How To Convert String Data Type To DateTime In Derived Column Control In SSIS Package

Hi ,
I am Using Derived column between Source and Destination Control. the Source input column PriceTime is String Data type. but in the Destination is should be a DATE TIME column. How to Convert this string to DateTime in the Derivied Column Control.
I already tried to in the Derived column control
PRICEDATETIME <add as new column> ((DT_DBTIMESTAMP)priceDateTime) database timestamp [DT_DBTIMESTAMP]
But still throwing Error showing type case probelm

Hi, I have dates in "mmddyy" format coming from the sources and they are older dates of mid 80s like 082580 for instance.
When I cast it this way (DT_DBTIMESTAMP) Source_Date , It says ok but throws a runtime error.
When I hardcode a date in same format, (DT_DBTIMESTAMP) "082580" , It becomes red (an indication of syntax error) . Please note that we use double quotes in expressions in Derived Column Transformation; So an anticipation that using double quotes over single ones would be the syntax problem would be wrong.
Being a newbie to SSIS I'm not sure of the most efficient method of converting a DateTime object to a String.
I'm from a C# background where this would be easy using DateTime.ToString("YYYYMMdd"). I want to use the date in a file name so don't require most of the parts.
I'm sure I could do this using a script task to produce a file name for each row of data in my table and add that filename to the dataset but it seem like overkill to do something that should be simple. Also as I'm supposed to be getting to grips with SSIS I shouldn't keep running back to what I know.
My current approach is to derive a column and build up an expression to convert the date into a string. The only problem being that it doesn't work. The expression I'm working with is: (DT_WSTR, 50)([OrgName] ) + "_" + (DT_WSTR, 50)( [PayrollName] ) + (DT_WSTR, 4)(YEAR( [ProcessedDate] )) + (DT_WSTR, 2)(MONTH( [ProcessedDate] )) + (DT_WSTR, 2)(DAY( [ProcessedDate] )) ".txt"
how to declare multiple derived columns in SSIS Derived Column Task in one attempt.as i have around 150 columns coming from Flat file. I had created the required Expression in Excel and now i want add those in derived column task but its allowing only 1 expression at a time.

Hey im trying to store a category name and the date into a database. For some reason i keep getting this error Implicit conversion from data type datetime to int is not allowed. Use the CONVERT function to run this query. This is because a date of 04/16/2014 will show as 160416 in the first part of the field I need to parse it out of, thus becoming 04162014.
From there I then need to convert this "date" into a legitimate SQL datetime type, so that I can then run a DATEDIFF to compare it to when the record was actually entered, which is a separate field in the table, and already in datetime format.
When I use the below statement, I am getting the message that, "Conversion failed when converting date and/or time from character string."

I know the this can be achived through type cast in Derived Column compunent, but not sure with which cast please help me out in resoulving this issue.

Hey, I have a big problem that i wanna search data from SQL by DateTime like thatselect * from test where recorddate='MyVariableWhichHoldDate'i use variable that holds Date info.i searched a lot infomation on net but there is no perfect solution. i know why this occur but there is no function to solve this problem. i used a lot of ways. it accept yyyy-mm-dd format but my variable format is dd-mm-yyyyy . is there any function for this problem? and any other solution.thanks for ur attentionregards
i have too many DTS packages to migrate to SSIS, and while examining a DTS package in BIDS (converted with the migration utility) i tried to edit the resulting migrated package, which opened the DTS interface with the two connection icons joined by the big fat arrow with a gear on it...not exactly what i had in mind, iow, it looks like SSIS on the outside, but its still DTS on the inside. So I stripped out a series of components from a more complex package hoping that simplifying it would reveal the contents of old DTS Transformations tab at least partially set up in a Derived Column transformation. Can i get there from here, or must i recreate every stinking definition in a derived column manually from the ground up? thanks very much for your help
I have an OLE DB Source and i want to transform the data type fields of the table before i export the table in an OLE DB Destination. Is there a way to transform numeric value to float, and numeric to nvchar?
I use Visual Studio's, integration project to load XML file into SQL Server. In the XML file, i have defined collumns as string. When i try to load XML file with parts defined in scheme as string, i get an error "cannot convert between unicode and non-unicode string data type.
Destinated collumns in SQL are defined as varchar and char.

I have a Derived Column, called Column1, which has a value "PS" in the Expression field of the editor. SSIS detects it as a Unicode string[DT WSTR] in the Data Type property. In the source table, the column is a char datatype with the lenght of 4. How should I cast this in the expression field, so its converted to char(4). I would need the syntax for it, so I can use it in my Expression area. By the way, i am setting a constant value for this derived column, so in your example, pls use the value instead of column name. I would like to see, how it would be coded?? And also, is there a reference for the expression language somewhere for newbies??? thanks a bunch.

Second column is defined as String(9) in the flat file source. Then I have a Derived Column between source and Trash destination. The Derived Column adds a new column to the datd flow. The expression is as shown below : (DT_DBTIMESTAMP)(SUBSTRING(Col2,1,2) + "/" + SUBSTRING(Col2,4,3) + "/" + SUBSTRING(Col2,8,2))
The data is loading into the database successfully, where I was expecting it to fail. I placed a data viewer and saw the following result set.

Can anyone repeat this problem or am I missing something? I have got SP1 and Hotfix installed.

Hello forum, Is it possible to convert a date stored as a string into a datetime with integration services 2005? My attempts with the €œdata conversion€? fail. The string type form of the date is €˜yyyy-mm-dd€™ and the desired result for use in a Union All is €˜dd/mm/yyyy 12:00:00AM.€™ This outcome is needs so that match on the date can populate a fact table, as the results are coming from two different databases. Hi I am having this problem. I have created a stored proc that uses dynamic sql. Now this works fine when I use it in Query Analyzer.

When I run
rptDetailedAuditsIssued '','','','1/1/2000','1/1/2001'in query editor it runs fine. But gives me that error every time I run it in SSRS. I think I got this problem but in earlier cases I used to set the param values to null in Repservices and it worked but its not working this time. This time it stops complaining but does generate any fields.
