I have a database full of tables but no install script. Is there a way
I can use EM or QA to create a create database with all the tables
script?
What I am trying to avoid is going through by hand to all these tables and writing out the sql to create the tables...
I know you can do it one table at a time in QA by clicking on the table
and choosing 'Script object as new', but I was wondering if there was a
way to do this for an entire database at once, instead of one table at
a time...
Thanks!

Hi,
I have a script that performs an unattended installation of SQL Server and works fine.
However, if I un-install via the control panel all the files are removed apart from the databases that are created by me when SQl server was installed. This is good and ensures data is not deleted.
The files left over are in the following directory:
C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLData
and contains:
MyDatabase.mdf
MyDatabase_log.LDF
The problem I have is after performing the re-installtion of SQL server (unattended) I am unable to create a new database with the same name (in this instance called "myDatabase").
The actual files are physically there so this is the reason a new database with the same name cannot be creacted.
Again this is ok again because it ensures I cannot overwrite existing data. However I am unable to re-attach this database to SQl server so I can continue to use it!
The question is:
How do I make this database usable again after an unattended install? Is there a parameter I am missing?
Below are the commands I use that are passed to the installation of SQL Server as command line parameters:
#define SQL_SILENT "-q /passive /norebootchk /qn reboot=ReallySuppress"
#define SQL_USERNAME "username=MyUserName"
#define SQL_COMPANYNAME "companyname=MyCompanyName"
#define SQL_ADDLOCAL "addlocal=ALL"
#define SQL_DISABLENETWORKPROTOCOLS "disablenetworkprotocols=0"
#define SQL_INSTANCENAME "instancename=MSSQLSERVER"
#define SQL_SQLAUTOSTART "SQLAUTOSTART=1"
#define SQL_SECURITYMODE "SECURITYMODE=SQL"
#define SQL_SAPWD "SAPWD=#Password#"
#define SQL_SAVESYSDB "1"
#define SQL_USESYSDB ""
#define SQL_INSTALLSQLDIR ""
#define SQL_INSTALLDATADIR ""
#define SQL_PARAMETERS SQL_SILENT + " " + SQL_USERNAME + " " + SQL_COMPANYNAME + " " + SQL_ADDLOCAL + " " + SQL_DISABLENETWORKPROTOCOLS + " " + SQL_INSTANCENAME + " " + SQL_USESYSDB + " " + SQL_INSTALLSQLDIR + " " + SQL_INSTALLDATADIR + " " + SQL_SAVESYSDB + " " + SQL_SQLAUTOSTART + " " + SQL_SECURITYMODE + " " + SQL_SAPWD
The last four commands I have played around with but for some reason SQL Server service will not start when these are used! (This is a different issue though!).
Any advice would be gratefully accepted.
Thanks
Paul

I am trying to use the Import Wizard to setup a daily job to import new records based on an ID field (PK). The source database is remote and a replica. I am inserting new records to update my table called the same thing. Both are SQL Native Client
Code Snippet
select *
from [CommWireless].[dbo].[iQclerk_SaleInvoicesAndProducts] as S1
join [IQ_REPLICA].[dbo].[iQclerk_SaleInvoicesAndProducts] as S2
on S1.SaleInvoiceID = S2.SaleInvoiceID
where S1.SaleInvoiceID > S2.SaleInvoiceID
When I parse the query, I keep getting an error message.
Deferred prepare could not be completed.
Statement(s) could not be prepared.
Invalid object name 'IQ_REPLICA.dbo.iQ_SaleInvoicesAndProducts'. (Microsoft SQL Native Client)
Anyone know an easy why to get this to work? Or should I add a create table to verify new records?

I've used the ADS sample program and it works well. I looked at the code and changed it to VB (sorry, I'm not biligual yet), and have tried to 'adjust' it so I can connect to a remote PC (XP running IIS) instead of the local PC using the workgroup information database (system.mdw). Any ideas of the connection string that could make the connection?..my intention is to RDA once a week between a mobile device (3g/gsm) and a 'poor man's' IIS web server.
I've tried everything I can think of, and I'm sure its possible since all I'm doing is changing the connection path.

We have a SQL database that uses Active Directory with Windows Authentication. Can users that are members of the Active Directory group that has read/write access to the SQL database create ODBC connections to access the database directly and update the data? They dont have individual logins on the server. They are only members of the Active Directory group that has a login?

I have an application that creates a new database during installation,and I've noticed some strange behavior. Once I've created thedatabase, I am able to immediately create tables and populate lookupdata, provided I remain connected to the server. If, however, Idisconnect and attempt to reconnect immediately, I'll get an errorsaying that my login is invalid for the new database.I can get around this by having my code simply wait 5 seconds beforeattempting to reconnect, but I'm curious to see if anybody here cangive an explaination for why this is happening. Here is a bit ofpseudo code to explain what I'm seeing:open new connectioncreate databasecreate tablespopulate tablesclose connection// open new connection /* can't do this yet, as it would break */for (int a=0; a<5; a++){Thread.Sleep(2000)try{open new connectionbreak;}catch{Debug("still waiting...");}}Running my version of this code, I'll see that "still waiting..."message go past 2-3 times before SQL Server wakes up and realizes thatI'm allowed to connect to it. Anybody know why?Thanks,Jason KesterExpat Software Consulting Serviceshttp://www.expatsoftware.com/---Get your own Travel Blog, with itinerary maps and photos!http://www.blogabond.com/

Hi,
I'm using Visual Studio 2005 Pro and SQLExpress that comes with it.
I have my program running fine in XP Pro OS using a window user "Glen" (Computer administrator) with Administrator rights. This means that I installed VS 2005 using this window user "Glen"
I created another windows user "TestUser" (Limited account) in the same physical PC.
I tried to run the program and on the part that I need to access SQL table, I got the error [CREATE DATABASE permission denied in database 'master']
At the same time while using "TestUser" and running sqlcmd (to check if I can connect to SQL), I also got error HResult 0x2, Level 16, State 1.
I read alot on MSDN discussions and related links but it seems that I can't get the solution that I need.
SO HERE ARE MY QUESTIONS :
1. Am I allowed to run my program using user "TestUser" since SQL is installed using "Glen" windows user?
2. Do I need to add access rights to "TestUser" to allow the user to have CREATE rights? (Note : for security reason, I can add other access rights except Administrator)
Thanks in advance for all you help.

We are trying to script out database schema and data with the Database Publishing Wizard and are having problems with output script trying to create views and stored procedures before the tables they depend on.
I've seen discussion of this on their codeplex site and back in April 2007 they said that the CTP they just released fixed the problem - but we are still seeing it. Does anyone know a solution for this (beyond the obvious copy and pasting into the right order)?
What we are trying to do is move the SQL and some basic reference data into source control and a CI process.

I was looking at the Database Copy Wizard to copy a database. But it says my local system does not have the permission to copy files over the network. I looked over some tuturials and changed the settings in the Security, System Account, was using my local account which has the sysadmin role, which should allow me to copy? not sure whether I am right? Any ideas as to what I am doing wrong?

Hi, I'm trying to copy a database from a prod server to a development server and it keeps failing. The job first creates the share with no problem and then puts the database in single user mode. It then detaches the database succesfully but we keep failing on the copy file step. The step error code is 80004005. The problem is not space there is plenty on the destination server. I've tried running the job using both the administrator and sa logins. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Possible failure reasons: Problems withthe query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not setcorrectly, or connection not established correctly.I told the wizard NOT to transfer logins. What is it doing?In the origin engine there's mixed mode auth (win + sqlserver) and indestination engine there's only win auth: can it be an issue?Thanks,Gabriele

we need to move databases from one SQL Server 2005 to another SQL Server 2005 server. We are using the copy database wizard. We are planning to move the databases using the SQL management object method rather than the detach and reattach method. Both ways transport logins without an issue. I also know that the SQL management object method is slower. Other than speed is there any reason I should use the detach and reattach method over the SQL management object method or is there a better way.
