Thank you

Cheers,
Pradeep.

What Permissions Are Needed To Drop All Connections On A Database?

Oct 6, 2006

I'm looking for the correct permissions to grant a user the ability to be able to drop all connections on a database.

The following code throws an exception:

Dim srv As New Server(SqlServerName)

If srv.Databases.Contains(siDBName) Then
srv.KillAllProcesses(siDBName) '== the srv.KillDatabase will not work here, we must kill the processes first
Dim db As Database = srv.Databases(siDBName)
db.Drop()
End If

Throws the Exception:
Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo.FailedOperationException:
Drop all active database connections failed for Server 'xxxx'.
The user does not have permission to perform this action.

This code DOES NOT throw an exception when run as an Administrator.
Any Ideas?

Details about project:

Connection string is IP based.
Sql Server 2000.
Framework 2.0
Sql Server is on hosting Servers.
Application will be running on any system that has internet connection.
The records that the application will fetch are not much, max 6 records in every 15 Secs.

Application is working fine on cable internet but when i switch to dialup it won't connect not even once.

dialup speed is good enough.

If you need any other detail please tell me...

Thanks in Advance.

2.Create Dialup from one computer.
3.Create RAS with static IP Address at second computer (Dial in) for acceptance of dialing.
4.Dialing from one place to another computer and get connection by dialup.
5.I can ping only Remote IP (RAS STATIC) Address at both end.

Try to registered SQL Server 2000 from dial place or dial in place got following errors-

SSIS Simultaneous Connections

Jul 11, 2006

Using the Import/Export Wizard, it is easy to set up SSIS jobs to import multiple tables in one task. However, SSIS appears to grab a connection to the source database and the destination database for each table indicated in the task sometime prior to doing the actual data transfer. Even though the transfer seems to be done a few tables at a time, all the connections are held throughout the execution of the task.

This has two effects:

1. The task may fail if the number of connections exceeds the limit of user connections set for the database

2. There is a severe impact on the other users of the databases (in my case, the source is a production system)

Is there any way to control the number of simultaneous connections that SSIS data transfer packages initiate?

I can, of course, define the package to have a small number of tables (thus limiting the connections), but in real life I need to transfer almost 700 tables, so limiting the number of tables per task to 20 or 25 produces an awkwardly large, and error prone, number of tasks. And since this definition must be done for multiple (not quite identical) databases, the extra effort of defining small collections of tables is signifcant.

SSIS Data Connections In A Job

Feb 7, 2008

Hello!

I'm working with SSIS and using a third party data provider to a proprietary data source. SSIS wraps the provider in an ADO wrapper and everything runs perfectly.

So what's the problem? Well, I need to use this data provider multiple times in a package, and we have limited licenses for the provider. If I run the SSIS package by itself, once again it runs perfectly. The problem arises when I attempt to run the package in a job. When I run the job it hangs, because the data provider throws a modal warning window that runs in the background, telling me that I've run out of licenses.

It would appear that when I run the SSIS package independently, it makes the calls to the data provider sequentially because those tasks are sequential. However, when I attempt to run it as a job, it attempts to grab the multiple connections to the provider at the same time, causing me to run out of licenses.

Is there a way to modify this behavior in the job, and have it call those data connections sequentially?

Thanks for your help,

ADoinel

SSIS Is Pathetic With ODBC Connections ...

Nov 30, 2007

We have spent days trying to perform a proof of concept and I amdissappointed with SSIS to say the least. We are trying to connect andfetch data from a Double Byte Progress database and the "DataReaderSource" using a ADO .NET ODBC provider does not work! I understandthat SSIS is a totally rewritten version of DTS. What annoys me isthat this functionality used to work in DTS and does not in the muchtalked about SSIS!! Will someone in Microsoft start listening tocustomers instead of gloating on useless features. SSIS is a totalwaste if it cannot connect and fetch data from a wide variety ofsource databases!!

SSIS Packages Dynamic Connections

Nov 8, 2006

1) We are doing data migration from SQL Server 2000 OLTP design to SQL Server 2005 OLAP design.

2) We have used SSIS packages and data flow tasks in which we mentioned connection strings for source and target
containers.

3) We have a master execute package which contains series of execute packages in relational order.

4) When we execute this master package, we should be able to dynamically specify different source and connection
strings for all packages.

5) Can we do it with dtexec option /Conn[ection] IDOrName;ConnectionString
We know what to give for ID or Name but what do we give for ConnectionString. Will it be the source/target one? Can we specify both source and target ones with which the data flow packages get executed.

Help Needed With SSIS And DTS Help

Jun 22, 2007

Hi Guys,

I'm trying to develop an application and I have been told right here in sql server getting started forum that SSIS or DTS are the best bits.

My old post has these questions:

Code Snippet

I'm making an application. I have 2 different sites running Sql Server 2005 workgroup and sql server express.

I have a 3rd main server and what I would need to do is to get some of the data from both of these sites, merge it and save it on Main server and then generate another file which should be placed in a directory on a network.

I don't have any idea of how I would do that. Its entirely a sql server app.

One person told me its an SSIS and the other one said to investigate replication.

I have checked a bit about both. I want to give it a try.

Where can i find tutorials on both of these. Complete tutorials to develop and design it.

Thanks

I just want to display all the data of a Single table into a Data Grid, I know that we can drag and drop the table on to a form and datagrid is generated, but here I want to retrive those values through my code, how should i do that

Can anybody please tell me, where I went wrong ??? In this code anywhere else????

SSIS Deployment Clarificaiton Needed.

May 26, 2006

I'm all mixed up on this one. Please comment on either of the following two remarks.

1. When I create a new SSIS package under BIDS I gather it is intended for development purposes. .I can test the package and run it but I need to"deploy" it (possibly to another server) to make it available for others to use.

2. Is "deploying" essentially copying my package (.ldtsx) to a new server or does it involve a lot more?

3. I read that I can create an SSIS package without actually needing to have sql 2005 installed on my box. Suppose I create a package that makes no reference to any databases. To *run* this package will I need sql2005 installed or can BIDS do this?

Reference For SSIS C-like Script Needed

May 19, 2006

Consider the Conditional Split task. I can use a C-like language to create statements such as

Ltrim ([Col1] =€?A€?) || Ltrim([Col1] =€?B€?)

This sure ain€™t VB-like and the list of functions in the upper right-hand pane of the task (€œexpression editor€?) does not help me construct such statements.

Where is the reference manual describing this language?

TIA,

Barkingdog

P.S. I have found fragments in BOL but the info does not seem complete and the BOL topic fragmentation impedes learning.

P.P.S. Why MS uses this language instead of VB.NET, which they use in their Script tasks, is beyond me.

SQL 2012 :: Script In SSIS To Check Data Connections / Sources

script in SSIS to check data connections/sources and send an email if it fails validation. I found this script online, but I'm not real good with scripting and only VB scripting at that. How can I modify this script or is there another one here that will do what I need. The reason I need this script is that we have no control over the password changes and need to know if the salesforce team changes the password without informing us.

Problems With Connections And Analysis Service Processing Task In SSIS

May 30, 2008

Hi everybody,

I'm fairly new to the SSAS/SSIS world (though not new on databases, etc.) and I'm having some problems with the SSIS packages in our Cube environment.

Currently in our SSAS/SSIS project, we have two major connection managers, one to the database we use for loading the Cube, and the other connector for the cube itself. To load the data from the database to the cube, we wrote some SSIS packages and used the Analysis Service Processing tasks to process all the dimensions and measures. This works pretty good, so no problems here.

The real problem starts, when I try to change the connection parameters, e.g. because the server changed, or the database has been renamed.
As soon as the connection managers points to another (existing) cube, regardless if the structure is exactly the same as the one of the old cube, the tasks lose all the assigned objects from their lists. It is really annoying to add all these exactly same objects to the task again. I tried experimenting with the DelayValidation attribute so the Development Studio doesn't destroy my work every time, but when I deploy the package the Cube breaks. Obviously some kind of deeper connection is destroyed when I change the connection string.

Is there a way to prevent the package from breaking/losing objects, without me having to sacrifice 15 minutes every time I change the connection parameters?

Regards,
Tris

Help Needed In Approach For Error Output In SSIS

Sep 25, 2007

Hi i have a issue i am loading data from a flat file into a relational Database and i am loading the data without dropping the Primary and Foreign Key constraints and i am sending the error rows into a error table for each table. This is becoming large over head is there a way to Load the entire error Row as a single Column in one Error Table.

This is occuring coz the input is being parsed and its dividing into columns,

One approach would be to used Derived Column Transformation and Substring all columns but it makes to writing long substring statement as some tables have 80 columns ,

is there a better way to handle these errors so that they can be looked at and Changes can be made to the Data ,

Also one more question is is there a way to Load in case of Duplicates load only the Recent Row By Date Column.
and send the old row according to Date into Error output.

Please suggest me what approach should i go for

But when I execute it, it always gives me an error.
I have just started learning SSIS but have not been able to figure it our properly.

Hi guys, I have just set up a database in SQL 2005 Express Edition. However, I have a problem accessing it with the application program created in VB 2005 EE. Before using SQL 2005, the application worked perfectly in SQL 2000.
Here is my connection string used in SQL 2000:

Dim sqlConn As New SqlConnection("Data Source=(local); Database='Inventory List'; Integrated Security=yes")

Is this valid in SQL 2005 Express Edition? Or should I change the connection string instead? Thank you very much.

SSIS And SSMS Backup Wizard Integration Needed

Aug 15, 2006

I created a Backup plan using the SSMS Maintenance Wizard. It created an SSIS package for me but the package didn't delete files older than, say, 3 days. So I exported that package from MSDB, added a Script task to it (to do what I needed), and imported it back into MSDB. I can open the new package under SSMS and everything looked good ... until I double-clicked the Script task. That task is simply not supported under the SSMS Maintenance Wizard. Goin in and out of that task under SSMS gave me the following errors:

"Microsoft Visual Studio Macros: The operation could not be compelted. Call was rejected by callee.".

Or the ever popular "cannot show the editor for this task'.

I was asked to "Wait for Completion" or "Switch tasks or "Cancel".

It seems the only way to delete these files is to set up a seperate SSIS job that calls my Script task sometime after the nightly backup has completed. But now the completion of the Backup job and the file deletion processes are decoupled, which is not very good. Can you offer any ideas how to handle the gracefully? (The real problem is that the SSMS Maintenance wizard does not recognize the full set of SSIS tasks. It would be nice if double-clicking on the Maintenance plan pane opened up the SSIS editor but that's for a later day.)

DTS .ini File Versus SSIS XML Configuration - Guidance Needed.

Apr 25, 2008

Hello

I've been given the task of migrating a DTS package to SSIS (neither of which I am particularly familar with). The first job in the DTS package is to read a .ini file and set a bunch of variables. These variables are then used throughout the DTS package. After running the DTS package through the SSIS migration wizard this job turns into an execute script task and I can't see if it is still reading the .ini file. However, the only real purpose of this step is to allow different parameters to be passed in development, test, production etc. So I am thinking this whole step can be removed and effectively replaced with a package configuration (I'll probably use an XML file). My understanding is that by selecting the name/value pairs as appropriate in the XML package configuration file means this values will be passed in at runtime and achieve the same functionality. Is this the correct way to do this in SSIS, or do I still need the .ini file and variables?

Thanks for any advice on this issue.

Regards, John

SQL Server 2005 + Connections

May 9, 2007

Hello,

Is it possible to determine the maximum number of connections permitted by a database? Is this value configurable? How do I figure out the maximum number of allowed connections on a SQL Server 2005 db?

Thank you,
Crystal

TestProd Databases On Same Server; Same SSIS Algorithm But Different Connection Strings Needed

Jul 27, 2006

We have an SSIS package that will be used for both our Test and Prod imports on the same server. The SSIS imports are identical expect that Test needs all connections pointing to the Test database while Prod need its connections pointing to the Prod database.

How can I change the connections, based on Test or Prod, used inside a single SSIS package? (I don't want to create two tweaked packages on the same server. If I find a bug in one of them, I have to correct it twice.)

SQL Server 2005 Does Not Allow Remote Connections

Oct 11, 2006

Hello ,

The problem is that we are having Problem while making the remote Connection to the Sql Server 2005

Basically We are having a problem connecting to SQL2005 through a package remotely. when we try to connect to a remote data base, we get the following error

[Connection manager "CRA LRRS Development DB"] Error: An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80004005. An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft SQL Native Client" Hresult: 0x80004005 Description: "Login timeout expired". An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft SQL Native Client" Hresult: 0x80004005 Description: "An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections.". An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft SQL Native Client" Hresult: 0x80004005 Description: "SQL Network Interfaces: Error Locating Server/Instance Specified [xFFFFFFFF]. ".

Although by running the configuration manager on the Remote DataBase System we have enable the Remote Connections through name and IP both but still it cant access it.

Please tell us the possible consequences and provide us the feedback.

I will be really obliged if any of you can provide us the feedback on it as soon as possible.

Thanking You,
Yours Sincerely,
