Populate A Textbox Using A Select Statement

Feb 28, 2008

I want to create a details view page without using the DetailsView control. I would prefer to have separate  textboxes or labels for each column. I just don't have a clue how to go about after the Select is done putting the data into the boxes. Below is as far as I've gotten. The purpose of the label is just my way of wanting to display the QueryString value, it serves no other purpose. protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)    {        {            string tktid = Request.QueryString["id"].ToString();             Label1.Text = tktid.ToString();          }        { SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand("Select tkt_creator from Ticket where tkt_id = @tktid", HelpdeskConnectionString);                  HelpdeskConnectionString.Open();                 cmd.ExecuteReader();                 Label2.Text = ?;   } Any help would be appreciated. So far, I've learned a lot from this forum.  Y'all have been great.

How Do I Get The SqlDataSource To Look At The Textbox

Mar 6, 2006

I am working with a Detailsview.  I am displaying information from a number of different tables, and so when I configure the datasource I have to specify a custom sql statement.  I can get it to display the right columns, but I cannot seem to be able to use a where statement.
I am wanting to display the info in the Detailsview based on what is entered into a textbox, but I get an error when I try to add in the where statement.  Can someone tell me what I am missing here?
Thanks

Sqldatasource.filterexpression - Different Use For/of - Populate A Dataset

Aug 31, 2007

How does one programmatically retrieve the results from a sqldatasource that has had a filterexpression applied to it?
Let me elaborate, here is my code:
SqlDataSource1.FilterExpression = "MenuType = 'myfilteredvalue'"
Dim _dv As DataView = CType(SqlDataSource1.Select(DataSourceSelectArguments.Empty), System.Data.DataView)
_dv.Table.TableName = "Menu" Dim ds As New DataSet("Menus") ds.Tables.Add(_dv.Table.Copy()) 'Add relation: ParentID under MenuID
Dim relation As New DataRelation("ParentChild", ds.Tables!Menu.Columns!MenuID, ds.Tables!Menu.Columns!ParentID, True) relation.Nested = True
ds.Relations.Add(relation)
What I'm doing is, I have a sqlDataSource that pulls all the data from my DB. With this data in the sqlDataSourceSource, I want to then populate an XMLDatasource (via a dataset) with only the records I need, i.e. the filter. However, after I apply my filter above, the sqlDataSoruce still contains all the records. I thought maybe if I did a sqlDataSource.Bind() after my SqlDataSource.FilterExpression, but that didn't do anything either. In laymans terms:I want to say something like: dataset = sqldatasource.filter(my filter expression).

Using SQLDataSource To Populate Variable BoundField

Nov 19, 2007

I am using a SqlDataSource in my form page to query the DB and populate a GridView. If for example the value of Cell (3) is "1" I want to display the values of two other fields, Cells (6) & (7) in two ASP BoundFields 4 and 5.
Then, When Cell(3) = "2"  I want to compare two Cells (8) & (9) procede as above, placing those values in ASP BoundFields 4 and 5.
Ive tried using the code below to do the comparisons of all the fields that I am using and then not displaying them with "Visible=False" as I dont want all the fields to be visible... But this method has become quite cumbersome to manage.
Is there a better way to do this??
Thanks!

Protected Sub TestStatus_RowDataBound(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As GridViewRowEventArgs)
        If e.Row.RowType = DataControlRowType.DataRow Then                        If e.Row.Cells(3).Text = 1 Then
                e.Row.Cells(4).Text = "<font color=Green><b>" & e.Row.Cells(6).Text & "</b></font>"                e.Row.Cells(5).Text = "<font color=Red><b>" & e.Row.Cells(7).Text & "</b></font>"
                e.Row.Cells(6).Visible = False                e.Row.Cells(7).Visible = False                e.Row.Cells(8).Visible = False                e.Row.Cells(9).Visible = False
            End If
            If e.Row.Cells(3).Text = 2 Then
                e.Row.Cells(4).Text = "<font color=Orange><b>" & e.Row.Cells(8).Text & "</b></font>"                e.Row.Cells(5).Text = "<font color=Blue><b>" & e.Row.Cells(9).Text & "</b></font>"
                e.Row.Cells(6).Visible = False                e.Row.Cells(7).Visible = False                e.Row.Cells(8).Visible = False                e.Row.Cells(9).Visible = False

SqlDataSource+ControlParameter+Textbox

Jan 15, 2008

Hi!
I have a page (a search page) with sqldatasource, gridview and set of textboxes. The sqldatasource is using stored procedure with parameters. Using the visual wizard i'm associating the parameters with apropriate textboxes controls. It all works, like a charm.
The problem arises when I input some dangerous code in any textbox , like ' or % .
I'm having exception about unenclosed strings, generally info about the possibility of sql injection.
I thought that using ControlParameters, any Parameter in fact is sqlinjection safe, but apparently it isn't.
Does anyone know the right way of achieving my goal? It's very urgent.

Binding A SqlDataSource To A TextBox Or Label

Feb 28, 2007

I have a SQL database with 1 column in it.. it is a do not call registry for my office.  I want to make a web application so our leads can go on the web and request to be put on the do not call list.  problem is, if their number already exists, it gets a violation of primary key... Normal handling for this would be to do a select query based on user input, and if it exists in the database, tell them that, else do the insert query... Problem is, i cant seem to figure out how to bind the result of the select query to a textbox or label so i can compare the results to do that logic.  Any ideas?  This is in asp .net 2.0.  Thanks! -Dan

Setting SqlDatasource Parameters From TextBox

Feb 17, 2008

I have a sqlDatasource with 3 parameters based on the input of 3 text boxes on the page. The datasource returns sales details for a company based on a from and to date. I am attempting to set the value of the 3 parameters in the Selecting event of the datasource control but I'm not getting any data back. If I set the values literally then I get data back. Also when I step through the code I can see the 3 parameters getting their values from the textboxes and the drop down list as they should. Inserting TextBox Values To Database Using SqlDataSource.Insert Method

Oct 25, 2006

Hi, it is few days I posted here my question, but received no answer. Maybe the problem is just my problem, maybe I put my question some strange way. OK, I try to put it again, more simply. I have few textboxes, their values I need to transport to database. I set SqlDataSource, parameters... and used SqlDataSource.Insert() method. I got NULL values in the database's record. So I tried find problem by using Microsoft's sample code from address http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.web.ui.webcontrols.sqldatasource.insert.aspx. After some changes I tried that code and everything went well, data were put into database. Next step was to separate code beside and structure of page to two separate files followed by new test. Good again, data were delivered to database. Next step: to use MasterPage, very simple, just with one ContentPlaceHolder. After this step the program stoped to deliver data to database and delivers only NULLs to new record. It is exactly the same problem which I have found in my application. The functionless code is here:http://forums.asp.net/thread/1437716.aspx I cannot find any answer this problem on forums worldwide. I cannot believe it is only my problem. I compared html code of two generated pages - with maserPage and without. There are differentions in code in ids' of input fields generated by NET.Framework:Without masterpage:<input name="NazevBox" type="text" id="NazevBox" /><span id="RequiredFieldValidator1" style='color:Red;visibility:hidden;'>Please enter a company name.</span><p><input name="CodeBox" type="text" id="CodeBox" /><span id="RequiredFieldValidator2" style='color:Red;visibility:hidden;'>Please enter a phone number.</span><p><input type="submit" name="Button1" value="Insert New Shipper" onclick="javascript:WebForm_DoPostBackWithOptions(new WebForm_PostBackOptions(&quot;Button1&quot;, &quot;&quot;, true, &quot;&quot;, &quot;&quot;, false, false))" id="Button1" /> With masterpage:<input name="ctl00$Obsah$NazevBox" type="text" id="ctl00_Obsah_NazevBox" /><span id="ctl00_Obsah_RequiredFieldValidator1" style='color:Red;visibility:hidden;'>Please enter a company name.</span><p><input name="ctl00$Obsah$CodeBox" type="text" id="ctl00_Obsah_CodeBox" /><span id="ctl00_Obsah_RequiredFieldValidator2" style='color:Red;visibility:hidden;'>Please enter a phone number.</span><p><input type="submit" name="ctl00$Obsah$Button1" value="Insert New Shipper" onclick="javascript:WebForm_DoPostBackWithOptions(new WebForm_PostBackOptions(&quot;ctl00$Obsah$Button1&quot;, &quot;&quot;, true, &quot;&quot;, &quot;&quot;, false, false))" id="ctl00_Obsah_Button1" />In second case ids' of input fields have different names, but I hope it is inner business of NET.Framework.There must be something I haven't noticed, maybe NET's bug, maybe my own. Thanks for any suggestion.

SqlDataSource Control Error

Jan 19, 2007

Hello:
I am having a little issue with an error that is frustrating me. I have a SqlDataSource within an asp:label control and also have a two dropdownlists inside that asp:label control also. When I select from the first dropdownlist, it should enable the second dropdownlist with the populated data, but instead I receive.
The SqlDataSource control 'sqlGetMLSByCity' does not have a naming container.  Ensure that the control is added to the page before calling DataBind.

How To Control The Loading Of SqlDataSource?

Sep 20, 2007

I have an SqlDatSource that I have fully setup at design time, but I don't want it to open and load as soon as the page loads, instead I want to open it based on a condition.
How do you do that with a DataSource?
I know that I can simply remove the Select query, and then set it at run time, but I'm looking for something better, that allows me to have the Select query set at design time, in part because I have a lot of parameters.

SqlDataSource Control Synchronization

Sep 29, 2007

Hello:
I have two SqlDataSource controls on two different pages: one is updating a table and the other is reading from the same table.
Now is it possible that the reader SqlDataSource control can be refreshed immediately (to reflect updates) when the other control updates the table?

FilterExpression And The SQLDataSource Control

Feb 16, 2008

I have a SQLDatasource control on a web page. It is the datasource for a gridview control.I want the gridview to show all jones if the FirstName textbox is left blank or empty. Right now I have to put a % in the FirstName textbox to get what I want. If I make the FirstNameTextBox empty or remove the % from the FirstNameTextbox it returns all the names in the database no matter what the last name is.How do I get it to work without having to use the % in the FirstName Textbox? THANKS!FilterExpression="LastName LIKE '%{0}%' and FirstName LIKE '%{1}%'"><FilterParameters>            <asp:ControlParameter ControlID="LastNameTextBox" Name="LastName" PropertyName="Text" DefaultValue="" />            <asp:ControlParameter ControlID="FirstNameTextBox" Name="FirstName" PropertyName="Text" DefaultValue="" /></FilterParameters>

SqlDataSource And Wizard Control

Apr 8, 2008

I have not found anything useful on the Wizard control.  Anything I can find gets to the last step and then just takes the info you supplied and applies them to a bunch of Label.Text's - none that do work.
So I am building a Wizard control for an HR system that will insert the information into SQL through a SqlDataSource.  The problem is, only the controls that are present in whichever step is currently selected in VWD will appear in the Command and Parameter Editor.
I tried to work around it by selecting the first step, then applying the controls in step 1 within the Parameter Editor, but when I go back to do step 2, it erases everything I just did for step 1.
How do I implement the Wizard with a SqlDataSource?

Confused Need Help With SQLDataSource Control

Jun 2, 2008

I have a gridview that is tied to a SQLDataSource control. As the gridview is filled some of the ASPX code calls some code in the code behind page. Where I am having trouble is that in one of these calls I need to some how pass the id filed ("LISTID")of the table for the SQL statement in the code behind page and I'm not sure how to do it.
The code behind function is always using the same id and I do not know how to change it. Below is all the code.

Here is the calling code in the ASPX page.
