All databases(30 as of now) must be an up to the minute exact copy of productionand include most recent changes in data as well as any structurechanges (Tables, Views, SP's, Triggers, Users . . etc).When I tried this using Transactional Replication, the replicationprocess gets fouled up once I introduce any kind of structure changesto the DB. I've considered the idea of doing periodic backups andrestoring it to my backup SQL server, but this does not give me theconcurrency needed with 0 latency.I've seen articles that recommend using Transaction Replication with'Scheduled Table Refresh', and also doing database dumps to restore onthe backup machine, but I have not been able to find any documentationregarding this to try out. How can I implement this type of backupstrategy in SQL 2000?

1. Copying a database file and
2. Creating the database file by connecting to Master and issueing create database etc and then running the scripts as we need it.

PS: The app is a multi user app and may be used by multiple windows users on the same machine. So we currently use the Auto Attach feature in the connection string with database files in the Special Application/User Data folder. So we isolate files b/w users.

Jun 29, 2001We have a laptop that has SQL 7 installed on it, and we would like to copy an existing database to the laptop. The laptop does not have any connectivity to our network. I did backup the database on the network, and place the backup copy on a CD. I then was hoping that I could create a new DB on the laptop and restore the copy from the CD. But, I have not been able to figure this out. Can anyone help?

I am trying to create a copy of an existing database and place on a different sql server for testing purposes. Currently my method of doing this is to create a backup, then restore a database on my new sql server. But here is the problem I am running into. When I look in Enterprise manager I can see all of the stored procedures and tables and data just fine, which is how I would like it. But, when I open up Query Analyzer I am not able to run any queries because it says "invalid object name" error. I know that the object name is correct. I think that I am having a conflict between the users which were carried over from the source backup file and the users that are on my 2 new sql server. If anyone could help, I would really appreciate it. I am stuck at this point. I am guessing it is probably something simple I am just unaware that I need to do.

I am preparing to move from sql7 to sql2000 and and considering the copy database wizard to move the databases. The thing that I am concerned with is this passage from BOL
"A database with the identical name on both source and destination servers cannot be moved or copied"
This to me says that the database name cannot be the same on source and destination servers. Yet, you would want the database name to be the same from an application point of view (developers get real nasty when you change database information on them).
Does this mean I cannot use the copy database wizard? Must I use sp_attatch_db?

Dec 13, 2006I want to copy a table from SQL 2000 to SQL 7, that are connected though internet. Since the SQL 2000 is my web server, I don't want to touch it. Therefore, I try to create a DTS package in SQL 7 to copy the data, but fail. I cannot connect to SQL 2000, actually it is a Small Business Server 2003. However, I could connect the SQL 2000 at another computer with the Enterprise Manager that comes with SBS2003. The Enterprise Manager that comes with SQL 7 cannot register the SQL 2000.
Could anyone help me, please?
Will it be solved if I install the lastest MDAC?
Any T-SQL would work like VB's createobject("ADODB...")? Then I could write a stored procedure to do the copying.

I get an error from SQL Server that says that the String or binary data would be truncated. I am assuming that the SQL server is trying to concatenate all the value of field1 into field2. I really need to do this, since I have to work with a databse locally on my machine when developing...
I can't register my express server in the enterprise manager on the machine from which I need to copy the databse.. Seems to be a version incompability problem?

I would like to know if there will every be a clean way to transfer a database from a remote server to a local server (and back again). I've tried several different approaches, but they all currently have bugs/problems.
I've looked into database publishing wizard - but this creates a huge script that takes 10x longer to run than the old DTS transfer.
I've tried copying data, and objects separate, but this requires multiple steps, using DTS this was all done in one step.
I've tried using SSIS Transfer SQL Objects, but the defaults are not created, using DTS, the ENTIRE database was transfered, which is what I want.
I've tried using SSIS Transfer Database, but even when I select "Online" mode, I get an error asking me to select at least one source file, but there is nothing to select (no files appear in the pop up window).
I've tried copy database or backup database, but I do not have suffient permission on the remote server for these.
So many different ways to do it, but all fail!
PLEASE - make a simple way to transfer a database from a remote host and back again. I want to be able to select a database source and destination and have the database copied. PLEASE - at least restore the old way until other options are working first.

Near Exact Matches, Help Needed
Oct 18, 2005I'm currently working on a match function to compare two char based columns in differnet tables to create a join.
In this particular case, I'm using a few different approaches to create a higher match ratio, as typos do happen.
For instance I use a join function using convert(char(10), tbla.field) = convert(char(10), tblb.field) to match only using the first 10 characters, as a lot of records have different endings, but are in fact the same.
Are there any other ways I could attempt to make matches? I was wondering if there was a dedicated string comparison operation giving me a percentage feedback. Debut joining dbut would give an 80% match, and thus I would leave it up to the user to decide to minimum match requirements.

Apr 8, 2015I've a table with values that have the '-' char, ex:LO-AS-1.I'm trying to search the table for that value but it returns more records since it breaks the search term into several others:
SELECT * FROM sys.dm_fts_parser ('"LO-AS-1"', 2070, 0, 0) returns:
lo-as-1

as - noise word
1 - noise word
nn1 - noise word
Is there anyway of searching for the exact word? With LIKE it works fine but it's very slow....
