I want to set the body of the mail which i need to send to a variable. What is the best variable to use for that since the message can be quite large and Im not sure whether string is the best option since I see there is an Object variable type but I have not Object variable types before.
Any opinions on this?

File Name Includes File Path In DTS Send Mail Task - Help
Jan 26, 2004I have an issue with a DTS package. We create a zip file and then attach it to emails going out using DTS. The problem is that the attachment, when received, is named using the full path to the file, so it is quite long.
Has anyone seen this before? Is there a way out of this?
I am considering mapping a drive to the share holding the file to be named, but the fact is this will shorten the name but will still result in the path being included.
I am wondering if this is a bug, as I suspect this isn't the default behaviour.

Send Mail Can Retreive Log File
Apr 1, 2008I have developed a SSIS package on my local box and everything worked fine until I moved it to the production server. I have a Send Mail Task that is triggered by any of the other processes when they fail. It sends an email to the Admin with the current log file. My issue is that when it attempts to grab the log file (as an attachment) it fails with the following error message:
OnError,BILBO,UMIALIKJamesT,Email George,{a73bfc5c-d68e-426a-98ad-55e701670470},{677B8238-8697-454F-8F8A-DD6378E93455},4/1/2008 10:25:28 AM,4/1/2008 10:25:28 AM,-1073573429,0x,Either the file "D:SQL200590DTSPackagesPPROutputoutput.txt" does not exist or you do not have permissions to access the file.
It certainly exists and I've open all permissions up on the folder. What I find even more interesting is that the Package is just a single directory up from the Output file. The Package resides at D:SQL200590DTSPackagesPPR and is run via a batch file. It seems to me that it should have no issue grabbing this file and sending it, and when I don't attach the file it sends just fine.

Send Mail Doesn't 'see' File Create
Jul 28, 2007I have a number of jobs which in step one create a flat file from my databases using an expression to insert the date (yyyy-mm-dd) within the file name. I am then in step two using send mail to send those files to my users, again using an expression to reference the attached file.
When the first step's file is already created and I'm overwriting, the job runs fine either manually within Business Studio or as a scheduled job via SQL Agent. But when the files are being created in step one, the job fails validation with the message that the send mail file attachment doesn't exist! SSIS doesn't seem to recognize that the file is being created in the prior step. Could this be true? Or is there some other problem that I'm missing?

Send Mail Task - Succeeds But Does Not Send Mail
Nov 28, 2007I have attempted to report out errors at the end of an ETL process by alerting supporting DBAs of errors using the SSIS "Send Mail Task". Task completes along with the sequenced packages, but does not mail anything out. No logic at this time for trigger, just success from the previous task triggering the task to send mail. I also get no errors in the output, and I get no output indicating the send mail task fired, but it does go "green". Do I have to enable database mail and have privileges?

SQL Server 2008 :: Excel File Name In Send Mail Task Using SSIS
Jun 1, 2015I have a package which is creating a excel file 'ExcelName.xls' and storing in 'E:ReportingDelivered_Reports'. Now I have to attach this report using send mail task and send it to given mail id. To achieve this I have configured the send mail task and in Expression Builder, I have selected the below expression:

SQL Agent Won't Send Database Mail

Here's the scoop, and I've seen several posts to this effect but none of the solutions have worked.
Enabled database mail. confirmed profiles and can send test database mail from Query Window. I can also right click Database mail and send test emails. Configured valid operator using same email address for the test emails above.
Enabled database mail profile under SQL Agent properties > Alert System.
From what I've seen, the test button is supposed to be greyed out, and it is. However alerts do not send emails operator.
I've done this

Nov 23, 2006i've got a brand new server and just installed SQL 2005.
when i try to send a test email, i get the following error message:
The mail could not be sent to the recipients because of the mail server failure. (Sending Mail using Account 5 (2006-11-23T11:49:34). Exception Message: Could not connect to mail server. (No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it). )
I have checked all items from troubleshoot and eveything is ok...any help ?

It sends the email with the file in the body but not in HTML format
it outputs the HTML tags + data
eg: <span style="font-size:9.0pt;">Period: 2008.04</span>
I used the same file in a DTS package & that works fine.

The job is scheduled to run every 30 minutes.
Is it somehow possible to configure it so that it only sends one email in case of subsequent failures instead of "spamming" my inbox every half hour?
Unable To Send Database Mail To External User
Jul 13, 2015I have two domains. forest domain abc which has the exchange infrastructure. forest domain xyz which does not have exchange. There is a two way trust set up.
I have set up database mail which sends internally but not externally on the xyz domain its uses mailrelay address to comunicate with exchange. The receive connector is set up correctly on exchange on domain abc as I have managed to send email from a sql server to external contact in the abc domain.
The IP addresses are correct on the receive connector.
The problem is I am unable to send to an external contact from the sql server in the xyz domain. Not sure if this an exchange issue or database mail.

Jun 12, 2014I have been using database mail for quite a few years now. I started using it with SQL Server 2005 and then it worked fine. Then we went over to SQL 2012 and the problems started. At first I could not get any e-mails out and read a post by Microsoft that a patch needs to come out but not available yet. That was in 2012. Presumably the patch came out with windows updates and my DB Mail started working. Now, however, I have the problem that some e-mails do get sent but the majority failed.
I use this so that whenever a user captures certain data to update a person's status on the database then an automatic e-mail will be sent to that person to inform them of their status at this company.

Oct 27, 2013I need to set a trigger so that an email is generated when a row is inserted into the ABC_DB_OnlineFormsConfirm table. The message will include data not only from that table, but from a related table called ABC_DB_OnlineForms. The common field between the two is FormID. This is related to an online account application process where the user has the option of completing it in one session, or saving it and coming back at a later time. Once the user has completed the first screen and clicks continue, a record is written to ABC_DB_OnlineForms. At the very end, when he clicks “Save and Complete”, a row is written to the ABC_DB_OnlineForms table. I would like the body of the email to include three separate lines, as follows. The first two pieces of data come from the OnlineForms table and the third from OnlineFormsConfirm. The field names are userid, IRSBackup and ConfirmationCode.

What I have below results in an email body that contains the confirmation code all by itself. If I switch @body=@MessageBody to @body=@UserID or @body=@Backup, it will report the correct single piece of data, but I have no idea how to get all three pieces at once as separate lines including the leading descriptor (UserID:, Confirmation Code, etc.).

Oct 19, 2015I am trying to send out notifications when jobs complete (fail or succeed). I have database mail working fine on my DEV server, but I am having issues with it on my PROD server. I am currently having people look into if McAfee may be blocking it.
I am able to send out a test email from SSMS>Management>Database Mail, but when I set a Notification for a job, the job will complete and in the history, it will say "NOTE: Failed to notify 'User' via email."
I have created an Operator and set up Profiles and Accounts, just as I did on my DEV server.

Hopefully someone out there will have an idea as this is driving me nuts.
I've setup a task to email on success/failure and keep receiving the following message when executed:
Progress: The SendMail task is initiated. - 0 percent complete
[Send Mail Task] Error: An error occurred with the following error message: "Failure sending mail.".
Progress: The SendMail task is completed. - 100 percent complete
Task Send Mail Task failed
When I configure Outlook Express on the same machine with the same settings it works.
On the SMTP Connection Manager I have left the default name, tested with both an IP address and Server Name, and no authentication or SSL.
On the Send Mail Task, it uses the above connection. The To: , From: , Subject fields are populated. Message SourceType is DirectInput, MessageSource is Test, Priority is Normal and no attachments or expressions etc.
Nothing useful is logged in the Event Viewer even with full logging turned on.
Any suggestions appreciated,

Configure SMTP Server Mail To Send Mail

The Database Mail feature is already enabled on the server, also I have a mail account on the other server.
The problem I faced is that I need to send mail from my SQL Server using a created email account on the other server. How should I configure my email to do that ?
Should I use a sysmail_add_account procedure to enable account, also set profile and profile account ? Does this way creates server mail account that is binded with other email account?
The mail should be sent from my SQL Server.

Error Sending Mail With Send Mail Task
Feb 6, 2008I keep getting a generic "Error Sending Mail" error. For testing purposes I am just trying to send using my own email account. What goes in the SMTP Server box in the connection manager? I have tried:
A - the exchange server address (SOMETHING.us.company.com)
B - The SMTP properties I see when I look at the properties of my email address: (my.name@abcd.efgh.company.com)
C - Just the end portion of the SMTP properties: (abcd.efgh.company.com)
D - My email address (my.name@company.com)
I don't know what to enter, or what is giving me such a generic error message.

Nov 10, 2006I know you can specify additional recipients in the To column by sepperating them with a semicolon. But whats the easiest way to send to several users, when the email address must be retrieved from a table with a query like this:
