How Do I Give A User Access To See Jobs Via Enterprise Manager ?
May 11, 2001
Hi,
I have a user who has created several SQL7 databases and uses a VB app which schedules jobs (under the sa account) on the SQL server. How can I allow this user to view scheduled jobs on the server ? I don't want to give him too many priviledges.
I have a job scheduled within Enterprise manager. How can I configure this job, within enterprise manager, to generate output files having the current system date and time as part of the output file names.
what is MS's strategy for having two off the shelf ways of getting at reports? In a typical company, is the average non administrator type user getting at his reports via one, the other, both?
I tried using my administrator account to add SQLServer as an ODBC Connection, but for some reason when it tries authenticating it fails and the reason is that the user is not trusted to use that connection. Yet on my account i've created on my domain works perfectly.
I've added a new user in SQL Enterprise manager, but i still get that error.
How do I set the user to be trusted to use the connection?
I'm a new user and want to build a query with the mining model wizard. The help feature says to go to the analysis manager tree pane. I can't find the analysis manager tree pane. How do I get to it? Thank you....
When I use Administrator to login the NT, I can use the Enterprise Manager. If I don't logout the NT, any users can easy to use the Enterprise Manager too. I would like to know is there any way to add a security checking to avoid user without privilege to use the Enterprise Manager?
I have created new login in my Enterprise Manager. The login is not part of any roles and only allowed access to 1 database (of 200). However, they can see all the databases in Enterprise Manager.
They can't do anything with them, but I don't even want them to see them.
I have been struggling with this one for awhile now.I have a domain group which only must view the steps and history of all agent jobs.I have added the group to the sqlagentreadergroup.I have created a new role and denied this role, add job, update job, delete job etc execute permissions. But the user still can change ,delete or create a new job.
All the groups and users in th new role, does not have sysadmin rights.
we have sql 2012 enterprise version
What else can i try.I need this for audit purposes.
I have couple sql servers. Users need to login and view tables and stored procedures, for that they use enterprise manager, recently one of the user logged in to one server and accidently stopped another sql server through service manager. How can I prevent user from accessing service manager but still be able to open enterprise manager ?? I would like also if it is possible to hide from user view certain things like dts packages, jobs ,etc Thanks
Hi guys, I want to give someone read only permission to our SQL server so they can log in and look at the database structure and query a few tables. I've set up the user but the problem is that when I connect in SQL server remotley, it shows all the other DB's on the server even though it is restricting access to them. Can these other DB's be hidden so that only the DB the user has access to shows up?
I've searched around google & here and can't find a solution.
I can connect to my database via a connection string on the web server but cannot connect via Enterprise Manager or just by ODBC connection on my local machine.
I can ping the server fine and switched off my XP firewall & my router firewall, port 1433 is also open.
Someone has tested this from another machine and it works fine (cheers).
We just installed an application, WhatsUpGold, to monitor our servers. Management won't let me host that on my primary SQL box. So, we are using MSDE on the local machine (call that box my_netmon).
I can access the db with very basic functionality using osql while on the my_netmon machine. I've added my domain user account as a System Admin using the following commands.
exec sp_grantlogin @name go
exec sp_addsrvrolemember @name, 'sysadmin'
But when I go to the my_sql machine and try to attach to it with Enterprise Manager I get an error that the server does not exist.
What gives??? Is it just not possible, or am I missing something here?
My goal is to just be able to see the data stored in the MSDE db. Write views, etc...
I am running an SAP installation on clustered DELL poweredge 1850's with a shared scsi disk system. I am running Windows 2000 sp4 with sql 2000 sp4. I am trying to restore a database from a .bak file on a clustered disk. When I attempt to access the disk through enterprise manager it is not there. I only get access to the E: drive (which is clustered as well)
I want to grant a user permissions to run Jobs in SQL Server 2000. I can' seem to find any appropriate roles for that. Do I need to assign him a server role? In that case, which? Many thanks.
I just setup a developer as a site admin in SSRS, he has administration rights to the site and also rights on folders that contain reports. He can access the reports folders no problem, however when he tries to access the "Home" folder he get's the error shown below.Â
UAC is switched off an other people are able to access this ok.Â
On one of our machines, all of the SQL Server 2000components except for the main Server component (SQL Servercore) itself were installed (Management tools, etc) a while agoand everything was running fine. Now I go and add/install theServer component and then Service Pack 3a.It seems that Service Manager won't start up (I get an hourglass cursor)and now I find that Enterprise Manager won't run as well. No errormessages appeared and I don't think I saw anything unusual inthe log file. However, I can use Enterprise Manager on a differentmachine and connect to the database (so the databaseitself seems to be running).Any suggestions as to what the problem might be and how tofix it? I like to see if I can repair this without havingto do a reinstall.Thanks.PF
IF someone can assist me. Everytime I load up enterprise manager the service manager turns off. And the enterprise manager can't connect to the local database. But everytime i turn it back on and try to connect again it shuts it off and around and around we go. Help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I tried to create a mining model from a remote SQL 2000 database using local user id of remote server. Whenver I try to process the model I am getting login failed error. But the same model runs fine when I configure datasource using windows credentials.
Tools -> connect to database -> Select datasourse - Microsoft SQL Server (SqlClient) -> Server name - comp4_8SQLExpress -> Log on to the server €“ Use Windows Authentication -> Connect to a database -> Select or enter a database name €“ MyDataBase
comp4_8 - is the name of my computer. I am using Windows XP Professional SP2. Login as administrator without password.
Now about the problem I have. On local machine everything is great! But I hosted my website and got this error. The question is how to give permission to this user to connect to my database. Cannot open database "MyDataBase" requested by the login. The login failed. Login failed for user 'ANGELINAASPNET'.
A user was created with a limited privilege under the USERS group. Once this user loged in the Report Manager he is acting like an Admin and Content Manager, though he is not given even a browser role.
What do u think that this guy is acting like a Super User evenif he is restricted to a browser role on the Report Manager ????????????
I'm creating one of my first asp.net pages, and it accesses an MS SQL database. It runs fine locally, but if you go to it remotely through a web browser, you get an exception saying that the database login failed for user ASPNET.My brother told me to do the following in SQL Server Managment studio. It seems I don't have that program installed, so I did it from the SQL command prompt.CREATE LOGIN [bigblueASPNET] FROM WINDOWSuse AdventureWorkscreate user [bigblueASPNET](Where "bigblue" is the computer name and "AdventureWorks" is the database my asp.net web page reads from). This only partially fixed the problem - now when you open the page remotely and try to access the DB I get an error message saying that permission to use the SELECT command is denied.I searched on these forums, and found this:http://forums.asp.net/69166/ShowPost.aspxFor future reference, let's call what my brother told me "Method 1" and what the previous poster did as "Method 2."I haven't tried method 2 because I don't know exactly what I am giving ASPNET permission to do. Does method 2 enable ASPNET to do anything to any database? It seems method 1 is more secure, as from the commands I could already tell it only has permission to access AdventureWorks. So, I'd prefer to use method 1. Can anyone tell me what further commands I can use to give ASPNET permission to do specific actions? If I can't figure out method 1 and have to do method 2, how can I undo what I did in method 1?Thanks!
I've created a local server from Sql Express, and report server from Reporting service configuration manager, and than publish a report on the local report server. I want to give access to the other computer user to the sql reports, database and report server.
My application is currently integration with reporting services using custom security extension. I have my own USER and ROLE database to determine who/which role can access certain reports.
My question is how to give access a report to be viewable by everyone? I dont want to assign all users or all roles to achieve this.
The other thing that I found out is, let say I change the name one of the user/role. Because of this, the authorization will fail because the old name/role is not in the DB anymore. Is this expected? or is there a workaround it?
I created a new login and then created a new user [COM] in DB with default schema pointing to [COM]
I created then schema [COM] WITH AUTHORIZATION [COM]
I want this [COM] user to have all permissions it needs on [COM] schema only. How do I do that? When I try to create table [Com].Table it gives me permission denied.
I am designing an application where multiple users can be assign to a product for review. If a user doesn't have access to the product, they are not allowed to see it. I have attached my table design. All users are assign to a role. See attached screen
We have a SQL server with many legacy DTS packages. sa and Admins can open them and change them then save them but we need to allow the DTS people (Developers) the rights to save the package after they have opened it and modified it.
I'm using SQL Server Management Studio eExpress and I'm tryng to link to a database created in Visual Web Developer Express. My problem is that I can't see large parts of my file system when I try to attach a database in SQL Server Express. Web Developer Express likes to put its databases in C:Documents and Settings<User Name>My DocumentsVisual Studio 2005WebSites<Site Name>App_Data. However, when I try to attach a database in that location to SQL Server Express (Right Click Databases node, select Attach from the shortcut menu then Add from the Attach Databases dialog) I get a folder tree that won’t let me go any further than C:Documents and Settings<User Name>. There seem to be large parts of my folder structure that I cannot access with this dialog.
Just in case this is a permissions issue, I am using Windows XP Pro on a stand alone machine. I log on as Administrator, and the <User Name> in the above paths is Administrator. The Administrator is a member of the Administrators group. I have never logged on as anything else and never made any changes to the way permissions are set. When I start SQL Server express I select Windows Authentication.
After SQL Server 2005 Database Engine is installed by domain administrator, how to give permissions to a regular domain user so that user can control SQL Server Database service?
