MSSQL Database Files: Is Licensing Required?

Nov 14, 2007

Hello
I'm developing a simple visual basic.net application and I have a licensing question about database files.

If I were to use a MSSQL database file as a data source (just like you would use a MS Access database file) no server.

Would I have to pay any sort of licensing, and if so what would that be?

Different Access Files DTS To Mssql

Mar 15, 2005

We use a program that creates a access database for each of our payperiods. Its a pain to get a full history of a person from each one. I want to setup a way I can combine all of the access files into one table in mssql. I have a DTS I created into a .bas file. My plan is to make the vb.net code get a directory of the files, then run a function (the .bas file) on each directory appending the access table to the mssql table. The struckture of the access files are that each file is in its own directory, like below:

\servernameTAcompany7-25-04Trans.mdb
\servernameTAcompany8-08-04Trans.mdb
\servernameTAcompany8-22-04Trans.mdb

The table is called "Transactions" and they are the same in each mdb file in terms of fields. Every two weeks there is a new directory that is added to the company directory. So I can either dump all and append all, or only append new data and only use the dump/append when there is a problem.

I am just not sure how to do that. Any ideas?

Feasability Of Storing PDFs And WORD.DOC Files In MSSQL?

Jul 23, 2005

I'm building a system when one can upload a document to the website.I will be storing the document on the hard-drive for quick/easy access, but I was also thinking of storing it in an existing database since mostof the sites information is all stored there. As well there would be only one place to worry about backing up. And ifthe file on the hard-drive was ever missing or became corrupted, I couldrestore it form tha database. Is this feasable? Convert Doc-files To Rdl-files

Jan 22, 2008

Hello,

I might have a rather strange question but I was wondering if there is a way/tool that can be used to convert/import Word documents (.doc) into Reporting Services report files (.rdl). The problem is that I have lots of Word documents containing e.g. survey question. The reports are very extensive with many pages and many "graphical" objects e.g. rectangles etc.. Now I want to have all these reports imported into Reporting Services, i.e. I want the .doc-files to be converted to .rdl-files. I do not want to use e.g. OfficeWriter but I want the .doc-files to be migrated to the rdl-format. Is that possible, is there a tool for this? Both file formats are Microsoft formats, so there should be a conversation tool right?

Best Regards
Lars

My task is to convert jpeg's to binary and then insert them into a table called "images". I need to convert/insert all jpeg files in a directory. I'm able to accomplish the task if the files are numbered. The query below works by retrieving one file at a time based on the value of @i. However, I also have directories where the files are not numbered but have ordinary text names like "Red_Sofa.jpg". I need to iterate through these directories as well and convert/insert the jpeg's. Adding Data To Database Or Viewing Database In MsSQL

I am new to ms SQL. I only have the use of the Enterprise Manager.
Creating tables I understand. However I am confused on how to add data to
a table or view the data in a table. Can this be done through Enterprise Manager? If I am adding a large amount of data do I have to use the query window. This seems like a tedious method. In Access yo have a form basically pop up where you can type in the record sets. Any advice would be appreciated! Sincerely,

Rename A Database Under Mssql 6.5?

Apr 17, 2000

Hello:

I am supporting a mssql 6.5, sp 4 application.

We have set up an user acceptance server with a database that is the same as production. However, I have been told that this database and server may be used for applying fixes rather than user acceptance.

To avoid confusion over which database is on which server, it might be a good idea to rename the database. I am not sure if this can be done un der mssql 6.5?

1)Can I rename a database?

2)If so, how can I do so?

Which system tables would I use to update?

Any information you can furnish will be appreciated. THanks.

How Do I Log Into The MSSQL Express Database

Aug 25, 2006

David writes "Dear sir,
I've installed VS.NET 2005 Professional many times and find that the MS SQL Express 2005 is running.
My ambition is to log into this server so that I can convert my MySQL database into it. What is the default;
Hostname
Port
Username
Password

What tool is provided so that I might execute my schema to create a database in this server. This 'schema' will obviously have many tables inside. Most SQL products provide some type of utility program where one can create, edit, delete databases and an adminstration program. I see nothing of yours in my Programs -> MS SQL Server 2005 -> SQL Computer Manager.
Thank you,

Database Explorer In VB Express:AdventureWorks.mdf-Files Do Not Match The Primary File Of The Database

I downloaded and ran AdventureWorks.msi into my SQL Server Management Studio Express (SSMSE) one year ago.But I did not know how to attach it to my SSMSE then. Last week, I deleted it from the "Add or Remove" of Control Panel and I downloaded the new AdventureWork.msi and installed it my SSMSE. Today, I tried to use the Database Explorer of VB 2005 Express for the first Stored Procedure programming. I clicked on AdventureWorks.mdf and I got the following error: One or more files do not match the primary of the database. If you are attempting to attach a database, retry the operation with the correct files. If this is an existing database, the file may be corrupt and should be restored from a backup. Log file 'C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLDataAdventureWorks_Data_log.ldf' does not match the primary file.
