I need to conect to a SSAS using SQL Server autentication, how could I configure my SQL Server in order to access by SQL server autentication?
I can conect to my SQL Server but when i try to conect to the SSAS from the Management Studio i only have the option of using Windows Autentication. [My PC isn´t in the same domain that the SQL Server and it could´t be]
I've severals reports that connect to an ORACLE database, in the RDL file i've the save password but when i open the report again ou i use the sharepoint report viewer the username an password of the oracle database is always asked.
how can i configure the RDL not to ask the password again ?!
I have an excel workbook, that has a pivot table in it where the data source is an OLAP cube. My problem occurs on the client machine, logged in as the client. I remote into the PC, and create a pivot table using the OLAP cube connection. I create the pivot table and everything works fine - I am able to browse the data with no issues. Once I exit the Excel Workbook, and come back in - I am no longer able to connect to the datasource. I have tried both saving the password in the connection and not saving it. It has made no difference.
I am facing a very weird issue in our SSAS database. We have several roles with 'Read definition' access. None of these roles are able to see data in the cubes. I have checked these roles over and over and there is no problem with the definition. Each of the roles have been given read access to Data Source, Cube and Dimensions.
The users are able to access the definition and structure of the cube i.e. they can see the measures & dimensions available but when they drag measures and dimension attributes in the browser (SSMS) OR execute an MDX - they get null values. The roles with 'Full Control (administrator)' access are able to see all the data without any issues.  I have tried the following:
1. Deleted all roles and re-created. 2. Created roles directly on SSAS DB. 3. Deployed all objects and processed the DB. Â Each time only the admins are able to see the data.
I know how to create an alias for a SQL server instance, so instead of MyServerMyInstanceName, I can type MyInstanceName into my SSMS connection box. But SSAS does not allow me to connect with the alias.
I've looked all over and found plenty of documentation that SQL 2005 and 2008 doesn't allow the use of instance aliases for SSAS. I've even found notes from Microsoft saying "we'll fix this in a future edition." I have not found any indications or notes as to whether or not this has been fixed.
Can aliases be created for 2012 SSAS? Or is this still not available?
Hi guys, This is my first post. Could anyone help me out? I am trying to refresh a cube that i created by using a new script command but i get the following error "the script contains the statement, which is not allowed." On the microsoft page i've read that for refreshing you need to create a new script. Is there another way for refreshing the cube?
I am trying to get a date diff in a named calculation using inner join I am getting
Subquery returned more than 1 value. This is not permitted when the subquery follows =, !=, <, <= , >, >= or when the subquery is used as an expression. #
I have checked online and have been able to get some of my codes right by using the where condition in place of the inner join, but I have not been able to work around the datediff one
(select DATEDIFF(day,TDate,[DID]) FROM [dv].[dbo].[Dail] as D inner join [dv].[dbo].[ANT] as A on a.AID = d.AID)
I can detach/attach SSAS database. But I have a software that protects(backs up) the files of the SSAS Database.
What the customer needs is to be able to take these backed up files and port it to a different server and attach it there. But the new server complains that these files have no corresponding detach-log files.
The customer doesn't want to backup and restore the SSAS databases.
Hi, I have set up a linked server and I am succesfully running MDX queries using OPENQUERY against an SSAS cube. However, occasionally I am getting the error:
OLE DB provider "MSOLAP" for linked server "MyLinkedServer" returned message "Internal error: An unexpected error occurred (file 'pfoledbreader.cpp', line 796, function 'PFDBReaderOledb::Bind').".
I've been doing research on the web trying to find if it's possible to create a Report Model that is based on a Data Source that is NOT SQL Server and NOT SSAS.
Specifically I'd like to be able to build a Report Model on a Web Server (or multiple web services).
Does anyone have any information relating to this? Based on my research it looks like there's a few interfaces that need to be implemented (such as ISemanticModelGenerator, etc.).
I did find a post relating to using ODBC data sources for a Report Model and the recommended solution was Linked Tables in SQL Server or UDM in SSAS. Both cases don't look feasible for a Web Service-based Data Source.
Running PivotTable reports in Excel 2007 which are linked to a SSAS Server 2008 R2 may consume high amount of memory and cause high CPU utilization.
Detail:users may set 7 or more dimensions in row section of a Pivottable report. Some of those dimensions were containing more than 10000 members.
When refreshing such a report, Analysis Services is consuming more than 16 GB of memory, cpu utilization often goes up to 80%.
To run this report it takes arround 10 minutes. During this time other users may be unable to run reports on the server. Is there a way to control expensive MDX queries caused by some users to ensure Service availability?
I would like to know best practices for setting up my environment. To date, I've had everything running on a single server. That would include the database engine, SSIS, SSAS and SSRS. The box configuration is dual hyperthreaded 3.6GHz Xenon with 4GB of RAM on Windows Server 2003. I just received a much larger server and want to configure it to maximize our environment. The new box contains four 2.6GHz Quad Core processors with 16GB of RAM. I would like to know if I should split the ETL and database engine from SSAS and SSRS, or should this box have enough horse power to house it all and use my other box as a dev environment. Also, we are planning to purchase Performance Point 2007 primarily for PAS and Scorecard Manager so please take that into consideration as well. Any comments are greatly appreciated.
Is it possible to install 2 SSAS instance (one default and one named) and have them access a single sql server instance (default) all on the same server?
we have our cubes in Server A and SQL DB resides on Server B (we are on SQL 2014), from last couple of days are cube started failing due to below error:
OLE DB or ODBC error: Protocol error in TDS stream; HY000; Protocol error in TDS stream; HY000; Protocol error in TDS stream; HY000; Communication link failure; 08S01; TCP Provider: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host. ; 08S01
I have been going through some blogs to understand the error but don't find any specific yet.
public Set DoSomthing(Set toBeProcessed, Set measuresToWorkWith)The set measurseToWorkWith is passed as {[Measures].[Measure1], [Measures].[Measure2] ...}
with the measures being real or query-scoped calculated members.
To get the value of the measure for each tuple in the set toBeProcessed, I create an Expression for each tuple (measure) in the set measuresToWorkWith then for each tuple in toBeProcessed call expression.Calculate(tuple) which returns a MDXValue.
My problem is that in order to make the code generic I need to get the real (.NET) data type of the MDXValue. The class only has explicit conversion methods ToInt16() etc which implies that the data type is known at design time.
However, if one of the measures is a query-scoped calculation then it could return a .NET double, int, bool or string.
If the measure is real then I can look up its metadata. However, it appears that if it is a formula (scoped member) then are all bets are off?
Good day community. I have a question about SQL Server 2005 Anywhere edition which i currently installed on my desktop. Does it fit my needs which stated on the subject? If no, what should i select for my projects?
I have recently upgraded to SQL2014 on Win2012. The Access front end program works fine.
But, previously created Excel reports with built in MS Queries now fail with the above error for users with MS 2013. The queries still work for users still using MS 2007.Â
I also cannot create any new queries and get the same error message. If I log on as myself on the domain to another PC with 2007 installed it works fine, so I don't think it is anything to do with AD groups or permissions.
I've been developing desktop client-server and web apps and have used Access and SQL Server Standard most of the time. I'm looking into using SQL CE, and had a few questions that I can't seem to get a clear picture on:
- The documentation for CE says that it supports 256 simultaneous connections and offers the Isolation levels, Transactions, Locking, etc with a 4GB DB. But most people say that CE is strictly a single-user DB and should not be used as a DB Server. Could CE be extended for use as a multi-user DB Server by creating a custom server such as a .NET Remoting Server hosted through a Windows Service (or any other custom host) on a machine whereby the CE DB would run in-process with this server on the machine which would then be accessed by multiple users from multiple machines?? Clients PCs -> Server PC hosting Remoting Service -> ADO.NET -> SQL CE
- and further more can we use Enterprise Services (Serviced Components) to connect to SQL CE and further extend this model to offer a pure high-quality DB Server? Clients PCs -> Server PC hosting Remoting Service -> Enterprise Services -> ADO.NET -> SQL CE
Seems quite doable to me, but I may be wrong..please let me know either ways
When i am trying to start our hospital software based on SQL server 2000, it shows Following Error.Search Condition is not valid, (DBNETLIB) Connection Open (connect()).  SQL server does not exist or excess denied. Due to Fetch data.I run our software in Windows 8.1, while it smothly runs in previous version of Windows XP and 7.
I have a 3 node cluster on which I have installed SSAS as it's own insntance. I have created this as a named instance and can connect to it by serverinstance if I'm on the server itself. However from my desktop I get the error saying instance was not found on server name.
I have defined an alternate port and setup firewall rules and can connect via server:port but not serverinstance. Prior to making this change SSAS was running on default port of 2383 and I could connect just by servername.
I have read many articles for previous versions saying that clustered SSAS will always use 2383 and that you must connect just using servername. However and this is were it gets strange. I have a 2 node UAT cluster with SSAS setup exactly the same way I've described above and I can connect from my desktop as serverinstance.
Should I be able to connect as serverinstances for a named clustered instance in 2012 ?
Hello allWould it be possible to migrate the MS Access 2000 to MS SQL Server2000?My application is using MS Access 2000 as database and as userinterface such as forms. Now, I want to migrate the backend databasefrom MS Access 2000 to MS SQL Server 2000. However, I want to keep theMS Access 2000 interface. Would it be possible? If I migrate the MS Access to SQL Server, would the queries, back-endVBA, macro, tables and forms be affected? Do I need to change the MSAccess data type to SQL server supported data type?Which tool I can use to do the migration? Upsizing wizard or exportingthe Access database and then importing it to the SQL server? Thanks in advanceCheersBon
I am trying to connect through ODBC connectivity, but it will not allow me to do so. I have investigated this matter. It leads me back to the server, because as I was configuring my client side database. It kept asking for the DSN(datasource name), but I was unable to choose one because there wasn't one to choose. Which is my current dilemma, How can I do this and have it available to choose from the server to satisfy the Access database?
I went to the domain where the software resides but I don't know what steps to take? I also found an interesting piece on microsoft about Kerberos, but I can't follow along according to the instructions it has. I have Access 2003 & SQL SERVER 2005, HELP...!
Basically, this is right off the heels of the install. I setup the server without the connectivity, but it is running the current configuration.
Hi, Can anyone tell me how i can access an application or open tables in MS sql server that are in MS Access. Its urgent and any help will be appriaciated.
hi, In SSAS is it possible for lookup table, for instance: if the purchase goes above 500 then rating is 5,if 400 then rating 4...the purchase values like 500,400 are in one dimension table. hence the rating are in another dimension table.
Is it possible to make a lookup with these dimension table by providing rating?
One of our SSAS 2005 environments gives the following error in Management Studio if the hostname is specified. If the IP address is used SSMS is able to connect. Any help would be appreciated.

Can someone please tell me the difference between these two pieces of software? I am looking for a *concise* definition of both packages, what they do, what they don't do, and how they work together. We use SQL Server and are working to create a data warehouse from our production db.
We use SSAS for a few OLAP cubes but I have read that it is recommend to first warehouse the data then build cubes on top of the warehouse? I assume you use SSIS to build the warehouse?
Any links would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your helpful advice.
Can I implement a slowly changing dimension type 2 in SSAS. I am looking at creating an SSAS cube which can pull data directly from an operational OLTP database. The source database does not maitain history of changes for the dimensions, and I wanted to know if SSAS will help me keep that history by defining certain dimensions as a SCD. If so how do I define that rule. All tutorials I have read only skim on that topic and don't describe the steps/ways to define it in SSAS. Any help would be appreciated.
Last time I worked with SSAS and build a Cube. Because I€™m now very happy with the front-end excel 2003 or excel 2007 I thought I build my own Report with SSRS. Now there is something I don€™t understand: I build a Hierarchy in SSAS that a want to use in SSRS. Is there a chance to use it without any features? Have I to use parameters or something another? In my opinion it makes any sense to build a hierarchy new, because it€™s already exists in SSAS.
