Nov 12, 2007

let's say I have a table named "myTable" in a SQL database:

UniqueID
FirstName
FamilyName

McDonald's

I want to create a SQL query should contain a parameter for example:

Unable To Retrieve Data When Using Greek Characters In Statement

Apr 26, 2007

Hi,I'm trying to do retrieve some data from a table where the content isin Greek, however, thequery is not working. It's a very simple statement, but I'm missingsomething.Here is the table...if exists (select * from dbo.sysobjects where id = object_id(N'[dbo].[REPORT_LOCALE]') and OBJECTPROPERTY(id, N'IsUserTable') = 1)drop table [dbo].[REPORT_LOCALE]GOCREATE TABLE [dbo].[REPORT_LOCALE] ([XL_REPORT_ID] [int] NULL ,[TEXT_NAME] [nvarchar] (50) COLLATE SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_ASNULL ,[LOCALE] [int] NULL) ON [PRIMARY]GOThe first statment shows me a number of rows. I copied the content ofthe Text_Name column and pasteit into QA to form the second statement. However, the second statementreturns no data.SELECT * FROM Report_LocaleSELECT * FROM Report_Locale WHERE Text_Name = 'Λογ.Διαχ. – ΤÏ?.-Î*Ï?ουπ.-Διαφ.'Hopefully the Greek characters will display properly within this post,but the idea is basically to take the Greek text and build that into aquery. I can do the remainder later once I understand why this doesnot work as I expect. I realise my expectation is based on doingthings in English so I need to understand the differences. We've donethis for various other languages using other character sets, which iswhy I am puzzled.Any pointers ?ThanksRyan

Reading/Writing Data From A SQL Database

Feb 14, 2008

Hi,
I have a data structure called 'Quote' which contains a number of different variables and controls ranging from text boxes, check boxes and radio buttons, i need to be able to read and write this from a database.

First I think a description of my overall project is needed:

Project Description
I have been given a brief that basically says: i have to create a programmed solution in VB to solve a problem. This problem can be anything we like, and I personally have chosen to create a program that manages quotes for building Log Cabins (this is very contrived and far from anything someone would do in the real world).

My solution will allow a generic user to create a quote (using a form with controls such as text boxes, check boxes, radio buttons) , and then save this to file. These users may then wish to load/edit this quote at a later date, from another form.

Whilst completing this project, i'll only have up to about 5 records (quotes) within the system, so i dont need the ability to store hundreds of records. And each record will be relatively short, with only about 10-15 data items within the data structure.

Also the Admin (or business owner in this case) need to be able to view all saved quotes in a presentable format, and edit them if needs be, from within this same program.

This solution does not need to be absolutely perfect and 100% efficiently coded, or have all the bells and whistles a real-world program would have. This is for an A level computing project by the way.

So basically, i need to be able to read from the database (to populate a Data Grid (i imagine this is best way?)) and so Admin can access any quote and edit it (editing is not vital, but viewing/printing is. Maybe i should stop at just viewing any quote?). Also i need generic users to be able to fill in the Edit Quote form and then save this data into the database.

And is a data structure really required for me to use a database?

I've never used databases in VB before (but have used them elsewhere, mainly Access) and so am completely new to this. Any help will be much appreciated.
Thanks

Adding Data From A Form To A Database

Nov 15, 2007

Very basic question here but I need to add a form to a page so it adds content, its as simple as that.  I've done this kind of using a <asp.Formview> tag and it works, but becuase I think I've used a form view I have to click add to insert data first.  Should I be using the <asp:formview> tag or is it a problem with the templates?

Hello.  As the subject heading says, I'm not able to insert data typed into the contact form on my page into a database table.  I'm using an SqlDataSource object.  Here's the code for this page:

InfoPath Form's Data To SQL / SSRS Database

Apr 11, 2008

Hi

In my current project we are dealing with a lot if Infopath forms of all sizes and complexities. currently they are being saved in Forms library of sharepoint.
We need to build a warehouse for SSRS which receives data either from content database or from infopath forms submit with minimum latency.
I thought of few alternatives, but, not sure which is most robust and economical.
1. Built c# classes to parse XML of infopath forms and then push data to SQL using ADO.net and SQL stored procedure while item is being added (ItemAdding) to Forms Library.
2. Use CAML queries to extract XML from forms library and then continue with C#/ADO/SQL..
3. Use SSIS APIs and webservices to massage XML and put it to SQL at ItemAdding event
4. Use CAML queries to generate XML files and stage it to FTP and rest will be done on SSIS.

I am currently looking for feseability information based of Besy Known Practise. Please feel free to suggest a totally new approach, if available.

Thanks

Trouble Writing Stored Procedure To Retrieve Records By Selected Month And Year

May 15, 2007

hi,
i am a nubie, and struggling with the where clause in my stored procedure. here is what i need to do:
i have a gridview that displays records of monthly view of data. i want the user to be able to page through any selected month to view its corresponding data. the way i wanted to do this was to set up three link buttons above my gridview:
[<<Prev]  [Selected Month]  [Next>>]
 the text for 'selected month' would change to correspond to which month of data was currently being displayed in the gridview (and default to the current month when the application first loads).
i am having trouble writing the 'where' clause in my stored procedure to retrieve the selected month and year.
i am using sql server 2000. i read this article (http://forums.asp.net/thread/1538777.aspx), but was not able to adapt it to what i am doing.
i am open to other suggestions of how to do this if you know of a cleaner or more efficient way. thanks!

Writing Binary Data To Database Only To Refrence A File Location?

Sep 29, 2006

Hey everyone I've got this question that has me stuck for the last few days but its an important part of my website.....What I am trying to do is basicly have a user be able to upload a file, have that uploaded file plus some other info automaticly display on other parts of my site, and have a different user eventually be able to download that file....I have thought about allowing the file upload as a BLOB but still cannot find a proper way to execute this using VB, plus I have heard that this way of doing it is not reccommeneded cause databases were not designed to store large files like this, lots of articles recommened having the file upload to a Folder on your server then get the binary data for the file that can be placed in a database to refrence that particular file.....Well this also proves to be a lot harder then said here is what I got so far (written in C#) protected void UploadBtn_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
if (FileUpLoad1.HasFile)
{

FileUpLoad1.SaveAs(@"C:Documents and SettingsAdamMy DocumentsVisual Studio 2005ProjectsWebsiteFiles" + FileUpLoad1.FileName);
Label1.Text = "File Uploaded: " + FileUpLoad1.FileName;
}
else
{
Label1.Text = "No File Uploaded.";
}
}
and here is the asp part of the code that goes with it<asp:FileUpLoad id="FileUpLoad1" runat="server" />

<asp:Button id="UploadBtn" Text="Upload File" OnClick="UploadBtn_Click" runat="server" Width="105px" />

<asp:Label ID="Label1" runat="server" Text=""></asp:Label>
 Now from what I know is I need to get the binary of the file which I have read you can do with the Page.Request.Files statement but again not sure how I would impliment this.  Does anyone have any suggestions on which way I should take when dealing with this should I try and just use the BLOB method or use the binary refrence method? and if so how would I impliment this, heck even some good tutorials on the subject would be great... Thanks.....Adam

How To Retrieve Data As XML From SQL Database

Feb 28, 2007

Hi,
I have a website which is designed to search for employee information. I have the search system working which does exactly what I want to, but as an added feature I want there to be a button which, when someone clicks on it, it takes whatever the previous search was and generates a set of data in XML format which is based on the results. For example:
User searches for all entries with Forename = John; Results are listed in a gridview as per expected.
User then presses button with XML on it, and page pops up with just the XML output on it, i.e. whatever results are on the gridview but in a nested XML format
<records>    <record>       <Forename>John</Forename>       <Surname>Smith</Surname>       <Email>j.smith@blah.com</Email>       <Ext>1234</Ext>       <DeptList>History</DeptList>    </record></records>
I have created a stored procedure which will take the parameters from the search boxes and return the above information, but I don't know if this is the best way. Here it is for those interested:
CREATE PROCEDURE ps_record_SELECT_NameSurnameEmailExtDeptasXML
@Forename varchar(50),
@Surname varchar(50),
@Email varchar(50),
@Ext varchar(4),
@DeptList varchar(50)
AS
SELECT Forename, Surname, Email, Ext, DeptList
FROM dbo.record
WHERE Forename LIKE COALESCE(@Forename,Forename) AND
Surname LIKE COALESCE(@Surname,Surname) AND
Email LIKE COALESCE(@Email,Email) AND
Ext LIKE COALESCE(@Ext,Ext) AND
DeptList LIKE COALESCE(@DeptList,DeptList)
FOR XML AUTO, ELEMENTS
If someone could be kind enough to help me out with this, I'd be really grateful.
Many thanks,
Tom

Error During Loading Data Form A Falt File Into DB2 Database??ß

Mar 29, 2006

Hi,

I have a problem loading data from a flat file into a DB2 Dtabase by using the OLE DB Provider for DB2.

I read the data from a flat file in the unicode format and as soon as the data is to be written in the DB2 database the following error occurs and the loading process is aborted:

Information: 0x402090DE at Data Flow Task, Flat File Source [813]: The total number of data rows processed for file "C:Dokumente und EinstellungenAdministratorDesktopSSIS1.txt" is 2.
Error: 0xC0202009 at Data Flow Task, OLE DB Destination [842]: An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80040E53.
Error: 0xC0047022 at Data Flow Task, DTS.Pipeline: The ProcessInput method on component "OLE DB Destination" (842) failed with error code 0xC0202009. The identified component returned an error from the ProcessInput method. The error is specific to the component, but the error is fatal and will cause the Data Flow task to stop running.
Error: 0xC0047021 at Data Flow Task, DTS.Pipeline: Thread "WorkThread0" has exited with error code 0xC0202009.
Information: 0x40043008 at Data Flow Task, DTS.Pipeline: Post Execute phase is beginning.......

......Warning: 0x80019002 at Package: The Execution method succeeded, but the number of errors raised (3) reached the maximum allowed (1); resulting in failure. This occurs when the number of errors reaches the number specified in MaximumErrorCount. Change the MaximumErrorCount or fix the errors.
SSIS package "Package 1.dtsx" finished: Failure.

I dont know waht those error codes meanand I tried so many things already. The tables in the database are created correctly and also, SSIS can read the data from the database if I use the preview function, but somehow, the program never starts to write data into the database for some reason. Can anyone help me???

Thx, andy

Retrieve Data From Database And Display It In A Label

Jan 21, 2008

Below is code for inserting data into the database that I know works, so I thought if I replace  "Insert" with "Select" I could retrieve a specific row from my database and present it in a label or text box but nothing happened. How can I retrieve a row or rows from a database using vb code and display it in a textbox? I'm using visual web developer 2008 which is similar to 2005.
Thank you.

 Dim UserDatasource As New SqlDataSourceUserDatasource.ConnectionString = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("ASPNETDBConnectionString1").ToString()

UserDatasource.InsertCommandType = SqlDataSourceCommandType.Text
UserDatasource.InsertCommand = "insert into table1 (Username, comments, points,totalpoints, ipaddress, datatimestamp) values (@Username, @comments, @points,@totalpoints, @ipaddress, @datatimestamp)"

 UserDatasource.InsertParameters.Add("username", Context.User.Identity.Name)
UserDatasource.InsertParameters.Add("comments", txtSearch.Text)UserDatasource.InsertParameters.Add("points", points)
UserDatasource.InsertParameters.Add("ipaddress", Request.UserHostAddress)UserDatasource.InsertParameters.Add("datatimestamp", DateTime.Now())
 Dim rowaffected As Integer = 0

Try
rowaffected = UserDatasource.Insert()MsgBox("Thanks for the post", MsgBoxStyle.OkOnly, "Post Executed")
txtSearch.Text = ""Catch ex As Exception
MsgBox("Please sign in or sign up to post comment", MsgBoxStyle.OkOnly, "Login Error")
