Some Problems With Output Parameters In Stored Procedures

Jul 6, 2004

I have written a simple C# console application that create my own Stored Procedures
the code is here
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

static void Main(string[] args)
{
SqlConnection cn;
string strSql;
string strConnection;
SqlCommand cmd;
strConnection="server=(local);database=Northwind;integrated security=true;";
strSql="CREATE PROCEDURE spmahdi @CustomerID nchar(5) @counter int OUTPUT AS SELECT OrderID, OrderDate,RequiredDate,ShippedDate FROM Orders WHERE CustomerID = @CustomerID ORDER BY OrderID SET @counter=@@rowcount";
cn=new SqlConnection(strConnection);
cn.Open();
cmd=new SqlCommand(strSql,cn);
cmd.ExecuteNonQuery();
cn.Close();
Console.WriteLine("Procedure Created!");
}

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
but it has some errors becuase of my strSql
strSql="CREATE PROCEDURE spmahdi @CustomerID nchar(5) @counter int OUTPUT AS SELECT OrderID, OrderDate,RequiredDate,ShippedDate FROM Orders WHERE CustomerID = @CustomerID ORDER BY OrderID SET @counter=@@rowcount";
I mean in creating the stored procedure
if i delete the Output parameter from my stored procedure
and my strSql would be somethimg like this
strSql="CREATE PROCEDURE spmahdi @CustomerID nchar(5) AS SELECT OrderID, OrderDate,RequiredDate,ShippedDate FROM Orders WHERE CustomerID = @CustomerID ORDER BY OrderID ";
There will be no errors
I use Visual Studio.NET 2003(full versoin)and MSDE(not Sql Server)
Could someone help me solve this problem?

Capture Stored Proc Output To File

Results returned such as, 18 rows affected (the stuff that shows in results pane of query analyzer). Do I have to run the stored proc in batch mode to do this and capture via the output file in OSQL? I also want to capture error messages in case the stored proc aborts in the middle.

I am running SQL Server 7.0 SP2 on Win2K. I am running the stored proc in a DTS package.

Output A File With Results Of Stored Procedure

Feb 3, 2008

I have a stored procedure that outputs an XML result. As it is right now, I will periodically go into SQL Server Mngmnt Studio and run the procedure, then save the XML output to an XML file that my website uses. The procedure takes too long run (it is recursive through the entire data set) to have the website call the procedure on its own, and wait for the results.

My question is this: Can I create a trigger that will run this stored procedure and save the results to a file? Is that possible? The trigger would call the procedure any time a specific table is updated (which will be a rare occurrence), then save the file to the path provided so the website users could always have the most up-to-date information without having long wait times caused by long waits for the procedure to run.

Any advice on how best to accomplish this will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Stored Procedure Output To Flat File

Sep 17, 2007

Hi,

I tried to find some information about this, but surprisingly can't seem to find anything. Seems like it would be a very common scenario.

I need to send the output of a stored procedure to a flat file. First, I created an Execute SQL Task that calls the stored procedure. I selected "full result set."

My first question is, how do I capture the individual column values? For example, under "Result Set", should I create an Object variable, or should I use individual column variables? I've tried both ways, but can't seem to get to the next item, below...

Now, how do I map the variables to the flat file? If I use a data flow task, the flat file has "no available inputs". If I add an OLE DB Source before the flat file destination, there's no place to capture the result set.

Clearly, I am missing something here.

Thanks

How To Write File From A Clr Stored Procedures

Feb 19, 2008

Hi
I wrote a clr storred procedure that use fileopen, fileput an fileclose to write a report from a sql 2005 database but I don't know how to give it permissions to do its job.

The Code is

Imports System
Imports System.Data
Imports System.Data.Sql
Imports System.Data.SqlTypes
Imports System.Data.SqlClient
Imports Microsoft.SqlServer.Server
Imports Microsoft.VisualBasic
Imports System.Security.Permissions

Partial Public Class StoredProcedures
<Microsoft.SqlServer.Server.SqlProcedure> Public Shared Sub PriceSum( ByVal intFecha as sqlInt32 )

dim strFecha as string
strFecha = cstr(intFecha)

Dim f As New FileIOPermission(PermissionState.none)
f.AllLocalFiles = FileIOPermissionAccess.write
f.Demand()

FileOpen(1, "G:AuVeJAPParchivo.txt", OpenMode.Random, OpenAccess.ReadWrite, OpenShare.LockReadWrite, 10)
Using connection As New SqlConnection("context connection=true")
Connection.Open()
dim strConsulta as string
strConsulta = "declare cur_unidades cursor for select id_tda_vdp from tda_venta_departamental_vdp where date_operacion_vdp = " & strFecha & " group by id_tda_vdp order by id_tda_vdp"

Dim command As New SqlCommand(strConsulta, connection)
Dim reader As SqlDataReader
reader = command.ExecuteReader()
using reader
Dim intKon as integer
intKon = 0

While reader.Read()
fileput(1, reader.GetSqlstring(0) & chr(0), intKon)
intKon = intKon + 1
End While

End Using
End Using
fileClose(1)
End Sub
End Class

As you could see, the report needs a chr(0) at the end of each line, thats why I spent a lot of time learning clr/sql, but when I finally success in crate the assembly an procedure in sql 2005 it gives me this frustrating error:

The following 2 stored procedures are used to insert and select attachments for a web application I'm creating. The stored porcedures work in the basic sense but when I do the insert only one record is inserted. Also, when I do the select only one record is selected.

I'm wondering if I there is suppose to be some sort of record counting or looping involved to insert and return all records. If there is, I would appreciate any advice and/or examples on the proper way of doing this.

If the code is also needed I'd be glad to post it as well.

Table Names In Stored Procedures As String Variables And Temporary Table Question

Apr 10, 2008

How do I use table names stored in variables in stored procedures?

Code Snippetif (select count(*) from @tablename) = 0 or (select count(*) from @tablename) = 1000000

I receive the error 'must declare table variable '@tablename''

I've looked into table variables and they are not what I would require to accomplish what is needed.
After browsing through the forums I believe I need to use dynamic sql particuarly involving sp_executesql. However, I am pretty new at sql and do not really understand how to use this and receive an output parameter from it(msdn kind of confuses me too). I am tryin got receive an integer count of the records from a certain table which can change to anything depending on what the user requires.

Code Snippet

if exists(Select * from sysobjects where name = @temptablename)
drop table @temptablename

It does not like the 'drop table @temptablename' part here. This probably wouldn't be an issue if I could get temporary tables to work, however when I use temporary tables i get invalid object '#temptable'.

Heres what the stored procedure does.
I duplicate a table that is going to be modified by using 'select into temptable'
I add the records required using 'Insert into temptable(Columns) Select(Columns)f rom TableA'
then I truncate the original table that is being modified and insert the temporary table into the original.

Heres the actual SQL query that produces the temporary table error.

Code Snippet
Select * into #temptableabcd from TableA

Insert into #temptableabcd(ColumnA, ColumnB,Field_01, Field_02)
SELECT ColumnA, ColumnB, Sum(ABC_01) as 'Field_01', Sum(ABC_02) as 'Field_02',
FROM TableB
where ColumnB = 003860
Group By ColumnA, ColumnB

TRUNCATE TABLE TableA

Insert into TableA(ColumnA, ColumnB,Field_01, Field_02)
Select ColumnA, ColumnB, Sum(Field_01) as 'Field_01', Sum('Field_02) as 'Field_02',
From #temptableabcd
Group by ColumnA, ColumnB

The above coding produces

Msg 208, Level 16, State 0, Line 1

Invalid object name '#temptableabcd'.

Why does this seem to work when I use an actual table? With an actual table the SQL runs smoothly, however that creates the table names as a variable problem from above. Is there certain limitation with temporary tables in stored procedures? How would I get the temporary table to work in this case if possible?

Thanks for the help.
