How Can I Set Default Value Of Parameter That Come From Dataset By Using Expression?
Feb 27, 2008
Hi,
Now I can query dataset and bind to report parameter. But I have some problem about setting default value. I don't know, how to select max value from dataset by using expression.
Example, I query disticnt year from my table. The result has 2 years "2007" and "2008"
select distinct year(mytime) as myyear from mytable.
I set available parameter by using this dataset. Then, I set default value for this parameter by the other dataset ...
select max (distinct year(mytime)) as maxyear from mytable.
I want to select max value by using expression, not select max by using dataset.
How can I do?
Thank you very much.

Any way to have the default value of a parameter for a multi select parameter be the first value of the query of that parameter?

@pvColumnName  VARCHAR(100) = Default,
However, I am unable to determine what is the value for Default. Is it '' ?
Default is not permitted as a constant - below fails to parse:
WHERE t2.TABLE_TYPE = 'BASE TABLE'
AND (@pvColumnName = Default OR t1.[COLUMN_NAME] Like @vColumnName)

I'll go to a dataset, open up the query designer, add a new parameter, then refresh the fields, but the parameter won't be added as a report parameter. If I go to the dataset properties under the list of parameters, the value in the dropdown will be blank. However, sometimes this will automatically add.Â
Is this a bug in Visual Studio? How do I get around this?Â

Hi,
I am starting to use reporting services and I created a report that takes 4 parameters for a Filter on the dataset.
The idea is the create snapshot nightly and then display the report filtered based on parameters to users.
I'd like that the filter be ignored for a parameter if the parameter is passed as NULL,
Right now I defined it this way :
Left =Fields!RegionCode.Value
Operator =
Right =IIF(IsNothing(Parameters!RegionCode.Value),Fields!RegionCode.Value,Parameters!RegionCode.Value)
I do this for the 4 parameters that are passed, if they are null, make then equals to the field.
I was wondering if there is a way to ignore the whole parameter all together, I would guess it'll be faster to execute.
Thanks

So I have this great MDX query that runs fine in Management Studio and I need to use it in a report. The statement contains a LookupCube call. I've tried everything but I am unable to get access to the fields in the dataset when I go to design the report.
I've tried adding the =" in the beginning and the " at the end. I've also tried escaping the " with "". Everything I've tried however never gives me the ability to access the 'PREV BATCH ELIGIBLE BALANCE' field.
Before you ask, I'm using LookupCube because the below code is just a piece of a much large MDX query. I just figured I'd start small and see how it goes.
WITH MEMBER [Measures].[PREV BATCH ELIGIBLE BALANCE] AS LookupCube("CLAIMS"," ([Measures].[TOTAL BALANCE] ,[CLIENT].[ATC Healthcare, Inc.] , [ELIGIBILITY].[TRUE], [ROLL_FWD].[TRUE], " + [Batch].PrevMember.UniqueName + ")") SELECT { [Measures].[PREV BATCH ELIGIBLE BALANCE] } ON COLUMNS, { [BATCH].[MyComp Healthcare, Inc.].Children } ON ROWS FROM [CLAIMS]

An error has occurred during report processing.
Cannot set the command text for data set 'ScoreboardOLAP'.
Error during processing of the CommandText expression of dataset €˜ScoreboardOLAP€™
Can anyone help at all here? I've seen about 10 articles on this one but none appear to be relevant. I have a complex report comprising many sub-reports which runs successfully in a development environment. When deployed to an environment which comprises a separate report sever and report server DB I get the above error even when I try and browse to any of the sub-reports.
The sub-report is using an OLEDB connection to an SSAS DB and its command text is set as:-
=Code.GetQueryString(parameters)
Where GetQueryString is a function in the code section of the report which returns some MDX based on the supplied parameters. I obviously know the function works because it works in development mode.
I have tried to determine what is going on from the logs but the only messages I get are those above. I've set the data sources on the server up to use valid Windows Credentials stored on the server so I don't believe the issue is one of authentication
Any thoughts or tips in helping to diagnose the cause of the problem would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
I need "conditional" cascading parameters: In Report Manager when one changes parameter 1, parameter 2 get changed based on parameter 1. Optionally, one can also enter values to parameter 2 directly.
I was able to achieve this in SSRS 2000 (SP2) with the following setups. SSRS 2005 and SP1 no longer works - Parameter 2 always shows its default value regardless whether one select a value in Parameter 1 or not.
Parameter 1
available values: from query
default values: non query (specify a value "<None>")
Parameter 2
available values: Non query (no value specified)
default values: from query (based on Parameter 1)
It seems to me that the default value in SSRS 2000 is considered as cascading parameter. But it is no longer the case in SSRS 2005.
Is this a SSRS 2005 bug? is there any other work arounds or suggestions?
Thanks.

Hi,
I have parameters in my report. The user can choose the year, month and date (3 parameters).
Now I want to set default vaules for the parameters , so that the user sees the report for example for the current day without selecting the parameters. I tried to set the type of the parameters to DateTime and the default value for example for the year to "=Today().Year" . But when I execute the report an error occures . Something like : no validValue for this parameter.
My Attributes for the year month and date are from an Analyis Services Cube from a Server Time dimension .
Does somebody know how to make it possible to set default values for this parameters?
Other question :
Does somebody know how I can reduce the values for a parameter. For Example I have a parameter "year" from a server time dimension from a cube. The values which are available are "Year 2004", "Year 2005", "Year 2006", "Year 2007".
But I want that the user only can choose "Year 2006" or "Year 2007" ant not every Year or "All".
Or Other Example: The User should only choose a Date that is int the past or Today but not a Date in the future.
Thanks !

I have a dataset listing distinct values for items (like 1, D10, M4, etc.) The WHERE statement in my query refers to unit IN(@Unit). I then have 2 report parameters to select 1) a date (datetime); and 2) a multivalue parameter to select one or all of the "units". I would like the second parameter to default to "Select All". Can someone tell me how to do this? I'm sure this is a fairly simple thing but I am really struggling. The report parameter is set as multivalue; My "available values" is set to "from query" and refers to my "unit" dataset and the value and label fields are set to "unit" (only field I bring into this particular dataset). The "Default Values" section is set to "from query" , the dataset is set to "unit" and the value is set to "unit". I can preview the report and select a date but the list of units comes up with all boxes unchecked, including "Select All". Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks.

one of my SSIS packages use this expression to put todays date in if it is NULL:
(ISNULL(datejs)) ? GETDATE() : datejs
however, what I really want to do though is put a default date in like '2007-01-01' but I get syntax error because SSIS thinks it's a string, which it is I suppose.
Is it possible to do what I want it to?
Thanks

Hi All
I have two datasets (for querying active directory but this is kind of irrelevant for my problem which is a basic one)
The first gets a list of groups and I want to display GroupName in a dropdown list:
SELECT DistinguishedName, GroupName, GroupDescription
FROM tvf_GetListOfGroups('LDAP://OU=Applications,OU=Groups,OU=Production,DC=MRP,DC=NET,DC=NZ','Subtree')
ORDER BY GroupName
The above is fine and works but then I want to use the corresponding DistinguishedName of the GroupName selected in
the dropdown to drive the second query to populate the report
SELECT * FROM tvf_GetGroupMembers('LDAP://' + @DistinguishedName)
ORDER BY UserLogin
My problem is how to populate @DistinguishedName with the correct value to run run the query.
How? Please?
Thanks

I get the error Incorrect syntax near '@Param_TopNo, If i take the top @param_topno out the query works
The cutdown version off the query is...

Im not sure if the method above is even achievable !!!! does anyone know how i can pass a variable/parameter into my dataset and maybe provide an example off the code.

Hi, I have a matrix report containing a parameter. The count of groups may change based on the parameter's value. Also these groups are connected to each other with toggle property.
For example;
--If the parameter's value is "year", the report have three (year, month, day) groups.Day is connected to month and month is connected to year with toggle property.
--If the parameter's value is "month", the report have two (month, day) groups.Day is connected to month with toggle property.
--If the parameter's value is "day", the report have one (day) group. There will be no toggle property.
The question is:
I wrote expressions for this report and set the visibility properties of the groups, but when I select the "day" or "month" value for the parameter, no groups are shown.I think the reason is "being connected to each other with toggle property".
How can I solve this?

Hello All,
I am trying to set parameter in reporting services that lets the user select "All Hours" or "Cour Hours" of the day in a given date range.
Core hours would filter the transactions (and aggregations) that happened between 6am and 10pm on certain days and another range of hours on some days. The days that the core hours exist will be static. i.e. every day the core hours are 6am to 10pm but on Mondays the core hours are Midnight to 2am and then 6am to 11:59:59.
I am trying to figure out what that code would look like. Any help is appreciated.

Hi,
Is there any work around to passing a set of strings to a parameter in a Typed Dataset for example I am pasing '4226222172004','4212012182004' which I build on my code the number of items will vary passed on the user selection but since the Typed Dataset uses sp_executesql and the parameters are change to '''4226222172004'',''4212012182004'''
Any ideas how I can format the Parameter I am passing.so that it will end like where in ( '4226222172004','4212012182004') instead of where in ('''4226222172004'',''4212012182004''') I again the number of parameters will very.

Let me simplify. The value of my dataset field Dimension_1 is
[SOB Year].[Yr Id].[Yr Id].[MEMBER_CAPTION]
I want to use parameters for SOB Year and Yr Id like I do on the query.
But if I use
="["& Parameters!dimension_1_table.Value &"].["& Parameters!dimension_1_column.Value &"].[" & ["& Parameters!dimension_1_column.Value &"]"
it returns null for the values. I don't know how to make these parameters
I am passing in parameters for the table and column to build an MDX query here is my query.
="SELECT NON EMPTY { [Measures].[Liability Amt] } ON COLUMNS, NON EMPTY { (["& Parameters!dimension_1_table.Value &"].["& Parameters!dimension_1_column.Value &"].["& Parameters!dimension_1_column.Value &"].ALLMEMBERS ) } DIMENSION PROPERTIES MEMBER_CAPTION, MEMBER_UNIQUE_NAME ON ROWS FROM [SOB Clean] CELL PROPERTIES VALUE, BACK_COLOR, FORE_COLOR, FORMATTED_VALUE, FORMAT_STRING, FONT_NAME, FONT_SIZE, FONT_FLAGS"
Anyone know what value I need to use on the dataset field to access the column?
Thanks,

Hello
I get the following error in a very quick test system i created:
An error occurred during local report processing.
An error has occurred during report processing.
Cannot set the command text for data set 'test'.
Error during processing of the CommandText expression of dataset 'test'.
My sql is:
= "select T.testid, T.test from test T " & Iif(Parameters!test1.Value = 1, "", "Where T.testid = " & Parameters!test1.Value)
There is nothing obviously wrong in the code as far as i can see
The parameter 'test1' is of type 'string'
The database 'test' has 2 columns of type 'smallint' and 'Name:nvarchar(50)'
I am at a loss, as this query is really simple, and is similar to the example query set up my microsoft which works fine

I have a rectangle region in a report that contains a graph and a table. I want to display that list region only when the user selects a "Select All" from a multi-select report parameter. This rectangle region is used only to display summary data for All Agencies.
My report also contains a list region with graphs and tables, where I display data for each agency (my detail group), and page-break on each agency.
The problem I am experiencing occurs when using the Expression Builder for the Visibility property for my rectangle and list regions. Since a multi-select parameter is an array, I am forced to select an element in my paramater such as =Parameters!Agency.Value(0). When the user chooses "(Select All)", the first element is the first agency in the list. I don't want that.
How can I get Reporting Services to display a rectangle or list region when "Select All" is chosen, and to hide that rectangle or list region when one or more agencies are chosen from a multi-select parameter?
I have tried using Agency.Label and I've tried other expressions such as Parameters!Agency.Count = Count(Agency.Value), etc, without success.

Hello,
I am attempting to create a cascading parameter.
Parameter's 1 & 2 are multi-valued.
Datasets 1 & 2 supply Parameter's 1 & 2.
The values for Parameter 1 as derived from Dataset 1 are 'A', 'B', 'C', 'D' and 'E'.
The potential values for Parameter 2 will only be created if value 'C' is amongst the multiple values selected for Parameter 1.
Thus I need to write my query for Dataset 2 so that it can check the values of Parameter 1 for the existence of 'C' otherwise it returns nothing.
What is the best practice for a dataset referencing the values of a multi-valued parameter in order to generate it's resultset?
Any help is appreciated.

It's been a while since I used Reporting Services so I'm sure this is really straight forward. Basically I have the following report parameters:
reportMonth - Just a non-queried list of months for the user to select
reportYear - Generated using the following query from dataset "Years":
declare @curYear int
set @curYear = 2000
declare @yearTable table (repYear int not null)
while @curYear <= year(getdate())
begin
insert into @yearTable(repYear) values (@curYear)
set @curYear = @curYear + 1
end
select * from @yearTable
This generated a list like:
2000
2001
2002
etc.
I then have a 2nd dataset "Main" which I'd like to use both the reportMonth and reportYear parameters in once they've been generated. How do I go about setting this up and referencing the parameters? I've tried a few things but nothing seems to be working.
Thanks

Hi all,
hope anyone can help me on this one.
I have a parameterized report based on a MDX query (so no drag and drop of filters and fields).
Now i have to ad a parameter. So i open the query parameter dialog box and i ad my parameter.
when i click ok , my dataset becomes empty , resulting in an error on my report saying that the fields on the report cannot by found and should be in the scope of the dataset.
Has anyone experienced this problem before, or am i forgetting something here?
thanks in advance

I need to use a non-queried report parameter to filter a dataset for a report.
The dataset column I'm filtering is numeric. The dataset is not a sproc, it's a table in SQL Server that I am querying.
The Non-queried parameter values (Multi-value) are 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, >=6.
Selecting the >=6 throws the error: "Error converting data type nvarchar to numeric."
Which sucks.
Because...when I go straight into my dataset I can filter my numeric column with the exact same values (=1 or =3 or >=6) and everything works fine. The error is only raised when I use the @Parameter in the dataset.
I've tried eveything, researched everywhere online and I can't find any guidance anywhere.
