How Can I Receive An Error From The SMTP Task And Get It To Stop Failing When Attachment Isn't Found
Apr 9, 2008
Hi,
I am using the SMTP Task to send an email to about 200 individuals with their own specific attachment. If it cannot find the attachment the SMTP Task fails.
Is there a way to log the failure and have it keep going? That way it will still process everyone, but I would get a list of those who didn't receive the email because there was a problem.
I looked at Jamie Thompson's blog and he had a great script to send out emails. But if I use that, I haven't yet figured out how to pass the filename variable to it and attach the file. Even if I use that script, how do I deal with the errors?
Hi, this is my first post and I'm relatively new to SSIS so please go easy on me.
Without going into too much detail about it, I've set up a simple SSIS package which does this in a nutshell:
Foreach loop picks up all *.xls files in a given folder 1 - Puts the name of the current spreadsheet into a variable 2 - File System Task copies the current spreadsheet ("abc.xls") to a file called "work.xls" 3 - Data Flow task performs data extraction on "work.xls" and puts it into a SQL server database 4 - File System Task moves "abc.xls" into a "success" folder Continues with loop - move onto next spreadsheet
This works fine, so long as the spreadsheets all have the same number of columns.
As soon as one of them has a column missing (believe me, this will happen - we're dealing with users here) the package falls over at step 3.
When the package comes across an erroneous spreadsheet, what I'd like to do is move the offending file to a failure folder (making step 4 either a success or failure file move) and carry on with the next one.
I know that you can have an error path (the red line) from any step within the dataflow task, but this doesn't help me because the error lies in the structure of the spreadsheet and not the contents.
I've already come up with a work around whereby each file is moved into the failures folder just after step 2, then moved from the failures folder into the success folder at step 4.
This almost gives me what I want, although of course the package still falls over whenever it encounters a dodgy looking spreadsheet.
Is there any way that I can get the package to do what I'm after?
I have created a FTP task that logs into FTP server and receives files and scheduled it to run every 15min. However, it fails when there are no files on FTP. How would I check the if files exist? How can I catch the FTP task error and compare it to Hresults.NoFilesFound in a script task?
I'm running SQL Server 7.0 SP3 and having trouble with DTS.
I have an Execute SQL Task that runs several stored procedures. When one of the stored procedures fails, the Execute SQL Task just terminates without failing.
I found a knowledge base article (Q238523) dealing with this situation but it was supposedly fixed in SP2 - I have SP3! The other work around suggested, issuing a SET NOCOUNT ON, does not always work.
Has anyone else run into this or have any other suggestions.
I hate the thought of spending days doing another work around in order get basic DTS functionalty to work as it should!
I have a package that fails as soon as it hits the first Data Flow that contains a Derived Column task. The task takes three date columns and looks for a date of 6/6/2079. If it is there, it is replaced with a NULL. This task worked fine until I installed the Non-CTP version of SQL 2005 SP1, earlier today. (I went from RTM 9.0.1399 to SP1 9.0.2047)Does anyone have any ideas?
Here is the error I am trapping:
An error occurred while evaluating the function.
The "component "Update Max Date Value to NULL" (346)" failed because error code 0xC0049067 occurred, and the error row disposition on "input column "WeekEndingDate" (455)" specifies failure on error. An error occurred on the specified object of the specified component.
The ProcessInput method on component "Update Max Date Value to NULL" (346) failed with error code 0xC0209029. The identified component returned an error from the ProcessInput method. The error is specific to the component, but the error is fatal and will cause the Data Flow task to stop running.
Thread "WorkThread0" has exited with error code 0xC0209029.
I tried to configure the error output to ignore the failure. The task succeeded. It did not insert anything, however, for the three columns in question. It then failed on the next Data Flow that contained a Derived Column task. I tried to pre-populate the columns with a default date, but no go. Any help would be appreciated.
When any of my tasks or script tasks in my control flow, or data flow, have an error, the entire package, and then the calling package fail, as far as I've seen, through some CTP versions, beta versions, and the release version of SQL Server 2005.
But, I've just made a change, in an sproc called from an ExecuteSQL Task in a PreExecute event attached to a DataFlow, and that ExecuteSQL Task is reporting an error in the output window, but the package execution is not being stopped. Why not?
I see something like so
Error: 0xC002F309 at MyExecuteSqlTaskName, Execute SQL Task: .... Task failed: MyExecuteSqlTaskName Warning: 0x80019002 at OnPreExecute: The Execution method succeeded, but the number of errors raised (1) reached the maximum allowed (1); resulting in failure. This occurs when the number of errors reaches the number specified in MaximumErrorCount. Change the MaximumErrorCount or fix the errors.
repeated many times in the output stream, and the same thing for the PostExecute event attached to the same object.
I'm disappointed, because I want errors propagated upwards, as I'm used to.
I looked, and as far as I can tell, all my ExecuteSQL tasks (in events and in the regular control flow) have the default settings of
Do I have to go revise these settings on every ExecuteSQL Task in every event handler in every SSIS package? (That will be exceedingly tedious.) Do I set these on the ExecuteSQL task inside the event? Do I set these on the event handler itself?
When my ForEach Loop runs, when a file does not exist on the server, I am getting a File does not exist error.I would prefer to write a mesaage to my log and then move on to the next step successfully. When I got to Event Handlers and select OnTaskFailed, what do I want to do from here?
I am new to the SSIS package and was trying to figure out how to use SMTP authetication with a 'Send Mail Task' Our company's server requries SMTP authentication for mail. The Send Mail task only allows for Windows authentication.
What can I do to get the SMTP authentication to work for the Send Mail Task? Regards, James Robb
Hi, I have RS 2000 running on windows 2003 server. I want user to subscribe to reports and receive reports via email. Initially SMTP was not installed for IIS 6.0, so I installed it and the right way (I had done it on different machine before and was succefull in that) but on this particular machines ...I don't see "Default SMTP Virtual Server" node when I open IIS manager. This is the third day I am working on this issue ..please help me out guys, prashant
We have an SSIS job that runs once a day and sends emails. For security reasons, IT switched the send-mail porton the smtp server from 25 to a different number (let's say 1234).
So, I changed the SSIS SMTP Connection Manager's smtpServer string to smptserver:1234
However, this does not seem to be working. I keep getting 'Send Mail Failure' error.
Any ideas how to set the port number for sending emails using SSIS?
I am new to SSIS. I need to read the files in a remote server folder and ftp them to the other remote server folder.
I know , I have to set up FTP task and FTP task must use a variable to provide the path information. But I am not sure how I can do this. Anyone suggest me with the script task to populate the variable and steps involved in this.
I need help to fix SSIS Send Mail Task Error. I have a
Data Flow Read from Sql Data base and then put the query result into excel file (OLE DB Source --> Excel Destination)
Send Mail Task Email excel file from the data flow
Control Flow : Data Flow --> Send Mail Task
The package throws an error below. I tried to disable my antivirus because i thought it's throwing an error because of the antivirus. But, it's still throwing the same error. If i tried to send email without attachment, it works just fine. Is there anybody know how to fix this?
Progress: The SendMail task is initiated. - 0 percent complete [Send Mail Task] Error: An error occurred with the following error message: "The operation has timed out.". Progress: The SendMail task is completed. - 100 percent complete Task Send Mail Task failed
Hello dear i am using windows 2003 server where i have installed smtp server now i want to configure with remote stmp so i can send an email to any domain.
what can cause the above error when connecting to an endpoint via a c# app? the app, and sql are both on my machine ( im just doing this for test purposes and to learn something new.)
First off I understand that it is a horrible idea to run extremely large/long running reports, but sometimes it ends up being the best possible solution due to external forces.
I've got a 25,000 page report that we recently converted from crystal reports to SSRS. The SSRS server is a 64bit 2003 server with 32 gigs of ram running SSRS 2005. When running the report through the report manager web application, it renders in the browser/viewer after about 12 minutes. Exporting to pdf through the browser/viewer in the report manager takes an additional 55 minutes. It does work and it produces a whopping 1.03gb pdf.
Unfortunately, I've run into a problem when trying to do this from a console application using the SSRS client API. After about 30-35 minutes I get an exception on the client with the following error: Exception Message: The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a receive. InnerException = Unable to read data from the transport connection: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.
Here is the api call:
Code Snippet
byte[] m_data = reportingService.Render(this.ReportPath, this.ExportFormat, null, deviceInfo, selectedParameters, null, null, out encoding, out m_mimeType,
out usedParameters, out warnings, out streamIds); Here are some things I've tried so far:
set the HttpRuntime ExecutionTimeout value to 3 hours on the report server disabled http keep alives on the report server increased the script timeout on the report server set the report to never time out on the server set the report timeout to several hours on the client call Disabled antivirus on the client side, and verified there was no antivirus running on the reporting server. Tried using default credentials in the ReportingService object as opposed to supplying credentailsAny ideas would be appreciated. I understand the best solution is to split the report up into smaller reports, which is the backup option, but being able to keep it as one report is the goal.
I have a scheduled task that has been running for several weeks now. When I try to stop it from the scheduled task manager, all appears to go well, but the task continues to show under the running tasks tab. Is there any other way to force this task to stop?
Has anybody seen this error. the SMTP somehow seems to work, but the SQL server is not able to send out notifications for jobs.
Message The mail could not be sent to the recipients because of the mail server failure. (Sending Mail using Account 1 (2007-12-10T08:41:06). Exception Message: Could not connect to mail server. (No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it). )
I have searched a whole lot of web and nothing nothing nothing. Any help is welcome Regards Paresh Motiwala
I can not debug any of my scripts. They execute just fine, but if I have a breakpoint set in the script code (in VSA), I get the message:
SQL server integration services script task has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost. Debug Close
When I choose "Close" I get this:
sMicrosoft Visual Studio for Applications has lost the link to . Your work will be exported to <<my Local Settings My Documents path>> when you quit the application. OK When I click "OK" my package executes normally, but no breakpoints will fire from that point on.
What SSIS Task or process can i use to stop my Control Flow Process from running?
I created a SQL Task to do a count on a table to see if there is data, if the count is > 0 then the Control Flow task must continue, else it uses a RAISERROR statement which i use with the event handler, but i want to put something in the event handler to stop the process then and not continue?
I am running a SSIS package under a trusted account and I am running into a problem when I am executing a email task. The error is an operation timeout which was reported in the log. I am using windows authentication on the connection manager. Other email task configured the exact same way run correctly in the same run. Also when I execute task from BIDS the email is sent. Is there a bug in SSIS which would cause this behavior or some kind of exchange server configuration issue? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Greg
ALTER PROCEDURE [Audit].[spBatchPackage_OnExtract]

,@Batch_Idx int
,@Source nvarchar(1024)
,@SourceId uniqueidentifier
,@Destination nvarchar(1024)
,@StartTime DATETIME
,@FileSpecification nvarchar(2)
When I execute the SQL Task, I get this error:
[Execute SQL Task] Error: Executing the query "[Audit].[spBatchPackage_OnExtract] ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?" failed with the following error: "Invalid character value for cast specification". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly.
Any help on clearing up this error would be appreciated!
Executing the simplest of Web Service tasks consistently fail with the error: "Object reference not set to an instance of an object".
This really isn't a very helpful message for this task, and there's nothing from the task editor that can be adjusted. I am using SP1, the HTTP connection to the service tests OK, the WSDL file downloads OK, and the methods and parameters appear OK.
I've got a package which reads a text file into a table and updates another. I set up configurations so that I could import it into the SSIS store on both my dev and live servers. Now, I'm getting this error. I tried removing the configs and am still getting it.
I've been through each step and everything looks okay. Does anyone have any idea (a) what's wrong, (b) how to localise the error or (c) get any additional information? Or do I just have to recreate the package from scratch?

I am having problems with an SSIS package whereby the first step of the package is failing. I am getting the following error message:
Unable to connect to FTP server using "FTPLocation".
This only happens when I use a Agent Proxy as the 'Run as' option. If I change it back to SQL Agent Service Account it works perfectly.
For the credentials of the proxy, I have used my own windows login as the identity. And I have full priveleges on the server, ie if I log on to the server I can successfully ftp to the same site and download the file without any problems. So shouldn't the Agent be able to do so too when it uses my credentials?
Getting this error when running a maintenance plan step. The backup steps work fine.

I have just finished going thru a long process getting SP2 CU3 patch installed.
The first file microsoft sent was corrupted and in turn corrupted my .NET Framework, had to run repair on the Framework before installing CU3. I am now on version 9.0.3186. I have two other boxes with the same version and do not have this problem
My understanding is that all of the patches/hotfixes since SP,1 that this problem was resolved
Any help will be greatly appreciated as I am in a very heavy development stage on this box.
I am trying to create a SSIS package that will create a csv of a dataset for daily events in the database. However there will be days that there was no activity and thus an empty dataset. The package still runs fine but I want to stop the package if the dataset is empty.
FLOW:
DATA FLOW task: get daily data and put in CSV file
FTP TASK: upload the file to FTP server
MAIL/Copy file task: Move the file and then send a confirmation mail on task completion status.
Pretty simple and it all works great, I do have a few complexities in there. What I would like to add and I am at a loss is at the beginning, if the OLE DB Task resultset is empty then move to Mail Task otherwise process normally. I have tried conditional split, derived columns, the only thing I haven't tried in Script task and am not sure about that yet.
Hi I have completed my first SSIS master package which runs a whole lot of child packages depending on value of expressions on workflow. (refer http://www.sqlis.com/306-3.aspx)
Each of my child packages is .dtsx file location and each Excute Package task uses the file connection.
The master parent package is also a dtsx file location which will be run by a SQL Server 2005 Agent
All good--problem is testing from BIDs--each time a Excecute package task is run--turns yellow a new tab appears apears in the design window --showing you that particular .dtsx file control flow detail. DTS never had this behaviour --can I turn this off in the BIDS ie as I have dozens of new tabs at run time which makes it very hard to keep track of the master package. All I want is the master package running from BIDs, and no new tabs appearing at run time???
The thing is I am using a DTS package to get data from db2 residing on a s390-mainframe and put it in a sql 2000 db on windows 2000 server..
I have the odbc driver that the server guys gave me..I installed it and then run a batch pgm, which i think does the database set up...in short i set up the DSN's in my local machine..I can use the dsn when i use the sql client...
I can't create a new package and then complete the task..Problem is when i try set up a transform task, i get a memory error...it says that the instruction referenced a memory location that can't be read...
So what i do is i use the import task in sql...which inturn uses the same odbc connection and runs the query on db2..inserts the results into a table in sql..then save the package...Only problem is that i can't edit the transorm task...same memory error...
Any idea why this happens ?? I would like to see how i can get past this using Odbc...
