Block Port 1433 On Windows 2000 Server
Jul 20, 2005HiI have a question regarding the SQL Server(SQL Server 7) port 1433.Some body is trying to hack into our Windows 2000 server through port1433. Is there a way i can close this port? I tried using a toolcalled Ipsecpol.exe ( Internet Protocol Security Policies Tool). Butwhen we run netstat, it still looks like they are able to connect tothe server using port 1433. Has anyone come across this problem? Iwould appreciate it very much if somebody could send in anysuggestions regarding this.Thanks,Ann

I turned Port 1433 on in the server's Windows Firewall and was able to connect to the server's database engine from my laptop, but I have to turn Windows Firewall on the server off completely to be able to connect to the Reporting Server.
I have tried all the ports listed for SQL Server in the Microsoft documentation (TCP and UDP), but they seem to have no effect.
Can anyone tell me which port or ports I need to turn on in the server's firewall so that I can access Reporting Services through my laptop's SSMS?

I 've just installed SQL Server 2005 on Windows 2003 Server 64 bit. One of my databases need to connect to seveal Oracle databases.
- I tried installing 64 bit Orcale 9 on this server. Got a strange message that the application (Oracle 64 bit) could not be installed on a 32 bit server! Strange!
- I installed Oracle 9 32 bit on the server, but I could not find ODBC driver in the Data sources! Neither the oledb under providers in MSS Manager Studio!
- Same result efter several desintall and installation. A college copied the .dll files och run a script to register the dll files. We could then se the Oracle driver in the Database sources, but we could not create any connection.
- We have even tried an 10G version of Oracle with the same result.
Is there anyone who succeeded installing Oracle on 64 bit Windows and could create odbc connection/linked server?

Package Execution Fails In Windows Service But Runs Fine As A Windows Application.
Jun 23, 2006I am attempting to write a Windows service that watches a database for uploaded files to import. When a new file is found, the corresponding SSIS package is run from the file system with variables passed through. I started development as a Windows app and copied the functionality to a service.
The app runs fine. The service does not. I get a "Failure" each time a package is executed. Everything is identical behind the scenes with the obvious exceptions that OnStart and OnStop handlers are buttons in the app. I added a script task at the beginning of one of the SSIS packages to notify me that it is even running at all. It doesn't even hit that initial task.
Again, the app will run all packages just fine. The data is imported and the results return as "Success."
The following is the code executing the package. Any help is appreciated. I've been banging my head on this one for a few days now. (Is there a tag to format a code sample?)

How To Open SDF File Stored On Windows Mobile Device From A Windows Desktop App?

Have two C# applications - one WinForms desktop app, the other a WinForms smart device app. Both use SQL Server Compact CE 3.5 to store data locally. Both work just fine.
Now the desktop app needs to open and update the .SDF file that is stored on the Windows Mobile device. (Device will be docked via USB.)
What format would the path to the .SDF look like that the WinForms application would need to specify in order to open it?

I just upgraded from Windows XP Pro to Windows Vista Bussiness and tried to reinstall SQL Server 2005 Developers Edition. After the installation i downloaded (using microsoft windows update) and installed all the service packs for sql and vista available.
My problem is when i open sql server management studio and try to connect to my default instance using windows authentication and database engine, an 18456 error occurs.
I enabled all the protocols and all the ports
I disabled windows firewall and antivirus (eset nod32)
I installed all service packs available
I have also installed Visual Studio 2005 without installing sqlexpress
But nothing happens!
Please i am very desperate, any information will be gratefully accepted.

We are trying to move our application from SQL2005 to SQL2005, we are using 2005 jdbc driver 1.1.
The problem we have is, when a date is retrieved from the database, only the year part got correctly, but the date is automatically set to January 1 of that year. The interesting thing is this problem doesn't occur on local development environment (developer's windows platform), it only happens when we deploy the application to production server (unix).
Does anyone know what is going on, how to fix it?

There is no problem with Windows 98,Windows 2000 pro, Windows xp pro clients, but the windows 95 onescannot log in to the database. Login fails.Till a week ago the application was running on a Windows 2000 serverwith SQL 2000 install and the W95 clients had no problem connecting tothe database, so my guess is the error has something to do withWindows 2003 server, but what'causing the error?I tried to install a newer version of MDAC (MDAC 2.5, the last versionof MDAC you can install on W95)but with no success. What is this SqlQueryNotificationService in my database? Is it a SQL Server 2005 thing? Why the same kind of stored procedure does not exist in other databases, but BW_Content? This error is getting repeated most probably every second and is filling up our server.
I believe our corporate IT people removed our domain accounts from BWCINC domain to BWCORP domain and probably some application which is using BWCINCHoffK credential is getting errored out. I tried to locate this application and was not successful.
Is there anyway that I can stop this ERRORLOG from growing? How can I delete these log entries so that I can make space on our Hard Drive? Is there an easy way in SQL Server 2005 to locate which application is creating this error?

The 'SqlQueryNotificationService-...' is the service created by SqlDependency when you call SqlDependency.Start (). The problem you describe appears because the 'dbo' user of the database is mapped to the login that originally created this database. The SqlDependency created queue has an EXECUTE AS OWNER clause, owner is 'dbo' and therefore this is equivalent to an EXECUTE AS USER = 'dbo'. The error you see is reported by the domain controller when asked to give information about the original account 'dbo' mapps to (that is, BWCINCHoffK'): Error code: (Win32) 0x534 (1332) - No mapping between account names and security IDs was done.
To solve the issue, change 'dbo' to match a correct login, using either sp_changedbowner or ALTER AUTHORIZATION ON DATABASE::[dbname] TO [somavalidlogin]
To find the databases that have this problem, run this query:
select name, suser_sname(owner_sid) from sys.databases
The databses that have the problem will show NULL on the second column.

To remove the entries, use sp_cycle_errorlog to force a new errorlog file, then delete the huge log file.

May 25, 2001We just moved the back end of an Access db to an SQL server and upgraded to Access 2000. A strange problem has arisen. The execution of a query in a certain function seems to be causing the function to prematurely terminate (that is, the query does not complete, and the function does not execute beyond the execution of the query). This error occurs only on workstations loaded with Windows 98. Windows 2000 users are unaffected, and the function runs uninterrupted. The query in question contains date parameters. On the SQL server, dates are enclosed in single quotes (')'s, whereas in Access they are enclosed in pound signs (#)'s. When a query is sent by Access to the SQL server, it is filtered through a program that converts the Access format to SQL-friendly code. Our theory is that this process fails to occur on the machines running Windows 98. Does anyone know why this is occuring?

Oct 12, 2004We have an installation of MS SQL Server (MSDE actually) runnning on a group of Windows 2k machines. Due to IT constraints at the customer site, we are using Windows authentication, but it is all done with local user accounts, not domain accounts.
We have the same user account witht he same password locally created on each machine. This works fine with all the Win2K machines (not the best solution, but under the client's insane IT department, it's all we were allowed to do).
The problem is that we tried to add an XP machine. While we can connect to a DB running on a 2K machine from the XP workstation, the XP system will not accept connections from the 2K systems. We have done a little research and think we have found out why- the 2K systems are sending usernames for authentication, but the XP is looking for the UID- which is different on every system.
We cannot go to SQL authentication, and we cannot use Domain authentication. Is there a way to change XP to authenticate from username instead of UID?

I've looked through the MSDN site and found a number of articles that discuss ODBC Driver development. I've read through the ODBC API reference manual and have a pretty good idea what needs to be done.
What I need to move forward is to find some example code that I can look at. An article that identifies the steps to creating and deploying an ODBC driver would be great!
Does anyone know where I can find some ODBC Driver example code? Would it help if I had an MSDN Subscription?

Does anybody have a working Java code sample that connects to an SQLServer 2005 database on a remote host, via the default named pipe, from a client using the SQLServer 2005 JDBC driver? Could you post it, or a pointer to it?
I've gotten java.sql DriverManager.getConnection() to work fine with TCP/IP connections before. But I'm a newbie with named pipes, and unclear on how the connection string/properties are different. I've tried to piece it together from multiple docs and threads, but haven't found sample code that quite fits my situation. I think a simple working example would best clarify the syntax.
The server is not using SQL Express. Most SQLServer configuration options are defaults; the named pipes protocol is enabled.

But we use also Unix, Solaris, Sun... as platforms.
And we don't really know if BCP is so nice on thse others platforms

Sep 26, 2000Need to install SQL 7 under windows 2000 (professional version), thought it should be.
However, in the install (Standard) process, first msgbox "You could only have client utility". Hit 'OK' to ignore this message, and the whole installation finished completely.
Issue: could not register the server name of 'SQA-Test1' nor connect through the isql/w. Thus, not quite sure the relationship between SQL 7 and Win2000.
