How Can I Store Data In One Row Instead Of 10 Rows?

Jan 1, 2007

Hi

I have this stored procedure using Table Variable.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

create procedure sp_matching @pid Int

AS
declare @tbl table (MAID int, image varchar(100))

insert @tbl
select MAID, image from products
where pid in (select top 10 mid from matching1 where pid=@pid order by newid())

select * from @tbl

GO

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When I run this sp, i have table with 10 rows. But what I really need to do is to store all data in one row like:

PID, MAID1, Image1, MAID2, Image2, ..... MAID9, Image9, MAID10, Image10

How can I do this? Please help me out for this.

Thanks.

Store Procedure Does Not Return All Rows Sometimes, Slow Execution...!!!

Oct 14, 2007

Dear friends,I have a problem with a simple select statement and I don't know why it is happening.I have 2 tables, Fees and FeesDataRoles. Fees presents all the fees and FeesDataRole is a middle table between Fees and Roles table. So each fee can have multiple Roles and a Role can have many Fees.Now I have a select statement:Select    *From     Fees Inner Join FeesDataRoles ON Fees.FeeID = FeesDataRoles.FeeIDWhere  (FeesDataRoles.DataRoleID = @DataRoleID) AND (FeesDataRoles.RecordStatus = 1 ) AND (FeesDataRoles.ValidFrom >= getdate() ) AND ( FeesDataRoles.ValidTo <= getdate() OR FeesDataRoles.ValidTo is null)Now it shouldn't take that long to execute this procedure but surprisingly sometimes when I insert a value to the table and then execute this store procedure it does now show the data just added. Very strange.....!!!!I ran the procedure 5 times after inserting an item and nearly 1 out of 5 does not return the right result righ. ( It does not include the recently inserted rows)Anyone have any idea....?I used Tuning Advisor, no sugestion. I change the clustered index in FeesDataRoles from FeesDataRoleID(the primary key of the table) to DataRoleID to increase the performance, still it happens sometimes.Is my Where clause so costly that cause this problem.Please help. I really appreciate your help.Regards,Mehdi

Transform To Remove Rows From Data Set A That Match Rows In Data Set B On A Given Key?

Jun 28, 2006

Hi,

I have a common requirement in numerous SSIS processes to take my main input data set and to remove all rows from it that match a second input data set on a given key and output this as the main output. I also want to output (as a second output) all the rows from the main input data set that did match on the given key. However, I don't want to merge in data from the second input, nor am I interested in rows from the second input data set that have no match in the main input.

E.g. If I have the following data:

Main input:
Key Name
--- ----
1 Steve
2 Jamie
3 Donald

Second Input
Key DontCareAboutThisField1
--- -----------------------
1 ...
3 ...
4 ...

Then I would like the following output:

Main Output
Key Name
--- ----
2 Jamie

Second Output
Key Name
--- ----
1 Steve
3 Donald

Can I do this with a standard transform, or will I have to write my own? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance,

Lawrie

SQL Server 2012 :: Calendar Style Report With 12 Months (as Columns) And Store Opening Listing In Rows

Oct 16, 2014

I am trying to create a calendar style report that will have 12 months (as columns) and store opening listing in rows. I have created a matrix, but the problem that I have is that the store opening listing displays in the right period, but they are not in any order. I would like to have the openings always on top, right under the header in the matrix. Now I have them scattered randomly all over the matrix. I tried numerous way of sorting and that does not work.

I am attaching a sample of what I would like to accomplish (months are columns).

Arranging Data On Multiple Rows Into A Sigle Row (converting Rows Into Columns)

Dec 25, 2005

Hello,
I have a survey (30 questions) application in a SQL server db. The application uses several relational tables. The results are arranged so that each answer is on a seperate row:
user1   answer1user1   answer2user1   answer3user2   answer1user2   answer2user2   answer3
For statistical analysis I need to transfer the results to an Excel spreadsheet (for later use in SPSS). In the spreadsheet I need the results to appear so that each user will be on a single row with all of that user's answers on that single row (A column for each answer):
user1   answer1   answer2   answer3user2   answer1   answer2   answer3
How can this be done? How can all answers of a user appear on a single row
Thanx,Danny.

Using SSIS 2005 To Strip Out Bad Rows In Excel And Then Insert Detailed Rows Into OLE DB Data Source

Apr 6, 2006

Environment:

Running this code on my PC via VS 2005
.Net version 2.0.50727 on the server (shown in IIS)
Code is in ASP.NET 2.0 and is a VB.NET Console application
SSIS 2005

Problem & Info:

I am bringing in an Excel file.  I need to first strip out any non-detail rows such as the breaks you see with totals and what not.  I should in the end have only detail rows left before I start moving them into my SQL Table.  I'm not sure how to first strip this information out in SSIS specfically how down to the right component and how to actually code the component to do this based on my Excel file here: http://www.webfound.net/excelfile.xls

Then, I assume I just use a Flat File Source coponent or something to actually take the columns in the Excel and split into an OLE DB Datasource to shove each column into a corresponding column in my SQL Server Table.  I have used a Flat File Source in the past to do so with a comma delimited txt file but never tried with an Excel.

Desired Help:

How to perform

1)       stripping out all undesired rows
2)       importing each column into sql table

Asp.net Page Is Unable To Retrieve The Right Data Calling The Store Procedure From The Dataset/data Adapter

Apr 11, 2007

I'm trying to figure this out
 I have a store procedure that return the userId if a user exists in my table, return 0 otherwise
------------------------------------------------------------------------
 Create Procedure spUpdatePasswordByUserId
@userName varchar(20),
@password varchar(20)
AS
Begin
Declare @userId int
Select @userId = (Select userId from userInfo Where userName = @userName and password = @password)
if (@userId > 0)
return @userId
else
return 0
------------------------------------------------------------------
I create a function called UpdatePasswordByUserId in my dataset with the above stored procedure that returns a scalar value. When I preview the data from the table adapter in my dataset, it spits out the right value.
But when I call this UpdatepasswordByUserId from an asp.net page, it returns null/blank/0
 passport.UserInfoTableAdapters oUserInfo = new UserInfoTableAdapters();
Response.Write("userId: " + oUserInfo.UpdatePasswordByUserId(txtUserName.text, txtPassword.text) );
 Do you guys have any idea why?

ETL: OLTP -&> DATA Store

Jul 23, 2005

Greetings All, I was wondering if any of you would share some of yourexperiences regarding the task of loading a data store from an Oltpsource. We are using Analysis Services in a BI product that requiresdata to be pulled from one of our products, an OLTP database. Thedesign is to first run an ETL process from the OLTP source into anoperational data store, from here Analysis Services will pull its datato do its thing. Now, for small OLTP databases (< 1Gb) the storedprocs I have written to do the extraction works well, it is relativelyfast and efficient. However, we have a few databases that are 10Gb'sand the load could end up taking several hours. During this long loadthe OLTP source may be in use and I want to avoid write blocks, or if Iwere to use "select ... NOLOCK" I could get dirty data brought over. Icould used BCP for some of the big tables or Bulk Copy but I wanted tosee if anyone has dealt with this issue and what their specificresolution was for their specific problem. It is my hope that byseeing how others have dealt with this I will be able to architect asolution for my specific problemRegards, TFD.

hi,

i learned that BLOB data types are out-row data by default, i think it means it will not store in the row of table, because the max-length of a col is 8KB.

but will the system store those BLOB data? and is there any way to specify where should it be stored, like tha Partition Schema.

i am using SQL Express, so i hope it works for express.(partition does not work for express)

Store Data Horizontally Or Vertically?

Nov 11, 2005

My project is to automate testing of Stored Proceduresof type SELECT (at least for now).I want to create a table where each stored procedure'sinput parameter values are entered and in another tablethe expected result value(s) are entered when executedagainst a sample database containing manually enteredand verified data.My current problem is that the stored procedures' inputparameters range from none to 50 parameters (ok nowthat I think of it maybe this SP with 50 parameters is anINSERT SP; regardless let's assume I have SPs thatrequire 10-20-30+ parameters).My other problem is each stored procedures' returnedresult could fall into any of these four categories:- 1 row, 1 column- 1 row, many columns- many rows, 1 column- many rows, many columnsSo far I thought about 3 ways of storing the data:1- 1 large table with 50 columns that can hold variousnumber of input parameter values. Similar type of table forholding the output result for the four categories above.2- 1 small table holding one value per row. All kinds of joinswith other tables to indicate which SP and which column thevalue belongs to...3- 1 individual table per stored procedure, this way the numberof columns in the table would match exactly the number of inputparameters.Obviously the above 3 categories could apply both for the inputand output data.Now I'm still in research mode and I haven't decided on any choiceyet. And I know each approach has serious consequences; let's justsay they are all with some limitations.Has anyone dealt with this scenario before? This is the first time Ineed a table to hold various types of returned data.Just to give some numbers: possibly a few thousand SPs and verylikely each SP would have more than one test scenario.What would you suggest?Thank you
