what I want to achieve is to load a text file that has email addreses from disk and using the email addresses in the text file look it up against the email addresses in the database table then once matched delete all the users in the table whose email address were in the text file.
I also want to update some users using a different text file.

View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen loading a table in a data flow from a text file that contains non-null float values, I am seeing erratic and inconsistent results. I am presently using SQL Server Destination in a data flow.
- With low volumnes of data, less that 50,000 rows, no problems
- But with higher volumnes, 2,000,000+ rows, I get different results depending on how I run the package. If I run is directly (right-click and click on Execute), I get the expected result.
But if I use SQL Server Agent to run the package, half of the values are lost and nulls are loaded instead. I have inspected the into text file and there are few rows with null for the column.
Any help would be appreciated!

I am new to SSIS but i have avg working knowledge in sql.
My problem is as follows ,I have a text pipe dilimited file in some folder and the number of columns and the name of the column is not consistant. It can have N number of column and it can have any column names. I need to load this text file data into a sql table. All that i want is to load this file to SQL Database with some temp name. Once i get the table in SQL Database, i can match the column names of both taget table and this temp table and only push those column which matches with the target table. For this i can frame Dynamic SQL. This part is clear to me.
Now the problem is , I developed a SSIS pacakge to push the text file to SQL Table. I am able to do this. But if i change the column names or added new column SSIS is not able to push the new columns. Is this functionality available in SSIS, is it can be dynamic like this?
I hope i am clear with my prob... if need any clarification please let me know

I
have a flat file which is loaded into the database on a daily basis.
The file contains rows of strings which I load into a table,
specifically to a column of length 8000.
The string has a length of 690, but the format is like 'xxxxxx xx xx..'
and so on, where 'xxxx' represents data. So there are spaces, etc present in the middle.
Previously
I used SQL 2000 DTS to load the files in, and it was just a Column
Transformation with the Col001 from the text file loading straight to
my table column. After the load, if I select len(col) it gives me 750
for all rows.
Once I started to migrate this to SSIS, I
allocated the Control Flow Task and specified the flat file source and
the oledb destination, and gave the output column a type of String and
output column width of 8000. But when I run the data flow task it
copies only 181 or 231 characters out of the 750 required.
I feel it stops where it finds the SPACES and skips the rest.
I
specified row delimiters or CR, and LF. I checked the file under
UltraEdit and there were no special characters in the file that would
cause the problem.
Any suggestions how I can get it to load the full data?

We have created SSIS package to load a text file into a table. Source system shares 10 text files and recently they stopped generating data for one of the text file (comping empty), after few months they will start generating the data for the empty file batch processing.

I am having difficulties loading data from a flat file to a SQL Database. I am able to load some data but the rest gets kicked out for the following reasons:
1 – The field is varchar 50 and I would like to convert it to a date field
2 – The field contain periods (.) (Only 1 period in each row)
3 – The field contain blanks (NULLS)
How do I create a derived column that will bypass blanks (Nulls) and remove periods (.) in each row then convert column to a date field in SSIS? The data file is a simple Unicode file with lines of text. BCPapparently doesn't guarantee this ordering, and neither does theimport tool. I want to be able to load the data either sequentially oradd line numbering to large Unicode file (1 million lines). I would like to import a text file which contains one string (a large integer) per line not separated by commas or anything else except a carriage return. Does anyone know of an easy way to store this in a database file? I'm open to suggestions if there is more than one way to save this kind of information within a database. I have SQL server 2005 developer edition if that helps in any way. I'm also starting to learn about Linq so if there is some other way you would store this information for that purpose I would love to hear about that as well. C# code is preferable, but I can use the automatic translators if that's all you have. By the way, I'm a newbie to this subject (if you couldn't tell). Thanks in advance.

I have a website, where people upload tab delimited text files of their product inventories, which the site parses and inserts into a database table. Here's the catch: Instead of insisting that each user use a standardized format, each user can upload the file in whatever column order they want, they just have to let the site know through a GUI which column is in which order. And, they may upload columns that if not mapped, will be ignored. Right now, I am doing all of this in code and it runs slow, I was thinking of offloading this to either a stored procedure, ssis, or bulk upload. But, with the varying format of the uploaded text file, I am not sure how I could do that. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I have the post title, post date, post by, etc stored in a database table, however I was wondering whether I should store the actual post content in the database as well or in a text file. For example, if the posts get really long would it slow down database performance or would there not be much of a difference? I am having trouble with the following:An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file (file location).../Database.mdf failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share.
It has only begun since i decided i wanted to use IIS, I realise VWD comes with its own localhost, but since it is only temporary, i wanted a permanent shortcut on my desktop to link to my intranet page.

I have problem I'm hoping someone can give me some pointers with.
I need to load data from several text files into one table. The format of the files are simple - each line is comma separated, with double quotes around each element e.g.
"parameter 1","value 1","parameter 2","value 2"....
"parameter 12","value 12","parameter 13","value 13"...
However, the files themselves will have different numbers of columns e.g file 1 may have 8 columns, file 2 may have 16 columns.
I'm going to load the data into a table that has at least as many columns as the longest file. The table columns are all varchar, and are named simply as [Col001] [Col002] [Col003] etc...
The first two columns of this table must be left empty during the load (I use these later on), so the data entry will start at [Col003].
My question is what is the best way to do this? I thought perhaps using a BULK INSERT in a stored procedure might do the trick, but I haven't used it before and haven't got very far. I gather another approach might be to use bcp utility. Someone has also suggested a DTS package, but the filenames will be suffixed with current date/time stamp, so i don't think that will work.
My preferred appraoch would be the BULK INSERT..but i'm open to any pointers.

I have around 140 text files in a folder where all the file entries are delimited by tabs. Currently i am copying the data and then pasting it in to the tables and it is perfectly working fine. I have already created tables for those 140 files. But now i want to load those files in to the table at a single shot. How can i do it? I am using SQLServer 2005.
