I developed a windows form application by visual basic 2005. This application is connected to a SQL server 2005 express edition database. I published the application and installed it in the same computer ( let's say " computer A" ) . It worked well. I installed the application in another computer ( let's say " computer B" ). It has SQL server 2005 Express also . The two computers are connected by network adaptors.I ran the application in computer B but when I tried to load data in the datagrid , an error message appeared . It says : log on to the server failed."
The question : How can I run the application in computer B and make it log in to SQL server 2005 Express database in computer A?
Please help me, I have been working on this problem for 10 days.
I am administering several SQL Servers running SQL Server 2005 SP2 Build 3042. I have a common maintenance plan that runs on each of the servers. The maintenance plan runs fine on all the servers except for one. On the one server the Database Integrity check fails with the following error:
Check Database integrity on Local server connection Databases: <list of databases> Include indexes Task start: 2008-02-21T00:05:42. Task end: 2008-02-21T00:05:46. Failed0) Alter failed for Server €˜XYZ€™
I created a test maintenance plan to just do the integrity check and selected one database only and this also failed with the same error message. I ran this test maintenance plan and configured it for each of the databases in question and it failed each time. If I run the DBCC manually against the databases they all report fine.
I read some of the post that talked about the €œAllow Updates€? being set incorrectly but that does not apply to my problem since my configured and run values are set to 0.
Hi when i try and open a database in sql server management studio i get the error "Cannot open user default database. Login failed. Login failed for user 'DOMAINUser'. (.Net SqlClient Data Provider)", what can i do to rectify this, i have googled around and still havent found no answers.
hi, so i have a new box and I'm trying to get my websites and SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition working on it, but the pages give me the following error when I try to load them: "Cannot Open Database "XXXX" requested by login. The login failed. Login failed for user 'xxx'" Everything seems exactly the same settings and user-wise from my old box to my new one, but nevertheless everything I've tried gives me the same error. I've tried creating new users in SQL Server and giving them appropriate permissions to my database. I've even tried just using the built in 'sa' account. Nothing seems to change the error, except when I give it the incorrect password then it just says 'login failed' This leads me to believe that i'm successfully logging into the SQL Server, but it doesn't want to give me access to the database I'm requesting access too. But "apparently" the account i'm using should have access to the database. If nothing else the 'sa' account should, but that didn't work either. I'm stumped. Any ideas?
Hey Microsoft: this affects development that will eventually sell a lot of seats on SharePoint Server 2007. If you guys and gals can't straighten out this mess, you can't expect custom solutions with custom web parts. So pay attention for your own good. Yes, SPS 2007 is what this is all about. I've created simpe web parts and deployed them, same VS 2005, but I need local development and debugging for more complex stuff. I'm really disappointed that you have no solution for this problem.
I've seen other posts on this, but the result seems to be the same: if you fix it, it's by accident, not by design.
1. I created a blank ASP.NET web site
2. I added a web part manager
3. I added a web part zone
I get the error described above. I have no idea why SQL Server settings are so screwed up.
I've tried all the stuff in the other posts - security settings, command line installation, etc. None of those worked.
The default template(s) don't copy anything into App_Data, nor create an empty folder. I don't know why that is. I have other web sites working just fine, but they use remote SQL databases, or local ones I created, and didn't need profile management (no forms authentication, no web parts, no web zones).
I've also started out with a local database, using SQL Authentication, later moving it to a remote server, and never had any problems. The SQL Server developer edition and Express seem to work just fine. I can also debug stored procs when the .mdf is in App_Data. So the problem isn't one of connectivity.
What would cause the default screw-up? This would seem to point from all directions to a problem with Visual Studio (2005)? The installation is defalt - perhaps some extras included (copy local), but nothing unusual. AJAX for ASP.net is installed, but not used in the above "default web site" trial. Likewise Syncfusion's tools, which work fine on other developer workstations at this same location, all of which are from the same image (purchased at the same time & imaged). That web parts work on other boxes, running all the same management tools (anti-virus, remote sys admin/sms etc.) makes none of those suspect.
I think Microsoft needs to have a clean problem solution and publish it. SP1 certainly doesn't fix it. What's worse is the stupid, lame error message. "I can't open the default database". Well, what did you try? What do you think the default is? What settings are you using? Why is there no debugging information other than the usual worthless trace information showing it's all deep within the ProviderBase and SqlClient namespace code? How is that supposed to be helpful?
If anyone has anything solid, not guesses, I'd like to know.
Greetings, I have just arrived back into the country (NZ) and back into ASP.NET. I am having trouble with the following:An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file (file location).../Database.mdf failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share. It has only begun since i decided i wanted to use IIS, I realise VWD comes with its own localhost, but since it is only temporary, i wanted a permanent shortcut on my desktop to link to my intranet page. Anyone have any ideas why i am getting the above error? have searched many places on the internet and not getting any closer. Cheers ~ J
I'm new to ASP.NET (I normally work with Windows Forms) and have installed the Club Website Starter Kit. I created an Administrators role and a user called "admin". When I run the project locally, everything works as it should - I can log in as admin and I can create new users. I then copied the site to localhost (C:Inetpubwwwroot), but when I run the site from localhost, I can't log in (as admin or any other user); instead I get a message that says, "Your login attempt was not successful. Please try again." Also, I can't create a new user. When I try, I get the following error: Server Error in '/' Application.

Version Information: Microsoft .NET Framework Version:2.0.50727.42; ASP.NET Version:2.0.50727.42 I figure there must be a simple(?) explanation and solution for this problem, and ideally, some sort of step-by-step procedure that new users to ASP.NET can follow to configure a site - such as one of the starter kits - to work correctly. I can honestly say that trying to get this working has been an extremely frustrating experience. If someone could help me out, I would really appreciate it. I've been working on this for two days and feeling I have hit the wall. Thanks in advance.
Hi there,I am getting a real problem with ASP.NET 2.0, all i am trying to do is run a recovert password (using the login controls) and i got the following error.Does anybody know how to fix this? I have tried the SSEUTIL answer here and it didn't work. http://forums.asp.net/909168/ShowPost.aspxI also ensured that Network Services user has READ/WRITE/EXECUTE premissions on the directory below and that each file isn't read only and also that it inherits ACL from the directory which it seems to do..Bit of strange one this, it isn't created (and i am not using) a beta version of VS 2005 Pro... but a full retail version. The PC is the local PC with IIS 5.1 and VS installed... it is the one i am using for developing.. I don't need to copy my files to the IIS directory below as that is where i have created it and open it in VS 2005 from there..I did read that if you use IIS 5.1 then the user should be ASPNET ... but i don't seem to have that use but a Network Services user...Any help or guidance would be really appreciated... i have come to a stop stage and can't get any further..Thanksian Server Error in '/igdotcom' Application.

I have a script that automates some db drop/restore operations and bringing the database to single user mode is part of it: ALTER DATABASE ... SET SINGLE_USER WITH ROLLBACK IMMEDIATE...I want this to executes under a login, that has restricted privileges, so I've created a login and granted it a dbcreator role + ALTER ANY DATABASE privileges.
Problem: When I run the script against a database with an active/sleeping connection:It fails when using the restricted login: "Msg 5061...ALTER DATA BASE failed because a lock could not be placed on database ..."It completes successfully when using a sysadmin login According to stackoverflow.com the solution is to kill the active/sleeping connections to the database, before ALTER-ing it, which works fine, but the question is....
Questions: Why the "ALTER DATABASE..." statement works under the sysadmin login, but not under a dbcreator one?Does this mean the sysadmin login kills the connections to the target database in the background? Is it possible to grant additional privileges to the restricted login, so the "ALTER DATABASE..." statement won't need preventive killing of the connections?

I have made sure that the permissions on the DB are set (in Windows) so that all users can modify. The user that is logging in to the DB has status set to DBOWNER.
I have seen others experience the same problem - with ASP.net sites, not Windows Forms sites (thus most of their solutions dont apply to me)
Any ideas on what is wrong and how I can get this to work?
i'm using the Enterpirse library logger to write logs into a database. When choosing connection string i choose the database i want in the "connection properties" dialog box and push 'Test connection' button. everything goes well.
then i open the SQL Server Management studio express and connect to the databse to check some things, from that point on , when i push the 'Test Connection' button in the Enterprise library i get the error:
"cannot open user default database. Login failed. login failed for user My'server/MyuserName'"
even when i close the sql server manager , it is still stuck - the connection test doesn't work anymore.... it only work when i restart the computer.
I Guys I am trying to create an application that writes data to a SQL database (studio express). The application works fine but as soon as I open the table with the SQL server management studio express the application does not work any more displaying the following message:
€œCannot open user default database. Login failed. Login failed for user€¦€?
If I siwtch off and on the computer the problem disappear till the table will be open with the database management studio express!!!!!
I know allot of folks are having this problem and I tried lots of things but nothing works. I understand the problem is coping the SQL Express on another server is the problem - I just not sure what to do?

I checked my server forum and they said I had to name a database: Example: Database=(unique name);
But this didn't work either.
I just tried a simple web project that has only one database and one table in SQL Express with one sqldatasource and one datagrid. It works fine on my pc but when I use the copy function in Visio Studio 2005 Pro - I can't run the site on the remote server: www.myjewelrydirect.com
I tried coping the database manually. I tried disconnecting the database before I copy it. Below is my connection statement:
<add name ="ASPNETDBConnectionString1" connectionString ="Data Source= .SQLEXPRESS; Integrated Security = True; DataBase = ASPNETDB.MDF; User ID = MyWindowsUserName; Password = MyWindowsPassword; User Instance = False; Connect Timeout = 30" providerName ="System.Data.SqlClient"/>
I tried to research on the internet and i got a solution on changing the permissions for this database to enable user SystemName/ASPNET, but iam not able to access this ASPNETDB.MDF from SqlServer and if i go to server explorer in vs2005, i dint know where to chage the permissions.

Hi Team, I got the error message above, that i run my web application to my IIS Server and i update any record on this eg. i forgot my password, requestng my new password and after that i got the error message. that is read only database.
what can i do regarding this error message to modify and re run my web application operationally
I have Test database with Log file property Automatically grow the file, option Unrestricted file growth, I wanted to alter it with Restrict file growth upto 200 MB. I'm getting an error that you cannot modify as file doesnot exist But the file does exist. I cannot figure out what is giving the problem. below is the sql statements select name from sysfiles go
Test_Data Test_Log
USE master go ALTER DATABASE Test MODIFY FILE ( NAME='Test_Log', MAXSIZE=200MB ) go
ERROR Server: Msg 5041, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 MODIFY FILE failed. File 'Test_Log' does not exist.
I backed up a database to drive f:, then did restore and set options to move the .mdf and .ldf files to different HDs (f: for .mdf and d: for .ldf).
During restore I got a disk IO error. The restore terminated abnormally. Now I have no DB but the .mdf and the .ldf have been moved to the HDs that I specified in the restore options.
I cannot move the .bak file from the f: it gives me an IO error when I try this. It did allow me to copy the .mdf from f: to d:
I need to know how to recover the db frm the .mdf and .ldf files. I have tried using sp_attach_db and got the following error:
An error occurred while processing the log for database 'MyDB'
I am trying to remotely create a database through a database creation tool I created, and I keep getting the following error:
The file "\10.116.204.105DataWMS_TDMN_Data.MDF" is on a network path that is not supported for database files. CREATE DATABASE failed. Some file names listed could not be created. Check related errors.
The path is located on a RAID 5 server. I can create a database while on the server on the E: drive. Also, my application can drop the database remotely from my laptop, but it cannot recreate it.
The creation works with no problem on the C: drive. The server is on a different VLAN, but I have the privileges to access it. The problem appears to be related to the 3 hard drives combined together as the E: drive. I have excellent skills in SQL, but my understanding of RAID is about nothing.
No matter how many times i try to restore the analysis services database (.abf) on my analysis services instance ...its giving me the following message
The following system error occured: The system cannot find the file specified .. File system error: The following error occurred while opening the file". (Microsoft.AnalysisServices)
Here's the scoop, I got a generic-purpose database (in the form of*.mdb and *.ldf) from a 'reputable' source on the net. But when Iattempted to attach it to my sql server 2000 with SP3 with EM, itfailed complaining "Could not find row in sysindexes for database ID10, object ID 1, index ID 1. Run DBCC CHECKTABLE on sysindexes."Then, I attempted to command line attach (thought it may have someoption...), same outcome. Then, ran a search on this NG, and foundthe following thread, the question is, MS most likely would notsupport something like this, so now what? Also thought aboutmanually adding a row to sysindexes table to 'fool the attach process'but after looking at some sample data in this table, I don't thinkit's a good idea to try, what can I do? Thanks.http://groups.google.com/group/comp...3bee910fa30aa9a
First of all: I don't really know a lot about MSSQL-Servers, so this question might sound a bit silly ;)
Today I wanted to test an application, that uses a MSSQL-Server for the databases. As they said, that a MSSQL7-Server is required, I thought that a MSSQL-Express 2005-Server would also do the job.
But when it's time to set up the database, I get the following error:
With searching the net, I didn't found a solution to my problem...
Does this in the end mean, that I need to install (and buy!) a MSSQL7-Server, because the application won't run with a MSSQL-Express2005-Server? Or is there any way to get this thing up'n'running?
Hello, I have a database backup taken from SQL Server 2005. I originally had placed the backup into a file in My Documents, but when I went to locate the backup file there (C:/Documents and Settings...), the folders would not expand. So I moved the backup to the C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLBackup directory and was able to select the file there. When I try to restore this file into SQL Server 2005 Express using the Management Studio, I get the following error message:

Our primary use this database server is for our Coldfusion Application servers. We host about 50 or so databases.
Of late, we have been experiencing random failed logins for certain databases. These failed logins are logged to the event log on the server. They randomly; queries executed against a datasource configured on our application servers trying to get data from the database fail with a login failure when other times they will succeed. I am confused about this issue. Could an issue where the SQL Server is overloaded cause a login failure for a database?
