In case i have a script file containt tables, functions, ... when i use Query Analyzer to run this file, the result output in a window. Now i want this result output to a file named logfile.txt. How can i do that?

I just want to do it all using SQL Server 2005 query window without having to use some 3rd Party control or software. Is it possible and how? I am using cursor in my SP, according to my condition I might be getting around 600 records all this records to send to text file, I have tried few option some how I am able to create file and I am geeting only the last record in my output file, I want to know how can I append records into output file(text file), If some one can give me some suggestion that will be great.

then when I tried to open the customer.rpt from the c drive I got this error message. I am not sure why this happend

I've come a huge ways with your help and things are getting more and more complicated, but i'm able to figure out a lot of things on my own now thanks to you guys! But now I'm REALLY stuck.
I've created a hierarchal listbox form that drills down From
Product - Colour - Year.
based on the selection from the previous listbox. i want to be able to populate a Grid displaying availability of the selected product based on the selections from the listboxes.
So i've written a stored procedure that selects the final product Id as an INPUT/OUTPUT based on the parameters PRODUCT ID - COLOUR ID - and YEAR ID. This outputs a PRODUCT NUMBER.
I want that product number to be used to populate the grid view. Is there away for me to do this?

I am building this as an expression, but it is not working. I am trying to return the row count into a variable to use later in an update statement. What am I doing wrong? I am using a single row result set. I have one variable defined in my result set. I'm having an issue with the JDBC driver when I execute a stored procedure that both has a return value and also returns a result set. If I attempt to retrieve the return value (registered as an output parameter) after I execute the stored procedure, then any subsequent attempts to retrieve the result set always return null. Is this by design? If I use the result set first and then later get the return value that works; however, in my situation I need to first check the return value before I work on the result set. Am I'm I doing something wrong?

I have the SQL code for one of the select list columns as shown below in the SSRS Data set query level.

The above code when run in SQL displays correctly with zeroes if NULL values are available from the Source tables.Now at the SSRS Report level design I have grouped with more than one values.Even at the expression I have given =Fields!Employee_YTD_Total.Value but report output displays blank In order to evaluate 0 from the SQL result set I even tried equating the values to 0 like = Iif(Fields!Employee_YTD_Total.Value = 0 ,0,Fields!Employee_YTD_Total.Value) but still the report outputs is blank.
Issue/Query : Why it displays blank and I should have this as 0 in the report output to eliminate blank as this would be not appropriate to the end users to validate. What has to be changed either at the SSRS level or at the SQL level.
Is there a way to save a result set directly to a text file?

This query output I wanted in a sqlfile so that I can schedule a batch file or sqlcmd and apply the login detail from the new one inserted in the primary.
I am transferring data from an OLEDB source to a Flat File Destination and I want the column width for all of the output columns to 30 (max width amongst the columns selected), but that is not refected in the Fixed Width Flat File that got created. The outputcolumnwidth seems to be the same as the inputcolumnwidth. Is there any other setting that I am possibly missing or is this a possible defect?

I am trying to create an ssis package with dynamic csv file as output. and out format contains query output.
sample file name:
Unique identifier + query output + systemdate();
The expression is looking like this.
@[User::FilePath] + @[User::FileName] + ".CSV"
-- user filepath is a variable from ssis package. File name is the output from SQL query. using script task i have assigned the values to @[User::FileName] .
When I debugged the script task the value getting properly but same variable am using for Flafile destination. but its not working.

My question is quite simple I think... I am directing the result of my query to an output file my problem is how to set the rowsize of my output file to more than 256 (that is the default maximum)? My query result is quite long per row (assuming one column) in query anlyzer, I can easily adjust the result to more than 256 but the result in the output file is truncated because the ouput is more than 256 characters per row...how can I set (in the code) the length of the row of the result in the output file... thanks for the help... this is quite urgent...

I'm not new to sql server, but making my first experience with xml in sql server 2005.
I have a query like this (based on <Table> with neccessary data):
SELECT TAG, PARENT, <columns...>
FROM <Table>
FOR XML EXPLICIT
This query creates a xml file exactly as i need it when i execute it in Management Studio. Well, with one exception. It does not write the <xml...> tag at the beginning of the xml file. But i'm sure i get that in there somewho else. What i need to do now is get that output to a file on disk. And that's where my problem starts.
I tried SQLCMD within Management Studio, but that doesn't accept the ':XML ON' tag and ignores it. the resulting file written is not usable, as it also contains query summary information.
Any direction would be greatly appreciated!

I have a header row and a footer row and a bunch of detail data I have managed to split up into temp db tables, know i need to know what would I need to do to write the header , detail data and footer to the same file after all my validations have completed , this would be a different file then the one I originally imported all the data from (append to text delimited file).
Idealy I would only like to change the header and footer from the original file.
Any ideas - I am thinking of writing a application that does this for me and just executing it from
SSIS but I would really like to stick with standard SSIS components first before starting to write my own stuff.

In SQL7 Query Analyzer we want the results of a SELECT statement not to be displayed on screen but written to a text file.
We assume that in the tons of sp_ and SET statements there should exist
one where output file can be defined.
