We plan to process our SSAS Cube nightly after our data warehouse is loaded (SSIS package) using an SQL Agent Job.
1. What is the best option to automate the processing of our cube? 2. Can this be added to our SQL Agent Job? 3. As we will only be adding new dimensions and fact records, will be use Process Add? 4. Does the initial load require Process Full? 5. How can we configure a processing option before the automated execution?
after moving off VS debugger and into management studio to exercise our SQLCLR sp, we notice that the 2nd execution gets an error suggesting that our static SqlCommand object is getting reused from the 1st execution (of the sp under mgt studio). If this is expected behavior, we have no problem limiting our statics to only completely reusable objects but would first like to know if this is expected? Is the fact that debugger doesnt show this behavior also expected?

Hi I am slowly getting to grips with SQL Server. As a part of this, I have been attempting to work on producing more efficient queries. This post is regarding what appears to be a discrepancy between the SQL Server execution plan and the actual time taken by a query to run. My brief is to produce an attendance system for an education establishment (I presume you know I'm not an A-Level student completing a project :p ). Circa 1.5m rows per annum, testing with ~3m rows currently. College_Year could strictly be inferred from the AttDateTime however it is included as a field because it a part of just about every PK this table is ever likely to be linked to. Indexes are not fully optimised yet. However, my understanding is the cached plan substitutes literals for parameters anyway. In any case - the first query cost is listed as 99.52% of the batch, the sproc 0.48% (comparing the IO, cpu costs etc support this). BUT the text output is:(10639 row(s) affected) First query took: 596 milli-Seconds (10639 row(s) affected) Second query took: 2856 milli-SecondsI appreciate that logical and physical performance are not one and the same but can why is there such a huge discrepancy between the two? They are tested on a dedicated test server, and repeated running and switching the order of the queries elicits the same results. Sample data can be provided if requested but I assumed it would not shed much light. BTW - I know that additional indexes can bring the plans and execution time closer together - my question is more about the concept. I want to create a form (Infopath) or web page where the user can request for a new database I want the user to fill in the required info (like the size, name columns.....) and ones they're done filling the required info, they will click on a button and that should trigger the database automation script to run and if the database with the requested name is not created, the script should create a database for the user.
I want to automate a query that I am running everyday. So, what I want to do is run it at a particular time of the day say 11:00pm. Is this possible? Should I create a stored procedure? And also, I want to run an update statement on a particular table on the first of every month. If anyone can give me some advice on this, I would appreciate it.

I'm using SQL 2000, which is integrated with a VB.NET 2003 app.I have an Audit trigger that logs changes to tables. I want to applythis trigger to many different tables. It's the same trigger, with theexception of the table name. I could manually change the table name inthe trigger and create it, over and over, but I'd like to automatethis - by iterating through the collection of tables and passing thetablename to something that would create the audit trigger for thattable.Any ideas? I have multiple machines (x80) all with SQLExpress installed and a Database instance (MYDB).
This database is part of a demonstration software install. (which is limited).
I need to run a restore from a .BAK file to reset this software to the original version of the database. But this restore MUST happen without user interaction (Users are 17 yo students who know less SQL than me !!!)

We are working on a project and are using SQL reporting services for reporting feature. Can somebody guide me how can we automate the testing of such reports.
Unfortunately the deployment Utility does not support adding dll's to the GAC. Still I want to automate it. (By the way on target machines GacUtil is not present). I tried to make a setup project that only adds a dll to the GAC, however the setup project still makes an application folder. How can I turn this off?
Hopefully, there is a way to do this. I work with two SQL servers. One is our production server the other is our test server. In order to test various things, I often need to copy the source data from one server to the other. Most of our programming is in VBA. It's easy enough to open a recordset and fill it with the data I need from the production server, then upload each record, one at a time, to the test server. The problem is that I am dealing with a massive amount of data and this takes a long time.
I have found that I can use the import task in SQL Server Enterprise and it transfers the data extremely quickly. Is there a way, preferably using VBA, that I could automate this import task process?
We can use rs.exe to publish a report automatically, but how do we do the reverse - remove a report automatically?
Is there a way by using a MS utility?
Is there a way by writing code, using library objects?

So for this the way I am doing it now is I have 2 "Lookup" Components setup... It works fine... However as I said when I get say 20 or so it gets really tiresome. I was wondering if I could feed it a EXCEL or XML file saying these are the fields that need a value lookup where:
FIELD - Project - FIELDNAME VALUE - OUTPUT VALUE
So with this example I would have a file saying something like this: STATUS - Project Name - Status - STATUS_VALUE RESPONSIBILITY - Project Name - Responsibility - RESPONSIBILITY_VALUE
Then it runs whatever and returns the *_VALUE for each row it goes through... Any suggestions?

I’d like to update rows matching a certain criteria each night automatically and then send an email.
I have a table with a Status column and an Expire Date column. I want to update rows where the Status = Open and the Expire Date < The current Date by changing the Status to Closed then send an HTML email. Do I have to write a program and schedule it to run or is there a way to do this in MS SQL? I looked at using a stored procedure but I don’t see how to schedule one to run (other than at startup) and I’m not sure if the GETDATE function can be called.
I am currently using MSDE as the Db for a website and using (cheating?) enterprise manager i have created and scheduled a backup job that the agent runs.
Now I am wanting to upgrade the Database to SQL2005 Express but I want to have a similar scheduled backup job. From the reading of the OLBs it appears I have to manually create a script but I don't know how to schedule the running of the script.
So my questions are: 1. How do you schedule the running of a back up script in SQL Express? and,
2. Is there a tool that automates the creation of a script similar to how you do it in the old Enterprise manager?
