How Do You Move A Report And Its Subscriptions To A Different RS2005 Instance?
Oct 26, 2007
I am new to RS. The Report developers want a way to move a report and its subscriptions to a different RS2005 instance. They tell me they can move the report but have to manually add the subscriptions back. Is that true? Is there no friendly way to move the subscriptions?
I want to move one database from the source SQL Server 2000 instance to a new SQL 2000 instance in another machine. I have five user databases in this source SQL instance. How should be my approach to move this single database out of this ? My understanding is restoring this database in the new instance, copying all logins to the new instance and then copying the jobs, DTS packages, alerts, operators only specific to this database will do it. Please let me know if this is exactly what I should do ..

I have a server with sql server 2005 installed as the default instance -- I have a piece of software that needs SQL2000 to be the default instance. Is there a way other than install new sql2005 named instance and move databases to rename my SQL2005 instance from <machinename> to <machinename>sql05 for example?
When I try to print a very simple report with rs2005 via the print button on the http://servername/report/pages/... website, it says "printing" but nothing happend. When I look at the server (win2003 SP1 + latest hotfixes) the www and sql2005 (SP1 CTP installed) services eat up 100% cpu for ever. I get no error messages neither in the rs log's nor in os application or system log. With profiler I found out, that there must be some loop. The following stored procedure exec DeletePersistedStreams @SessionID='24iumm55mp32l2ie2nezs0y0'is called about 650 times per second, which explain the load. The only way to stop this, is shut down and restart the www service. This behaviour can be found with all reports. The call, view and export of the same reports to pdf, xls, ... works without problems.
Sorry for the long post but I'll try to give a maximum of information.
I've tried to implement Form Authentication for Reporting Services. Right now, just about everything works as I would hope for, i.e.:
When I try to access http://<server>/ReportServer$SQLSERVER_2005, I am redirected to the authentication form. When successfully authenticated, I can access the report I can display reports throught the ReportViewer Web control by passing the authentication cookie. Etc.
(Note: My implementation of Form Authentication was inspired by http://www.devx.com/dotnet/Article/26759/0/page/1 which seems similar to Microsoft Sample)
(The $SQLSERVER_2005 suffix is because SQL Server 2000 is also installed on the server, but I don't think Reporting Services 2000 is installed)
There is one thing which does not work however and it is the Report Manager.
When I try to access http://<server>/Reports$SQLSERVER_2005, I would expect to be redirected to the /Pages/UILogon.aspx page. Instead, I get an error page with the following message:
"The report server is not responding. Verify that the report server is running and can be accessed from this computer."
Both ReportServer and Reports are on the same server, both have the same security on the folder and in IIS (6.0), both have Anonymous security access "checked".
If I revert to the old .config files (prior to my modifications for Form Authentication) and remove Anonymous from IIS for both sites, everything works fine (like it did after the installation).
Here are excerpts from the config files I've modified in ReportManager:
<CodeGroup class="FirstMatchCodeGroup" version="1" PermissionSetName="FullTrust" Description="This code group grants MyComputer code Execution permission. "> <IMembershipCondition class="ZoneMembershipCondition" version="1" Zone="MyComputer" />
Web.config:
<identity impersonate="false" />
Here is the content of the log ReportServerWebApp_*.log (see error in bold):

So that's it. Thanks for any help you can provide.
1. have report called report_a.rdl with subscriptions attached to it 2. developed a new report called report_b.rdl with the same parameter list as report_a.rdl 3. i would like to replace report_a.rdl with report_b.rdl without losing the subscriptions.
I think this is the workflow:
1. rename report_a.rdl to report_a_old.rdl in BIDS 2. rename report_b.rdl to report_a.rdl in BIDs 3. deploy report_a.rdl to reporting server
Will that work even though the ReportID GUID will change?
I have tried searching all over and have not been able to find what I need, but this is what I have pieced together.
Background: I need to move an entire instance of SQL Server 2000 SP3 running on Windows Server 2000 to a new physical server running SQL Server 2000 SP4 running on Windows Server 2003. I guess my biggest question is how do I move system databases (master, msdb, tempdb, model), I don't particularly like the idea of using sp_detach/sp_attach on system databases?
This is what I had in mind. -Install SP4 on the source server -Backup source to tape -Restore from tape to destination server (restore system dbs as re_master,re_msdb) -Shut SQL services down on destination server. -Replace the system dbs .mdf and .ldf with the re_master & re_msdb .mdf and .ldf -Restart SQL services -Restore User databases from tape.
Ultimately, I'm asking can you change the undlying .mdf & .ldf files for system databases?
Also, are there any issues going from Windows Server 2000 to Windows Server 2003?
I have a SQL 2008 R2 2 node cluster. For DR testing, I need to restore an instance on a new server (completely isolated). The existing instance runs on what I would call an alias. The actual cluster host name is SQLPROD (cluster nodes are SQL01 and SQL02). The instance runs on server SQLPROD-APPLE. The instance is called APPLE. In production, I use SQL Management Studio and I connect to SQLPROD-APPLEAPPLE.
I've setup a new VM to run SQL. Not a cluster. Host name is SQLREC. The new Vm has all the IP addresses that were on the cluster and the DNS for all the aliases are correct. I've installed instance APPLE. I created an alias called SQLPROD-APPLE. When I try to open SQL Management Studio and connect, I can't connect to SQLPROD-APPLEAPPLE. I can connect to localhostAPPLE, SQLRECAPPLE, 192.168.168.50APPLE.
When I attempt to connect to the alias I get error 18452. Pinging the alias resolves correctly. I haven't gotten to the database restore yet, so that's not a concern. I'm just trying to validate the connection first with the correct server and instance names.
I have SQL server 2005 on a Windows 2003 machine. The machine is old and I need to move the entire SQL server to a new machine. There are many databases and users that need to move across to the new server. Detaching and attaching the databases would be tedious due to the large number of databases. Is there a way of moving the DB's and SQL users to the new machine without having to do each db one at a time?
Additional info that might be helpful: The new server's IP address and name must also change to that of the old server. The old server initially had SQL 2000 on it and was upgraded to SQL 2005. The new server was installed with SQL 2005 only. Hence the Database and log paths differ between the old and new server.
I have a dril lthrough report which takes a long time (5-7 minutes) to fetch the results. The reason is that the data it returns is huge as it fetches sales data till the lowest level.
when the users later on trz to export it to excel it takes again a lot of time and eventuallz the szstem freezes. I think the volume of export might be in the range of 14/15 MB.
Is there a way to reduce first the execution speed of the report and then secondly reduce the time to export the report?
Or a way where the report is executed once a day and everyone shares the already published report?
I'm trying to setup a subscription on a SSRS report and get the following error message:
An internal error occurred on the report server. See the error log for more details. (rsInternalError) Get Online Help EXECUTE permission denied on object 'xp_sqlagent_notify', database 'mssqlsystemresource', schema 'sys'.
I've followed the advice given in this post but still get the same result.
The SQLAgent service is running under a domain account and the Reporting Services service running under a local account. Both these accounts are assigned to the RSExec Role in the master, msdb, ReportServer and ReportServerTempDB databases. This role has execute permissions set as per the above link.
I'm now at a loss as to what else the problem could be?
I have created a subscription for a report and this subscription is scheduled to run at specific time everyday. My subscription failed because of some stored proc issue. Is there a way to re-run the subscription. I did not know how to do this so I created a temporary subscription just to run it again. Please help!
Is there a way to specify the locale for a report subscription?
I'm using the CreateSubsciption method through the web service and need to address the "User!Language" item within my reports. Currently, it's always en-US. If I manually access the report manager and set up a subscription in there, the locale is correctly taken from my browser settings. I would like to tap into this for subscriptions.
Hi,I am trying to setup a subscription but I keep running into problems.I setup the subscription fine, I see that it creates a job in SQLServer. It shows a specific domain account as the owner and I can'tfigure out why. The problem is that this account is in a differentdomain and it's having problems authenticating when it runs. I did usethis account for the services and whatnot when I originally set it up,but I've changed the account that SQL Server and SQL Server Agent rununder, but it still uses this account as the owner. The only otherthing I can think of is that the database owner ofSystemCenterReporting is still this account. Is this why it's listingthis account as the owner of the job? Where else could it be?Thanks,Bill
We currently email out reports as either PDF or Excel attachments using Data Driven subscriptions in SSRS 2005. I've been asked to be able to encrypt the attachments and am wondering if anyone has done this or can point me in the right direction.
There's been a couple of mentions about "encrypted email" -- but I don't know where to find further information. Is this possible using SSRS subscriptions?
I have problem with using a data-driven subscription on a report with subreports. It works fine when I remove the subreport and generates error even when I add a subreport which only consists of one textbox.
I just was curious to know if using data-driven subscription on a report with subreports is supposed to work?
We are using Reporting services 2005 and have been for some time. Recently we have started using the subscriptions as well. However we have come across a problem with this.
Currently we are updating our report templates by removing them and then creating them again. This worked fine until we started using subscriptions. Now, when the reports are removed, the subscriptions that are associated with the reports are also removed.
Is there a way to update a report template, without having to remove the report first? And can this be done programmatically? The code is currently publishing the reports by calling ReportingService2005.CreateReport(name, "/" + reportFolder, false, template, null);
from with in an application using the report view can you puase a report that is taking a long time to complete and then at a latter date resume where you paused the report.
i have been tasked with creating a record of all the reports ( 200+ ) within each folder ( bout 20 ) and all the subscriptions (including parameters) for our SSRS i was wondering what the best way of doing this was (SQL query?)
i have tried creating a site map with visio but im struggling to get the subscriptions details
anyone done this before (or have any ideas) i would be very grateful
I doubt this is possible, but can someone think of a way to change the email address used for sending report subscriptions based on the report or subscription?
It's a need that I've heard from a number of different clients. Scenario: a company has one reporting services server with reports running from numerous departments. Report subscriptions are sent to internal and external email addresses and there's a business need to use different "from" addresses based on the report (or audience).
I have an instance of SSRS that will not run my report subscriptions if it is using a dedicated domain account I made for the express purpose of using it to run this service.
If I have SSRS use my personal domain account as the service account, my subscriptions run correctly. If I have SSRS use this other domain account, the subscriptions do not run.
What else do I have to configure to make this run correctly not on my personal account?
Error message below.
"ERROR: Throwing Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.ServerConfigurationErrorException: AuthzInitializeContextFromSid: Win32 error: 5; possible reason - service account doesn't have rights to check domain user SIDs., Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.ServerConfigurationErrorException: The report server has encountered a configuration error. ;"
We have a SQL Server 2000 ent edition sp4 with 3 small databases and one 4 GB database which is REPLICATED The Server has been bouncing like a yoyo today because of a disk controller problem and I am preparing to move the Instance to a whole new server this afternoon. The new Server will have the same IP and name as the original server.
Any suggestions for the easiest or most seamless way to make this happen? preferably using Backup and Restore since they plan on taking the old server down completely and then building a new server with the same name and IP ... any suggestions would be appreciated.
I am not sure if this is possible or not, but I have to at least ask.
I have a SQL Reporting Services project that has a QA server version and then a Production server version. So when requested changes are made to the reports, I make the changes in Visual Studio and then push to QA. After the changes have been tested and approved, I then push the changes to the Production server.
I have come across an issue, where requested changes were made in Visual Studio (a lot of changes), and pushed to QA. The users now have changed their minds and they want instead to stay with what is in production. So, I am looking for a way to recover the report file on the production web server, bring it back into my visual studio project to replace the report that I had changed.
Is this possible, or will I have to start over and step one and reverse the changes in Visual Studio.
I have a report that has a SSN input parameter based on which the report is generated.
So given a single row (one SSN), one report instance is generated.
Now, I have multiple rows 20,000 or so, rows from which I need 20,000 reports generated, (so they can be printed and mailed to the clients)
How do I design the report that can handle singe or multiple reports instances?
I did tried to use the List Report Item however I could not find a way to fix the page numbers so they restart for each instance of the reports instead of being 1 of 20,000 2 of 20,2000 and so on
I started a new thread as I was able to get more information on the error Im getting when I attempt to generate the report in report manager. Ive seen some solutions but nothing seems to work for my particular case. I am hopefull that this can be resolved "WITHOUT" ininstalling and reinstalling SSRS so any information would be helpful.
