Hello,
I have a stored procedure that on two fields it allows null. On the report, I have two DropDownList boxes that are populated with data, however, I would like the user to be able to have the option of not selecting an item from these list, thus passing null to the stored procedure.
When I goto "Report | Report Parameters" I have set these fields to "allow null" and "allow blank" and at the bottom I also gave it the default value of null.
When I run the report in preview mode, those two dropdownlist have a <Select a Value> and my assumption is since I want them to pass null, I will just leave them that way. However, when the report is ran, I receive an error saying "Please select a value for the parameter: (my parameter)". So it forces me to select an option at which I don't want to do.
How can I set this to pass a null?

Subscription Issue With Null Default Parameter - Key Cannot Be Null
May 3, 2007I have a report that is run on a monthly basis with a default date of null. The stored procedure determines the month-end date that it should use should it be sent a null date.
The report works fine when I tell it to create a history entry; however, when I try to add a subscription it doesn't appear to like the null parameter value. Since I have told the report to have a default value of null it doesn't allow me to enter a value on the subscription page.
Now, I suppose I could remove the parameter altogether from the stored proc, but then the users would never be able to run the report for a previous time period. Can someone explain to me why default values aren't allowed to be used on subscriptions when they seem to work fine for ad hoc and scheduled reports? This is really quite frustrating as most of my reports require a date value and default to null so that the user doesn't have to enter them for the latest data.

Filters For Dataset From Parameter - How To Ignore If The Parameter Is NULL ?

I am starting to use reporting services and I created a report that takes 4 parameters for a Filter on the dataset.
The idea is the create snapshot nightly and then display the report filtered based on parameters to users.
I'd like that the filter be ignored for a parameter if the parameter is passed as NULL,
Right now I defined it this way :
Left =Fields!RegionCode.Value
Operator =
Right =IIF(IsNothing(Parameters!RegionCode.Value),Fields!RegionCode.Value,Parameters!RegionCode.Value)
I do this for the 4 parameters that are passed, if they are null, make then equals to the field.
I was wondering if there is a way to ignore the whole parameter all together, I would guess it'll be faster to execute.

How To Pass NULL To SQLdatasource Stored Param
Sep 23, 2007I'm developing a web app using VS2005. I have a webpage with panel containing a gridview populated by a SQLdatasource. The SQLdatasource in turn is populated by a stored procedure that can take up to 5 parameters. The user types in up to 5 separate words (searchterms) in a text box which are then parsed and passed to the stored proc in the datasource which performs a fulltext search. The gridview then becomes visible. My problem is that unless the user types in 5 searchterms (no less), the gridview returns zero rows. 5 searchterms returns the proper results. Somehow, I need to be able to pass in null or empty values for unneeded parameters.
I've tested the stored procedure in Query Analyzer and from within the SQLdatasource configuration (using Test Query) using 0 up to 5 parameters and it works fine, so that's not my problem. Sep 23, 2014I have a Nullable columns. I want the value to be zero if NULL is passed.
1) having a view for every such table,
2) using ISNULL for needed columns in that view
3) using those view for inserts instead of using tables directly.
This way i can reduce the number of places to use ISNULL in all my SPs.I dont want to make it to NOT NULL, as my application impact will be high. And Default constraint does not work here.

May 22, 2008I see a lot of posts asking for help with this type of problem but cannot find an answer that works. After 24 hours of trying, using examples from the Microsoft documentation, it's been utterly impossible to pass a parameter to a report via URL.
To make sure I'm not fighting more than one problem at the same time, I've stepped away from the production report I was trying to produce and created a simple report with a parameter named "p1". The only field on this test report is a textbox that displays the value of the parameter "p1". If I set the report up so that the user is queried for a value for "p1", the report works as expected -- the parameter is echoed back on the report.
The same thing can't be done via the URL. If I follow the docs and tack something like &rs:Command=Render&p1=hello onto the URL, I'm prompted for a value and/or told 'p1 is missing a value', depending on the visibility and default options I set for the parameter in the report definition.
I've tried every possible combination of settings I can think of for a parameter in the report definition, and every single one fails. Is this a task that's beyond RS abilities?

"The microsoft jet database engine cannot find the input

There is nothing wrong with the table name.
I cant understand what the problem is ?????

Pass A Parameter To A Trigger?
Oct 18, 2004The application developers came up with an interesting requirement that I’d like some help with.
They want to be able to somehow pass a parameter to the trigger that is fired when you do something to a table. The parameter would control what logic is executed within the trigger.
The two solutions that I proposed, but were found unacceptable by them were:
1.Have parameter as a column within the table itself.
2.Don’t use Update, Delete, Insert but instead use a stored procedure.
Thoughts are welcome.
