How Do I Find Out How Full My Files Are?

Dec 14, 2006

When you create data files and filegroups, you specify a size. My
question is -- how do you know how full they are? Is there a stored
procedure for that?

You can see the method at line number 32.  I could not figure out the way to implement it although i know full text search is a good choice.I have following table adapterGetProducts(); GetProductsByManufacturerName(); GetProductsByManufacturerID(), and GetProductsByUPCCode();Product table contains  UPCCode, Description, Size columnsBut i need to get the product which returns the description containing search query. I know some of you have done something similar to this. Could you please guide me....Thanks in advance....

Cannot Find Mdf Files

May 16, 2007

I have created a database on SQL Express using SQL Server Manager Express. However, when I try to connect to it in Visual Studio 2005, I cannot find the .mdf file so cannot create the project datasource. Can someone tell me where it is? Searching through the files does not find it. Knowing it cannot be obtained directly and needs to be rebuilt some other way would be helpful.

Can I Edit SDF Files Without Full SQL Server License?

Jun 11, 2007

I'm trying to open an SDF file. After many searches on the net, it appears that there are two ways to do this:

Open the file in VS 2005
Open the file in SQL Server Management StudioI don't have, and don't plan to purchase, a license to full SQL Server 2005. I do have Visual Studio 2005 Pro. When I open an SDF file in Visual Studio, I get the following (oh so informative) error:

The operation could not be completed. Unspecified error

Since I don't have full SQL server, I downloaded SQL Server Management Studio Express. There's one major problem: the Server type combo box is disabled in the "Connect to Server" dialog. Try as I might, I can find no mention anywhere as to why this is the case. I'm guessing that functionality isn't supported in the Express version of the tool, but as far as I can tell, nobody thinks it might perhaps be reasonable to document why this combo box is disabled. It certainly doesn't show up in the document that shows up when I click the help button on this dialog.

Could somebody at Microsoft please tell me if it is even possible to edit these files without buying a full SQL Server license? I'm trying to use SQL Server Compact Edition to replace legacy code that uses an MDB file (via ADO) for a desktop application. From everything I have read, this is the officially recommended thing to do. But if I now have to buy a full SQL Server lincense to accomplish what used to be a simple double click on an MDB file, then there's something seriously wrong.

Did not work.

My file names are the same as the filgroup names containing the file, this is why I was joining by name.

Using A Regular Expression In MSSQL 2005 To Find Patterns Buried In A Field Full Of Misc Data

Feb 29, 2008

Thanks in advanace for taking the time to read this post.
I am using MSSQL 2005 and have created a function that allows me to use regular expressions in my SQL queries.
My question is I have a pattern buried in a field of misc data that I need to pull out just that pattern and discard the rest of the data.  Here is the Regular Expression I am using
select field1 from table1
where dbo.RegExMatch (field1,'[a-zA-Z]{4}[0-9]{6}[a-zA-Z]{2,4}')=1
This returns all values in the field that match the expression.  What I want to do now is remove all data from the field on the left and right of the expression that does not match the expression.  How would I accomplish this without reading through the 200k+ records and writing rules for every exception I run across?
so I could have Gar  b/a ge 'THE GOOD DATA' m/or1   ba4d da....ta.  All I want to do is return 'THE GOOD DATA'

--database name
event_data.value('(event/data/value)[5]', 'bigint') AS duration,

--estimated rows
--nest level

Basically, is a simple T-SQL query that reads the local file for my already setup extended event sessions. But I can't find the way to retrieve the following attributes as part as the T-SQL query:

--database name
--estimated cost
--estimated rows
--nest level
--object name

I am trying to find a BOL or some MS link with the full list of possible values for event_data.value but can't find one.

Full-index Does Not Fully Populate When Doing Start Full Population

Nov 5, 2007

I have sql server 2000. I copied a database from one server to another. I have one table that has a full-text index. When I transferred over the database, the index still existed, but was not populated. I made sure the path for the file is pointing to a new correct location. I did "start full population". It only populated one entry @ 1MB. On the old server the index is 100MB with more than 3 million records.

I tried rebuilding, re-creating, and it all works, but when I run "start full population", it only populates 1 record. I double checked the table in question and it has over 3 million records and proper primary key.

How do I resolve this.

Anything That You Find In SQL Object Scripts, You Can Also Find Them In System Tables?

Jul 26, 2005

I tried all the INFORMATION_SCHEMA on SQL 2000 andI see that the system tables hold pretty much everything I aminterested in: Objects names (columns, functions, stored procedures, ...)stored procedure statements in syscomments table. My questions are:If you script your whole database everything you end up havingin the text sql scripts, are those also located in the system tables? That means i could simply read those system tables to get any informationI would normally look in the sql script files? Can i quickly generate a SQL statement of all the indexes on my database?I read many places that Microsoftsays not to modify anything in those tables and not query them since theirstructure might change in future SQL versions. Is it safe to use and rely the system tables?I basically want to do at least fetching of information i want from thesystem tables rather than the SQL script files.I also want to know if it's pretty safe for me to make changes in thesetables. Can i rename an object name for example an Index name, a Stored Procedurename? Can i add a new column in the syscolumns table for a user table?Thank you

Script Task: How To Compare Files On FTP With Existing Files In Local Folder Before Transfer!

Apr 24, 2008

In the first step of my SSIS package I need to get files from FTP and dump it/them in a local directory, but it's more than that, the logic is like this:
1. If no file(s) found, stop executing and send email saying no file(s) found;
2. If file(s) found, then compare it/them with existing files in our archive folder; if file(s) already exist in archive folder, stop executing and send email saying file(s) already existed, if file(s) not in archive folder yet, then transfer it/them to the local directory for processing.

I know i have to use a script task to do this and i did some research and found examples for each of the above 2 steps and not both combined, so that's why I need some help here to get the logic incorporated right.

Thanks for the help in advance and i apologize for the long lines of code!

BCP starts copying to table and finished withouterror message.This is my table:CREATE TABLE [dbo].[Customer] ([ID] [int] NOT NULL ,[CreationTime] [datetime] NULL ,[ModificationTime] [datetime] NULL ,[DiscoveryTime] [datetime] NULL ,[Name_] [nvarchar] (255) COLLATE SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AI NULL ,[Class] [int] NULL ,[Subclass] [int] NULL ,[Capabilities] [int] NULL ,[SnapshotID] [int] NOT NULL ,[CompanyName] [nvarchar] (255) COLLATE SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AI NOTNULL ,[TargetRCCountry] [nvarchar] (255) COLLATE SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AINOT NULL ,[LocationID] [int] NULL ,[MirrorID] [binary] (16) NULL ,[DeleteFlag] [bit] NULL ,[AdminStatus] [bit] NULL) ON [PRIMARY]GOand this is the format file:8.0131 SQLINT 1 12 "#~@~#" 1 ID ""2 SQLDATETIME 1 24 "#~@~#" 2 CreationTime ""3 SQLDATETIME 1 24 "#~@~#" 3 ModificationTime ""4 SQLDATETIME 1 24 "#~@~#" 4 DiscoveryTime ""5 SQLNCHAR 2 510 "#~@~#" 5 Name_SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS6 SQLINT 1 12 "#~@~#" 6 Class ""7 SQLINT 1 12 "#~@~#" 7 Subclass ""8 SQLINT 1 12 "#~@~#" 8 Capabilities ""9 SQLINT 1 12 "#~@~#" 9 SnapshotID ""10 SQLNCHAR 2 510 "#~@~#" 10 CompanyNameSQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS11 SQLNCHAR 2 510 "#~@~#" 11 TargetRCCountrySQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS12 SQLINT 1 12 "#~@~#" 12 LocationID ""13 SQLBINARY 1 33 "#~@~#

"13 MirrorID """#~@~#" is the field terminator. We have a lot of text files with allkind of charachers in it. So we think this is a set that will neveroccur in our files. Thanks for your help!*** Sent via Developersdex http://www.developersdex.com ***Don't just participate in USENET...get rewarded for it!
