Unable To Connect To Oracle Using Microsoft OLEDB Provider For Oracle

Aug 23, 2007

Hi everybody,

I have designed a DTS package which will migrate a view from Sqlserver 2000 to Oracle. My package is using Microsoft OLEDB provider for Oracle driver for connecting to oracle.Im able to execute this package on the my system ie on the system where sqlclient is installed(Oracle client is also installed on my machine) .But when im doing it on the server im not able to do it.The Connection to Oracle Fails.
I wanted to know in order to connect to Oracle from the server,is it necessary that Oracle has to be installed on the server?.If yes, is it enough if i install oracle client on the server or Oracle Server version has to be installed on Server.

Please suggest me wht should i do know?

Thanks in advance

Issues Using Parameterised Reports Connecting To Oracle Using ODBC And Microsoft OLE DB Provider For Oracle

Sep 12, 2007

I have an issue using parameterised reports connecting to Oracle using "ODBC" and "Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle" using parameteried reports. The following error is generated "ORA-01008 not all variables bound (Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle)" and a similiar one for ODBC. It works fine for simple reports. Do these 2 drivers have issues passing parameters for a remote Oracle query?
Thanks.

Oracle Connection Fail With Microsoft OLEDB Provider For Oracle MSDAORA.1

Feb 22, 2006

Hello,

On my dev server I have working ssis packages that use connections Microsoft OLEDB provider for Oracle MSDAORA.1 and Oracle provider for oledb and OracleClient data provider.

I use one or the other according to my needs.

In anticipation and to prepare for the build of a new production server, I have build a test server from scratch and deployed to it the entire dev.

Almost everything works except Microsoft OLEDB provider for Oracle.

ssis packages on the test machine will return an error

Error at Pull Calendar from One [OLE DB Source [1]]: The AcquireConnection method call to the connection manager "one.oledb" failed with error code 0xC0202009.

Error at Pull Calendar from One [DTS.Pipeline]: component "OLE DB Source" (1) failed validation and returned error code 0xC020801C.

[Connection manager "one.oledb"]: An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80004005.

An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle" Hresult: 0x80004005 Description: "Oracle error occurred, but error message could not be retrieved from Oracle.".

I have used the same installers for OS, SQL and Oracle SQL*Net on both dev and test machines. The install and then the restore/deployment on Test went fine.

Does anyone could point me to the right direction to solve this issue?

Thanks,

Philippe

Microsoft SQL Server For The Oracle-centric

Mar 9, 2004

I've recently taken over management responsibility for an application that uses Microsoft SQL Server 2000.

My experience is primarily in Oracle and I've already self educated myself about some of the differences (such as needing to initiate a BEGIN TRAN if I want a rollback segment.)

I couldn't readily find any resources that would coach me in the core differences between Oracle and SQL Server and I wondered if someone could point me in the right direction.

Thanks for your help.

Microsoft OLE DB Provider For Oracle 64-Bit, SQL Server 2008: Does It Exist?

Does anyone know if the "Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle" in 64-Bit Windows exists in SQL Server 2008 64-bit? It only existed in 32-bit SQL 2005, which was a big problem. Needed for Linked Server creation. We do not want to use OPENQUERY calls with the native Oracle 10G driver, too many coding changes.

Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Management Studio - Opening SQL-File From Explorer Does Not Connect Automaticly To Server/database

Apr 25, 2008

hello,

I have a question about opening files in the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Management Studio.

In the old Query Analyzer from SQL 2000 I can open SQL Files via drag & drop (from explorer to QA) or open it with a double click in the explorer. Then the Files opened, if I had actual a connection to a server / database (QA is stared with one file and has a connection to Server/Datebase), with this connection.

Now in Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Management Studio I'll be asked everytime for Server and have to get the database from the database list - it does not connect automaticly to server/database, that is actual connected (I have opened a file with the connection and a connected database in the object explorer).

Someone do not have this problem - but we found no option to set it up.

Any ideas?

thanks &
best regards,

SQL Server - Oracle Differences - Connect By Prior

Dec 5, 2007

Hello ,

I'm facing a complicated problem and I don't think that the solution will be an easy one.

I have an SQL statement in Oracle which I need to translate it in Sql Server 2005.

select lpad(' ',5*(orderid)) || to_char(descr) as menui
from <table _name>
where MENU_ITEM not in ('test1','test2','test3') and item_parent not in ('test4,'test5,'test6')
start with <item_parent='item_parent' >
connect by prior <menu_item = item_parent and menu_name='ADR_m_adr_frame'; > ?(condition)

Somewhere I have read that SQL server does not support Hierarchical Sql statements. Is this true ? How am I going to do that ?

Any help will be appreciated.

We have recently migrated from SQL 2000 (32bit) to SQL 2005 on Win2003 (both are 64bit). And we have Legacy DTS packages on SQL 2005, some packages are pulling records from Oracle 10g (32bit server). When I execute the DTS package I am getting following error.

These components are supplied by Oracle Corporation and are part of the Oracle Version 7.3.3 or later client software installation. Did I need to install/update any MS OLE DB driver for Orace.
Some blogs & forums suggesting to install Oracle 10g Client. If so Which version of Oracle client(32bit/64bit) I have to install?.

Microsoft OLE DB Provider For Oracle

Oct 26, 2000

Hi,

I issued the following set of statements against an Oracle 8.0.6 table linked to Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 (SP2):

BEGIN TRANSACTION
DELETE FROM ORACLE_DATABASE..SCHEMA1.TABLE1 WHERE COLUMN2=123.45
ROLLBACK TRANSACTION

and received the following message:

Server: Msg 7391, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
The operation could not be performed because the OLE DB provider 'MSDAORA' does not support distributed transactions.

I searched BOL and found this sentence:

To perform distributed transactions between SQL Server and Oracle, you must use Oracle version 8.0.4.1 or later.

What am I missing? Is there a higher version of Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle that supports distributed transactions (we are using the one that comes with Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 installation)?

Cannot Connect Using ADO With Excel Microsoft Jet Provider 4.0

Feb 15, 2007

Hi:

I have a vb 6 app that exports data from sql to excel. The user has the ability to select either local or server. When they select server, the connection string is modified to include the server name instead of the local msde instance to look like this:

"provider=sqloledb;data source=MyServer;initial catalog=MyDatabase;user id=UserX;password=PasswordX;database=MyDatabase"

I'm using Microsoft Jet Provider 4.0 and OpenDataSource.

SELECT * INTO TempXL FROM OPENDATASOURCE('Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0',
'Data Source=C: estxltest.xls;Extended Properties=Excel 8.0')...[Sheet1$]

This code works fine when user is accessing msde on local, but when using above DSN, I receive the following message:

"2147217900 - OLE DB error trace [OLE/DB Provider 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEdB.4.0' IDBInitialize:: Initialize returned 0x800040005: The provider did not give any information about the error.]

When I trace the connection, these error messages occur:

Failed to set proper user name ('NT AUTHORITYSYSTEM') for the connection

[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Cannot alter table 'TblXMyTable' because this table does not exist in database 'master'. (State 42S02) (Code 4902)

[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Invalid object name 'TblxMytable'. (State 42S02) (Code 208)

[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]OLE DB provider 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0' reported an error. The provider did not give any information about the error. (State 42000) (Code 7399)

[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]OLE DB error trace [OLE/DB Provider 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0' IDBInitialize::Initialize returned 0x80004005: The provider did not give any information about the error.]. (State 01000) (Code 7300)

I am especially puzzled by the second message because I am specifying the database name in my connection string as:

"provider=sqloledb;data source=MyServer;initial catalog=MyDatabase;user id=UserX;password=PasswordX;database=MyDatabase"

I can read from the server copy and copy to Excel, but I cannot write back to SQL. Can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks in advance for any help.,

Feedback On Microsoft Connect Site

Feb 17, 2007

I don't know how many folks here log into the Microsoft Connect site occasionally to check suggestions and bugs submitted to Microsoft for SQL Server and SSIS (still called DTS on their list). A small pecentage? Almost everyone? (Possibly in this group.) Anyone can vote for feedback they think is important. Theoretically issues with the most votes will get Microsoft's attention first.

Links to a couple new submissions that look interesting:

1. SSMS/QA Style Message Logging for SSIS Execute SQL Tasks
2. ForEach SMO Enumerator Filtering

I vetted these issues in the forum first, so hopefully they're legitimate enough to warrant some useful feedback or even a few high fives!

Can't Connect To Oracle

Jul 20, 2005

Hi all,Being that so far I didn't get an answer to my below problem on theOracle newsgroup, I figured it couldn't hurt to try here. While at my current job I've been working with mostly SQL Server, nowI need to connect to our Oracle Financials running on HP-UX. TheOracle DBA set me up as a user and installed the Oracle client on mybox and I have the tnsnames file, but I still can't establish aconnection to the database from my development environment... I'mgetting an error message "ORA-12224 TNS:no listener".At a previous company I also had Visual Studio and was able to connectto the Oracle databases from it... I want to do the same thing here, plus I need to set the Oracle database up as a linked server with mySQL Servers so I can make distributed transactions. (No heartattacks please, I'm going to create a couple of tables on the Oracleside and the Oracle DBA will put triggers on them so that whenever Iinsert to them he grabs the data and feeds it to the canned processesin OF.)The Oracle DBA gave me a little utility with a window where I can typefreehand SQL and get results but not nicely, so I know the connectionisn't impossible, but I need to be able to address the Oracle databaseprogrammatically. I thought the problem might be related to the factthat I don't see the unix box in Network, although I can ping iteither by name or IP address... the Oracle guy said for me to see itin Network he'd have to install something I forget the name of.(Something like NFS???) Someone suggested I put an entry in the hostsfile, which I did, to no avail... although I think it's in the wrongplace, it's in WINNTSystem32Driversetc. The Oracle guy says hethinks the problem is that the MS OLE DB Provider for Oracle doesn'tknow to look in the tnsnames file, but I find that difficult tobelieve. He said maybe somewhere I need to enter a "path" to it...(I vaguely remember something about setting paths back in the DOSdays...)So anyway, can any of you tell me what to do?Thanks very much in advance. :)

SqlDMO Connect Error From Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM)

Receiving error in MOM:
"Could not connect using SQLDMO to SQL Instance WEB. However, the instance is currently running."

Presents in Event Viewer as:
"18452: Login failed for user '(null)'. Reason: Not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection."

Troubleshooting so far:
Created simple SqlDMO VBScript that uses a trusted connection. This works fine from my desktop to all twenty (20) instances yet fails on the one server that MOM is running on.
