How Do I Change The Default Setting From Connecting To SQL Server 2005?

Hi there!
My provider does not yet support SQL Server 2005, they are still on SQL Server 2000. I put together a very basic login page, but it is crashing everytime I access it because of this problem, and sadly I am not advanced enough as yet to know how to remedy it! Can you help?
Here is the error page, some of it; - Any ideas gratefully received!

Hi,
I have setup a linked server to a DB2 database using "Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers",
the connections works fine i am able to run select queries.
but the number of rows returned from the two following statements are different.
select * from linkedserver...tablename
select count(*) from linkedserver...tablename
e.g. The First statement returns 116 rows, whereas the second query returns count as 144....
I am a bit confused ?????
could anybody think of any possible reasons..

Does anybody know how to achive that?

I have got this created by the wizard for my sqlDataSource. I am able to get data from tables in the default database specified with the DSN.
But I want to go to other database than the default.

I've tried changing the default zoom setting by editing the RSReportServer.config file to include
<Configuration>
<DeviceInfo>
<Zoom>Page Width</Zoom>
</DeviceInfo>
</Configuration>
under the
<Render>
<Extension Name = "HTML4.0" etc.
However, all reports still show up with the zoom setting at 100% on the toolbar.
I stop and restart the Report Server Service and it comes up OK so I know my XML syntax is cool. What am I doing wrong?
This is on a 2005 Report Server. Reports are built in VS2005 Report Designer and deployed to the Report Server directly. Reports are accessed via IE7 browser.

I'm about to go absolutely nuts. I've tried so many things including:
1) Of course making sure Remote connections and both TCP/IP and named pipes are enabled for SQL 2005
2) Verified my connection string works. I even tested it in Enterprise Library using the tool and it connects successfully via windows authentication
3) Made sure of course my logged in user is a member of the administrator group and that my user in SQL 2005 logins has db_owner and full rights to the DB I am connecting to. I also made sure the NT AUTHORITY as well as the 3 sql service users have db_owner rights as well as the adminstrator in the SQL Server logins all have db_owner to the DB
4) Started the SQL Server Browser service, SQL Server DB engine, and SQL Server Agent
5) Made sure my site is setup right in IIS 7. I checked the connection string in there as well as it shows up in IIS7 in one of the sections. Using Windows authentication and it is enabled for my site
6) Tried running the .net site using both localhost (IIS) and also tried using the Visual Studio built-in web server. Both give this message still

When my default.aspx page loads I get this error for the connection to my SQL 2005 DB. An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server.

Server) I have already gone to Surface Area Configuration to ensure that Remoting with both Named Pipes or TCP/IP is enabled and it's set to both for remoting.I verified that my local account has access to the DB.Not sure what else to check.

My site works fine in VWD2008 express, but I get this error when I try to use it on my live website.

According to this article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/914277 I am supposed to:

Click Start, point to Programs, point to Microsoft SQL Server 2005, point to Configuration Tools, and then click SQL Server Surface Area Configuration.
Ok, there is no such program in this folder. The only thing in there is "SQL Server Error and Usage Reporting"...
The other thing I am greatly concerned with is this: All is want is for my webpages to be able to access my database for user authentication. I DO NOT want to grant the internet rights to remote connect to my database.

I get the following error and have been trying to figure out why I keep getting it. Initially, I had placed my project under wwwroot folder and ran it under IIS and it gave this error. Then I moved it to my local C drive and same thing. I am sharing this project with two other co-workers and all our config files and code files are same...they don't get this error but I do. I checked that SQL Server Client Network Utility has TCP/IP and the 'Named Pipes' enabled. I thought maybe I have setting in the Visual Studio 2005 that I'm not aware of that's causing this problem...it can't be the server since my co-workers aren't having this error and can't be anything in the code since all of us are sharing this project through vss. I dont' think using different version of .net framework can create this error. I changed the version from 2.0 to use 1.1x and it gave same error... Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I have deployed a web server using server 2003 standard edition and have created a functional web site... Now I want to create a SQL data base and make a DB connection using ASP.NET using Dreamweaver as my HTML editor... This is where I get totally lost and confused...I have SQL 2005 instralled on my web server and have gone through the help files and some of the tutes but am still spinning my wheels... Can anyone please help this wanna be MSDN...
I need help configuring my sql server and then connecting to it via dreamweaver and then creating a data base for data collection from my web site...
Any help here would be awesome!

In Windows Server 2003 SP1 (x86) with Sql Server 2000 I could use the following connectionstring no problem
DSN=Hello;
Now I am using Windows Server 2003 x64 and SQL 2005 and I get this error:
Provider is not specified and there is no designated default provider.
If i try Provider=MSDASQL;DSN=Hello; i get
Provider cannot be found. It may not be properly installed.
for DSNless this works fine:
Provider=sqloledb;driver={sql server};server=(local);database=Hello;uid=sa;pwd=p wd;
but i am forced to use DSN as it is in a closed source application which uses set DSNs (the idea there being that you can change the connections how you like in ODBC)
This means that i need the ODBC provider name that will work in here: Provider=...;DSN=Hello;
and then to use whatever works in there as the "default provider" but i cannot find any information anywhere on how to do this!
please reply ASAP!

Hi,I need some help. I am getting this error after I complete the asp.net register control and click on the continue button. It crashed when it tries to get it calls this Profile property((string)(this.GetPropertyValue("Address1")));When I look at the stack, it is coming from my ProfileWrapper class which adds user address, city, etc.. from a class which inherits fromSystem.Web.Profile.ProfileBase. From the stack, it is calling the System.Web.Profile and crashed when it tries to open a connection atSystem.Data.ProviderBase.DbConnectionPool.GetConnection(DbConnection owningObject). I already migrated all aspnet_user, aspnet_roles, etc.. and don't get any connection errors. It is only when I try to get the profile data. Hi, I've installed SQL 2005 and failed to change the default datalocation during installation. Now I want to change it. Can I do thiswithout having to uninstall and reinstall? And furthermore, is there asystem stored procedure I can use to move existing data and log files(master, msdb, AdventureWorks, etc.)? I have made a stoopid mistake of deleting the DB that was sat to default with Enterprise Manager. Now I can't use Enterprise Manager to work with any of my DB's.
Don't get me wrong, the server is still running, and I am able to view all the old folders in IIS, I can log into and add content to different sites I am working with.
But I can not add new DB's, make backups or modify excisting tables and so on.
There must be a way to make another Db my new defalut? Pls say it is, so I don't need to reinstall, cause then I will loose data the way it is now.
Pls tell me there is a someway easy way around this issue.

Hi :
I am in the process of testing server name on which sqlserver is running.In this process i could sucessfully rename the server and bring the database online.I have renamed the server name in the system tables by using sp_dropserver and addserver .But still in the security logins i can see the agent logins not reflecting the change .
Oldservername SQLServer2005SQLAgentUser$oldservername$MSSQLSERVER.How can i modify these names.

I have had visual C# Express edition for a while, and had successfully used SQL Server 2005 express successfully since it was first released. I downloaded the new version with advanced services, created a new instance, and tried to use it. VC# wont connect cause it is still trying to connect to my old instance which no longer exists. Could someone please tell me how to make my new instance the one to log on to?

I had SQL Server 2000 installed like below:
Installation Directory = C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server
Default data directory = D:
Default log directory = D:
I found out that the data is stored in D:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQLdata and backup is done in D:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQLackup
However, Microsoft says we should never put the ..ackup and ..data folders in the same partition.
My question is: How can I move the path of the backup directory?
I checked the registy but this is what I found:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftMSSQLServerMSSQLServer
..BackupDirectory=C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQLackup (<-- note it is pointing to C: not D:)
..DefaultData=D:
Can somebody help please?

I am having serious problems with connecting to SQL Server via ASP.
I have created a User DSN, however when I am asked if I want to use Windows Authentication or SQL Server authentication, I feel I am having problems. If I choose SQLServer authentication, I am asked to enter a username and password which I do (does this need to be a predefined username and password?). I do this and the connection fails with an error saying that the login is not associated with SQLServer. If I choose windows authentication its fine, but when I try to connect via asp using the username and password I login to get into the machine and the DSN name I set up during the DSN setup, the same error comes up. (for windows authentication does the asp code differ from SQL Server authentication?). I really need help here

This isn't really DB related, except for the connection, but I was wondering if any of you guys had run into this before.
I have a ODBC System DSN Setup for a connection to my MSSQL2K Server. My users will occasionally lose the Default Database setting (Drop-down during DSN Setup), forcing me to go in and reset it. It's getting to be a pain in the ass and I was wonder if any of you guys had run into this before.

Is there any practical downside to setting ANSI_NULLS and QUOTED_IDENTIFIER to ON at the database level? Almost all devs will simply leave these default settings at the top of a stored proc script anyway.

Pardon the newbie question...but I'm trying to load a dimension table in a small data mart that has columns in it that are unique to the dimension and not sourced from any source table. Two of those columns are date columns that I want to default to the system date and the other column I want to load with a default value. I can't figure out how to do this within a data flow task. The source columns flow from the input db source into a scd transform but I can't seem to edit the columns in the target table table if they don't actually come from a data source. There doesn't seem to be a data transform object to handle this.

I have created an employee directory that displays a picture from a folder based on a consistent naming scheme. I need to set a default value for the picture for when a photo by that name does not exist in the folder. I've tried using both the ISNULL and ISNOTHING commands. Does anyone know how to do this?

Hello everyone, I am fairly new to SQL Server Express and I have a question I was hoping someone could help with. I know this will sound very wacky but please entertain the possibility of such scenario taking place...
Is it possible to connect to an instance of an SQL Server Express 2005, using asp, without having a database created and without configuring anything such as permits or users first ?
The SQL Server Express was installed on a PC that runs a web server as well but nothing else was done, I only have the instance name and I know the SQL Server is configured for local access only.
I was hoping to create a database and begin using it with an asp file that runs SQL commands I can input on a text window, but I can't find connection strings that work without specifying a database name, and also I don't know which user and password to use because it is set to windows authentication.
I thought the code would go something like this:
Set cn = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
cn.Open "Driver={SQL Server};Server=SQLinstance;Address=localhost,port;Database=;Uid=;Pwd="
To top things out the web server is configured to send out a generic error message, so I can't see what the error I'm getting actually is...
Any thoughts ?
