How Can I Check And Create The Variable File Name?
May 15, 2008
Hi,
Everyday they are sending to our servers a file named like CC_20080501 . it is CC_YYYYMMDD
So I have to check it and move into the database table.
I am thinking to create standard database connection and name like CC_std
And When the file arrives to create something like CC_std (actually copying my daily file CC_YYYYMMDD to CC_std ?
BUT how can I do it?
any other way to do it?
thanks,
John

My Execute SQL Task will store the file name into a variable(mFile) of type string datatype.
Now I wanted a script task (C# code) to create a filename from the variable (mFile) value.
Since it is a common issue I tried a lot in the internet but none of the queries worked.

I created a cursor that moves through a table to retrieve a user's name.When I open this cursor, I create a variable to store the fetched name to use within the BEGIN/END statements to create a login, user, and role.
I'm getting an 'incorrect syntax' error at the variable. For example ..
CREATE LOGIN @NAME WITH PASSWORD 'password'
I've done a bit of research online and found that you cannot use variables to create logins and the like. One person suggested a stored procedure or dynamic SQL, whereas another pointed out that you shouldn't use a stored procedure and dynamic SQL is best.

hi. i'm building a news section for some friends of mine. i list all the news items on the main page in a gridview. i've made a custom edit linkbutton that sends the user to an edit page, passing the news id as a quarystring variable. on the edit page i first check if the querystring variable contains an id at all. if not, i redirect the user to the main page. if an id is passed with the querystring, i fetch the matching news item from the database and place it in a formview control for editing.so far, so good. but what if someone types a random id in the querystring? then the formview won't show up and i'd look like a fool. :) therefore, i need some kind of check to see if the id exists in the database. if not redirect the user back to the main page... so i started thinking: i could check the databsae in a page_load procedure. if all is well, then display the news item. since the formview is automatically filled with the correct data, does that mean that i call the database two times? i mean, one for checking if the news item exists, and one for filling the formview. logically, this would be a waste of resources.help is appreciated.

I have created dynamic sql to declare variables based on columns from the table and i set values to those variable now here is the issue . i want to check the variable values how do i do that dynamically
drop table test
create table test
(
id varchar(10) not null,
col1 varchar(10) ,
col2 varchar(10)
[Code] .....
Now my next step is verify if the variable is blank or not how do i do that ?
How do i verify all of the columns one after the other .
I am after the statement like this dynamically
-- IF NOT (@col1 = '') THEN set @SQL = @SQL + '[col1] = ' + @col1 + ' '
--IF NOT (@col2 = '') THEN set @SQL = @SQL + '[col2] = ' + @col2 + ' '
I need to check if the columns are blank or not dynamically as i do not want to hard code the column names there.

I'm trying to figure out the best way to write a script to deploy environment variables to different servers. To create the variable I'm currently using catalog. create_environment_variable. I want to wrap that in an if not exist statement.I had thought about just blowing away all the variables and recreating them but I thought that wouldn't go over well in prod. I wasn't sure if by deleting the variable, references to the variable would be lost.

Also, same question when we're writing to a Flat File (or Flat File Destination).

I need to create a check constraint for an email column/field, where the field must contain an "@" symbol. Does sql (oracle or SQL in general) let you do this.
1. Tried myself:
ALTER TABLE Q_Customer
ADD CONSTRAINT Q_chk_Cus_email CHECK (Cus_email LIKE '%@%');
...but
ORA-02293: cannot validate (C3267304.Q_CHK_CUS_EMAIL) - check constraint violated
2. Tried from a forum: alter table Q_CUSTOMER
add constraint Q_Chk_cus_email check (Cus_email like '%_@__%.__%')
...but
ORA-02293: cannot validate (C3267304.Q_CHK_CUS_EMAIL) - check constraint violated

I need to set up create a package so that I could check the date of the files posted in a folder, e.g. H:source. If there is no file created later than one day exists, then continue to check again one hour later. If files do exists, then copy then to c:dest and then upzip the files. Once this is done, sent an notification email to user@mydomain.com.

I want to create a check constraint on a table but the constraint values depend upon another table column as well, now one possible way is to create a function to check the column value. But I don’t want to use the function.

I have never used triggers before and I have tried to solve one problem. If I have the column "currency" in a table and want to make sure that the entered value i valid in relation to another table that contains valid currency formats, I did it like this:
---------------------------------
CREATE TRIGGER [trigger_checkCurrency] ON [dbo].[Client]
FOR INSERT, UPDATE
AS
declare @currency as char(50)
declare @country as char(50)
declare cur cursor for SELECT currency, country
FROMinserted
OPEN cur
fetch cur into @currency, @country
WHILE @@FETCH_STATUS = 0
BEGIN
if not exists(select * from listinfoid where listname = 'currency' and listid = @currency)
begin
set @currency = (cast(@currency as varchar (3)) + ' is not a valid currency')
CLOSE cur
DEALLOCATE cur
RAISERROR (@currency,16,-1) with log
return
end
if not exists(select * from listinfoid where listname = 'country' and listid = @country)
begin
set @country = (cast(@country as varchar (3)) + ' is not a valid contry')
CLOSE cur
DEALLOCATE cur
RAISERROR (@country,16,-1) with log
return
end
else
fetch cur into @currency, @country
END
CLOSE cur
DEALLOCATE cur
update Client set currency = UPPER(currency), country = UPPER(country)
---------------------------------
I use a cursor to handle multiple rows in an update query.
(SQL2000-server)
Is there an easier och better way to do this?
I´m a bit unsure of this code.
Thanx!
/Erik

Hi
This should be incredibly simple and easy, but I can't find any examples of how to do this.
I just want to make a File System Task move a file, and have the destination be filename + date and time. For example \serversharefilename02072007.txt
What syntax do I use in a variable to make this work?

Hi,
I'm attempting to use a variable to define the file name in my flat file connection (for error files in my SSIS package).
I have it defined as follows:
@[User::ValidRootFolder]ConditionConditionSourceError.csv
However it throws an error 'the filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect'.
If I put the value of the variable in explicitly it works, so I know my variable name is correct - am I just not calling the variable properly?
Thanks

I have a dts set up to take info from our as/400 and load it onto into SQL 7.0 server. I would like to within my select that I'm using to load up the data calulate a variable or create a temp table with one row that has the current fiscal year. This fiscal year would then be used in my select to determine what data to bring in. But it doesn't seem like I can use a table on the server within my select statement on the destination portion of my dts.
This is what I would like to accomplish
select *
from iptsfil.ipwkhst ,swoolib.DSSCNTL
where
KYR#=select max(fiscyear) from fiscalyear(this is my temp table that I have already created)
AND KWK# = STRNUM
AND KCT#=1
AND TBLNME = 'WEEKHST'
the dts doesn't seem to like me using both file from the server and the 400 at the same time. Is there a way to do what I'm trying to accomplish

Is it possible to check query execution plan of a store procedure from create script (before creating it)?
Basically the developers want to know how a newly developed procedure will perform in production environment. Now, I don't want to create it in production for just checking the execution plan. However they've provided SQL script for the procedure. Now wondering is there any way to look at the execution plan for this procedure from the script provided?

I am passing a variable to a stored procedure using
db.ExecuteNonQuery("dbo.CreateTable", @symbol); < C# CODE >
the variable shows up fine but the stored procedure does not create the table...
I have tried everything... here are two versions of code that do not work...
using Dynamic Sql....
CREATE PROCEDURE dbo.CreateTable
@symbol nvarchar(10)
AS
DECLARE @Sql varchar
SELECT @SQL = 'Create Table [dbo].['+ @symbol +'](Symbol float'
SELECT @SQL = @SQL + '
, [Date] datetime
, [Open] float
, High float
, [Low] float
, [Close] float
, Volume integer)'
EXEC (@SQL)
this does nothing
And this one...(the longer version)
CREATE PROCEDURE dbo.CreateTable
(
@Symbol as varchar (10)
)
AS
DECLARE @SQL varchar(2000)
SET @SQL = "if exists (select * from dbo.sysobjects where id = object_id(N'[dbo].[@Symbol]') and OBJECTPROPERTY(id, N'IsUserTable') = 1)
drop table [dbo].[@Symbol]
CREATE TABLE [dbo].[" + @Symbol + "] (
[Ticker] [varchar](10) Null,
[Date] [date] Null,
[Open] [float] NULL ,
[High] [float] NULL ,
[Low] [float] NOT NULL ,
[Close] [float] NULL ,
[Volume] [float] NULL ,
) ON [PRIMARY]"
EXEC(@SQL)
GIVES ME A 'The identifier that starts with... is too long, maximum length is 128'

I just want to store the value of a parameter in a global variable that all my reports in the same project can use.
My goal is to create a dynamic query. For example:
Company Name: Widgets inc.
Divisions: Sales, Service, Tech, Accounting
I have a matrix and when I click on the more information button it goes to another report. I want the next report to know what division is currently selected in the dropdown parameter. So, being a VB programmer, I thought I could store parameter1.division.value into a global variable and update the variable whenever the parameter changes.
This way, on the next report, my query's where statement is the global variable.
@GlobalVariable = parameter1.division.value
Select name, address, phone FROM Employee WHERE division = @GlobalVariable
I am using Visual Studio to design this project although I would prefer to use VB or ASP. But this is my only stumbling block right now. Everything else is complete.
Please let me know if anyone can help.
Thanks.
John

This should be simple, but...
I want to create a table in a stored proc using a variable name instead of something hard coded. I was hoping to do something like....
CREATE PROCEDURE foo
-- Add the parameters for the stored procedure here
@TableName char = null
AS
BEGIN
SET NOCOUNT ON;
CREATE TABLE @TableName (
[HRMONTH] [int] NULL,
[HRYEAR] [int] NULL
) ON [PRIMARY]
But no combination of names '@'s, etc, allows me to use a variable name that I passed into the procedure. What am I missing? I will either receive a syntax error or the procedure will create a table called TableName rather than whatever TableName really stands for...
Thanks,
Tom

Hi All,
1)My source files[.txt] come from an FTP server.I need to find a way to include within my SSIS package,a task that would watch a certain folder of the FTP Server and send a mail notification as soon as the file arrives.Tried using filewatcher task http://www.sqlis.com/23.aspx, but the task stays "yellow" for a long time while package is being excuted.I dont know if this is what I need to use.Are they any other task/ways?
Another Problem I'm facing is;
2)If the source file coming in the FTP Server is zipped.How do I unzip the file and move it back to the FTP Server folder for the task in 1) to watch on it .Any ideas ?
