I've used the ADS sample program and it works well. I looked at the code and changed it to VB (sorry, I'm not biligual yet), and have tried to 'adjust' it so I can connect to a remote PC (XP running IIS) instead of the local PC using the workgroup information database (system.mdw). Any ideas of the connection string that could make the connection?..my intention is to RDA once a week between a mobile device (3g/gsm) and a 'poor man's' IIS web server.
I've tried everything I can think of, and I'm sure its possible since all I'm doing is changing the connection path.
Hi can anybody know how to connect remote database with asp.net application? Actually my database is in different machine (in different server, different location) so i want to connect that server. Every time I'm getting the fallowing message
An error has occured while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections.

I have a remote SQLExpress instance running. I can connect to its databases with the SQL Server Management Studio Express and Visualstudio (Datasources) on a remote system and on a local system.
But as soon as I try to run or debug a vb application a system security error apears.

I have my normal SQL 2005 database....and another database (on the same machine) that is the default aspnet database. I use that for authentication of course. Everything is working well except now I need to (for a SP I'm creating) access the UserID field in the Users table (without the customer logged in). I know this isn't the best way to do it but....Can someone tell me how to programatically (from an existing SP) access the aspnet database? So I can just check something against the UserID (providerkey) I already have? The customer isn't logged in at this point. I have their UserID from somewhere else. Here is what I am trying to use now. IT Works in Query Manager but throws an error (...in this security context) when I run it in ASP.NET...SELECT @UserName=(select UserName from [aspnetdb].dbo.aspnet_Users where UserID=@UserID) Thanks.

Hi all,I need some help to access an SQL db on another machine. I am using VB.NETand remoting to make a client/server connection...although I don't thinkthis is relevant to the question.I have been asked to help with a small db project that will reside on ouroffice server and have approx. 5 users.I have installed a copy of MSDE on my development machine and plan on doingthe same on my office 'server'....in fact it may well already be on there. Ialso have another testbed to act as the client.Because I don't really know what I'm doing...........I have copied the dbcreated on my client to the server. I have done this by 'cheating'. We wonder about 2000 and 2005.

I have installed MS SQL 2005 in my system. I have created one database in my server. When iam running my application with this connections it is working fine in my local system. When i uploaded the database to some where dataserver, Iam not getting the connectins due to no remote access .
Some body suggested that to start the SQL browser in the SQL Server Configuration Manager.
I go there n tried to start the service when i put the service properties to Automatic or Manual i am getting the error message that is saying that the service is disabled cannot start automatically.
What could be the wrong?

2- In developing area there is no problem for accessing database
3- After deploying to another server there is problem accessing database:

We log ship our production database tansaction logs to a secondary database on a separate remote domain.
Incidentally, this was not set up via the "Ship Transaction Logs" wizard, but instead we had to use the various system stored procedures after restoring a copy of the database on the remote domain in standby mode.
We now have an issue where users are unable to access the remote secondary database without having sysadmin privileges. Clearly we want to avoid this!
We want to be able to use Windows Authentication mode on the server of the secondary database. But since the two domains differ, is it possible to even achieve this?
How can we set up read-only access for users on the secondary database without giving them sysadmin privileges?
- When I disable "allow remote connections to this server" from server properties>connection page, I can still remotely connect to the server from SSMS...so what is the impact of enable/disabling it?
- what is the impact of changing the remote query timeout (on the same page) from default value?

My professor somehow presumed I knew db's and gave me long listof things to do with that particular database, first thing being thatparticular conversion. Truth is that I don't know a first thing aboutdb's, let alone using mysql... I am upgrading to a new web plan that supports asp and i noticed that godaddy supports all of the above databases. I was curious if there are any advantages to using one db over the others as far as web is concerned?
What i am looking to do is handle guestbook, logins for registered users which would control access to certain downloads and possibly pages as well. And it was also advised that i look into using a database to store and display dynamic information in my master page to only show the updated information instead of a complete new page each time. This would save on having to manage so many pages.
So i would really appreciate any advice on the databases as i will be making my decision to go with a specific web host based on this. I would also appreciate any advice on a good web host for asp and database support.

I am trying to recreate a MySQL database on a new domain. The original database was exported into about 40 .SQL text files. I am importing these .SQL text files into a new database using phpmyadmin. When I attempt to import the first of these files, I get a "fatal error". It says the upload time has exceeded the 300 second limit. How do I set up the server so there is no upload time limit? Or how would you approach a solution to this problem? There are about 40 of these text files and each file varies in size between 5 and 15mb. Is it possible to split individual files in half or 3 parts and import that way? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
Hi, I have been using Microsoft Access for a couple of years and we have just switched to SQL Server. However, I'm having problems querying the Mysql databases our company has in place. I have managed to establish connections in the Visual Studio but can't seem to link tables from two different databases like I could in Access. Is this possible? I have no admin rights to these servers.The ISP gave me a VPN connection and password to manager my database.If i run the application from my home computer WITH the VPN connected the application works fine.However if i disconnect the VPN or try to run the application from the remote server i get this error:SQL Server does not exist or access deniedI have researched this problem extensively and CANNOT find a solution. I've installed MyODBC-3.51.06 and succsesfully created 2 odbc sources to the MySQL database with the ODBC data source administrator. One is a User DSN, the other a system DSN (Q1: what's the difference?) The test in that applet perfoms positively.
Running a dataimport of the tables using the import data option in enterprise manager does work as well.
Now for the part that gives me trouble. I would like to create a linked server using enterprise manager of SQL server 2000 (SQL 8.00.194) but I'm totaly stuck there. So Q2: how to get this set up?
I haven't used SSRS much but I need to connect a database in MYSQL for SSRS. I right click on Datasource and do add new datasource but the only option I see is SqlNative client and Oracle client. How do I go about connecting to my database in MYSQL
Working on trying to support mutliple backend db's against a custom VB6 app. Right now the db is SqlExpress. It's relatively uncomplicated and I just want to move table structures and data over. Using the MySql Migration tool, I am able to authenticate as SA to a server-based instance of SqlExpress, however, only the MS-supplied databases appear as available databases; my databases don't appear. Can't seem to authenticate at all to any local instance of the database, either. Anyone done any successful migrations to MySql through their migration tool?

A third party development company is creating a third party application for us in PHP and uses a MYSQL database. The app is an extension of our website which is developed in .NET and uses a MSSQL 2005 database. There are some cases where the two databases require connectivity since a few fields need to relate. We are having issues connecting the two databases on the server and after reading some forums have identified it to be a configuration issue.
I was wondering if anyone could be of any help in solving this issue, or lead us in the right direction (i.e. where to begin, forums, etc.). Here is a description and some questions from our developer:

We are trying to get a PHP application (.php pages running on the webserver which is the same physical machine as the MS SQL server) to connect to the database (MS SQL server). In order to facilitate this, php.ini was configured in the following manner:
mssql.secure_connection = ON
extension=php_mssql.dll
We ensured that IIS/Windows was setup properly too:
System32 and php both contain ntwdblib.dll ver 2000.80.194.0
enable pipe name protocol [Default was disable]
enable TCP/IP IP1 [Default was disable]
MS SQL Server is set to Windows AND SQL server authentication (Mixed mode).
When the PHP application attempts to connect to the database by using:
mssql_connect('localhost', '<userid>', '<password>')
produces this error message:
Login failed for user 'MAILIUSR_<computername>'. (severity 14)
Why doe this occur? Why is this IUSR userid being used? the userid we sent in with PHP was a sql userid that we know works (we use it with .NET, and to connect to the database remotely). Also, why is it using the MAIL domain? In anycase, shouldn't this IUSR userid work? it's a valid windows account, and mixed mode authentication is allowed.
