Hi, i have sql server 2005 standard installed on my machine. I want to work on express edition and learn about it but on the installation its gets stuck because a higher version is installed. If the express version is free why cant have both versions installed on my machine. Thank you.
I have SQL Server 2005 express installed on my machine, and I was wondering if there is any way to have an asp.net 2.0 web service hosted by a different company be able to send sql commands to the sql server on my machine.
I am hoping you will be of assistance to me and provide a little advice on what exactly is possible using SQL Express / SQL Server 2005 with regards to remotely connecting to a server.
I am a final year undergraduate student studying computing sciences in the UK. As a final year project I am attempting to create a client-server database, where the client (a WM5 PDA) can connect to an SQL server hosted on a different machine (a PC). However, I must be able to connect to the server when the PDA is being used on any Wi-Fi connection.
Basically I want the PDA to be able to connect to a database kept on the PC at home when you're out and about using the PDA's wi-fi.
Is this possible? If so, could you explain in 'dummy' terminology how one would go about this?
As my university is part of the MS Academic Alliance I have access to VS 2005 and SQL Server 2005 for this project.
Many thanks for your time and I eagerly await your responses! Simon
We have a Windows 2003 Web Edition server serving a site through IIS. It connects to a Windows 2003 Standard Edition server running SQL 2000 SP3a.
This site receives the following error as seen in the topic: [DBNETLIB][ConnectionRead (recv()).]General network error. Check your network documentation.
We've configured the server network utility to only allow TCP/IP connections. The connection string for the site is as follows:
Any ideas or tips on solving this issue? We've noticed it is due to larger queries as smaller ones do work with no problems.
The servers are behind a BSD box running iptables, has 1433,1434 along with standard web ports wide open. Anything outbound is allowed.
Some further testing via ODBC on the IIS server improved things. No more connection pooling for the SQL Server driver allows for 1/3 of the query to run. Still 2/3s of it doesn't show up, and that general network error message appears.
Hi While running a DTS, many times the error message: "[DBNETLIB][ConnetionWrite (WrapperWrite()).]General network error. Check your network documentation." appears. Does somebody knows why?
I am running the DTS from a computer (not the server where the DTS is stored) and it is connected without any problem when this happens.
hi there - I'm praying someone here can shed some light on this - after many google and web searches, I have found users with similar issues, but have yet to find a solution. Problem: I have recently upgraded my desktop from Windows XP to Windows Vista Ultimate (clean install) and have migrated my local machine to SQL Server 2005. However I have a number of .Net projects that access databased on another server running SQL Server 2000 - prior to my upgrade to Vista, I was running SQL Server 2000 on my desktop as well. During the install, everything seemed to go well, and I also installed the SQL Server 2005 Service pack as instructed via the MSDN site. However, when attempting to test my .net projects on my desktop pc (ie visit http://localhost), I encounter the error: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) note that the server I am attempting to connect TO is the old SQL 2000 server - NOT 2005. I specify my connection info in the web.config - and it points to an external ip address on the web. Can anyone shed some light on this? I've tried enabling remote access on my local SQL 2005 install, but I'm fairly sure thats for servers that want to connect to my desktop, rather than my desktop attempting to connect to external servers. Any help is greatly appreciated - I'm pulling my hair out over trying to figure this out! :) To summarize my setup (if it helps) Desktop PC:Windows Vista (Ultimate)SQL Server 2005Visual Studio 2005II 7.0.Net 2.0 (ASP.Net Application) External Server (co-located at a datacenter)Windows Server 2003SQL Server 2000IIS 6.0.Net 2.0 (ASP.Net Application)
My application is running fine, as i can login to it and also able to view pages. But when i open Order management(having 3K records) its give me error,
General Network Error. Check your network documentation
I have also searched many articles and tried following solutions but nothing working
- connectiontimeout = 0, max pool size = 7500/100, pooling = false
- SSL disabling enforce security false as mentioned in microsoft kb article.
And there's nothing any issue with hardware/firewall as my application's login and other forms are working fine(which use same database with same connection string)

I've developed an application that connects to a SQL Server 2005 Express database. I created a DSN to connect to the database through ODBC. Currently, I am testing locally and everything works fine.
I would now like to install my application on another workstation and connect remotely to the database located on my development machine.
The client workstation does not have SQL Server 2005 Express installed on it because I would just like my application to connect remotely by creating the DSN and using ODBC. What I'm missing here are the database drivers. The "SQL Natice Client" is not available on this client workstation. How can I deploy the necessary drivers with my installation file so that I may create the required DSN name using the SQL Native Client driver?
I have MSDE install on my machine with Office 2000. I have a sql script(db.sql) that create the database(db1) and its objects. I would like to run this script on this machine. Is there a utility like SQL ISQL.exe in the MSDE version?
Hello Everyone, I am trying to install SQL 2005 on my machine. All I want is the functionality that I enjoyed with SQL 2000- Query Analyzer and Enterprise Manager. For some reason, the version of SQL 2005 that I am installing is only giving me an option for the Configuration Manger which does not provide access to the Management Console. It is my understanding that I need the Management Console to create databases, look at tables in my databases, etc., etc. just like I did in Enterprise Manager. Is there anyone who can tell me what I'm doing wrong? Currently, the cd that I have says SQL Developer Edition. Thanks.

I want to know whether the MSDE is already installed or not on my system using a C# program. For this I have a method which will take the service name as argument and returns whether that servce is found or not. Now I want to know which windows service (service name) will be running on my machine if the MSDE is already installed. Please help me out.
I'm sure this is rediculously simple, but I am totally new to sql. We are upgrading our practice management software to an edition which requires sql to be installed on our Win2003 file DC server and 18 client computers, all running xp-sp2. New software comes with an option to automatically install MSDE but I would like to try sql05 express instead, which they support if it is pre-installed on the server and all workstations. We meet all necessary sql05-exp requirements. After spending several hours online and downloading 05 books online, etc I beleive I understand how to set up the file server where the data resides, but I am now confused about what exactly I am to install on the client computers. Clients have .net 2.0 installed. I see no option to download specific "Client" software, just sql05 server express edition sp1, management studio express, and express edition toolkit sp1. Are you supposed to just run the server ed sp1 on each workstation, enable tcp/ip, and tell it to connect to the server's sql database, and if so, doesn't that leave a sql 'server' running on each workstation? Other documentation mentions installing the toolkit and connecting to the server, but I've found nothing which explains this simple procedure everyone must do, so I know I'm missing the obvious. Please help and Thanks.
Is there any windows command or any tool which would tell me what all 3rd party s/w's or Filtered drivers on my server (like antivirus, monitoring tools like Diskeeper or any I/O throttling s/w etc..)
Hi,I'm trying to use one of my machines as a database server, just for local network testing/development etc. This machine/server is on my local network via a router. Can anyone advise me of how, when using VS 2005 Beta 2, to connect to my SQL Server 2005 installation on the server running on my network. ? In the 'add connection' dialogue, what do I put in the 'Server name:' field, (apart from server name...) is it the name of the machine or the IP address of the machine on the network ?Any and all advise appreicated. Thanks in advance.
I am interested in installing both SQL Server 2005 Express and SQL Server2005 b2 on the same machine. Can they both be installed on the same machinewithout conflicts? As in two different instances?John Dalberg
I have scheduled a backup on a remote machine. Everyday I FTP these backups from the remote machine to the local drive.
A local drive is maped to the remote machine in Windows NT Explorer but SQLSERVER7 Enterprise Manager can't see this drive so that I could do the backup to it.
Hi All,I have a requirement to create the database with data and log files ina different machine on the network.Googling, I got a link which said Mapped drives do not work but UNC pathswork. Any way to run a package without having VS Data Tools or BIDS installed in the local machine? Scenario: I build a package and I put the package in a folder. I would like that one of my colleague run the package all by himself but I don't want install BIDS or DTT in his machine. Is there any plug in, trick or something else I can do?
I have created and deployed an SSRS report, which I am able to access from the same machine using the URL. But I am not able to access the URL from a another machine in the same network.
What could be the problem, do I need to make some configuration changes to the reporting server?
I installed Postscript fonts on my local machine and they show up in the font dropdown for Office applications, but when I open a report in Visual Studio 2005 report designer, the Postscript fonts do not display in the font dropdown. How do I get the new fonts to be accessible in the report designer?
