How To Configure Developer Workstation Using Microsoft Server Express
Jul 10, 2015
I have need to configure Microsoft SQL Server 2014 express on my development machine. I have never worked with Microsoft SQL Server and could use some direction. I have done MYSQL work before but the seems much different.
I have just installed sql server 2005 but, now I have two types of server name: Microsoft SQL Server Developer EditionMicrosoft SQL Server Express Edition Which one should I use? Does it matter??thanks..
I've downloaded & installed Visual Web developer Express and SQL Server Express and now I'm trying to install the Reporting Add-In available here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/downloads/default.aspx
It downloads just fine and, just as the installation progress bar is almost done and the status text says 'Registering Product', I get the following error message:
"There is a problem with this windows installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personell or package vendor"
Running VWD shows the ReportViewer control now appears in the 'data' group. I can add it to a form, but I cannot create a new report, as clicking on 'Design a new report' under the ReportView Tasks popup menu does nothing.
Just getting started using SSRS (SQL Server Reporting Services) 2005 in production and I've got what should be a simple question.
How do I configure a development workstation to be able to develop SSRS reports which will run on a networked server running SQL Server 2005?
Here is my problem... I installed VS2005 (Visual Studio Pro 2005) and SQL Server 2005 workstation components (with SQL Server SP2) on the workstation but the "Business Intelligence Projects", "Business Intelligence Wizards", and "Report Projects" are missing from the New > Project types. How do I get them added?
I can access the network SQL Server and the http://<Server>/Reports from the workstation. On the SQL Server I can develop & deploy reports using BIDS (Business Intelligence Development Studio), on the server. But on the workstation I cannot create a new Report Project nor can I open an existing reporting project (rptproj) or solution. (I get the error that rptproj is not intalled and that I should install the associated program...which is what?)
WORKSTATION:
Windows Vista Business with all the latest updates.
Visual Studio Pro 2005 with SP1 & Vista SP1 Update installed.
SQL Server 2005 Standard with SP2 & Reporting Services installed.
This should be a simple question, but I'm suprised that it is not working after installing what seemed like the appropriate components from the SQL Server 2005 disk.
Any suggestions on how to get the SSRS projects to show up and work in the Visual Studio 2005 on the development workstation?
We are just beginning to develop on the SQL Server 7.0 platform and wanted to konw if Microsoft BackOffice Server 4.5 Developer Edition would be sufficient to test out our applications. Naturally, we require SQL Server 7.0 (which I believe is part of Microsoft BackOffice Server 4.5 Developer Edition) but we will also need multi-user access.
My question is whether Microsoft BackOffice Server 4.5 Developer Edition definitely DOES contain SQL Server 7.0 and if it does, is it a full version and does it support multi-user access?
Also, Microsoft BackOffice Server 4.5 Developer Edition isn't time limited in any way is it? We are hoping to simulate a permanent multi-user SQL Server install for more than one user.
I am trying to configure distributed transaction and XA support using Microsoft SQL Server 2005 JDBC Driver. I have coppied SQLJDBC_XA.dll from XA directory and placed in my sql server binn directory and trying to run the script xa_install.sql from binn directory with command as below :
But I am getting error saying : [DBNETLIB]SQL Server does not exist or access denied. [DBNETLIB]ConnectionOpen (Connect()).
when I replaced local host with the machine name it gives error : [Shared Memory]SQL Server does not exist or access denied. [Shared Memory]ConnectionOpen (Connect()).
where in I am able to test connection from Websphere using the same connection.
Please help some one ....... I am in URGENT need.... I need to enable XA suport for my application to run........
Ok so i am thinking of get the Microsoft SQL server 2000 Developer Edition, i have some questions. - Does it include the server and tools?- What tools does it include? The same as the Enterprise Version?- Will it positively work on Windows XP Pro?- Will you need to install anything else? Does it come with the Microsoft Server Desktop Edition as the server or something?- Will this version allow me to use it to make databases for websites? I searched this forums but i can seem to find what "....it is prohitbited in production..." that means?Thank you and i have tried to search the forums but have gotten no real answers Hope you can read my questions clearly. Thanks!!!!
For the first time, I want to set up the configuration of my SQL Server Management Studio Express (SSMSE) to allow me in doing the non-User-Instance/ADO.NET 2.0 programming from my VB 2005 Express. The SSMSE and VB 2005 Express are in my Windows XP Pro PC that is part of our NT 4 LAN System in our office. I read the article "How to configure SQL Server 2005 to allow remotre connections" in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/914277/ about (i) "Enable remote connections for SQL Server 2005 Express", (ii) Enable the SQL Server Browser service", (iii) Create exception in Windows Firewall, and (iv) Create an exception for the SQL Server Browser service in Windows Firewall. I entered the SQL Server Surface Area Configuration and I could not decide what options I should take for doing the non-User-Instance/ADO.NET 2.0 programming from my VB 2005 Express. I have the following questions on the page of "Minimize SQL Server 2005 Surface Area": (1) I saw "Configure Surface Area for localhost [change computer]". I clicked on [change computer] and I saw the following: Select Computer The Surface Area Configuration of this surface area of this computer or a remote computer. Specify a computer to configure: O Local computer O Remote computer Should I choose the "Local computer" or the "Remote computer" option? (2) Below the "Configure Surface Area for localhost [change computer]", I clicked on "Surface Area Configuration for Service and Connections", Select a component and then configure its services and connections: |-| SQLEXPRESS |-| Database Engine Service I picked => Remote Connection On the right-hand side, there are: O Local connections only O Local and remorte connections O Using TCP/IP O Using named pipes only O Using both TCP/IP and named pipes Should I choose O Local and remorte connections and O Using named pipes only?
Please help and tell me what options I should choose in (1) and (2).
I have a query that executes just fine except that it won't recognize varchar(255) ( or any other value within the () ) and if I leave it off like this: varchar, then it executes but it leaves that value as 1 and that is just not very useful for my purposes. This also happens with anything else that requires () to add length such as char(), or nvarchar(), etc... Any ideas?
When I downloaded/started using Visual Web Developer I was under the impression that I needed to install SQL Server Management Studio Express in order to create/manage databases, and to provide the engine to access the data. Since then I have found tutorials and have successfully created/used databases solely from within Visual Web Developer. I'm assuming that Visual Web Developer includes a database engine, much like the webserver that is included. (This is an awesome thing). When I tried to upload my web application with database to my production server, the database would not work, it started working after I installed SQL Server Management Studio Express on the server. Is it my understanding that you need SQL Server Management Studio Express if you do not have Visual Web Developer Express installed in order to provide the data access engine? Also, I am unable to "attach" my Visual Web Developer Express created database to SQL Server Management Studio Express. Are there any posts that provide more information about this topic?
The only reason I'm asking is that I have extra whitespace on the end of my text fields, and I thought ANSI_PADDING was turned on. I do not see the option in Visual Web Developer Express, but have found it in SQL Server Management Studio Express.
Hi, I'm completely new to SQL Server and ASP.NET, so please bear with me on my learning curve! I've installed Visual Web Developer Express and SQL Server Express (on the same PC). I then used Web Developer Express to successfully create a new database with a couple of tables in it. So far so good. I then installed SQL Server Management Studio Express on the same PC and tried to connect to my new database. The connection to the SQL Server instance appears to work OK (using Windows Authentication) but I can't see the database I previously created. All I can see are the System Databases. Does anyone know what the solution might be?
I have installed Visual Web Developer Express and its companion SQL Server 2005 Express in my Windows XP Professional box.
Now I want to create a database using Visual Web Developer. I opened the Database Explorer and right clicked on Data Connections icon but what I am seeing is an inactive "Create new database" command.
How can I make it active ? How to create a database using my Visual Web Developer?
Can someone here confirm or deny that Visual Web Developer 2005 Express Edition doesn't work with SQL Server Developer Edition 2005?
I was about to order SQL Server Developer Edition 2005 on Amazon, to use with Visual Web Developer 2005 Express, when I read a user comment that the two are incompatible with each other. Does anyone know for sure if that is true?
What I'm wanting to do is develop an ASP.NET web application on a web host using a SQL Server database. I use VS2003 and SQL Server Enterprise 2000 at work, but I'd like to learn the 2005 editions for this side project. I don't own any of the developer tools/IDEs personally, so I'm trying to find the most affordable way to do this for my home business.
I can't tell if the SQL Developer install upgraded the service, but left the SqlExpress version information, or if I'm still really only using SqlExpress.
Also, my intended target is SQL Enterprise, so if I am using SQL Express am I asking for trouble when I go to move the database over? Are the database formats compatible?
I've poked around trying to search for this answer for a while and haven't turned anything up. Maybe I'm searching on the wrong terms...
I have changed SQL Server port to 2433, and add it to exception in Windows Firewall, add executive files as in this KB http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms175043.aspx
Want to change port of SQL Server Browser as well, but dont know how to :(
anyway, after enable Firewall, SQL server is stop working. How to get it working with Firewall? Also, if some one lets me know how to change port of SQL Server Browser too, it would be great
Hello. I have SQLEXPRESS 2005 installed on my laptop running Windows XP Home Edition with SP2. I have an application that can connect to the local instance with no problem. The other day, I tried to configure SQLEXPRESS 2005 for a remote connection from my desktop. To date, I have been unable to figure out how to do this.
I have followed the instructions posted at various locations on the internet, but to no avail. While I can configure SQLEXPRESS 2005 to allow TCP/IP connections, I have been unable to restart the server.
Here is the pertinent snippet from the error log:

I have a feeling this problem is due to the way my system is configured, not necessarily how my SQLEXPRESS 2005 is configured. My laptop and desktop are connected via a wireless router, and both machines are running Norton Anti-Virus 2006. I've added sqlserver.exe and sqlbrowser.exe to the exceptions list for the Worm protection on the laptop, i.e., the server machine. There's not a setting at the router that would prevent the server from re-starting, is there?
I 'm getting this error on expanding the + nodes in SQL Server Management Studio Express Object Explorer:i.e. Database -> System Databases -> Any DB selected and expanding the Tables node When I click on the nodes for Tables for any of my databases, I see it saying expanding..., but then a message box errors pops up. It was working fine until after my lunch hour when I attempted to create some new tables.Failed to retrieve data for this request. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Express.SmoEnum)Additional Information:An exception occurred while executing a Transact-SQL statement or batch. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Express.ConnectionInfo)Could not continue scan with NOLOCK due to data movement. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 601)
I'm having a world of trouble with the Reporting Services Server. The install went fine. I went in to configure the Report Server and when creating the Report Server and the Report Manager virtual directories I get the following error: "The virtual directory could not be created. The previously set virtual directory will still be used." The problem with this is that I have not previously set a virtual directory. When clicking on the link I get the additional error information: "System.IO.FileNotFoundException: at System.Runtime.InteropServices.Marshal.ThrowExceptionForHRInternal(Int32 errorCode, IntPtr errorInfo) at System.Management.ManagementObject.InvokeMethod(String methodName, ManagementBaseObject inParameters, InvokeMethodOptions options) at ReportServicesConfigUI.WMIProvider.RSReportServerAdmin.CreateVirtualDirectory(String virtualDirectory, String path)"
When I check IIS the directories were created but the Reporting Services Configuration Manager does not see them unless I attempt to recreate them again without deleting them from IIS.
I have Visual Studio 2005 Team Suite and have SQL Server Express installed from the initial setup. I would like to replace the Express edition with SQL Server 2005 Developer edition. I am currently developing for SQL 2000 and also have Enterprise Manager installed locally. Will the Developer edition install offer the option to unistall the Express edition (I don't need both installed)? Or do I need to uninstall Express manually and then install Developer. Also is there anything I have to be wary of in terms of making sure I am still able to debug SQL 2000 sprocs etc. in VS?
Does anyone know if it is possible to use SQL Server Developer Edition to produce SSIS packages that will operate on a remote SQL Server Express Edition database?
The situation is such that it is easiest to install a SQL Server Express Edition database on a remote server (for use within a company intranet) due to server availability and licensing restrictions. It would be great to be able to do Excel round trips with the data though - would it be possible to use SQL Server Developer Edition to do this on another computer, and have it update the data in the Express database?
I am attempting to insert information from Visual Web Developer 2005 using either the Gridview or Datalist controls into a SQL Server 2005 database and get stuck when defining the custom statement. When I enter the text within the insert tab, the <next> button remains greyed out, preventing me from continuing to the next page.If I copy the same text into the select tab, then I can continue with the wizard, however this raises other problems which may or may not be related (multiple insertions of the data into the SQL Server database table - possibly due to postback functions). I would rather use insert to confirm that my second problem is not because I am using the wrong option. My question is:Should I be able to use the insert function within VWD express or is this only available within the standard/pro editions?
I can access an SQL Server 2005 database from VWD, but for ease of uploading to a server and to maintain the database within just VWD environment would like to import it directly into VWD and its App_Data folder from the local machine SQL Server. I guess this is more than copy and paste ('especially since this is not allowed becase the database is being used by another program'). I've seen posts about the reverse process but not this way. Any simple pointers please?
I'm developing using Visual Web Developer and want to have a web page that shows the contents of a table. I get the error message when testing the connection through database explorer "Login failed for user ''. The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection". The database is located on a server running IIS and has SQL Server Express installed.

Hello Everyone, I have just installed then above softwares and I am trying to work on a very simple application. On my Default.aspx I created a Gridview and connected it to the dabase.Everything works fine? When I try to work on the Security under Website->ASP.NET_Configuration I get the error: There is a problem with your selected data store. This can be caused by an invalid server name or credentials, or by insufficient permission. It can also be caused by the role manager feature not being enabled. Click the button below to be redirected to a page where you can choose a new data store. The following message may help in diagnosing the problem: Unable to connect to SQL Server database. I see that a lot of people get this problem. Can someone sugest a way out?Thnaks in advancePati2005
I use Visual Web Developer 2005 Express Edition. Anybody help me how can i use reports and subreports with parameters in it. I am new to ASP.NET. Please give me a sample. Thanks in advance.
I successfully installed .NET framework v 3.5 and VWD 2008 on a new Vista laptop. When I want to add a Sql Server database to a website, errors tell me to install SS 2005 Express. MSDN SS 2005 Express download tells me I MUST first install .NET framework v 2.0 before SS 2005. When I try to install framework v 2.0, I'm sent to v. 3.5 and no way to download SS 2005.
How does one install a express sql server to run with Visual Web Developer 2008?
