How Can I Find All Table Names Defined In A Database?
Mar 10, 2001
I have a database and I want to retrieve informations about all tables
defined in this database. In other words I need the table list defined in
database. Can you help me?
I am a SSIS novice, and need help to do the following:
Every day a Table is generated by the system of format XR+present Year + present month + present day. My task is pretty simple. I am to devise a SSIS package that will import this table on to a different server.
I have defined the variable as user defined variable. I am also able to specify the variable in OLE db source editor -> Data Access Mode : Table name or view name variable. When I am click the 'Columns' feature, I get the following error
TITLE: Microsoft Visual Studio ------------------------------ Error at Data Flow Task [OLE DB Source [1]]: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR. An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80040E37. Error at Data Flow Task [OLE DB Source [1]]: Opening a rowset for "xr+ convert(char(8),getdate(), 112)" failed. Check that the object exists in the database. ------------------------------ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Exception from HRESULT: 0xC02020E8 (Microsoft.SqlServer.DTSPipelineWrap) ------------------------------ BUTTONS: OK ------------------------------
In short can any one tell me a correct way of using a table name as variable in Data Access Mode : Table name or view name variable ?
One other question: can I make use of a dynamic SQL in Execute SQL Task? If yes, how do I write the query
I need to setup a script to read all the table names in the database above and then query the database to find the list of Stored Procedure using each table.(SQL Server)
Hi all, I need a favour from you... can i do a list to find out the table names used by a stored procedure. remember it's around 700 Stored Procedures. and following a rule <databasename>.dbo.<tablename>
I have a SQL text column from SP_who2 in table #SqlStatement:
like 1row shown  below :
"update Panel  set PanelValue=7286 where PanelFirmwareID=4 and PanelSettingID=9004000"
I want to find what table and column  names are in the text ..
I tried like below .. Â
Select B.Statement from #sp_who2 A  LEFT JOIN #SqlStatement B ON A.spid = B.spid  where B.Statement IN ( SELECT T.name, C.name FROM sys.tables T JOIN sys.columns C ON T.object_id=C.object_id WHERE T.type='U' )Â
Something like this : find the column names and tables name
Hello, I have ran into a problem when i'm getting table names in c#. I have tried the sql command: select name from sysobjects where type='U' order by name So it returns the names without a problem. But when I try to access to some tables using their names (to retrieve the columns) I sometimes get the error "Invalid object name" following by the name of the table. So I realized the if the table was not under dbo user then i would get this error. for example: "select name from ContactCreditCard" gives me error because in database management tool it is shown like this: Sales.ContactCreditCard How can i fix this problem? How to get that prefix of the tables?
In the past, we had table names such as: PurchaseOrders SalesOrders
Now with SQL 2005, you can use schema namespaces, so it could become: Purchasing.Orders Sales.Orders
So essentially you can use exactly the SAME table names, in different schemas.
So... would you recommend to change to the last model, or just stay with the old way? What is best practice?
One of the reasons why I ask this question is that I looked at the AdventureWorks sample database included with SQL Server 2005, and Microsoft is using:
I am trying to create a list of all the tables in one database and then list the size of each table. So for example I want to create a table with the table name and table size for one DB
E.g
Table1 1111KB Table2 123300MB Table3 120448KB
etc for all the tables in a particukar DB
I know there is a stored procedure to list the sizes: 'sp_spaceused' but not sure how to script all this together.
Hello! Is it possible to pass a stored procedure a parameter, say @table anduse it as a table in the sql command? Finally i want a proc to copy tables from a database to another database.THERE IS MY CODE:CREATE PROCEDURE [user].[copytable]@dbSRC varchar(100),@dbTRGT varchar(100),@table varchar(100)ASBEGIN TRANSACTION FreeAndCopyTableTRUNCATE TABLE [@dbTRGT].admin.[@table]INSERT INTO [@dbTRGT].admin.[@table]SELECT *FROM [@dbSRC].admin.[@table]COMMIT TRANSACTION FreeAndCopyTableIF @@error <0 GOTO E_Copy_FailE_Copy_Fail:ROLLBACK TRANSACTION FreeAndCopyTableGOthanks in advance, muh
I am designing a package to export staging tables into a flat file. The names of the tables will be: TableAStaging_YYYYMM and TableBStaging_YYYYMM. As you can see the names of the tables will be changing each month.
The flat files will have similar naming: C:MyPathFlatFileTableAStaging__YYYYMM and C:MyPathFlatFileTableAStaging__YYYYMM.I want to run the package as an sql job in two steps, one for each table.I need to dynamically pass the table names and file names (together with the path) to the IS package.
Hi, I have a stored procedure that calls a scalar function. It works fine on my development database, but on my production database, I get this error when trying to execute the procedure: Cannot find either column "dbo" or the user-defined function or aggregate "dbo.MyFunction", or the name is ambiguous. However, I am able to execute the function outside of the procedure like this: select dbo.MyFunction(0, 0) Anyone have idea? I can't figure it out.
I was wondering if anyone has an idea of how we could find the table names and column names of the tables in our Sql server database at runtime/dynamically given our connection string? Please let me know.
To find parameter names In ASP.Net 2.0, how can I get what parameters defined in an rdl report file? I know the report name and the report is deployed to a server.
The database has approx. 2500 temporary tables. The temp tables match a pattern such as APTMP... I tried deleting the tables in SSMS with the statement, Delete from Information_Schema.tables where substring(table_name,1,5) = 'APTMP' This returns the error message"Ad hoc updates to system catalogs are not allowed".
What is the correct way to delete a group of tables whose name match a pattern from within SSMS?
Thank you for taking the time to read this, I need all the advise and help I can get on this ... so please post anything you think would work ... A little confused I am: Have a database table called "people" with "person name" and "ID" field. My ASP.NET application mainly stores articles in article table. An article's Article text mentions various people's names in different combinations (e.g. John, Smith, John Smith, Smith John, etc) Is there any way, I could compare the article text stored in article table with people table and get the people from people table along with their ID's who have been mentioned in that article? ... so in an article "i love john smith ... and i think Mr smith has always been helpful", I get John Smith back... Not too sure being honest, what is the best way of implementing this, looking for the most efficient way, probably using XML? SQL Query or may be ASP.NET's code behind? Thanks once again for taking the time. Cheers, Tyro
Hi, I need a query to get the index names of particular tables. for eg.. i have some tables like emp_data,emp_job....etc..Now i want to find all indexe names for those tablenames that starts with emp........ Plz help me...
how to find the names of the tables owned by the particular user in sql server and how to display the distinct object types owned by the particular user.
I am using sql server as back end. Through connection string I am getting database name. But in A dropdown I want to show list of table in that database. And in another B drop down I want to show fields of table selected in A dropdown. can any one help in getting the field .
The sp_spaceused proc seems to have been removed in 7.0? Dbcc sqlperf also seems to have been removed? Surely there must be a counterpart - which is? I like to have a script which shows the space usage especially on a table basis for a periodic report.
I need to find column names if any after 2 “check” columns.
Scenario: I have a database, with approx 400-1500 tables, depending on installation of software. The software is structured so that, when it synchronizes the SQL database it will create all the columns e.g. custacc, custname etc. and then it will always put in two check columns “CheckOne” and “CheckTwo” these two columns has to be the two last ones. In 99.9 this always works fine, but sometime if the users creates a new field in the software, when it synchronizes the new field “lands” behind the two checkfields, which is not good.
So what I am after is a script, which can run through all user tables, tell me if there are columns after the two checkfields and list those tables if any.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Henrik.
