I'm trying to set enable SQL cache invalidation on a webpage, specifically on a a datasource that fills a GridView.
The website http://beta.asp.net/QUICKSTART/aspnet/doc/caching/SQLInvalidation.aspx makes it sound so very simple, and I have attempted to do all that it says, yet something just isn't right. The site says that the following needs to be done.
Queries must explicitly include column names in the SELECT statement. Using "SELECT *" results in a query that will not be registered with Sql Server 2005 query notifications.
Table names in queries must include the ownername. For example, if you issue a query against the authors table in the pubs database, the query must reference the table as "dbo.authors".
The security identity running the query must have rights to register queries for notification in Sql Server 2005. This right can be granted with the following T-SQL command: GRANT SUBSCRIBE QUERY NOTIFICATIONS TO username.
The security identity running the query must also have rights to send query notifications from Sql Server 2005. This right can be granted with the following T-SQL command: GRANT SEND ON SERVICE::SqlQueryNotificationService TO username.
I've done items 1,2 & 3, but when I attempt to do item 4 I get the following result in TSql:
Msg 15151, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
Cannot find the service 'SqlQueryNotificationService', because it does not exist or you do not have permission.
My login account has sysadmin priviledges, so I'm guessing the latter part of the error doesn't apply to me. But what do I have to do to get SqlQueryNoticationService to exist?

If I simply want a db table to have caching enabled and just care about the application getting that data from the cache instead of physically getting it from the table (no need for me to have a delegate for notification), there is no need for me to create a sqldependency object within my middle tier method associated with my command, correct? I have the sql cache enabled for a particular db table and have the following in my Application_Start event of the global.asox file (SqlDependency.Start “connectionstring�) Once I change something in the table, the cache is invalidated. That’s all I need, correct?

I was wondering if SQL Cache Dependency would be in fact invalidated if:
1. it was created based on a procedure type command.
2. if the select statement retrieves the data from multiple database tables
Any help would be more appreciated. I am stuck with the fact that none of the data bases on sql dependency is invalidated. I spent literally hours to understand what i am doing incorrectly.

Hi I am using SQL Server cache invalidation with caching in my application.
I have a master page and several other pages that are referring the master page.
I have specified :
<%@ OutputCache Duration="60" VaryByParam="*" SqlDependency="CommandNotification" %> on one of my content page.and I have included the
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlDependency.Start(connectionstring) in my Application_Start.My web.config contains this section as well -

I</caching> have also run the aspnet_regsql utility to enable sqlcache dependency for the database.
But my page is not taking the values from cache when the page is refreshed.

Hello,
Am wondering if someone can give me a pointer on where to start with a query i have.
What i am trying to do is provide some sort of information to a user that data from a database has been changed. I know that you can cache a page and have output cache directive invalidate it next time it loads if changed but wondering if its poss to be told its changed without reload ( dont see how but never know) - even if not on that page.
What im kinda thinking is something like the popup that outlook has when a new message arrives in in box. Is that just sending a new query? is there a table last modified function in sql? etc.
This is for a web app in c#.
Any help would be appreaciated.

I am not sure is this is .NET issue or a problem with the SQL Service broker so i hope you can either point me in the right direction or make suggestions to solve this problem.
I am using the SQL Server 2005 service broker to manage my caching in an ASP.NET application. The service broker is started with all require queues and permissions set up for the service account that connects to SQL Server. The application + broker service works fine in that if a table row change is made to a registered query the cache will invalidate in the web application.
The problem i am getting is errors appear in the application event log as well as the SQL logs and i am not sure what it means or why it is throwing an error even though the application works as it was designed.
Below are a couple of errors that are being logged
The query notification dialog on conversation handle '{ADC34B70-BD09-DC11-AFEA-0016E6539AEB}.' closed due to the following error: '<?xml version="1.0"?><Error xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/SQL/ServiceBroker/Error"><Code>-8470</Code><Description>Remote service has been dropped.</Description></Error>'.
The query notification dialog on conversation handle '{E8642B09-BB09-DC11-AFEA-0016E6539AEB}.' closed due to the following error: '<?xml version="1.0"?><Error xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/SQL/ServiceBroker/Error"><Code>-8490</Code><Description>Cannot find the remote service 'SqlQueryNotificationService-f19bedef-a9f9-46e1-8f37-1b573614bd26' because it does not exist.</Description></Error>'.
Service Broker needs to access the master key in the database 'test'. Error code:25. The master key has to exist and the service master key encryption is required.

I'm having a strange problem with this but I know (and admit) that the problem is on my PC and nowhere else. My firewall was causing a problem because I was unable to PING the database server, switching this off gets a successful PING immediately. The most useful utility to date is running netstat -an in the command window. This illustrates all the connections that are live and ports that are being listed to. I can establish a connection both by running

Both these utilities show as establishing a connection in netstat so I am able to connect the database server every time, this worked throughout yesterday and has continued this morning.
The problem is when I attempt to use SQL Server Management Studio. When I attempt to connect to tcp:sql5.hostinguk.net, 1433 nothing shows in netstat at all. There is an option to encrypt the connection in the connection properties tab in management studio, when I enable this I do get an entry in netstat -an, see below:

Amost as if it's trying the different ports but you get this time_wait thing. The error message is more meaningful and hopefull because I get:
A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the pre-login handshake. (provider: SSL Provider, error: 0 - The certificate chain was issued by an authority that is not trusted.) (.Net SqlClient Data Provider)
I would expect this as the DNS has not been advised to encrypt the conection.
This is much better than the : Login failed for user 'COX10289'. (.Net SqlClient Data Provider) that I get, irrespective of whether I enter a password or not.
This is on a XP machine trying to connect to the remote webhosting company via the internet.
I can ping the server
I have enabled shared memory and tcp/ip in protocols, named pipes and via are disabled
I do not have any aliases set up
No I do not force encryption
I wonder if you have any further suggestions to this problem?

I have been testing SQLDependency and I have a two questions;
1) When using a stored procedure to run the dependency query, using a "clean" procedure (containing nothing but a select statement), works fine. Adding try..catch (which is a part of our coding standards), results in the subscription firing immediately because of an invalid query. Is this by design? If so, how can I implement error handling.
2) How does SQLDependency handle SQL Server restarts?
I see two options:
a) The subscription is fired listing a server restart message in the related service broker queue, but as far as I can tell, SQLDependency has no way of handling these messages given the connection has been broken. (Establishing a new connection and dependency won€™t read the said messages).
b) The SQLDependency listener on the client raises an error for the connection being terminated. Can I relay on this event to recreate a connection and dependency?

sys.dm_os_memory_cache_counters and sql serverlan Cache - Cache Pages
For the first one I am using

where type = 'CACHESTORE_SQLCP' or type = 'CACHESTORE_OBJCP'
a slight change from a query in

For the second just perfmon.
The first one gives me a count of about 670,000 pages only for the object and query cache and the second one gives me a total of about 100,000 pages for five type of caches including object and query.
If I am using the query from http://blogs.msdn.com/sqlprogrammability/ to determin the plan cache size
select (sum(single_pages_kb) + sum(multi_pages_kb) ) * 8 / (1024.0 * 1024.0) as plan_cache_in_GB
from sys.dm_os_memory_cache_counters
where type = 'CACHESTORE_SQLCP' or type = 'CACHESTORE_OBJCP'
it gives me about 5 GB when in fact my SQL Server it can access only max 2GB with Total and Target Server Memory at about 1.5 GB.
Does anyone have any idea what is going on?

I have created a linked server on which following query works fine.

but the same statement executed with openquery

The OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "remote" supplied inconsistent metadata for a column. The column "dummyObjectID" (compile-time ordinal 1) of object "select top 10 * from dummyobjects" was reported to have a "Incomplete schema-error logic." of 0 at compile time and 0 at run time.

Is there any built-in way of kicking off a job on SQL Server 2005 Agent whenever a package/job completes in Oracle?
Are there any (Triggers? Msft queue? Event Notification?) mechanisms to automate running a job on the SQL side?
Any article or knowledge articles would be appreciated also.
If not are there any built-in stardardized polling techniques? Or are there any timers in SSIS?
That way I can delay executing a child package until a certain record has been inserted into a control table in Oracle.
I don't want to write an inefficient for loop that blocks all other processing on the server and iterates once every second.

I've got a popular problem so i get a message that server acces denied! ..
But that what is different in my error.... When i use same setting same database and connection string (on MSDE server) there is no problem...
On SQL server i have got windwos authentication but i added all accounts as ASPNET and SA.... and when i try to connect by

I just installed sql server 2005 and trying to pick it up before I start a new job as a developer using sql server 2005. The problem is that I have three instances installed, the one that works was installed prior to installing sql server 2005 when I installed System Architect a CASE tool which utilizes sql server for its encyclopedias.
My initial installed I used the default settings with the default instance and that does not work. I later ran set up again and installed another instance and that does not work. For some apparent reason the POKIN10SQL instance is over riding everything rendering every other instance non-functional.
When I try to connect to the one of the other instances, the error message is
"An error has occured while establishing a connection to the server. When connection to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL does not allow remote connections. (Provider Network Interface, error: 26 - Error locating Server/Instance Specified) (Microsoft SQL Server)"
I don't think the remote connection is the problem as I went into the properties settings and checked the connection settings and allow remote connections is checked.
In terms of locating the instance, I installed SQL Server as specified in the handbook ... with the default instance and then a named instance.
Something seems to be wrong with the POKIN10SQL instance which was installed with System Architect, I need System Architect so I need a work around rather then an uninstall.

Most of my packages that I've created in BIDS will NOT run in SQL Server 2005. The simplest one that I have fails during a script task that calls external managed code. I've done all the steps outlined in "Referencing Other Assemblies...", but I'm still getting "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." Here's a sample of a script that's having a problem. The line in green is the one that seems to be cause of the error. This is extremely frustrating. This code will even run from a command line console without error. Why is it so difficult to deploy one of these projects with managed code?

Hi all,I'm having a big problem here. I can't seem to connect to a database of MSSQL Server 2005... Here is what I've did:1. Under the Server Explorer>Data Connections. Right click and choose "Add Connection..."2. Data Source was "Microsoft SQL Server Database File". Click OK.3. I browse to the database in the MSSQL.2/MSSQL/Data folder.4. When installing SQL Server 2005 Express and using an .ini file that looks like this,

sometimes the sa password is set correctly, while other times it is not. There does not appear to be any particular environment or system setting when it fails vs. when it works.
We are coming up on a release date and this is causing us a serious problem. Can anyone help?

Is there a way to drop clean buffers at the database level instead of the server/instance level like the undocumented €śDBCC FLUSHPROCINDB (@dbid)€??
Is there a workaround for €śdbo€? to be able to flush procedure and data cache without being elevated to €śsysadmin€? server role?
PS: I am aware of the sp_recompile option that can be used to invalidate cached execution plans.

I'm kinda embarrased, it's been quite awhile since I've played with SQL or Access but here's my brain fart. I need to open an access DB by the name of eHomes. Inside there are two tables AD_IMAGE & PROPERTY. Property is the main table and stores most of the info. It has a field in it called AD_ID and others except for the image file name. The AD_IMAGE table just keeps the image file name and has 3 fields: ID - AD_ID - & Image1. The problem is when the ad is deleted from the property table the AD_IMAGE table record referring to the PROPERTY.AD_ID doen't get deleted. So, I just want the AD_IMAGE table cleaned up to match what's active in the PROPERTY table using the common AD_ID fields in both tables.

Hi,I have over 200 stored procedures and they have dependencies on each other (not necessarily a cyclic dependency).Is there a way in SQL Server 2005 that I can disable a dependency check while I am executing a script that creates those stored procedures, and then re-enable it after?Thanks.

Hi Friends,
I am Ravi, I need a help.
My case is like.. i need to upload data from csv file into sql server 2005 data table.
but before that I need to check integrity of data
for example:
let us say csv data is like
ISD CODE,STATE,NAME,QUALIFICATION
91,AP,KIRAN,MCA
01,MC,MIKE,MS
here i have to check that, wether there is an entry in ISD codes table for 91 and 01 (india and us)
similarly AP , MC (Andhra Pradesh and MISSICippi)
please suggest me a nice approach, no of records in ISD codes and States will 350-450 records.

I need to set some users to see data filtered by a specific field and value...
Example: User XPTO only sees data about vendor code = '123'

Hi..
I have a web application(ASP.NET 2.0 + C#). I have sql server 2000 as well as sql server 2005.
Several queries in my application work well with the sql server 2005, and the same query fails in the sql server 2000.
How to check if the database is connected to sql server 2000 or sql server 2005 and then call the queries accordingly through the c# code?
