Write Content Of TEXT Field To A File
Sep 19, 2007I have a table with a column [FileData] of type TEXT or XML. I need to write the content of the column to a file, using sp_OAWrite for example, but the stored procedure who needs to read the content and write it to the file does not work because the limitation is no local variable for those types. What use is that datatype if i can not use it in procedures like this?
Anyone out there who could give me a tip on how to solve that?

Example of the text file's content:

ST_Code, "101"
A_Code, P_Code, T_Code, amount, price

"2001", 0212", 0930", 410, 90
In the example above, I just want to copy the rows Date, "20060101" and ST_Code, "101" into a table.

I tried to backup the master key by the following syntax :
OPEN MASTER KEY DECRYPTION BY PASSWORD = 'mypassword'
BACKUP MASTER KEY TO FILE = 'c: empmaster' ENCRYPTION BY PASSWORD = 'mypassword'
but it failed and i got the following message:
Cannot write into file 'c: empmaster'. Verify that you have write permissions, that the file path is valid, and that the file does not already exist.
NB: I am using the "sa" user to execute this command.
I know that we have a security permission issue , but where and how ?

Nov 17, 2011Any easy way for a batch file or automated process to read from one db and table and what ever entry is missing out of another database + table it writes those missing entries to.
This is a simple table in one db that is filled with usernames, I want to see if there are missing usernames in another db and table and write those entries.
db1.usr_table.usr_name = jdoenew
If jdoenew is missing in the 2nd db I will need to write entries like:
db1.usr_table.usr_name = jdoenew
db1.usr_table.password = tmppassword
db1.usr_table.active = 1

I need to export data from a table of SQL server 2000 database, into an Excel 2000 sheet. I tried following query from the sql query analyzer
Code SnippetSELECT * INTO [Excel 4.0;Database=F:ew.xls].[sheet1] FROM tab1
It gave me following error
Code SnippetServer: Msg 2760, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
Specified owner name 'Excel 4.0;Database=F:ew.xls' either does not exist or you do not have permission to use it.
The F:ew.xls file is present and it has no additional security applied, hence I think it should be writable.
Please tell me where am I doing wrong.

How To Write Selected Table Data To A Text File Daily?
Aug 24, 1999I want to check a table to see what rows have been updated today, then write to a text file some data from the selected rows; then I want to automate this (DTS package? TSQL stored procedure job?) to run every night at midnight. Is the DTS Wizard the best way, that's what I did, but have not confirmed that it is writing a new text file every day, and does each new version write over the old one?

I want to do the following with a ssis package:
INPUT:
A table contains 2 columns with data i need. column A=Filename and column B=FileContent
PROCESS:
I need to loop through ea record in the table and retrieve columns A and B. Then for ea column i need to write the Content hold in column B into File hold in column A.
I so far found out, that i need a Execute SQL Task in Control Flow querying the table and get columns A and B into 2 variables, plus a 3rd var holding the object. Then the output goes into a Foreach Loop Container. From this point i don't know how to continue. I tried to put a Data Flow Task inside the Foreach Loop, but couldn't find out how i now get the 2 variables to the Data Flow Task and use them to for the file to be written and the content to be placed in the file.
Is there any example similiar to that so i could learn how to start on that?

SQL Sever 2005 Write XML Data Stored In A Table Out To A XML File On My Local Machine

Just wondered if someone could help me with a bit of T-SQL, i have a application in ASP.NET/VB that allows the user to update a message board by clicking a button "update" this in turn triggers my Stored Procedure for inserting this data into a table, which works great.
It inserts the data into its respective fields and also takes The Title, Line 1, Line 2 and so on and creates a XML file (Using FOR XML) which is stored in the same Table under a column call XML_Data. Which again works great.
My problem now is how do i output this XML_Data to an actual XML file that is on my local machine, i.e. It be created in say C:Inetpubwwwrootxmlfiles("xml file name inserted here from another column that holds xml file name").xml
Any help on this would be greatfully apreciated

SQLLDR Content Of The Log File

We are using SQLLDR to send data from SQL Server to Oracle database. This utility creates a log file. I want to know whether there is a provision to change the contents of the file. We use this utility in multiple SQL Servers to send the data to the same Oracle Server. Can we add the source server name in the file so that identifying which server does a particular log file belong to? How?
Help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot..

I have a requirement where I should be reading the file (I will use File system Task for this) and the header content. I should be able to read the header, validate and when the validation succeeds , I should start process the rest of the file.
To elaborate this further, take a sample Example. Assume that the header will have the date information. In a given folder I should read the file, will check the date (header being the first line of the file). If it matches the current date, I will start processing and on completion I will archive my files.
Can someone help me on this sample. Thanks

Can I Implement A File System With SQL Server Similar To Oracle Content Services?
Apr 29, 2008I need to implement a file system for an application that allows me to roll back to a point in time. I can do this with either a journaling file system (Unix based such as JFS) or with a database file system such as Oracle Internet File system (now Oracle Content Services). I would MUCH prefer to use SQL Server but cannot find anything that supports this other than a 2000 ppt referencing the then up and coming SQL Server .NET File System.
The application(s) in question are older and store data in proprietary data files and need to access a local (or mapped) drive in standard form (d:programsmyprogram).
Does SQL Server 2005 or 2008 support this type of access? I have searched but cannot find anything to support this.

Cannot Able To See The Content Of A Column In A Table?

The problem is, I have a table with one column of varchar(8000) datatype. It has got 1000's of records. Through Query Analyzer, I am not able to view my records after 257 columns in my table, even I increased my textsize by using 'set textsize' command.
Any other setting is available to correct this. Any help is appreciated.

Table Empty Of Content
Sep 10, 2001I have a particular production database that on a few recent occasions has suddenly had one of it's tables empty of content. Now there are no jobs or triggers in place neither is any stored procedures that could perform a delete or alter table operation in place. The permissions have been set not to allow this either. The datatype is text only. What is intriguing is the QA server has an exact mirror and this dosen't happen. Has anyone come across this sort of phenomenon?

But when I try to use @filepath, I get error "Incorrect syntax near '@filepath'." What am I doing incorrect? Also,If some one can suggest a better approach to load content of XML document to table?

Using The File Connection Manager To Write To A File
Jan 7, 2008Is there any real purpose to the File Connection Manager? Not the Flat File Connection Manager, just the plain old File Connection Manager.
I have one in my SSIS package because I thought it might make writing to a file easier. But from what I can tell, it doesn't really do much. I have to pull the file name from the connection manager and basically open and manage the file myself in my scripts.
I went this route because I have two scripts that write to the file in turn... one writing out parent records and the other inserting the child records after each parent.
The script looks like this:

Adding New Content To A Table By Refering Other Tables Using SQL
Jan 5, 2007I keep product name, id in Table1.
I keep Category name, id in Table2.
I keep relation between product and category (product_id, category_id) in Table3.
I have added some products to the table with proper category.
Work fine
But for some products I did not specified any category
(ie their id is not present in Table3)
But now I want all such products
(ie all products whose category is nothing)
To be associated with category_id 10
Can I do this simply with SQL queries?

I can define table with no problem. Checkout the screen snapshot below, from which you'll see that the popupmenu frrom right-clicking on the table name does not have the "Opentable" option.
