Thanks for reviewing my question. I would like to know how do you bring a database from SQL Express into a SQL 2005 server? I didn't find a way to import the SQLExpress (.mdf) file.
Can anyone refer me to good 'recipes' or sources of information on thistopic??I have Visual Studio Tools for Office, which installs SS 2005 Expresslocally to my XP box, and I want to develop in SS 2005, then copy thetables or queries or reports etc. to a SS 2005 Standard server.Thank you, Tom
Currently have two databases. A live database and a history database. Also have the ability to purge data from the live to the history database. What I'm looking for is the ability, if the table doesn't exist in history, to automatically create the table in the history database using the format of the table within the live database. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
I used aspnet_regsql to put membership tables, etc on sql server 2005. Is there a tool to help me build the web.config statement to point to these tables? I found the code below at http://www.c-sharpcorner.com/UploadFile/dsdaf/104092006022507AM/1.aspx?ArticleID=bc2ca2b0-9e3d-42ad-b4b9-0dce96231ce6 but it throws this error: Parser Error Message: Unrecognized configuration section membership. <membership> <providers> <remove name="AspNetSqlMembershipProvider" /> <add connectionStringName="MyDBConnectionString" enablePasswordRetrieval="false" enablePasswordReset="true" requiresQuestionAndAnswer="true" applicationName="/" requiresUniqueEmail="false" passwordFormat="Hashed" maxInvalidPasswordAttempts="5" minRequiredPasswordLength="7" minRequiredNonalphanumericCharacters="1" passwordAttemptWindow="10" passwordStrengthRegularExpression="" name="AspNetSqlMembershipProvider" type="System.Web.Security.SqlMembershipProvider, System.Web, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a" /> </providers> </membership
Is this even possible? I tried to move an existing Sql Server Express .mdf file to SQL Server 2000 by copying the .mdf file to the server's folder and then tried to attach it. I get:
Error 602: Could not find row in sysindexes for database ID 9, object ID 1, index ID1. Run DBCC CHECKTABLE on sysindexes.
I realize that I'm moving back a version in SQL, however the structure of the database is very simple. Does anyone know?
Even if I can just script the thing to SQL 2000 would be helpful, however the .mdf is a file within my ASP.Net site, and does not show up in my Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express under the appropriate SERVERNAMESQLEXPRESS either, so I can't figure out how to script it out?

Hello all. I have an .xsd file and a .xml file that goes with it. Are there any tools available that will build a database structure in SQL Server from either of these two files? I can't see the .xml file being of much use for building the structure, but how about the .xsd file?
I have a 3 workstation peer to peer network with everything running Windows XP Pro. I need to replace the machine that hosts my SQL MSDE server. I have built a new system and all software is installed except the MSDE. I use a proprietary product called Time Matters for my law practice that uses the SQL server. Since I might want to run Vista eventually (not right now) I thought that I would try to migrate the MSDE to SQL Express. I assume that Time Matters will run on SQL Express. Can someone please give me some help on how to proceed. I'm thinking that I will install the SQL Express server on the new machine and then somehow migrate the database over to the new machine and shut down the old unit. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I need input in how to define a proper model for a certain issue. I've got a table, testcase. Each row in table testcase relates to 1 or more statistics tables. (the statistics differ a lot , thats way I can't place them in the very samt table) Now, there are like 50 different statistics tables. And each row may only store statistics in some of them. Whats a proper model for this?
Ex: create foregin keys in testcase table (for all statistics thats like 50 foreign keys) that has a primary key in each statistics table. I then must have a dummy value in each statistics table to ensure that we do not violate the referencial integrety.
Ex: create a relation between prim.key of table testcase that has a foreign key in each statistics table.
ex: many-to-many, but this violates the referential integrety...since we relates to multiple tables on one side.
I am going to do database mirroring for. I need to configure what needs to be installed for mirror server and witness server with OS perspective. Does Mirror server have to have same hardware and software config as Principle server? Thanks
Hi. I need to move database schema (tables definiton with relations without data) form SQL Express to SQL 2005. Is there any easy way to do it? I'll be grateful for your help. Pawel
Hi I am tearing my hair out. I have tried upgrading form access to sql express. I have built the database and written all of my stored procedures. I think I am having problems with connecting to the server. I am storing my connection in the web.config. I am trying to open the datbase and add populate a reader, but i keep getting the error: Exception Details: System.Data.OleDb.OleDbException: No error message available, result code: DB_E_ERRORSOCCURRED(0x80040E21). Any help would be much appreciated. Code below: <connectionStrings> <add name="SQLProducts" connectionString="Provider=SQLOLEDB.1;Server=(local)SQLExpress;Database=laptopsqlexpress.ALLBUTYOUDB;Integrated Security=yes;"/> </connectionStrings>
Function GetCategoryProductNav(ByVal strCategoryID As String) As OleDbDataReader Dim objReader As OleDbDataReader Dim objCmd As New OleDbCommand("spGetCatProductNav", objConn) objCmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure Dim objParam As OleDbParameter objParam = New OleDbParameter("@CategoryID", OleDbType.Integer) objParam.Value = strCategoryID objCmd.Parameters.Add(objParam) Try objConn.Open() objReader = objCmd.ExecuteReader Catch ex As Exception Throw ex End Try Return objReader End Function
im using the the login controls with asp.net when i test locally everything works great, its see the ASPNETDB.MDF file, checks the login info and passes the user on to the next page.However when i move the application to the live server it fails, it cant find the datasource that contains users/password etc. here is there error:An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified) So im missing something here, im used to connecting directly to a remote SQL database and accessing the info from there. Can someone point me in the right direction? Can the MDF file not be used off the server itself without SQL express installed? Do i need to migrate those tables into a real SQL database?Thanks,Sean
Our current environment is: SQL Server 2000 backend; XP/Windows 2000 clients with MSDE loaded; a Microsoft Access 2002 app using DSN to connect to the local MSDE database; Merge replication which is a job within the MSDE engine that we execute in VBA code using the following DMO code:
' Find the Job name to execute
lngJobCount = oServer.JobServer.Jobs.Count
lngJobIndex = 1
blFoundJob = False
While lngJobIndex <= lngJobCount And blFoundJob = False
If InStr(1, strJobName, "LEXData", vbTextCompare) > 0 Then
If InStr(1, strJobName, strServerName, vbTextCompare) Then
blFoundJob = True
End If
End If
lngJobIndex = lngJobIndex + 1
Wend
' Execute the job
If blFoundJib Then
Set oServer1 = New SQLDMO.SQLServer
With oServer1
.LoginSecure = True
.Connect strServerName
End With
Set oJob = oServer1.JobServer.Jobs(strJobName)
End If
We are now planning a move to a SQL Server 2005 backend and Express edition on the clients and the app would remain as Access 2002. Any pointers to documents that will be useful would be appreciated but I have a couple of specific questions as well.
1) As I understand it we can load Express side by side with MSDE so we will probably go down that path and load the data from MSDE into an Express version of the database. Once that's done we will create a DSN pointing to the new database and name it the same as the DSN which is currently used for the MSDE database. If we do this will our Access app simply work as before (ignoring replication)?
2) When we have our app happily running against a DSN that points to an Express database would we expect our existing DMO code (as above) to work, e.g. find a particular job in a list jobs and executes it? I can see that the replication job itself may have to be rejigged for Server 2005.
I folks.I Have installed sql server 2005 express and choosed windowsauthentication on instalation, but i make a mistake and now i needmixed authentication, how can i modify this whithout uninstall andinstall again the application?thanks for the help.
We have developed a database with a lot of information in and we are going to move this database from a Win XP with SQL 2005 Express to a Windows 2003 server with MS Sql Standard 2005. How can we do that?
How do I move a tab serperated file into a table in SQL express using sql express? I need simple fast way to to this.
I can export all my access file into tab or comma files and then build the new tables and import them. I tried upsizing the table in access but sql express will not accept them at all and I cant find a way around it.
We have an old machine which holds SQL server 2000 database. We need to migrate a whole database to a new machine which has SQL server 2005.
When we tried to move whole database using Import and Export Wizard, only tables can be selected to import/export. However we want to import/export the whole database, including tables, stored procedure, view, etc. Which tool should we use?

We have a SQL Server 2000 ent edition sp4 with 3 small databases and one 4 GB database which is REPLICATED The Server has been bouncing like a yoyo today because of a disk controller problem and I am preparing to move the Instance to a whole new server this afternoon. The new Server will have the same IP and name as the original server.
Any suggestions for the easiest or most seamless way to make this happen? preferably using Backup and Restore since they plan on taking the old server down completely and then building a new server with the same name and IP ... any suggestions would be appreciated.
I have several jobs (most scripted in activeX) that I need to move to a different server. Is there an easy way to "copy and paste" them from one server to the other? (SQL7 to SQL2k)
I have a db that I created on my local machine and need to move it to our server. The problem is that I created it with sql server 2005 express and our server is a sql server 2000 so restore and attach don't work. I don't have management studio (just express) so I don't know what I need to do to move it. Any help is appreciated.
I moved the web app. I'm working on to another machine. Everything seemed to go well. Installed Reporting Services and configuration worked well with green ticks everywhere and I'm running reports in Report manager and in Visual Studio. However running off the web app. gives the message:
"The attempt to connect to Report Server failed" - there's also a ref. to an HTTP 404 error.
The install might not have gone as well as I thought because there was a "ReportServer" website created in IIS at same level as default. (Also Reports and ReportServer as virtual directories under Default website). The rogue website is 'stopped' at present. Would be grateful for any help with this. One thing is that I'm now behind a proxy so I'm using localhost:8080
