May 3, 2008I have 2 instances of SQL-Server 2000 running on my computer.
I connected to them through SQLServer enterprice Manager.
Now I want to connect to a Database that is stored on my WebHosting-Site [on INTERNET]
The Server-IP address is 65.22.42.57.etc..........
WHILE I can connect to That Database from Visual-Studio server-Explorer..........I cannot connect to that server from SQLServer-EnterpriceManager.
It says 'You need to use SQLServer 2005 tool'.
But there is no Connect-word to create a connection in 'SQLServer 2005'-Manager.'
HELP I need to connect , what shall I do ?

Apr 23, 2006I have a medical records system, SoapWare v4.90, that uses MSDE (SQL2000) databases. Due to the 2gb limitation, I am trying to migrate over to SQL 2005 (Standard or Express) which I have heard works fine. The SoapWare has a datamanager that allows me to log in to the MSDE instance, detach the SoapWare databases from msde (as well as do backups, etc) which I can confirm are detached.
Then I log back into a SQL2005 database instance using the datamanager and try to attach the database. This is what their pictured instructions demonstrate. However, I get the following error:
Database 'sw_charts' cannot be upgraded because it is read-only or has read-only files. Make the database or files writeable, and rerun recovery.
Of course, some of the entries will be read only, since doctors have to sign off the charts and are not allowed to subsequently change them. But I should still be able to switch over to sql 2005?!?!?!?
Or... is there a way to attach the databases to SQLExpress manually?
Help pls?

Now I want to publish this db and the web pages to my hoster's server so as to access the db from internet.
The connection string currently is in the web config as below:<add name="NORTHWNDConnectionString" connectionString="Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|NORTHWND.MDF;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" /> The database is currently located in the App_Data folder.

I'm writing a class library dll that would pull data from a central db to offsite comps, manipulated then updated it back to the central db, much like systems salemen would use. Please keep in mind that i'm talk about LARGE amount of data. I want downloaded data to be manipulated on the client computer(without direction connection to db server) with EXCEL or something of the likes then upload changes back to the central DB.
Is there anything in SQL Integration Services that would help me? please keep in mind that data are distributed to computers over the internet, not on the same LAN. Please be as specific as possible

Then I created a database with MSSQLmanager provided by the WebHosting.
I created a Table and put some data in it.
When I try to access the DataBase an Error says: "Connection cannot be opened. On default settings you cannot access a Database Remotely."
What shall I do to configure my Database.
basically I don't know where to go to change configuration of my Database.
In my intranet I would use SQLServerSuraceArea.
But on Internet I do not know.

Updating Site/Database Once It Is Already In Use
Mar 28, 2007I am wondering how some of you update your database once it is already been in use. So take for example you have a few tables and users can enter data into the site. Now suppose you either add tables to the db or you add fields to an existing table. I am using sql express 2005 and just want to copy the db over with the copy website but it would overwrite any data users entered.Is there any easy solutions or suggestions for this.Thanks

I transferred my web site files to a new computer.
I created a empty SQL database called "SiteData.mdf", I stopped the SQL server and then I replaced this database with a previous one with the same name and already populated with data.
I used this maneuver in order to avoid having to insert all data again.
The web site works fine when running inside Visual Studio, however when I try to run it in its published format it gives this error message:
Server Error in '/MA' Application.
Cannot open database "SiteData" requested by the login. The login failed.Login failed for user 'CENTAURUSASPNET'.
I also observed that inside the SQL Server Management Studio, in the database properties, it shows "ETHERASPNET" as User or Roles ( however "ETHERASPNET" was created using the old computer's name [ or should I say domain ? ]) but the permissions list correctly displays the new name "CENTAURUSASPNET".
I think that I, probably, should create a new user using the name "CENTAURUSASPNET" because it would use the name of the new computer ( or domain ) and then I should delete the old user name. Actually I tried to do that but I get the message "An object named ‘CENTAURUSASPNET' cannot be found".
So,
1) What should I do to get the database being connected with the published web site ( note: I am publishing it in my own computer for awhile ) ?
2) How do I create the new user name "CENTAURUSASPNET" ?
3) I also would like to know why the name of the database in the Server Explorer panel of VS appears as "centaurus.SiteData.dbo" -while- inside the Object Explorer panel of the SQL Server Management Studio it appears simply as "SiteData" ?

Sep 2, 2007Greetings, I have just arrived back into the country (NZ) and back into ASP.NET.
I am having trouble with the following:An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file (file location).../Database.mdf failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share.
It has only begun since i decided i wanted to use IIS, I realise VWD comes with its own localhost, but since it is only temporary, i wanted a permanent shortcut on my desktop to link to my intranet page.
Anyone have any ideas why i am getting the above error? have searched many places on the internet and not getting any closer.

On my laptop everything works properly, but when I tried moving it to GoDaddy (http://currahee3-506.org/px/default.aspx). In the code, each query to the SQL server is done using stored procedures.
When you first go the page, a drop down is presented. When you select "Shirt" from the category drop down. A second drop down menu is then displayed and will let you select what type of shirt you are interested in purchasing. Select Polo Shirt Without Pocket. Upon doing so, I receive an error message:

Keep in mind the Stored Procedure works in my testing environment, but not on GoDaddy. I moved the selected statement into a view on the GoDaddy SQL server, and the view worked perfectly. The tables do exist on the GoDaddy SQL Server.

I have determined that there are 3 ways to do this, and Iwanted to know which is the best of the 3.1 Install From Script.In this method I create the database and its objects in scripts thatare run via osql utility on the SQL server machine. For loading anyinitial data that I need in the database I also run bcp commands.2 Install from a backupIn this method I created an empty database on the SQL server, and thenrestore over it the database from a backup of the database that I needto deploy. Then I add or re-attach the users for the database. Mar 26, 2007I have been working with Visual Studio 2005 and the Personal Web Site Starter Kit. All is well and working. My problem is that after the database is updated (as in uploading photos and album creation) and the original web site is edited and republished, the web site database is overwritten and all the work is lost. What is the proceedure to either copy the web database to the development site on my computer so updates will not be lost, or a method of publishing that will not loose the up to date content on the web server? I would much prefer to be able to copy the database to my development computer as adding tables to the database is something that needs to be done. Any help on this would be appreciated.

Dec 16, 2007I've created a database inside my ASP.net project, the database is in the App_Data folder as exepcted.I can't run the aspnet_regsql until I have attached it using SQL Server Management Studio, but when I try to attach the database it doesn't let me navigate through my folders properly. The database is in C:UsersWardieDocumentsFirstProjectApp_Data but SQL SMS only lets me navigate to the folder C:UsersWardie and no further for some reason, meaning I can't attach the database and can't use the aspnet_regsql service to create the membership tables.Does anyone know how to fix this?
