Hi,
My Problem goes Like this....
I have a folder which contains all the flat files which are used by all the packages(ex--flat file connection managers) in my project.
If we want to change the name of the folder(or)move the folder(path may change),have to change in every package( in all connection managers) manually.It looks hardcoding and timetaking.
Is there any way to change in one place(xml,file,variable) so that it should be affected in all the packages.

Hi All,
I have a challenge i am trying to overcome, hopefully soneone would have come across this issue before..
I am creating a DTS package that will be scheduled to run at a certain time everyday. A source folder exists that get a set of new files everyday.The DTS Package will then read each file and copy the data into a load table in my database the challenge is this:
I am trying to load files from a source folder into my load table, Within each file, the entires are in a specific format using pipes to seperate the data that goes into which column e.g
example of a file entry:
column1 | column2 | column3
data1 | data2 | data3
data1 | data2 | data3
data1 | data2 | data3
And now i am using DTS to specify the file format and map the cloumns as apprporiate to my table...all this is well and good, but my problem is each file has a different name as well as being timestamped, now how do i use DTS to specify the source folder, open each file sequentially and read (or more appropriate, copy the entries into my table, inserting new data from each file into my load table as well as overwriting old data in the load table from the files in the folder ?) is there a way in specifying your source folder in DTS rather than specifying the file in the Menu options (in the transformation data task properties )given, and or do i need to write a script for this(reading the file?)
can someone please give me a solution and how to approach this?

If we configure the flat file connection manager in package configurations,configuration file (ex-xml)will be created (we can make changes in that file regarding that connecion mgr only.)
But i want one configuration file (ex--xml) so that i should configure the details of all the connection managers used in all packages.

I dont alot about sql server 2005(Express edition). For debugging purposes i want to copy the whole app_data folder(.mdf & .log files) on the production server to another folder on the same machine(or sometimes to a network folder). So when i copy and try to paste this App_data folder to a new location, i get this error message
"cannot copy ASPNETDB: it is being used by another person or program. close any programs that might be using the file and try again."
After reading the above message, i close visual web developer, stop the website in IIS and stop the SQLExpress service on the server and try again but still get the same message.
So how can i make sure that all the programs accessing these database files are closed such that i'm able able to copy them to a different location.

I know a WMI event watcher can be used to watch for a new file being added to a folder. However, I need to check for new folders being added to an existing folder. I haven't been able to find a post on doing this. Is there a way in WQL to check for a new folder being added instead of a new file? I've used SQL for years, but am new to SSIS.

Ok,
I have a network folder called A
I have a SharePoint (2007) Document Library site called B. Web Client is enabled on the server and B is mapped as a Drive (let's call it Y for this discussion)
I want to move documents in A to B. Easy enough, right? Not so....
I first started by creating a batch file that issues a COPY \A \Y /Y at the command prompt. Viola! Worked Great!
I then moved that command to a SQL Agent job as a CMDExec statement (exact same statement) and attempted to run it.....CRASH! It found the files in A but then said "The system cannot find the path specified"
Ok, so I tried it in SSIS. CRASH! Checked the error log. Same thing...
So I then checked the account under which the SQl Agent was running (special domain account for all our SQL Servers). Thinking it might mater I changed it to run under my name (I'm in Domain admin). I also ensured I had permissions to the SPS 2007 library as well. (I did).
Ran again! CRASH! Same error....
So, I created a batch file , placed thec ommand in the batch file and ran that from the command prompt! Viola! Worked Great.
So, I was thinking of how ingenious I was as I pasted my C:RootCopy.bat into my SQL Agent job. With a big grin on my face I right clicked and picked "Start Job at step".......CRASH! Same error.
Does anyone have any ideas on this ???????????????

I have a set of folders with the following structure:
MainFolder
1999
SpreadsheetA.xls
SpreadsheetB.xls
SpreadsheetC.xls
2000
SpreadsheetA.xls
SpreadsheetB.xls
SpreadsheetC.xls
etc.
Is there a way that I can use the foreach loop container to loop the sub folders? My plan was to get the folder name and path into a variable, use this to build the connection string for each file in this folder, carry out the upload for that folder, then move onto the next folder and do the same thing, but I cannot see a way to do this.

I am having problem with moving a file from one folder to another folder. Here is the detailed scenario:
I want to move a input.csv file from shared input folder to shared archive folder. i am using the below code to do this.
declare @inpath varchar(100)
SET @inpath = 'move "\abcdefINPUTinput*.csv" "\abcdefARCHIVEarchive.csv"'
EXEC @filestatus = master..xp_cmdshell @inpath
but the problem was it was cutting the input.csv file from INPUT folder but not pasting it in the ARCHIVE folder.
I really appreciate if anyone can help me to solve this or anyone can tell some workarounds.

And even the number of columns are not static. It depends upon the range of date selected by the user.
I wanted to know, if there is a way to import Excel sheet using Integration Services by defining the position
Of column, instead of column name and I am not sure if there is a way for me to import excel with dynamic
Number of columns.

Hi Anthony, I am glad the Web cast was helpful.
Kamal and I have both moved on to other teams in MSFT and I am a little rusty in that area, though in general dynamic numbers of columns in any format is always tricky. I am just assuming its not feasible for you to try and get the source for SSIS a little closer to home, e.g. rather than using Excel output from Reporting Services, use the same/some form of the query/data source that RS is using.
I suggest you post a question on the SSIS forum on MSDN and you should get some good answers.

Hi,
I have a need to display on screen AND email a pdf report to email addresses specified at run time, executing the report with a parameter specified by the user. I have looked into data driven subscriptions, but it seems this is based on scheduling. Unfortunately for the majority of the project I will only have access to SQL 2005 Standard Edition (Production system is Enterprise), so I cannot investigate thoroughly.
So, is this possible using data driven subscriptions? Scenario is:
1. User enters parameter used for query, as well as email addresses.
2. Report is generated and displayed on screen.
3. Report is emailed to addresses specified by user.
Any tips on how to get this working?

If anyone could confirm...
SQL Server 2000 SP4 to multiple SQL Server 2005 Mobile Edition on PDAs. My DB on SQL2k is published with a single dynamic row filter using host_name() on my 'parent' table and also join filters from parent to child tables. The row filter uses joins to other tables elsewhere that are not published to evaluate what data is allowed through the filter.
E.g. Published parent table that contains suppliers names, etc. while child table is suppliers' products. The filter queries host_name(s) linked to suppliers in unpublished table elsewhere.
First initial sync with snapshot is correct and as I expected - PDA receives only the data from parent (and thus child tables) that matches the row filter for the host_name provided.
However - in my scenario host_name <--> suppliers may later be updated E.g. more suppliers assigned to a PDA for use or vice versa. But when I merge the mobile DB, the new data is not downloaded? Tried re-running snapshot, etc., no change.
Question: I thought the filters would remain dynamic and be applied on each sync?
I run a 'harmless' update on parent table using TSQL e.g. "update table set 'X' = 'X'" and re-sync. Now the new parent records are downloaded - but the child records are not!
Question: I wonder why if parent records are supplied, why not child records?
If I delete existing DB and sync new, I get the updated snapshot and all is well - until more data added back at server...
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Is it possible (or not) to have dynamic filters run during second or subsequent merge?

I have tried building an Inline TVF, as I assume this is how it would be used on the DB; however, I am receiving the following error on my code, I must be missing a step somewhere, as I've never done this before. I'm lost on how to implement this clr function on my db?

I have a Stored Procedure for processing a Bill of Material.
One column on the Assembly Table is a Function Name that contains some busniess rules.
OK, now I'm doing a Proof of Concept and I'm stumped.
Huuuuh!
I will ultimately have about 100 of these things. My plan was using Dynamic SQL to go execute the function.
Note: The function just returns a bit.

Remote connections are on , server BRowser starts automatically ... for example from remote machinne I mean from Server where SQL is installed I can connect to SQL ... FireWall i've turned off.... I have a requirment which i have partly accomplished , but could not get through completely
i have a file which comes in a standard format ending with date and seq number ,
suppose , the file name is abc_yyyymmdd_01 , for first copy , if it is copied more then once the sequence number changes to 02 and 03 and keep going on .
then i need to transform those in to new file comma delimited destination file with a name abc_yyyymmdd,txt and others counting file counting record abc_count_yyyymmdd.txt. and move it to a designated folder. and the source file is then moved to archived folder
what i have taken apprach is
script task select source file --------------------> data flow task------------------------------------------> script task to destination file
dataflow task -------------------------> does count and copy in delimited format
what is happening here is i can accomlish a regular source file convert it to delimited destination file --------> and move it to destination folder with script task .
but cannot work the dynamic pick of a source file.
please advise with your comments or solution you have

Hi, I got a website and everything works fine with SQL Server 2000, but now I modified the way of authentication using Forms and when I enter in a protected area I got this error:
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server.When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by thefact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remoteconnections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could notopen a connection to SQL Server)
The problem is that I don´t have SQL Server 2005 installed so I don´t know why my webapp is trying to contact it, where I can configure this settings so it will look for the Server that exists?

In my DAL, I have 3 tables -
Footballer (FootballerID = Primary Key)
Aspnet Membership Table (UserID=Primary Key)
Favourite Footballers (Junction Table with 2 Primary Keys FootballerID and UserID - both with foreign relationships to their respective data table)
On my sports site, visitors can view various footballers and store their favourites in th FavouriteFootballers Table by clicking on a button.
This stores the Logged in UserID and FootballerID in the junction table.
I now need to write a select query that allows users to click a link and view their favourites which they stored - lets say in a data list on another aspx page.
This would include other columns from the Footballer Table such as Name, Age, Profile ect
I think I am right in that I need to use a Select clause as I am using SQl data adapters in the DAL.
Be very pleased if someone knows how to contruct the query and give me an example how to code a method in the BLL

I am really having a hard time creating a parameter for the RadioButtonList radSearchField. I want to type 's' in the text the choose the column for the query to execute the Select statement. I was able to create a parameter for the txtSearchText but can't get the radSearchField working.
My form contains four objects.
Textbox to perform the query. (name: txtSearchText)

So that information entered via Access forms can be stored in sql and reports can be generated using sql tables..

I cannot create a Distribution Server on SQL Server 2005 SP1. When I right click on Replication and click "Configure Distribution" and hour glass appears for a minute, and then nothing happens.
I get the same result if I try to create a publication.
Any suggestions on what to do?

I have installed SP2 on my SQL 2005 instance which also houses RS of course. Additionally I installed WSS3.0 without configuring it so it has the Object Model installed (should be enough?)
I am running WSS 3.0 on a seperate Server and have the Add-in installed on there.
Following the installation instructions I am going to Application Management to configure WSS, but there is no section called "Reporting Services". Looking on the Report Server, in the Configuration I see the following error under the SharePoint Integration Setting:
The report server cannot access settings in the SharePoint configuration database. Most likely, the Windows SharePoint Services object model is not installed or the Report Server Web Service and Windows service accounts do not have access to SharePoint databases. To configure service account access, use SharePoint Central Administration.
In my SharePoint Site I do see a SharePoint section under the "Site Settings" for managing shared schedules but I think the main issue is, that I don't see that section in Central Administration.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

We have an 8gb SQL server running Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition that simply will not get above 3gb of memory usage. We are using SQL 2000 Enterprise edition, version 2040 - SP4. My boot.ini has been configured with /3gb /PAE. System Properties does list Physical Address Extension as being enabled. AWE is enabled, and has been verified in the SQL server logs. Lock pages in memory access has been given to the account SQL is started under. Under task manager, the process sqlservr.exe does not grow above 2,762,428 ish. Does anyone know why this is occuring?

I've been working on a WinForm application (C#) that connects to a database on an external server. My connection string has always been the following and has always worked:
string strCon = "Data Source=static_ip_address;Initial Catalog=someDatabase;User Id=admin;Password=*****";
The specified credentials are actually the physical server's only and local windows account - admin. Contrary to the fact that specifying a user id and password in the connection string uses SQL Authentication, this is practically Windows Authentication as I haven't configured any roles, logins or users in the database or SQL server instance.
Recently there was a power outage and the server was offline. After going back online, my application can no longer communicate with the server. I even modified the connection string to the following and ran the application on the server itself and it still
won't work:
string strCon = "Data Source=localhost;Initial Catalog=someDatabase;Integrated Security = True";
There's obviously something wrong with the server that prevents it from accepting any incoming SQL connections; even those originating from it. I am able to ping the server and even remotely access it from a different network but no SQL connections are being established.
