Help With ALTER TABLE SWITCH (IDENTITY COLUMNS)

I am having problem when performing the alter table switch. Both tables are identical and have pk.
ALTER TABLE SWITCH statement failed. There is no identical index in source table 'LocalDeltanet.dbo.testresults' for the index 'PKIDX_testSummary' in target table 'LocalDeltanet.dbo.testresults_part' .

A customer wants to implement table partitioning on a replicated table.
They want to hold 13 months of data in the table and roll off the earliest/oldest month to an identical archive table. The table has a date field and partitioning by month makes sense all around.
So SWITCH PARTITION is the obvious solution to this, except for the fact that the table is replicated (transactional w/no subscriber updates).
What are his architectural or practical solutions to using table partitioning and replication?

Working on partitioning a few large tables. One of the tables included a text column and the €śTEXTIMAGE_ON [PRIMARY]€? clause which would prevent the partitioning of this table. After some research we found that the data was legacy and no longer used. We updated the column on the affected rows to NULLS and altered the column to a VARCHAR(20)
When I attempted to run the ALTER TABLE SWITCH I encountered the error
Msg 4947, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
ALTER TABLE SWITCH statement failed. There is no identical index in source table 'LocalDeltanet.dbo.testresultsjoe' for the index 'PKIDX_testSummary' in target table 'LocalDeltanet.dbo.testresults_part'.
After a lot of grief and testing I determined that the message was bogus and the real issue is that the 'sys.tables' still has €ślob_data_space_id€? with a value of 1 for this table.
I created a copy of the table with the text column altered to varchar and one with just the varchar to begin with. After copying data from the original table, I tried to run the alter switch. It failed once again for the text column altered to varchar table, but it worked for the varchar from the start.
Since it appears that this value is causing my issues, is there anyway to update the table in place. I know I can BCP the data out, but that would take too long and would defeat the advantage of using the alter switch method.
BOL States:
The allow updates option is still present in the sp_configure stored procedure, although its functionality is unavailable in Microsoft SQL Server 2005 (the setting has no effect). In SQL Server 2005, direct updates to the system tables are not supported. This means we cannot update the table manually.

and I need to change the column type for the columns:

to integer, and set the column [RowID Table Level] as Identity (index) starting from 1, incrementing 1 each time.

I am dropping 60 out of 133 columns on a user table, but am finding that the spaceused by the table ( as shown by sysindexes.dpages ) is not being freed up.
I have dropped and recreated all indexes on the table, with no effect on the dpages value, as well as running dbcc updateusage for the table.
Is it not possible to free up the space used by using this method ?
Is recreating and repopulating the table with only the required columns the correct / only way to do this ?

I need to perform this task. say I have a table that the columns are dates.
Table months:
[02-2015],[03-2015], [04-2015],[04-2015]....[02-2016].
When the new month comes I want the table to alter the columns automatically instead of manual how we do it now. The new Month table should delete [02-2015] and replace it with [03-2015].

I just created a new table with over 100 Columns and I need to populated just the first 2 columns.
The first columns to populate is an identify column that is the primary key. The second column is a foreign_key to an other column and I am trying to populate this columns with all the values from the foreign_key value. This is what I am trying to do.

Keep in mind this is my first compiled SQL program Stored Procedure(SP), copied from a book by Frasier Visual C++.NET in Visual Studio2005 (Chap12). So far, so theory, except for one bug (feature?)below. At some point I'm sure I'll be able to laugh about this, akinto forgeting a semi-colon in C/C++, but right now it's frustrating(time to sleep on it for a while).Problem--For some reason I get the error when trying to save files where twotables (called Author and Content), linked by a single key, form arelationship.By simple comparison of the source code in the textbook and my program(below) I found the difference: instead of, like in the textbook, theStored Procedure (SP) starting with "CREATE PROCEDURE", it*automatically* is (was somehow) given the name of 'ALTER PROCEDURE'and I cannot change this to "CREATE PROCEDURE" (you get an error in MSVisual Studio 2005 Pro edition of "There is already an object namedXXX in the database", see *|* below). Basically I have 635k records in a table with a person's first name, and date of birth (other stuff but it's not relavent). I imported all the data from excel files, but somehow a bunch of records got the first name and date of birth mixed up, so I'm trying to write a stored procedure that would switch the first name with the date of birth wherever the firstname is purely numeric, or something of the sort. Now records are in fact repeated so another possible but more time taking solution is to write a stored procedure that I give the date of birth and it does the switching around for the respective date of birth when it's found inside the First name. Any suggestions? All the code I've written has proved useless :/

I'm attempting to remove the IDENTITY property from a column using the ALTER command but can't seem to find the right syntax. I've tried every conceivable combination I can think of. I can add the property to a column that doesn't have it.
It's easy to do in Enterprise Mgr., but I want to script the change.
I really don't want to drop the table and rebuild if I don't have to.

Hello All,
There is a table A in SQL. One of the column of A was IDENTITY before and was getting referenced in other table B.
During migration to SQL 2005, I removed the IDENTITY constraint and imported all the data from 2000 to 2005. Now I have to deploy the IDENTITY back to the column. I am getting an error while executing the code:
ALTER TABLE TableA
ALTER COLUMN ColumnA
ADD CONSTRAINT IDENTITY(445,1)
Can anyone tell me where I am going wrong? Or if there is any other way to do it. There are 50+ tables I need to do the same.

I have been trying to figure out how to use ALTER TABLE/ COLUMN to modify a column from an IDENTITY column to one which is not an IDENTITY column.
I would like to do this so that I could add another column (using ALTER) and set it as the IDENTITY column.
Any thoughts?

Is there any way to remove the IDENTITY property of a column? I originally used it, but it caused so many headaches with ADO.NET that I've decided to just increment the darn things manually. So I want to turn it into just a normal integer column.
If there's no direct way, can someone suggest a quick way to create a new column, copy all the old values into the new column, change the primary key to the new column, and drop the old column?

Hi,
I am planning to use transacational replication (instead of merge replication) on my SQL server 2000. My application is already live and is being used by real users.
How can I ensure that replicated data on different server would have exact same values of identity columns and date columns (where every I set default date to getdate())?
It is very important for me to have a mirror image of data (without using clustering servers).
Any help would be appreciated.

I am trying my first sliding partition scheme with 2005, and I am getting the following error...
ALTER TABLE SWITCH statement failed. Check constraints or partition function of source table "ScanStoreAggregateLoad' allows values that are not allowed by check constraints or partition function on target table "ScanStoreAggregateTest'.

Hello everyone, thanks in advance for reading. I'm new to reports and have tried searching for my answer with no luck. Any direction would be great.
Here is the issue, I have 3 colums in the dataset which display String data ("High", "Medium", or "Low")
I've added a column to the table on the report where I would like to convert the value of "High", "Medium" and "Low" to 3,2,1 respectively then SUM these numbers.
Is this possible? I've tried several variations of the code below--maybe it's not possible to do what I want? Thanks again for your time and help.
