I am having a problem with connecting to SQL Server 2005 database from Office Business Scorecard Manager 2005 (the connection string i am using is: provider=SQLOLEDB;Data source=server_name; Initial catalog=database_name). But the connection failed. Would please any experts here shed me any light on what is the problem and how to fix it then? As there is no any forum for Office Business Scrorecard manager 2005. Therefore I post my thread here as it is related to the connection to SQL Server 2005 database engine, thought here is the best place for this question.

I have a question about opening files in the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Management Studio.
In the old Query Analyzer from SQL 2000 I can open SQL Files via drag & drop (from explorer to QA) or open it with a double click in the explorer. Then the Files opened, if I had actual a connection to a server / database (QA is stared with one file and has a connection to Server/Datebase), with this connection.
Now in Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Management Studio I'll be asked everytime for Server and have to get the database from the database list - it does not connect automaticly to server/database, that is actual connected (I have opened a file with the connection and a connected database in the object explorer).
Someone do not have this problem - but we found no option to set it up.
Any ideas?

Cannot Install Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition X86
Mar 10, 2006I recently (yesterday) installed a fresh copy of Windows XP with Service Pack 2 applied.
I proceeded with Visual Studio 2005 Express Editions installation straight away.
But I cannot install Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition x86.
I choose to install Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition x86 component along with every component of visual studio but it simply would not install.
In the end, after the installation of each complete is complete, I simply get an error message saying that Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition x86 failed to install.
What is the problem?

I have developed a database in MS SQL Server 2005 Express, to which I would require only bulkadmin server role from an external java application, because I only need to update rows, insert values or use select queries in the database.
The problem is that, using either the Microsoft JDBC Driver 1.1 or the Java JDBC ODBC Driver and the Windows XP Data Base (ODBC) configurations, I need a user with sysadmin server role inside Sql Server, otherwise JDBC won't connect to the database using the selected user. Even if I leave the sql login with setupadmin or any server role lower than sysadmin, the connection is refused.
Is there no way to connect using JDBC to MS Sql Server 2005 other than granting the connected user sysadmin rights? My code looks as follows:

I am trying to get SQL Express 2005 installed, I have tried this on two PC's within the Domain. Both get the same error. I am the Admin, MCSE since 1999, but I DO NOT know much about SQL. Have search Google for two days, renamed DLL's, installed localy, copied off the CD, update .net, windows updates.... The PC will load SQL 2005 (full version) and 2000, but the app doesnt seem to want anything but the Express version... any ideas would help...

Jul 17, 2007I have Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Toolkit installed but there is something from with the installation since every time that I try and create a Report Server Project It gives me error
Could not load file or assembly "Microsoft.ReportingServices.Designer, Version 9.0.242.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89845dcd8080cc91' or one of its dependencies. The system cannopt find the file spesified.
How can I reinstall it or repair the installation so it will work. I have uninstalled every SQL2000 component in Add Remove Programs and reinstalled them. The problem is however that I cannot see an entry for "Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Toolkit" in the Add Remove programs in Windows XP Profesional.
Can someone please help me. Maybe tell me where the uninstall file is located on disk??

Feb 11, 2008When updating automaticallly, this update always fail, I have put the configuration manager /server browser : the only one that was disabled, on manual (I have not the automatic option for this one) but nothing works, what can I do ? Sep 28, 2006Everything was working fine. I have been able to connect using windows authentication. Then, I went into the ODBC manager to add a data source and it failed to connect so I went back into the Server management studio to modify users. After doing this I now get an error when I try to conenct the management studio to the SQL server.
I wasn't modifying the login for my windows account that I normally use, I was modifying a different one, however I now get the message "An error has occured while establishing a connection to the SQL server. This kind of problem can ocure because the default behavior of the server does not support all connection methods" blah blah.
Does anyone know how I can attach to the server? Or, do I need to somehow remove the server and create a new one? How would I do that?

Mar 17, 2008I have a query that executes just fine except that it won't recognize varchar(255) ( or any other value within the () ) and if I leave it off like this: varchar, then it executes but it leaves that value as 1 and that is just not very useful for my purposes. This also happens with anything else that requires () to add length such as char(), or nvarchar(), etc... Any ideas?

Working In VB.Net 2005 Inserting NULL Into A Field In Microsoft SQL Server 2005
Feb 2, 2007I am update/inserting records threw a web form in vb.net. I need to insert 'NULL' into my microsoft sql server database. I am not talking about the below line of code where website is the name of my paramater. If i do that it will just place a blank into that field in the database. If i dont enter anything into that textbox I want it to to say NULL in that field. So if I go into the actual table in the SQL Server Management Studio and look at the website field of the recored I just added or updated and did not type anything into the web site textbox it needs to say NULL. I also tried the second line of code but that places a single quote in front and behind NULL. So the field will have the value 'NULL'.

The reason why I need the NULL there is because I bind the website filed to a hyperlink template in a gridview. The actual text of the hyperlink is bound to PAYER which is a name of a insurance payer but the navigateto is bound to the website field. If i do not enter any data into the website field and it stays as NULL, then when my gridview is loaded, payers that dont have a website will not be underlined and user wont have the option to click on them since there is no value for the navigateto. But if i use my form to update/add a payer and leave the website textbox blank in puts a blank into that field in my database and when it loads that new row into the gridview the PAYER is underlined and u can click on it but it will just take u to the web site is unavailable page. So is there anyway to actaull have NULL placed into a filed and not just blank space

I have a problem when I try to create a new connection with Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition from Visual Studio 2005 IDE. When I€™m going to choose the data source, the SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition provider doesn€™t appear in the list. I installed the SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition from this page http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=%2085E0C3CE-3FA1-453A-8CE9-AF6CA20946C3&displaylang=en. In the additional information says by installing SQLServerCE31-EN.msi installs the provider (System.Data.SqlServerCe.dll) in the GAC (global assembly cache) and registers the OLEDB provider (sqlceoledb30.dll). So, I don€™t understand why couldn€™t I create a new connection with Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition from Visual Studio 2005 IDE?
