The Database Mail feature is already enabled on the server, also I have a mail account on the other server.
The problem I faced is that I need to send mail from my SQL Server using a created email account on the other server. How should I configure my email to do that ?
Should I use a sysmail_add_account procedure to enable account, also set profile and profile account ? Does this way creates server mail account that is binded with other email account?
The mail should be sent from my SQL Server.

How To Configure IMAP Mail Server And SQL 2000 ?
Jul 19, 2002We just got a new server. We are running Windows 2000 with Office 2000 and SQL Server 2000 (Standard Edition).
To set up the mail for SQL 2000 it says to use Outlook client in "corporate" mode. This mode doesn't have the IMAP option on internet Mail only POP3.
Did I miss an option while installing Outlook?
I've only been able to find a third party vendor that has a solution but our IS/IT people are not in favour of going this route.
Any thoughts on how to get around this?

Jun 8, 2007Ok, I think this may have a simple answer. Basically I have no problems in setting up QueryString/Control/etc parameters when I use SELECT in the Configure Data Source Wizard as it prompts me for the necessary parameters. But when I try to use the Configure Data Source Wizard with an UPDATE, INSERT or DELETE it does NOT prompt me for the required parameters.Is this a bug or am I just missing something? Do I have to put them in manually or something?Thanks!

Oct 13, 1999I'm trying to get SQL Mail to work but have so far been unlucky. The following has been done:
Environment: Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 5 and SQL Server 7.0 Service Pack 1
1. The Exchange Mail client that comes with Windows NT has been installed.
2. The mail profile has been setup for the same account as SQL Server is using.
3. The mail profile has been setup for a POP3 mailbox on an exchange server.
4. The mail profile has been specified in SQL Mail configuration under Support Services in SQL Server Enterprise Manager (the test start of the profile is successful).
5. The mail gets sent to the mail client, put is stuck there. The mail does not get sent to the recipient.
I have read and understood Q153159, but I refuse to believe that I cannot get mail to be sent by SQL Server without having to be logged on or use the bigger Exchange client (or Outlook).
Any ideas?

Feb 27, 2007Hey yall,I have a problem, I'm a DBA for about 250 databases. I currently haveZERO means of notification on them. I put together an entire plan forusing SQL mail, got a pop3 account set up and all that jazz, but whenI put the request into my company to get outlook installed on my sqlservers they shut me down. The security guys said no email on serversperiod even if it's outgoing only because someone might hack it. Asfar as I know that's really the only way to shoot information about mymaintenance plans and other notifications I need.So with out being allowed to use mail, can anyone suggest any means ofgetting this information? I looked for a central control panel ordashboard for sql server and couldn't find anything. It would bereally nice to have a program that could connect to all my sql serversand just pop up an alert if something goes wrong. What I'm down tonow is just connecting to all these servers through enterprise managerand clicking down to the jobs and checking last run status' andchecking stuff out that way, which is REALLY time consuming.Any suggestions would be so greatly appreciated here!!!Joshua

Sep 4, 1998Hello, I upgraded to Beta 3 and now mail isn`t working(I hate mail!) I found 2 error messages. One when trying to add an operators email id and the other when I try to "test" mail under server properties.
- Unable to start a mail session on the server with this mail profile.
- no mail profile defined.
The account that I am using is used for all our SQL Servers and was working on this server on 6.5 before the upgrade. I have checked the new SQLServerAgent service and it`s using the correct account.
Any help would be appreciated.
And to all you that are off for a long Labor Day weekend...I`m jealous!
Database Mail Doesn't Work
Nov 21, 2007I am having trouble getting database mail to work. I have tried many things, but can't make it work.
Initially, I setup IIS opn the same box as a virtual SMTP server. I set it up to relay to 127.0.0.1. In sql server, I setup database mail
to point to localhost, with no authentication. After the setup, when I test the email it works fine.
I created a job that will fail every time. I setup myself as the notify party on the job. When I run the job, it fails.
I get no email. The job log has the following error (notice failed to notify):

The last step to run was step 1 (test 1).
NOTE: Failed to notify 'Dan Jones' via email.
In the SQL Server log, I see:

On the same box, I used telnet to step through thge SMPT mail send process. It worked fine, indicating no firwewall, router or other issues.
I am of the opinion that Database mail is defective. This post is similar to another I have done, but no usefull responses have been made.

Is it possible to configure Extended event to trigger a mail whenever any event (example dead lock) occurs.

Database Mail Does Not Work From Sql Server Agent Job After Upgrade To SP1
May 5, 2006Upgraded SQL Server 2005 x64 to Service Pack 1 expressly for the purpose of enabling Database Mail from SQL Job, which was a known bug that was listed as fixed in this Service Pack. It still does not work; in fact after installing SP1 on an x86 SQL Server Standard, Database Mail does not work from there now either, although it did prior to the upgrade! I am using Integrated Security.
Error message received: The job succeeded. The Job was invoked by User <name>. The last step to run was step 1 (Select). NOTE: Failed to notify 'Mike Schelstrate' via email.
Message in Error Log: [264] An attempt was made to send an email when no email session has been established.
Send test Email does work on both Servers.
Here is another Error message I found in the SQL Error Logs: [298] SQLServer Error: 2812, Could not find stored procedure 'msdb.dbo.xp_sqlagent_notify'. [SQLSTATE 42000] (DisableAgentXPs). Looks like this may be the root of the problem because it does not exist, I checked. How do I obtain this missing extended stored procedure?
Sending An HTML Mail Message With The Script Task DOESNT WORK 4 ME
Oct 3, 2006I set up the "Send Email Task" succesfully with "SMTP Connection to myExchangeSERVER" using "Windows Authentication"
However, as we all know - you can't have html format for the Send Mail Task. BUT this piece of code straight from MSDN doesnt work for me - each time it pops up this "Mail Sent Succesfully" - but I receive NO freaking EMAILs!!! Am I missing something or is it another one of those Microsoft "gotchas" ?

XP_sendmail Puts Copy Of Mail In Sent Mail Of Exchange Client.
Jul 9, 2001I am using nt4.0 sp5 with sql7.0 sp3 and exchange client.
Does anyone know how to keep xp_sendamil form putting a copy of the mail message in the sent mail folder or an automated process for deleting all mail in the sent folder? As it stands now I must manually delete all messages from the sent mail folder on a daily basis.

Hopefully someone out there will have an idea as this is driving me nuts.
I've setup a task to email on success/failure and keep receiving the following message when executed:
Progress: The SendMail task is initiated. - 0 percent complete
[Send Mail Task] Error: An error occurred with the following error message: "Failure sending mail.".
Progress: The SendMail task is completed. - 100 percent complete
Task Send Mail Task failed
When I configure Outlook Express on the same machine with the same settings it works.
On the SMTP Connection Manager I have left the default name, tested with both an IP address and Server Name, and no authentication or SSL.
On the Send Mail Task, it uses the above connection. The To: , From: , Subject fields are populated. Message SourceType is DirectInput, MessageSource is Test, Priority is Normal and no attachments or expressions etc.
Nothing useful is logged in the Event Viewer even with full logging turned on.
Any suggestions appreciated,

Database Mail With Yahoo Business Mail Server

Our company use yahoo business mail server for our corporate mails. I know that I can configure database mail with SMTP. But when I try to configure database mail account with yahoo bizmail, I cannot do that. It gets configured but when I test it it doesn't send any mails. Do I need to have any special condiguration for this. SMTP address is smtp.bizmail.yahoo.com. Also I have specified the Authentication using my user name and password. Please help

Error Sending Mail With Send Mail Task
Feb 6, 2008I keep getting a generic "Error Sending Mail" error. For testing purposes I am just trying to send using my own email account. What goes in the SMTP Server box in the connection manager? I have tried:
A - the exchange server address (SOMETHING.us.company.com)
B - The SMTP properties I see when I look at the properties of my email address: (my.name@abcd.efgh.company.com)
C - Just the end portion of the SMTP properties: (abcd.efgh.company.com)
D - My email address (my.name@company.com)
I don't know what to enter, or what is giving me such a generic error message.

Sending Mail To Several Users With Send Mail Task ?
Nov 10, 2006I know you can specify additional recipients in the To column by sepperating them with a semicolon. But whats the easiest way to send to several users, when the email address must be retrieved from a table with a query like this:

So when the eventhandler gets an OnError i want the mail task to be sent to each problemsubscriber.

b) sends the spreadsheet to a user

I want to send a simple mail using DATABASE MAIL feature in SQL SERVER 2005.
I've defined a public profile.
I've enabled Database Mail stored procedures through the Surface Area Configuration .
but I can't send a mail with sp_send_dbmail stored procedure in 'msdb' database .
when I execute sp_send_dbmail in the Managment Studio the message is
"Mail queued" but the mail is not sent.
Could it be related to Service Broker?Because the Surface Area Configuration indicates:'this inctance does not have a Service Broker endpoint'.If so, how should I make an endpoint?
here is the log file after executing sp_send_dbmail:
1) "DatabaseMail process is started"
2) "The mail could not be sent to the recipients because of the mail server failure. (Sending Mail using Account 2 (2007-03-08T00:49:29). Exception Message: Could not connect to mail server. (No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it)."
The DatabaseMail90.exe is triggred ,so the mail is transfered to the mail queue but DatabaseMail90.exe couldn't give the mail to SMTP server.The promlem is what should I do to make DatabaseMail90.exe able to connect to the server?
