I really need your help. I’ve got a table with 4 columns – username (a string of text), dateTime (a date and time), duration (time in minutes), roomID (URL). I really need some help with writing up some code behind to check if a user has permission to continue. I’ve got the first bit, but I need help with collecting the data and testing it:
SqlConnection conn = new SqlConnection(Global.ConnectionString);
SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand("select * from tblActiveSession where Username=@Username", conn);
I need to find out how I can detect a NULL dataset at runtime. I have just released my first report using SQLServer Reporting services and all went well until I had an empty dataset on the server. There was no problem ever on my development system, running under Visual Studio 2005 Pro, even if I got no data back. Shortly after release to the server though I found that the report reported javascript errors. After a lot of searching I nailed it down to my code that alternated the background color of the rows in the report. The code looks like this:
=iif( RowNumber("DataRecords") Mod 2, "WhiteSmoke", "White")
I had this line in the BackGround property for my table row. It works great, unless DataRecords is Null and RowNumber is 0. I ended up taking the expression out, because I could not find a way to test if DataRecords was null or RowNumber was 0, without getting a compiler error.
Can anyone here tell me what I need to do so I can put that expression back in and alternate the color of my data rows again? I get the data using a stored procedure, if that matters.
Is there any better way to debug a query encased in IIF statements thanto find bugs at runtime? I have an especially ugly CommandText for oneof my datasets, and debugging it when there is an error is nearlyimpossible. I realize that it's much cleaner when you have straightSQL, but otherwise the tool doesn't seem to be very user-friendly.Thanks,Mike
I would like to know what the best method of handling a rather large record selection task.
Here is the crystal version.
if {?WhseRegion} = 'Western' then {R_ShippingLog;1.InvUnitSite} in ['LA','AL','DA','DB','OA','PO','SE','TH','TN']
else if {?WhseRegion} = 'Eastern' then {R_ShippingLog;1.InvUnitSite} in ['AD','BE','CH','CI','EL','FL','IL','JL','KC','KS','MA','MI','MK','NE','NJ','NO','PA','SA','STL']
else {R_ShippingLog;1.InvUnitSite} in ['LA','AL','DA','DB','OA','PO','SE','TH','TN','AD','BE','CH','CI','EL','FL','IL','JL','KC','KS','MA','MI','MK','NE','NJ','NO','PA','SA','STL']
What I trying to figure out is how to incorporate the above in the dataset filter area on the datagrid.
Hi I'm modifying a report from MS CRM. Sales Pipeline. Not the easiest one but still. I just got to the drilldown report and need to change some things in it. I tested the SQL code as I could in SQL Server Management Studio so that I don't have any misspellings (the report I'm modifying is on a remote location). Anyway, now that I copy my code to the SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio and to the dataset I'm modyfing I see that a chunk of code from the bottom is missing ... ??? ... is there a limit on how much I can type?!
I counted in Word that I have 33.176 characters and 878 lines of code. Is that to much?! The original report has a dataset of 27.529 characters and 724 lines of SQL code.
For setting different languages on the column haeders i need to access a dataset from a custom code function call. I want to pass a parameter to the function that will allow me to find a specific item in the dataset - like a lookup function. I cannot find a way to get access to the entire dataset and to iterate through its components.
Is there any solution? Every hint will be helpful!
I have dataadapter and dataset that reads/writes to SQL tables. I can read. I can create "new" records. However, I have not been able to master the "updating" of an existing row. Can someone provide me specific code for doing this please or tell me what I doing wrong in the code below. The code I using is below. I don't get error, but changes do not get written to SQL dbase. For starters, I think I "not" supposed to use the 2nd line(....NewRow). I think this is only for new row, not updating of existing row - but I don't know any other way to get schema of row. thanks to any who can help
Hi I wonder if it is possible to create a dataset in code and then feed it to a Reporting Svcs (RS) report and have it rendered on the data from this dataset. My collegues does this with Crystal and it would break my heart if I cant do this with (RS)... I have tried to find a solution but so far, no luck. Anyone have any ideas?
I'm having a strange problem that I can't figure out. I have an SQL stored procedure that updates a small database table. When testing the Stored Procedure from the Server Explorer, it works fine. However, when I run the C# code that's supposed to use it, the data doesn't get saved. The C# code seems to run correctly and the parameters that are passed to the SP seem to be okay. No exceptions are thrown. The C# code: SqlConnection conn = new SqlConnection(ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["touristsConnectionString"].ConnectionString); SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand("fort_SaveRedirectURL", conn); cmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure; Label accomIdLabel = (Label)DetailsView1.FindControl("lblID"); int accomId = Convert.ToInt32(accomIdLabel.Text); cmd.Parameters.Add("@accomId", SqlDbType.Int).Value = accomId; cmd.Parameters.Add("@path", SqlDbType.VarChar, 250).Value = GeneratePath(); try { conn.Open(); cmd.ExecuteNonQuery(); } catch(Exception ex) { throw ex; } finally { conn.Close(); } The Stored Procedure: ALTER PROCEDURE developers.fort_SaveRedirectURL ( @accomId int, @path varchar(250) ) AS DECLARE @enabled bit, @oldpath varchar(250)
/* Ensure that the accommodation has been enabled */ SELECT @enabled = enabled FROM Experimental_Accommodation WHERE Experimental_Accommodation.id = @accomId
IF (@enabled = 1) BEGIN /* Now check if a path already exists */ SELECT @oldpath = oldpath FROM Experimental_Adpages_Redirect WHERE Experimental_Adpages_Redirect.accom_id = @accomId
IF @oldpath IS NULL BEGIN /* If Path already exists then we should keep the existing URL */ /* Otherwise, we need to insert a new one */ INSERT INTO Experimental_Adpages_Redirect (oldpath, accom_id) VALUES (@path,@accomId) END END RETURN
I used a function to create dataset as below: Public Function GetSQLDataSet(ByVal SQL As String) As DataSet ...... MyConnection = New SqlConnection(MyConnectionString) MyCommand = New SqlCommand(SQL, MyConnection) MyDataSet = New DataSet MySQLDataAdapter = New SqlDataAdapter(MyCommand) MySQLDataAdapter.Fill(MyDataSet) ...... End function It works fine. How to code a function to return a dataset in which there are two tables and relationship?
I have a report with multiple datasets, the first of which pulls in data based on user entered parameters (sales date range and property use codes). Dataset1 pulls property id's and other sales data from a table (2014_COST) based on the user's parameters. I have set up another table (AUDITS) that I would like to use in dataset6. This table has 3 columns (Property ID's, Sales Price and Sales Date). I would like for dataset6 to pull the Property ID's that are NOT contained in the results from dataset1. In other words, I'd like the results of dataset6 to show me the property id's that are contained in the AUDITS table but which are not being pulled into dataset1. Both tables are in the same database.
I have a small number of rows in a dataset, Table 1. There is a CLOB on a large dataset, Table 2. They join on a PK. I would like to retrieve this CLOB and add it to the data flow for Table1. In short I want to emulate the following:
Table 1: Small table without CLOB, 10 rows. Table 2: Large table with CLOB, 10,000,000 rows
select CLOB from table2 where pk = (select pk from table1)
I want this to return the CLOBs for the small number of rows in Table 1. The PK is indexed obviously so it should be a fast look up.
Table 1 and Table 2 live on different Oracle databases. How do I perform this operation efficiently in SSIS? It seems the Lookup and Merge Join wont do this.

I found out the data I need for my SQL Report is already defined in a dynamic dataset on another web service. Is there a way to use web services to call another web service to get the dataset I need to generate a report? Examples would help if you have any, thanks for looking
Hi, I have a stored procedure attached below. It returns 2 rows in the SQL Management studio when I execute MyStorProc 0,28. But in my program which uses ADOHelper, it returns a dataset with tables.count=0. if I comment out the line --If @Status = 0 then it returns the rows. Obviously it does not stop in if @Status=0 even if I pass @status=0. What am I doing wrong? Any help is appreciated.
ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[MyStorProc]
(
@Status smallint,
@RowCount int = NULL,
@FacilityId numeric(10,0) = NULL,
@QueueID numeric (10,0)= NULL,
@VendorId numeric(10, 0) = NULL
)
AS
SET NOCOUNT ON
SET CONCAT_NULL_YIELDS_NULL OFF
If @Status = 0
BEGIN
SELECT ...... END If @Status = 1 BEGIN SELECT...... END
i have two datasets.one dataset have old data from some other database.second dataset have original data from sql server 2005 database.both database have same field having id as a primary key.i want to transfer all the data from first dataset to new dataset retaining the previous data but if old dataset have the same id(primary key) as in the new one then that row will not transfer. but if the id(primary key) have changed values then the fields updated with that data.how can i do that.
D2 is a list of data. each row in D2 has a classid. D2 may or may not have all the classids in D1. all classids in D2 must be in D1.
I want to show fields in D2 and group the data with classids in D1 and show every group as a seperate table. If no data in D2 is available for a classid, It shows a empty table.
=CountDistinct(IIF(Fields!Released_DT.Value = Fields!Date2.Value, Fields!Name.Value, Nothing)) Released_DT = a date - 09/03/2015 or 09/02/2015 Date2 = returns another date value in this case 09/03/2015
What I'm trying to do is: count distinct number of people (Fields!Name.Value) if the Relased_DT = Date2.My IIF statement is returning a zero value.
Hi all--I'm trying to convert a function which I inherited from a SQL Server 2000 DTS package to something usable in an SSIS package in SQL Server 2005. Given the original code here: Function Main() on error resume next dim cn, i, rs, sSQL Set cn = CreateObject("ADODB.Connection") cn.Open "Provider=sqloledb;Server=<server_name>;Database=<db_name>;User ID=<sysadmin_user>;Password=<password>" set rs = CreateObject("ADODB.Recordset") set rs = DTSGlobalVariables("SQLstring").value
for i = 1 to rs.RecordCount sSQL = rs.Fields(0).value cn.Execute sSQL, , 128 'adExecuteNoRecords option for faster execution rs.MoveNext Next
Main = DTSTaskExecResult_Success
End Function
This code was originally programmed in the SQL Server ActiveX Task type in a DTS package designed to take an open-ended number of SQL statements generated by another task as input, then execute each SQL statement sequentially. Upon this code's success, move on to the next step. (Of course, there was no additional documentation with this code. :-)
Based on other postings, I attempted to push this code into a Visual Studio BI 2005 Script Task with the following change:
public Sub Main()
...
Dts.TaskResult = Dts.Results.Success
End Class
I get the following error when I attempt to compile this:
Error 30209: Option Strict On requires all variable declarations to have an 'As' clause.
I am new to Visual Basic, so I'm on a learning curve here. From what I know of this script: - The variables here violate the new Option Strict On requirement in VS 2005 to declare what type of object your variable is supposed to use.
- I need to explicitly declare each object, unless I turn off the Option Strict On (which didn't seem recommended, based on what I read).
Given this statement:
dim cn, i, rs, sSQL
I'm looking at "i" as type Integer; rs and sSQL are open-ended arrays, but can't quite figure out how to read the code here:
This code seems to create an instance of a COM component, then pass provider information and create the recordset being passed in by the previous task, but am not sure whether this syntax is correct for VS 2005 or what data type declaration to make here. Any ideas/help on how to rewrite this code would be greatly appreciated!
Table 1: AddressBook Fields --> User Name, Address, CountryCode
Table 2: Country Fields --> Country Code, Country Name
Step 1 : I have created a Cube with these two tables using SSAS.
Step 2 : I have created a report in SSRS showing Address list.
The Column in the report are User Name, Address, Country Name
But I have no idea, how to convert this Country Code to Country name.
I am generating the report using the Layout tab. ( Data | Layout | Preview ) Report1.rdl [Design]
Anyone help me to solve this issue. Because, in our project most of the transaction tables have Code and Code description in master table. I need to convert all code into corresponding description in all my reports.
I am using SqlServer 2005 Express Edition. I have written a stored procedure that has a transaction to make sure that it rolls back in case of failure. Is there a way to test that the transaction works. I don't now how to cause an error that would cause the transaction to roll back and raise the error with the details of the exception. Thanks, laura
hello everyone i was hoping to get some help. i have sql server2000 and iis5.1 running and im using vbscript through asp. i have a table that has two keys so that together they make a unique key. so i am trying to test my table in asp so that if there is a duplicate unique key inserted then show an error... Can anyone help me?
I want to run remote procs from a local - central proc, but don't want to crash my proc if the remote NT Server or SQL Server is not available. So, I want to test for NT and SQL availability first.
/* I find the server-dbasename name in a lookup table, and then build dynamic script */ SELECT @DBName = "<SRVRNAME~DBASENAME>" SELECT @QueryString = N'master..xp_cmdshell "ECHO >' + SUBSTRING(@DBName, 1,6) + 'pipesqlquery", no_output' EXEC @Results = sp_executesql @QueryString
SELECT @Results /* <-- testing here.... */
=====================
If the NT / SQL is running, "@Results" should = 0 (success on the ECHO to the PIPE) If the NT / SQL is NOT running, "@Results" should = 1 (error on the ECHO to the PIPE)
If I test in QA, I get the expected "@Results" values.
If I run the proc, I get "@Results" = 0 for both events, and them my proc fails on the remote proc call if the NT / SQL is NOT running.
I don't know how to write DMO in TSQL to try that. I have also tried using 'odbcping' too.
HINTS? Better way to test remote NT / SQL is NOT running?
i have performed all the steps for the replication there are two problems i encounytring (i) how to check whether the replication is working or not (ii) can replication on the subscribing server automatically create the table which publishing server is publshing (iii)please tell me someother forums for sql server
what my knowledge says that in replication if i modify the data at one place it should automatically be modified in the subscribing server but this thing is also not happening (its not flashing any error message as such) please tell me what all things i need to do to make sure that everything starts working
I'm new to this forum and as well as new to OLAP testing . I would like to know OLAP testing and guidance for SQL server anlaysis services .
I have been trying install SQL server 2000 in my system but it not going through, Can anybody send information how to install SQL server and how to play with sample database.
Has anyone ever heard of using Response.Write to test sql queries in the query designer? Here is the actual suggestion I was given recently:
Response.write your sql query. Copy the query to your db query tool and run the query. Adjust the query as necessary to return the recordset you desire. When you have the proper query, adjust your asp code.
The query editor/designer doesn't like certain symbols and extraneous code. So how exactly can you use Response.Write with a sql query without getting errors in designer?
I've begun some testing with the June beta of SQL 2005. One problemI've hit is with scalar-valued functions. The error I often get whenexecuting functions is "Select statements included within a functioncannot return data to a client.". These same functions are workingfine under SQL 2000.Has anybody seen this behavior or know what the deal is?
