How Can I Add A General Function Module In A Report Project?
Apr 10, 2008
Can i share a function module to all the reports in a report project, that i can use the functions in the formating or expressions. Is there any way to add a assembly reference to the project and can include all the functions in an assembly file?
I can pass a parameter from an Access Query to an Access Report (MDB) by entering [Select Date] in the Query criteria and by placing an unbound control with a control source =[Select Date] on the report. I can't get this to work from a SQL Function Criteria to an unbound control on the Access Data Project Report. In the Function Criteria, I enter @SelectDate. In the Report control, I enter @SelectDate and it gives me an 'Invalide Column Name' error. Any idea how I can pass a parameter from a SQL Function to an ADP report?
THANKS!
p.s. I tried searching for other postings on this without any luck.
Hello, I've created a Report Model Project that can be used by Report Builder to generate ad-hoc reports. I'm trying to create a connection string in my Report Server Project that points to the Report Model Project data source view.
All I can do is create a regular datasource, which bypasses the metadata contained in the Data Source View.
Basically I want my Report Server Project and my Report Builder reports to leverage the same metadata. Is this possible? If so how do I get the connection string?
Hi all, we currently have an access databse with linked odbc connections to an SQL server database. Performance wise I don't think this is great. Anyone have any general information about doing an upgrade to a micrsoft project database, and what are the pros and cons of access projects compared to Access databases with linked tables. About 30 -40 users currently hammer the access front end during the day.
Is it possible to change the EXECUTE AS principal on a module (such as a stored procedure or function) without having to redefine the entire module in an ALTER statement? I didn't find anything in BOL about it in the ALTER PROCEDURE or ALTER FUNCTION articles. If there is a system sproc that does it, I couldn't find it. Changing system tables is not an option (assuming that is an option) for me.
I have a custom assembly that I wrote. I placed it in the GAC and the report runs fine locally. I placed it on the server in the GAC and it kicks out the following error when deploying:
Error while loading code module: €˜SSRSReporting, Version=1.0.1.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=de4c010eaf2f2fe8€™. Details: Could not load file or assembly 'SSRSReporting, Version=1.0.1.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=de4c010eaf2f2fe8' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified. ....
If I put the file in the /bin directory on the server there is no issues and it works fine. I need to to deploy to the GAC though. I restarted IIS and the RS services. I still have the same issue.
Is there any existing software/trick/hack to create a Report Project from the DataSources and Folders/Reports on a Report Server, i.e. the inverse of Deployment?
Would there be anybody interested in such a thing, and, if not, why not?
Is it possible to poplulate some control like Dropdownlist (for example, with Product names Or Product Ids) from database table in SSRS project type and then filter report by choosing various choice pre-populated in dropdownlist control.
Project Type is : SQL Server Reportings 2005.
Desired Action: Report will run in browser, User will choose specific product and Run the report(filter) to show that product relate results.
Hi, I wnat to write a single function in code behind file for all DML operation, and i just want to pass query string in its parameter. but when ever my whole project will use this function to insert, update and delete. what will be the performance. bool DMLoperation(string str) {
obj.conn = new SqlConnection(obj.connstring); obj.cmd = new SqlCommand(str,obj.conn); obj.conn.Open(); try { if(obj.cmd.ExecuteNonQuery() > 0) { obj.conn.Close(); return true; } else { obj.conn.Close(); return false; } } catch { obj.conn.Close(); return false; } } I am totally confused about performance, is it good idea or worst ?.
For some reason in a Team Foundation Team Project that has multiple project types (SSRS, SSIS, WebSite, C# Business DLL...), the SSIS project makes itself the startup project to the team project. If I explicitly set another project as the startup project to the team project and then select an SSIS package in the SSIS project in the team project, the SSIS project becomes the startup project automatically.
I am sure many people faced this problem before. I want to drill-through to a report in another project. I want to use "Jump to report" in the navigation tab.
I am able to use Jump to URL. But I cound not specify "method="post" target="_self" in the "Jump to URL" box.
Can some one help me on how to use:
1. "Jump to Report" for reports in another project.
2. Or. Help me specify method="post" target="_self"
I have a Report Server Project in my visual studio.net, To deploy the reports on target it is not possible to use deploy option on production. I need to build a MSI setup for my ReportServerProject.
What are the steps should be done to build a setup for the Report Server Project?
When I try to convert a report project from 2005, it seems to convert fine but then the project closes because VS2008 doesn't support that project type (.rptproj ?). I see that there is a report project type under VB (and I assume C#) but there is no Business Intelligence project catagory. It's a new machine and I did install SQL Server 2005 before VS2008.
I'm in the process of moving a bunch of projects and websites from another machine and got hung up on this one. Any pointers greatly appreciated.
is it possible to create a report server project template ? This project must have 2 datasources and 1 specific report I wanted to use the Export Template, but it isn't available. I can only use it in Developpement Studio not in BIDS.
Hi, when I try to open up an existing report project in VS 2005 then open the report template it will guide me to the Layout tab. Once I change the tab to Data, the following error showed up with an OK button:
TITLE: Microsoft Report Designer ------------------------------
The data extension SQL was not found in the configuration file RSReportDesigner.config. Add the extension to the configuration file before proceeding or choose another data extension.
------------------------------
I tried creating a new dataset on the Data tab, the "Command Type" section use to have 2 selection: Text and Storeprocedure type. But now the Storeprocedure type is missing. I tried uninstall VS 2005 & SQL Server 2005 Components and reinstall them the same error still occurs.
I have no idea how to solve it, anyone encounter the same problem or able to help out please do so. Thanks in advance.
I am trying to deploy my report model project to remote server which is our QA environment using Visual Studio. In my Project Property I have set the Traget Data source folder and model folder and URL. But I am getting this error any idea??? =================================== A connection could not be made to the report server "ReportServer URL for my remote server" . (Microsoft Semantic Model Designer) =================================== Client found response content type of '', but expected 'text/xml'. The request failed with an empty response. (Microsoft.ReportingServices.SemanticQueryDesign) ------------------------------ Program Location: at Microsoft.SqlServer.ReportingServices2005.RSConnection.GetSecureMethods() at Microsoft.SqlServer.ReportingServices2005.RSConnection.IsSecureMethod(String methodname) at Microsoft.SqlServer.ReportingServices2005.RSConnection.GetItemType(String Item) at Microsoft.ReportingServices.ModelDesigner.Project.ReportServiceClient.GetItemType(String item) at Microsoft.ReportingServices.ModelDesigner.Project.ReportServiceClient.CheckAuthorized() at Microsoft.ReportingServices.ModelDesigner.Project.ModelClientManager.GetCredentials(String url) at Microsoft.ReportingServices.ModelDesigner.Project.ModelProjectDeployer.PrepareDeploy()
What kind of permission/role do I need to have inorder to deploy report model project on to the server. I am able to deploy same project on my local machine using visual studio.
Please tell me how to create Data Source and Data Source View in Report Model Project for OLAP Cube.Whats the provider to use while creating Data Source in Report Model Project to make connection to OLAP Cube.
I've gotten to the point of publishing the new reports on the SSRS server and have run into the following problem.
I use a field in the primary report with the "Go to report" action to open up another report (also published) for more details. It works properly from within ReportBuilder (2.0) using the report server and I can go to and from the secondary report as I expect. Its passing the correct parameters to the second report and its runs.
But when I use the reports from the SSRS web, the Go To link no longer works. Mouse hover shows its still a link but clicking goes no where. I can run both reports independently from SSRS and they still work. Â
I've tried this in IE and Chrome with no luck in either. I also poked around at Compatability view and popup blocker but nothing made any difference.
I desperately need to setup the AD-HOC reporting on SQL server 2005. I think one of the templates that I need is in Business Intelligent Project Templets Reporting Model Template in Visual Studio Templates.
But I do not see it in there. Can some one please let me know where can I get the Reporting Model Template, or a link to where I can download or how to create it.
I have an existing project with the data source and report folder with working reports. I need to create a model for other department members to use Report Builder, not Business Intelligence Developer Studio, to develop their reports from. How do I add a data source view and report model folder to the project so I can then create a view and model?
Adding a value to a non-queried default report parameter value does not update on the target server after deployment.
To recreate
1. Create a report in Visual Studio and add a report parameter with the following properties:
Multi-value is checked Available values = "From Query" Dataset = [create a dataset that returns a table w/ a Id and Description column] Value field = [the Id field from the table] Label field=[the Description column from the table] Default values = "Non-queried" (add several values the match the IDs from the table so that some of the values in the report dropdown will show up as checked when rendering the report)
2. Build and deploy the report to the reporting server. View the report and verify the specified items are checked in the report parameter.
3. Go back to Visual Studio and add a value to the Non-queried Default values.
4. Build and deploy the report again. View the report. The newly added item is not selected.
Notes
I verified that the newly added ID exists in the rdl file (as xml) on both the development box and the server where the report was deployed. However, when I view the report parameter using Management Studio (connect to the reporting server), the newly added value for the report parameter does not exist. I verified that changes are being deployed by adding new parameters and changing other properties of the parameter. I thought maybe the rdl itself was being cached somehow - I tried restarting IIS, SQL Server, and SQL Reporting services. None worked. Note that running the report on the development box by running the project through Visual Studio DOES reflect the change to the parameter.
Work-arounds
1. Create a dataset for the report that returns a table of the Ids that you want pre-selected. The query could be something like this:
SELECT '4' AS SelectedId UNION SELECT '5' AS SelectedId UNION SELECT '6' AS SelectedId
2. Delete the report in Management Studio, then redeploy.
I have issue w/ both workarounds because for 1) it is not intuitive and you have to remember to do this for every similar case, and 2) this extra step has to occur each time the report is deployed w/ changes to the report parameter.
Hi every body! Please help me! Thank you very much.
Hi I have picked up the same problem that quite a few folks have identified.
I have created a SSRS Solution and have a report which I am trying to deploy to the Report Manager. The project 'builds' locally but when I try to deploy it, a User Login Box pops up.
Has any one been able to ascertain what causes the problem and how does one go about resolving the problem. I am using Window Authentication on WIndows XP SP2 with SQL Server 2005 Developers Edition and Visual Studio 2005 Professional I have not 'tinkered' with IIS,.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. regards Steve
I am not sure if this is possible or not, but I have to at least ask.
I have a SQL Reporting Services project that has a QA server version and then a Production server version. So when requested changes are made to the reports, I make the changes in Visual Studio and then push to QA. After the changes have been tested and approved, I then push the changes to the Production server.
I have come across an issue, where requested changes were made in Visual Studio (a lot of changes), and pushed to QA. The users now have changed their minds and they want instead to stay with what is in production. So, I am looking for a way to recover the report file on the production web server, bring it back into my visual studio project to replace the report that I had changed.
Is this possible, or will I have to start over and step one and reverse the changes in Visual Studio.
okay so pretty much I am using the asp.net 2.0 membership/roles.i wanna make a search box that users can type in a name and it will search the database. most likely in the table "aspnet_Users"so when users search i want it to be like this:cmd = select * from [table] WHERE username = textbox1.text (ofcourse with parameters instead of concatenation).but i want it to have a "like" in thereso if the users type in "fenix" they should get results matching CLOSE to fenix. so masfenix, fenix, fenxi, and you know related names. that are similar. should I use LIKE? and if so HOW do i use that?is it just gonna becmd = select * from [table] where Username LIKE @username@username = textbox1.text ?thanks
Hello everyone! This is my first post so please bear with me. We haverecently re-vamped an Access application such that in each of our 5locationsa local SQL server receives published updates from our main office server.Remote servers also send their local updates to the master and they are inturn propogated to all of the other remote servers. The new design worksgreat except for one annoying bug we have been chasing for two weeks:"Faulting application msaccess.exe, version 9.0.0.2719, faulting modulemso9.dll, version 9.0.0.2720, fault address 0x0007ee2d." When a user getstheerror, they hit close and it terminates Access. If they move the error offthe screen and continue working the application continues. They havediscovered this and have been doing so but the fact that the error appearsmust be fixed. If anyone can point me in the right direction it would bemuchly appreciated. Thanks in advance!- Markmweber_at_warrenlumber_dot_com
I have been working on some SSIS packages for a while now and today while i was working i was trying to create a new connection and in the process there was an error and it said the BIDS has to be closed and i closed it but later when i open BIDS and try to open my project(.sln) from the file menu to work on the half done package it pops up an error which shows the path to my project location on the first line and next statement on the pop up error box says:
"Make Sure the application for the project type (.dtproj) is installed."
I tried to check some forums in which some suggested to try installing SP1 which i tried but ..i dont know why but the SP1 fails to install (i dont know if its causing problem becoz i already installed SP2 as i had some other problem before for which the cure was to install SP2).
Did anyone here face such a problem before ?
I'd really appreciate if the experts here can tell a cure for this problem.
I have a Visual Studio 2005 solution which contains a Sql Server Integration Services (SSIS) project.
In this solution I have explicitly set a Web application project as startup project, but whenever I edit a DTS package within the SSIS project, VS automatically sets the SSIS project as startup project and the package I edit as startup object.
Needless to say, this may cause some really unwanted incidents when running the solution - thinking that you're about to run the Web application project (that was explicitly set as startup project), but instead, you run the edited package in the SSIS project.
Is there any way to avoid having the SSIS project automatically setting itself as startup project, any workaround here at all? :)
