Help Needed In Building SSIS

I am trying to import part of the following file structure into a SQL2005 table
The 1st 10 records are not needed (HEADER DATA), neither are the records that are from ‘TRAILER RECORD’
Can anyone assist me in designing a Simple SSIS to import this file to a table
The LedgerKey will be from a Global variable
Text within <> are for information and NOT contained in the file
In this file there are three records to be imported, but in other files thjere can be upwards of 20,000 records

Ive been using SSIS for a month or two and now find I need to create some custom tasks to perform some performance logging. in the the overloaded ProviderComponentProperties section I am trying to create a property which has the same look as the Expressions properties you find elsewhere (Little + on the left and a group of sub properties when expanded).
Ive have played with creating a IDTSCustomPropertyCollection90 collection then adding my sub properties to it but I cant seem to then add my new collection to the ComponentMetaData.CustomPropertiesCollection.
Im assuming the Expressions parameter is a collection added to the properties collection but I cant figure out how. Any help would be much appreciated.

What does this mean? I am building a package with a datareader task, derived column task, data conversion task, ans several ole db destinations.

Hi
While trying to build SSIS Package Project, the following error is thrown. I have added configuration file recently to fetch the dynamic values such as connection string, output path etc.
I tried manually cleaned up the debug folder and tried build but still the error occurs.
Can any one help in suppressing this error?

As painful as it is proving out to be, I am trying to create a single package that is vendor neutral between SQL Server and Oracle.
At first, I thought that as long as I was going OLEDB in and out, and I ensured that my SQL syntax was generic enough, I'd be OK.
Well, not exactly. I am finding there is more to this. Specifically, metadata gets generated differently based on the source/targets.
For example, on an OLE DB Source task, datatypes will vary (i.e. NUMBER in Oracle vs Int in SQL). The job here is to pick the common denominator for the SSIS specific type. Time consuming, but doable, I think.
Another issue is on an OLE DB Desitnation. If you choose Table for Data Access Mode, this value gets written to the dtsx XML file. So, even when both RDBMS have the same schema (which is an obvious prereq) if choosing SQL Server "dbo.DimTable" will get written to the file and for Oracle "SCHEMA.DIMTABLE" will get written.
So, I am am wondering, what is the best way to address this?
My inital thought was using a dtsConfig file (which I am already using extensively) and set the target table names accordingly. This approach would have the added benefit of allowing for post-deployment configuration changes should a table name change, for example.

Ideally, I'd like configuration time control over the name attribute of the component element (highlighted) so that I can set the value of the property element with the OpenRowset attribute type (also highlighted). This way, presumambly as long as datatypes were generic enough, the mapping would just work.
But, in walking through the dtsConfig tree, I don't see these elements or attributes exposed.
I would sincerely appreciate any suggestions on how to accomplish this.

I'm trying to develop an application and I have been told right here in sql server getting started forum that SSIS or DTS are the best bits.
My old post has these questions:

I'm making an application. I have 2 different sites running Sql Server 2005 workgroup and sql server express.
I have a 3rd main server and what I would need to do is to get some of the data from both of these sites, merge it and save it on Main server and then generate another file which should be placed in a directory on a network.
I don't have any idea of how I would do that. Its entirely a sql server app.
One person told me its an SSIS and the other one said to investigate replication.
I have checked a bit about both. I want to give it a try.
Where can i find tutorials on both of these. Complete tutorials to develop and design it.

I'm all mixed up on this one. Please comment on either of the following two remarks.
1. When I create a new SSIS package under BIDS I gather it is intended for development purposes. .I can test the package and run it but I need to"deploy" it (possibly to another server) to make it available for others to use.
2. Is "deploying" essentially copying my package (.ldtsx) to a new server or does it involve a lot more?
3. I read that I can create an SSIS package without actually needing to have sql 2005 installed on my box. Suppose I create a package that makes no reference to any databases. To *run* this package will I need sql2005 installed or can BIDS do this?

If one of our SSIS packages fails because of a communication problem with the backend, and the DBA is not available, my boss wants another individual (probably a senior programmer but not an "sa" type) to be able to re-run the job.
What is the "right" way to do this under SSIS sql 2005?

Consider the Conditional Split task. I can use a C-like language to create statements such as
Ltrim ([Col1] =€?A€?) || Ltrim([Col1] =€?B€?)
This sure ain€™t VB-like and the list of functions in the upper right-hand pane of the task (€œexpression editor€?) does not help me construct such statements.
Where is the reference manual describing this language?

P.S. I have found fragments in BOL but the info does not seem complete and the BOL topic fragmentation impedes learning.
P.P.S. Why MS uses this language instead of VB.NET, which they use in their Script tasks, is beyond me.

Hi i have a issue i am loading data from a flat file into a relational Database and i am loading the data without dropping the Primary and Foreign Key constraints and i am sending the error rows into a error table for each table. This is becoming large over head is there a way to Load the entire error Row as a single Column in one Error Table.
This is occuring coz the input is being parsed and its dividing into columns,
One approach would be to used Derived Column Transformation and Substring all columns but it makes to writing long substring statement as some tables have 80 columns ,
is there a better way to handle these errors so that they can be looked at and Changes can be made to the Data ,
Also one more question is is there a way to Load in case of Duplicates load only the Recent Row By Date Column.
and send the old row according to Date into Error output.
Please suggest me what approach should i go for

In DTS 2000 there was situation where I had to connect source and destination through a dialup connection (56k), where the transferring of data took me ages to finish, so it was not successful.
In SSIS 2005 is there is a solution?

Hi guys
I have got a set of queries to run on a table stored in my SQL Database and this query creates a new table which I export to excel for final results.
NOw I need to design an SSIS package for this query to run and to export the result in excel sheet.
I started with the control flow by adding the TSQL statements to it and then in the data flow I connected it with my database.
But when I execute it, it always gives me an error.
I have just started learning SSIS but have not been able to figure it our properly.
Could you please help me out??

I created a Backup plan using the SSMS Maintenance Wizard. It created an SSIS package for me but the package didn't delete files older than, say, 3 days. So I exported that package from MSDB, added a Script task to it (to do what I needed), and imported it back into MSDB. I can open the new package under SSMS and everything looked good ... until I double-clicked the Script task. That task is simply not supported under the SSMS Maintenance Wizard. Goin in and out of that task under SSMS gave me the following errors:
"Microsoft Visual Studio Macros: The operation could not be compelted. Call was rejected by callee.".
Or the ever popular "cannot show the editor for this task'.
I was asked to "Wait for Completion" or "Switch tasks or "Cancel".
It seems the only way to delete these files is to set up a seperate SSIS job that calls my Script task sometime after the nightly backup has completed. But now the completion of the Backup job and the file deletion processes are decoupled, which is not very good. Can you offer any ideas how to handle the gracefully? (The real problem is that the SSMS Maintenance wizard does not recognize the full set of SSIS tasks. It would be nice if double-clicking on the Maintenance plan pane opened up the SSIS editor but that's for a later day.)

I've been given the task of migrating a DTS package to SSIS (neither of which I am particularly familar with). The first job in the DTS package is to read a .ini file and set a bunch of variables. These variables are then used throughout the DTS package. After running the DTS package through the SSIS migration wizard this job turns into an execute script task and I can't see if it is still reading the .ini file. However, the only real purpose of this step is to allow different parameters to be passed in development, test, production etc. So I am thinking this whole step can be removed and effectively replaced with a package configuration (I'll probably use an XML file). My understanding is that by selecting the name/value pairs as appropriate in the XML package configuration file means this values will be passed in at runtime and achieve the same functionality. Is this the correct way to do this in SSIS, or do I still need the .ini file and variables?

We have an SSIS package that will be used for both our Test and Prod imports on the same server. The SSIS imports are identical expect that Test needs all connections pointing to the Test database while Prod need its connections pointing to the Prod database.
How can I change the connections, based on Test or Prod, used inside a single SSIS package? (I don't want to create two tweaked packages on the same server. If I find a bug in one of them, I have to correct it twice.)

And I have some questions on the database.For the users to login I use the login control and all the users information is stored in the ASPNETDB.MDF database.In the web.config file I have created some profiles for saving some information about the users (Name, Birth, Town) and so on.Now. I've never done this before and I have all kinds of issues conflicting in my head (search rank, noise words, injection attacks ..etc). simply i need to search several columns in a table in the database using one search text (just like the simple search in Google). if multiple words are you used then the search should search for each of them. also manage to ignore noise words and other issues.
what is the best way of doing this? I looked at FTS in SQL 2000 but didn't know how to handle all the above mentioned issues. this should be simple, right? but i have been looking all day. I guess i don't know what im looking for because i've never implemented a web search b4.
please help
p.s. I know t-sql and asp.net/c# well.

I am not very experienced with stored procs and I'm attempting to write my first one. I am writing a search page via aspx and that page will call my proc and depending on the input parameters, the proc will return the search results. Hi,
I am having some problems trying to build an sql statement from more than one statement.
Here is the statement
select 'Insert App_Column (Table_ID, Column_Type_Transformation, Column_Name, )

What I am finding is that the bracket at the end of the statement is not appearing - how do I append statements to the end of this sql statement (i've tried various combinations of the + sign and the comma without success.

I'm in the midst of planning how to build an NT box to host SQL 7.0 and was wondering if there is any advantage to segregating the RAID 5 Array (5 x 18GB drives) into numerous *logical* partitions to separate database and log files (I can't see what advantage there would be if the disks are all on the same array, but..)
If anyone has any pointers or links to recommended NT configurations for hosting SQL, I'd appreciate hearing them.

Help Please - JMail - SQL SPs - Confirmation Email
I'm at the last stage of my current project and an totally stuck.
I'm trying to build the body of a order processing request email. For security reasons I wish to use a SP to build and send the email. (therefore no sensitive data gets passed to the client)
I have the JMail Object running properly on the server. It collects and sends the email in the normal course of the transaction from the client. Problem is that I cannot figure out how to properly build the body of the email in the SP.
I'm looking to do add the following to a single SQL SP variable to stuff in the Jmail Object to be sent. The content of the variable should look something linke the following:

I am working with SQL server 2000. The database is installed in my machine. Now I have got the ".ldf" and ".mdf" file pertaining to a database from someother server.
Is it possible to build the database present in the above said files in my server.
NOTE : I dont have a direct access to the remote server from where the above said files were obtained (otherwise I think the DTS utility would have come in handy).

This will probably be trivial and basic for most, but I'm having a hard time trying to figure out the best way to do a SELECT statement. First, let me explain what I have:
Two tables:
Table 1:
Orders
Some of the fields:
ID
PropID
WorkOrderNum
OrderDesc
DateCompleted
Table 2:
OrderDetail
ID
OrderID
TenantName
As you probably have realized, the OrderID in my 'OrderDetail' table corresponds to the ID field in my 'Orders' table. The 'Orders' table contains the order header information, while the OrderDetail contains line items for that order - 1 line item per record.
Here is my SQL statement to retrieve an order when searching by the 'Order Description' (Orders.OrderDesc):
SELECT PropertyLocations.PropertyLocation, Orders.ID, Orders.PropID, Orders.WorkOrderNum, Orders.OrderDesc, Orders.DateCompleted FROM PropertyLocations, ORDERS WHERE PropertyLocations.ID = Orders.PropID AND OrderDesc LIKE '%lds%'
Ok, so now for the 'big' question/problem: I also need to be able to search the 'Tenant Name' field from the 'OrderDetail' table. So what is the best/most efficient way of doing that? The other stipulation about that is that there can be (and usually is) several records/line items (in the OrderDetail table, of course) that contains the same (or similar) data, but I don't want duplicates. And when I say duplicates, all I care about is retrieving a few fields (as you can see from my SQL statement) from the 'Orders' table. Another way to describe what I want is that I want all unique orders that have a 'TenantName' in the 'OrderDetail' table that matches the search criteria. My brain just isn't wanting to figure this out right now, so I was hoping someone could help me out.

I'm having problems building an sql stament that joins a few tables. I can seem to get my head around the structure!
I have to try and link up four different tables to try and get my result.
Here are the 4 table structures...
Web_Users----------------User_IDName
Tags_Table-----------------Tags_IDUser_IDGroup_IDTitle
Created_Groups-----------------------Group_IDGroup_Name
Tags_To_Groups------------------------Group_Link_IDGroup_IDTag_ID
Basically, this database, has four tables; One table (Web_Users) that contains a users name, and assigns a unique ID (User_ID), another table that stores a users tags they have created, and also links it to a group_ID. The created_groups table, contains group names and assigns a unique id also. And the last table, Tags_To_Groups, links tags to groups.
So this is what I'm trying to do...
I'm trying to get the Group_name field from Created_Groups table, of a tag , that belongs to a certain user. If sounds easy when I say it like that, but I've been inner joining tables all night and failing every time.
Does this make sense? Can anyone help?

i have a query building question and was hoping that one of you would know the answer.
Here is what i need to do :(i am using asp.net and ado.net)
I have 1 table where I store thedata, where 5 criteria determine a unique row in this table. Now, this has recently changed as the start date was added. So there potentially can be more than one entry in the table with same 5 criteria, but different start date.
I need to retrieve the row with the latest start date (currently active). The problem arises when the users enter less than 5 criteria. In this case the results may not possess same 5 criteria. Say the user searches based on 2 criteria. Then all the rows possessing these 2 ctieria will be returned, but other 3 criteria might differ with the results set.
But, i only need the latest start date row for each row. So for example, if i searched on 2 criteria, i got back 4 rows, 2 of which possess the same 5 criteria. But between these 2 i only need to display ONE row to the user - the one with the latest date.
How do i build a query? say the table name is tbl, and criteria 1 to 5 fields are called c1 ... c5, and start date field is called start_date.
