How To Abort From A Replication Process
Nov 25, 2005Hi guys.
View 1 RepliesHi guys.
View 1 Replieshi, I have not done any replication process before . but I am trying to learn it . so I have the sql server reside in a window NT4.0 (first NT server )and I am using window workstation which has a client utility to manage the database. What I am thinking to do is to have a nother pc that has a window NT4.0 (second NT server) and sql server 6.5 installed. so what is my question.
Can I control the replication process from the workstation by using the utility tools to replicate the database from the first NT server ( source database ) into the second NT server
thanks

Hi guys.
i had configured a merge replication betwen 2 server and i was running fine. but due to network problems my network admin has changed the ip address and name of the publisher, distributor and subscriber.
i just want to delete all the publication and subscription.. but i cannt' do this.. i m getting some sql server error..
is there any command that i can execute to reset the replication process that will delete all the publication and subcription. and then i create a new publication and subscription
Thanks and looking forward.

hey. I have a formview - inertitemtemplate. In here I have a button with CommandName="Insert". In code behind under FormView1.ItemInserting I want to be able to abort the inserting in some cases. Is this possible?
View 1 Replies View RelatedOn several occasions I have experienced crashes while running an SSIS package in debug mode. It happens when I start process on Control Flow table and click on Data Flow tab to monitor progress. I have forwarded the error reports and have searched the boards for similar references. Is this problem going to be fixed?

Hi,
I am trying to replicate a production database server,on sql server 2000 at a particular geographic location to a new failover database server on sql server 2000 in a different geographic location via internet. The intention here is to use the failover database during times when the production server is down or busy and the synchronization needs to be sceduled for every 10 min.
It will be of huge help if any expert could give the detailed process involved and any precautions that need to be taken. I also need to keep inmind to use the ever/odd sequence number generator during the replication implementation.
Also, Whether to use row-level or column-level tracking?
thanks

I am getting this error on replication and don't know why. Any ideas?
The process could not read file '\NJRARSVR00E9d$sqldatasystemMSSQL$P001ReplD atauncNJRARSVR00E9$P001_PTR_PTR20040707104224s napshot.pre' due to OS error 5.
One of our users tried to set replication solution in a sqlserver (the idea was given up).
SQL Server added in each table a column related to replication.
We want to remove theses columns and I used the following script :
select 'ALTER TABLE dbo.'+object_name(id)+' DROP CONSTRAINT '+object_name(constid)+' GO'
+'ALTER TABLE dbo.'+object_name(id)+' DROP COLUMN '+'msrepl_tran_version GO'
from sysconstraints where object_name(constid) like '%msrep%'
Question:
1. I want to know how to introduce a carraige return in order to have some thing like this :
...
ALTER TABLE dbo.T_CommandCopyFile
DROP CONSTRAINT DF__T_Command__msrep__44AB0736
GO
ALTER TABLE dbo.T_CommandCopyFile
DROP COLUMN msrepl_tran_version
...
2. Is there any other solution to do this more simply ?

Hi All
I am getting this error during Merge Replication "Unable to synchronize the row because the row was updated by a different process outside of replication."
I could not reproduce this error in my development enviornment, can anyone tell me what is cause of the above error and how do I reproduce this error in my development machine? I am able to get which is outside process?
The Conflict Type is 10 for above error which is logged into Conflict Table.
Thanks
Everyday between 18:00 and 20:00 nearly 1000 PDA Subsriber anonymously
synchronise via Merge Replication and at least two time he have the error :

Hi,
I need information on adjusting the priority of the replication thread(s) within SQL Server 2000. All I've been able to find is how-to's on adjusting the priority of the SQL Server process itself, as well as information on how to adjust the relative priority of changes made to the database by subscribers.
Here's the situation, from time to time our replication system goes down, it starts itself up after waiting 5 minutes but this causes a problem. When its starting up it seems to be taking up far too many CPU cycles. As such the server is unable to process SQL queries, which forces its subscribers to time out. This is a bad thing as the subscribers are control systems on an assembly line. What I want to do is lower the priority of replication so that the server can still process queries while the replication agent is restarting itself. Is this possible? If so how can it be done?
Thanks,

We are using MSDTC to handle our transactions and some clients seem to be getting these errors more and more when we went to framework 2.0. Any ideas what could be causing this?
Before in framework 1.1 we would ask our clients to re-register their computer into the domain and/or rename their computer and this worked but it seems like in framework 2.0 it doesn't do the trick. Also, the wrong dns setup causes this too but after trying to fix both things it still doesn't work. I believe this error means either the server has finished the transaction and can't find the client to return the result or the active directory account/computer account is corrupted. Any ideas?
The transaction has already been implicitly or explicitly committed or aborted.

Hello everybody,
I'm trying to setup transaction replication between 2 servers. This is a
one-way replication: Server A to Server B, not Server B to Server A.
I am able to replicate all the tables except one. I added
commands to the agent so that it would create an output file, possibly with
more or better information.

Hi there,
We're going to use replication on our database. There are tables without any primary key.
Is a primary key necessary for replication?
I have also antoher question: We want to replicate the whole OLTP database (size 30 GB).
Is snapshot replication a suitable mechanisme for this? I thougt snapshot replication overwrites all of the data, not only changed data. Or should we use another replication method?
Thanks in advance,
Patrick de Jong
This morning I needed to update some bad address's in our production DB. I ran this query in ISQLW:
UPDATE mytable SET city = 'blah' WHERE city <> 'blah'
GO
it should have been:
UPDATE mytable SET city = 'blah' WHERE city <> 'blah' AND name = 'blah'
GO
So I basically started updating my entire DB rather than just a handful of records. The query seemed to be running too long (30seconds) then I noticed and clicked the Cancel button. Does this transaction get rolled back when you click cancel? Im not sure where to look to see if the rollback occurred.?
I do have a way to re-update all the address's and a backup but Ive never restored and Im not sure I even need to. I could also run a query to group all the address's but it will be very difficult to tell what got updated. Where talking about 500k records.
Thanks!
Hello,
I am connecting with various sqlservers in a package to get the information. If connection failed with any sqlserver, package failed after 3 tries.
I would like that if connection failed with any sqlserver, package should not end rather move ahead and connecto next sqlserver.
I already tried to increase the number of error from 3 to 1000 but still package failed as soon sqlserver connection failed.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.

Context: I have a web page that uplaods a file that is then imported to the database via an SSIS package.
Problem: If and when the package encounters an error, I want to surface that error to the user via the web page.
Approach: I derived my own class from the DefaultEvents class and then overrode the OnError event handler to catch any errors raised during package execution. I then pass my class to the package Execute method.
Results: The OnError is triggered, but I don't know how to abort package execution nor how to pass the error context to the user. I tried raising a custom exception in the OnError handler, but it failed to propogate to the calling code (ie the code that executes the package).
Another approach would be to write to a database table and then do a query from my web page after the package is done executing (alternatively, I could generate a log file). Seems like a lot of work though. All I want is to pass the error context back to my calling code so I can tell the user what happened.
Thanks in advance for your help.
I am using the sample SSIS Event Log reports provided by Microsoft: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=526e1fce-7ad5-4a54-b62c-13ffcd114a73&displaylang=en
The Event Log Summary report is showing a negative value for #Abort. Why is the aborted count negative?
Hi Guys, I have a SQL block which I want to run based on some values in the DB
-----------------
I am implementing the check as follows..
---------------------
PRINT 'Checking the DATABASE name and Schema Version '
SET NOCOUNT ON
CREATE TABLE chkversion (table_name VARCHAR(30), id INT, reason varchar(200))
GO
DECLARE @MSG CHAR(1)
print @MSG
GO
/* Make sure user is running the right script and right db user */
declare
@ver varchar(100),
@username varchar(100),
@cnt int
begin
select @ver = value from propertytable where id = 33086
select @cnt = count(*) from propertytable where parentid=5001 and propertyid = 726;
select @username = db_name(dbid)from master.dbo.sysprocesses where status ='runnable'
insert into chkversion (table_name, id, reason) values ('', -1, 'You are logging on Database - ' + @username)
insert into error_report (table_name, id, reason) values ('', -1, 'Your agile database version is ' + @ver)
if (@ver != '9.0.144'or @cnt !=0) begin
insert into chkversion (table_name, id, reason) values ('', -1, 'STOP: Your Schema Version and/or database version are not at original 90SP2. Please abort!')
end
else
insert into chkversion (table_name, id, reason) values ('', -1, 'PROCEED: You can run this script to upgrade your db schema from 9.0.144 to 9.0.178')
end
GO
DECLARE @MSG CHAR(200)
SELECT @MSG = convert(varchar(255), reason) from chkversion where id = -1
print @MSG
GO
DECLARE @MSG CHAR(1)
print @MSG
GO
SET NOCOUNT OFF
----------------------------------------------------------
After this, I want user to press 1 to continue or CTRL +C to abort based on the output message from above.
How Do I implement this feature?
In Oracle, I use...
Accept agproceed number prompt 'Enter 1 to continue or CTRL C to abort.';
Hi,
I was trying to extract data from the source server using OLEDB Source and SQL Server Destination when i encountered this error:
"Transaction (Process ID 135) was deadlocked on lock resources with another process and has been chosen as the deadlock victim. Rerun the transaction.".
What must be done so that even if the table being queried is locked, i wouldn't experience any deadlock?

Hello all,
I am running into an interesting scenario on my desktop. I'm running developer edition on Windows XP Professional (9.00.3042.00 SP2 Developer Edition). OS is autopatched via corporate policy and I saw some patches go in last week. This machine is also a hand-me-down so I don't have a clean install of the databases on the machine but I am local admin.
So, starting last week after a forced remote reboot (also a policy) I noticed a few of the databases didn't start back up. I chalked it up to the hard shutdown and went along my merry way. Friday however I know I shut my machine down nicely and this morning when I booted up, I was in the same state I was last Wenesday. 7 of the 18 databases on my machine came up with
FCB:pen: Operating system error 32(The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.) occurred while creating or opening file 'C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLDataTest.mdf'. Diagnose and correct the operating system error, and retry the operation.
and it also logs
FCB:pen failed: Could not open file C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLDataTest.mdf for file number 1. OS error: 32(The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.).
I've caught references to the auto close feature being a possible culprit, no dice as the databases in question are set to False. Recovery mode varies on the databases from Simple to Full. If I cycle the SQL Server service, whatever transient issue it was having with those files is gone.
As much as I'd love to disable the virus scanner, network security would not be amused. The data and log files appear to have the same permissions as unaffected database files. Nothing's set to read only or archive as I've caught on other forums as possible gremlins. I have sufficient disk space and the databases are set for unrestricted growth.
Any thoughts on what I could look at? If it was everything coming up in RECOVERY_PENDING it's make more sense to me than a hit or miss type of thing I'm experiencing now.
Dear list
Im designing a package that uses Microsofts preplog.exe to prepare web log files to be imported into SQL Server
What Im trying to do is convert this cmd that works into an execute process task
D:SSIS ProcessPrepweblogProcessLoad>preplog ex.log > out.log
the above dos cmd works 100%
However when I use the Execute Process Task I get this error
[Execute Process Task] Error: In Executing "D:SSIS ProcessPrepweblogProcessLoadpreplog.exe" "" at "D:SSIS ProcessPrepweblogProcessLoad", The process exit code was "-1" while the expected was "0".
There are two package varaibles
User::gsPreplogInput = ex.log
User::gsPreplogOutput = out.log
Here are the task properties
RequireFullFileName = True
Executable = D:SSIS ProcessPrepweblogProcessLoadpreplog.exe
Arguments =
WorkingDirectory = D:SSIS ProcessPrepweblogProcessLoad
StandardInputVariable = User::gsPreplogInput
StandardOutputVariable = User::gsPreplogOutput
StandardErrorVariable =
FailTaskIfReturnCodeIsNotSuccessValue = True
SuccessValue = 0
TimeOut = 0
thanks in advance

How do I use the execute process task? I am trying to unzip the file using the freeware PZUnzip.exe and I tried to place the entire command in a batch file and specified the working directory as the location of the batch file, but the task fails with the error:
SSIS package "IngramWeeklyPOS.dtsx" starting.
Error: 0xC0029151 at Unzip download file, Execute Process Task: In Executing "C:ETLPOSDataIngramWeeklyUnzip.bat" "" at "C:ETLPOSDataIngramWeekly", The process exit code was "1" while the expected was "0".
Task failed: Unzip download file
SSIS package "IngramWeeklyPOS.dtsx" finished: Success.
Then I tried to specify the exe directly in the Executable property and the agruments as the location of the zip file and the directory to unzip the files in, but this time it fails with the following message:
SSIS package "IngramWeeklyPOS.dtsx" starting.
Error: 0xC002F304 at Unzip download file, Execute Process Task: An error occurred with the following error message: "%1 is not a valid Win32 application".
Task failed: Unzip download file
SSIS package "IngramWeeklyPOS.dtsx" finished: Success.
The command in the batch file when run from the command line works perfectly and unzips the file, so there is absolutely no problem with the command, I believe it is just the set up of the variables on the execute process task editor under Process. Any input on resolving this will be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Monisha
I am designing a utility which will keep two similar databases in sync. In other words, copying the new data from db1 to db2 and updating the old data from db1 to db2.
For this I am making use of the 'Tablediff' utility which when provided with server name, database, table info will generate .sql file which can be used to keep the target table in sync with the source table.
I am using the Execute Process Task and the process parameters I am providing are:
WorkingDirectory : C:Program Files (x86)Microsoft SQL Server90COM
Executable : C:SQL_bat_FilesSQL5TC_CTIcustomer.bat
The customer.bat file will have the following code:
tablediff -sourceserver "LV-SQL5" -sourcedatabase "TC_CTI" -sourcetable "CUSTOMER_1" -destinationserver "LV-SQL2" -destinationdatabase "TC_CTI" -destinationtable "CUSTOMER" -f "c:SQL_bat_Filessql5TC_CTIsql_filescustomer1"
the .sql file will be generated at: C:SQL_bat_Filessql5TC_CTIsql_filescustomer1.
The Problem:
The Execute Process Task is working fine, ie., the tables are being compared correctly and the .SQL file is being generated as desired. But the task as such is reporting faliure with the following error :
[Execute Process Task] Error: In Executing "C:SQL_bat_FilesSQL5TC_CTIpackage_occurrence.bat" "" at "C:Program Files (x86)Microsoft SQL Server90COM", The process exit code was "2" while the expected was "0". ]
Some of you may suggest to just set the ForceExecutionResult = Success (infact this is what I am doing now just to get the program working), but, this is not what I desire.
Can anyone help ?
I'm pulling data from Oracle db and load into MS-SQL 2008.For my data type checks during the data load process, what are options to ensure that the data being processed wouldn't fail. such that I can verify first in-hand with the target type of data and then if its valid format load it into destination table else mark it with error flag and push into errors table... All this at the row level.One way I can think of is to load into a staging table then get the source & destination table -column data types, compare them and proceed.
should I just try loading the data directly and if it fails try trouble shooting(which could be a difficult task as I wouldn't know what caused error...)
Hi Folks,
I am having this table locking issue that I need to start paying attention to as its getting more frequent.
The problem is that the data in the tables is live finance data that needs to be changed and viewed almost real time so what I have picked up so far is that using 'table Hints' may not be a good idea.
I have a guy at work telling me that introducing a data access layer is the only way to solve this, I am not convinced but havnt enough knowledge to back my own feeling up. (asp system not .net).
Thanks in advance

Hi,
I'm trying to upload the ASPNETDB.MDF file to a hosting server via FTP, and everytime when it was uploaded half way(40% or 50%)
I would get an error message saying:
"550 ASPNETDB.MDF: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process"
and then the upload failed.
I'm using SQL Express. Does anybody know what's the cause?
Thanks a lot
Hi. When I try to start a package manually clicking the Start Debugging button I get this after a little while:
Cannot process request because the process (3880) has exited. (Microsoft.DataTransformationServices.VsIntegration)
How can I prevent this from happening? This happens every time I want to start the package and
every time the process id is different. Here it is 3880.
