ODBC Stored Procedure Call Rolls Back

Apr 18, 2008

Hi,

I have a ms access application with a button. Clicking this button runs a sql server 2000 stored procedure. The stored procedure updates product information. When I click the button it updates the products fine. When the users (with lesser permissions than me) click the button, no error message is sent but the transactions are rolled back. Does anyone know why or how this could happen? Please let me know before I pull out the last strands of hair from my head.

Thank you,
Anand

Call Oracle Stored Procedure With Output Refcursor From Ssis

Nov 6, 2007

I would like to call a oracle stored procedure which looks like this

Create procedure in oracle sql plus

CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE GroupsPackage
AS
TYPE CURSOR_TYPE IS REF CURSOR;
PROCEDURE usp_SelectGroups (results_cursor OUT CURSOR_TYPE);
END;
/
CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE BODY GroupsPackage
AS
PROCEDURE usp_SelectGroups (results_cursor OUT CURSOR_TYPE)
AS
BEGIN
OPEN results_cursor FOR
SELECT GroupID, GroupName, GroupDescription, LastUpdateDate
FROM Groups
ORDER BY GroupName;
END;
END;
/

Execute procedure in oracle sql plus

set autoprint on;
var x refcursor;
groupspackage.usp_selectgroups(:x);
end;
/

This works in sql plus. But when I try to run the same (or tried everything) in the execute statement in ssis using execute sql task, I am not able to make it work. I am getting an error message. Please advice, what am I doing wrong. Or is this possible or is there any other way to get this working.

SSIS Hard Time Getting Back XML Return Data From Stored Procedure Call Executed By Execute SQL Task

Aug 9, 2006

I'm having a hard time to getting back an xml data back from a stored procedure executed by an Execute SQL task.

I'm passing in an XML data as a parameter and getting back resulting XML data as a parameter. The Execute SQL task is using ADO connection to do this job. The two parameters(in/out) are type of "string" and mapped as string.

When I execute the task, I get the following error message.

[Execute SQL Task] Error: Executing the query "dbo.PromissorPLEDataUpload" failed with the following error: "The incoming tabular data stream (TDS) remote procedure call (RPC) protocol stream is incorrect. Parameter 2 ("@LogXML"): Data type 0xE7 has an invalid data length or metadata length.". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly.

I also tried mapping the parameter as XML type, but that didn't work either.

If anyone knows what's going on or how to fix this problem please let me know. All I want to do is save returning XML data in the parameter to a local package variable.

Thanks

Transact SQL :: Generic Store Procedure Call Without Output Parameters But Catching Output

Sep 21, 2015

Inside some TSQL programmable object (a SP/or a query in Management Studio)I have a parameter containing the name of a StoreProcedure+The required Argument for these SP. (for example it's between the brackets [])

EX1 : @SPToCall : [sp_ChooseTypeOfResult 'Water type']
EX2 : @SPToCall : [sp_ChooseTypeOfXMLResult 'TABLE type', 'NODE XML']
EX3 : @SPToCall : [sp_GetSomeResult]

I can't change thoses SP, (and i don't have a nice output param to cach, as i would need to change the SP Definition)All these SP 'return' a 'select' of 1 record the same datatype ie: NVARCHAR. Unfortunately there is no output param (it would have been so easy otherwise. So I am working on something like this but I 'can't find anything working

DECLARE @myFinalVarFilledWithCachedOutput
NVARCHAR(MAX);
DECLARE @SPToCall NVARCHAR(MAX) = N'sp_ChooseTypeOfXMLResult
''TABLE type'', ''NODE XML'';'
DECLARE @paramsDefintion = N'@CatchedOutput NVARCHAR(MAX) OUTPUT'

[code]...

I try to do an ADO.NET 2.0-VB 2005 programming in my VB 2005 Express to get @percentage printed out in the VB Form1. I read some articles in the websites and MSDN about this task and I am very confused about "How to Work with Output Parameters & Report their Values in VB Forms": (1) Do I need the Form.vb [Design] and specify its properties of the object and classes I want to printout? (2) After the SqlConnectionString and the connection.Open(), how can I bring the value of @percentage to the Form.vb? (3) The following is my imcomplete, crude draft code:

Imports System.Data
Imports System.Data.SqlClient
Imports System.Data.SqlTypes

Public Class Form1

Dim connectionString As String = "Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;Initial Catalog=pubs;Integrated Security=SSPI;"

Dim connection As SqlConnection = New

SqlConnection(connectionString)

Try

connection.Open()

Dim command As SqlCommand = New SqlCommand("byroyalty", connection)

command.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure

etc.
////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
From the above-mentioned (1), (2) and (3), you can see how much I am lost/confused in attempting to do this task. Please help and give me some guidances and good key instructions for getting the output parameter printed out in the FORM.vb in my VB 2005 Express project.

Thanks in advance,

No Output Variable In Remote Procedure Call?

Sep 10, 2007

I'm calling a procedure on a remote Server (local SQL2005, remote SQL2005) and I need the return value.

Local:
declare @value int execute ('exec mbtest1.dbo.psybcis ?', @value OUTPUT) at [REMOTESQLSERVER] select @value

Remote:
create procedure [dbo].[psybcis] (@value int OUTPUT) as begin select @value = '13' end

I do not get a value in the OUTPUT variable - just NULL. Documentation says:
Execute a pass-through command against a linked server
{ EXEC | EXECUTE } ( { @string_variable | [ N ] 'command_string [ ? ] ' } [ + ...n ] [ { , { value | @variable [ OUTPUT ] } } [ ...n ] ] ) [ AS { LOGIN | USER } = ' name ' ] [ AT linked_server_name ] [;]
There is an OUTPUT parameter, but how does it work? Is my syntax wrong?

It works when using following syntax,
declare @value int exec [REMOTESQLSERVER].mbtest1.dbo.psybcis @value OUTPUT select @value
but I need to use this procedure call in a distributed transaction to a Sybase ASE server and this syntax is not allowed for cross-system-calls.
So first I want to get it work from SQL2005 to SQL2005.

Stored Procedure Timeout Expired Exception On Windows Forms (C#)

Oct 26, 2007

Hello. I've read some similar topics (most of them on this forum), but none of them helped.

I have a stored procedure which runs fine on SQL Server (in 0 ms). The problem occurs when i try to run it under a WindowsForm application (C#).

The following code

Code Block
SqlCommand cmdUpdate;
SqlConnection sqlCon = GetConnection();
cmdUpdate = new SqlCommand("StoredProcedure_Name", sqlCon);
cmdUpdate.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure;
sqlCon.Open();
cmdUpdate.CommandTimeout = 300;
cmdUpdate.ExecuteNonQuery();

produces the exception: "Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding." on the ExecuteNonQuery() line.

It's not a problem with the CommandTimeout or the ConnectionTimeout (from within the connection string), they are both set to 300 (and even when set to 0, the problem is the same).

It's very strange, because only two stored procedures don't work, the others work without any problems and under SQL Server (using EXEC stored_procedure) all of them work fine. It seems like the stored procedure is executed, but no response is returned to the client (the WinForm app), thus the timeout exception.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Using Output From A Stored Procedure As An Output Column In The OLE DB Command Transformation

Dec 8, 2006

I am working on an OLAP modeled database.

I have a Lookup Transformation that matches the natural key of a dimension member and returns the dimension key for that member (surrogate key pipeline stuff).

I am using an OLE DB Command as the Error flow of the Lookup Transformation to insert an "Inferred Member" (new row) into a dimension table if the Lookup fails.

The OLE DB Command calls a stored procedure (dbo.InsertNewDimensionMember) that inserts the new member and returns the key of the new member (using scope_identity) as an output.

What is the syntax in the SQL Command line of the OLE DB Command Transformation to set the output of the stored procedure as an Output Column?

I know that I can 1) add a second Lookup with "Enable memory restriction" on (no caching) in the Success data flow after the OLE DB Command, 2) find the newly inserted member, and 3) Union both Lookup results together, but this is a large dimension table (several million rows) and searching for the newly inserted dimension member seems excessive, especially since I have the ID I want returned as output from the stored procedure that inserted it.

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide.

System Stored Procedure Call From Within My Database Stored Procedure

Mar 28, 2007

I have a stored procedure that calls a msdb stored procedure internally. I granted the login execute rights on the outer sproc but it still vomits when it tries to execute the inner. Says I don't have the privileges, which makes sense.

How can I grant permissions to a login to execute msdb.dbo.sp_update_schedule()? Or is there a way I can impersonate the sysadmin user for the call by using Execute As sysadmin some how?

Thanks in advance

Stored Procedure's Call

Apr 7, 2008

Hi there. My problem is: I have two stored procedures.
1. SELECT A FROM B
2. SELECT C FROM D WHERE A = EXEC First procedure

The meaning: First procedure gets some Id from B table. The second one gets a DataSet by this Id number. The problem is that when I getting an Id from first proc I use SELECT, than in the second one I use EXEC, and in the end, seconf procedure returns two DataSets. The first contains an Id from first procedure, second contains a valid DataSet. Therefore my application falls because it suppose that valid data in first DataSet. Hoow can I call to stored procedure from another stored procedure without creating two DataSets?
P.S. I already tried to use return instead of select in the first procedure. Same result.
Thank you

How Do You Get A Result Set Back From A Stored Procedure

Oct 9, 2006

I am trying to get data back from stored procedure output arguments. I am in a Visual C++ enviroment calling the stored procedure via the ODBC function SQLExecDirect. When the stored procedure has only a single output argument, everything works fine. When there are multiple output arguments, I get an error "Invalid Cursor State' from the SQLFetch. This is telling me there is no result set.
Below is a pseudo code fragment which shows what I am doing.
I want to use SQLGetData to convert the data into C variables. I do not want to use SQLBindParameter or Parameter Markers.
Sql = "DECLARE @outarg1 int
DECLARE @outarg2 datetime
{CALL ProcName('Inarg1','Inarg2',.......@outarg1 OUTPUT,@outarg2 OUTPUT ) }
SELECT @outarg1,@outarg2 " ;
rc = SQLExecDirect(hstmt,Sql,strlen(Sql) )
if( rc == SQL_SUCCESS)
{
rc == SQLFetch(hstmt);
if(rc == SQL_ERROR)
{
SqlGetDiagRec(.........);
}
}
.....
When there is one out parameter, everything works OK.

When there are multiple out parameters, I get a SQL error state 24000 which is "Invalid Cursor State". This tells me there is no result set for the Fetch to act on.
The stored procedure is doing a select for each out parameter.
Any Idea why I get an error when using more than one out parameter

Call Stored Procedure In Loop

Oct 26, 2006

I have gridview display a list of users. I have added a column for a check box. If the box is checked I move the users to another table.I need to pass some parameter of or each row to a stored proc. My question. In the loop where I check if the checkbox is selected I need to call the stored procedure.Currently I do an open and closed inside the loop.What is best and most effficent  method of doing this should I open and close the connection outside the loop and change the procs parameters as loop through. System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection conn =
new System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection(
System.Configuration.ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["connString"].ConnectionString);
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand commChk = new System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand("storedProc", conn);
commChk.CommandType = System.Data.CommandType.StoredProcedure;
commChk.Parameters.AddWithValue("@mUID", ddMainUser.SelectedValue.ToString());
commChk.Parameters.AddWithValue("@sUId", gvUsers.Rows[i].Cells[2].Text);
commChk.Connection.Open();
commChk.ExecuteNonQuery();
conn.Close();   If so exactly how do I do this? How do I reset the parmaters for the proc?  I haven't done this before where I need to loop through passing parameter to the same proc. thanks

Call Function From Stored Procedure

Jan 19, 2007

Hi All,
I'll admit that I'm not the greatest at stored procedure/functions but I want to learn as much as possible.  So I have two questions:
1) I had VS2005 autogenerate a sqldatasource that created Select/Insert/Update stored procedures.  When Updating a record and calling the stored procedure, I want to query another table (we'll call it tblBatchNo) that has only one record, Batchno.  I want to put that current batchno into the Update statement and update the record with the current batchno.  Can someone point me in the right direction?  Remember that I'm still a beginner on this subject.
2) Can someone provide any links to online tutorials on t-sql?
Thanks in advance.

Error Within Stored Procedure Call

I am able to create the object without errors, so I know the .dll is correctly registered and is being found by the server. Any idea what would cause this error when I know the method name is correct? The code I use is below (without error handling to make it shorter):

DECLARE @hr INT
DECLARE @property VARCHAR(255)
DECLARE @return VARCHAR(255)
DECLARE @src VARCHAR(255)

-- Call method
EXEC @hr = sp_OAMethod @object, 'getDesc', @return OUT

-- Destroy object

Using A Variable To Call A Stored Procedure Name

Jan 31, 2006

Hello;

I am using an Access 2003 front-end, and an SQL backend to run my application. I have a pretty good handle on using stored procedures and assigning variables for criteria within the SPROC.

I am however having a problem when I try to use a variable in place of a named procedure. For example I have a function that runs 2 procedures, therefore I "Call" the function with the code that runs my procedure, and simply change the name of the SPROC with each call. My problem is that I cannot figure out the syntax to use a variable for the named procedure. My code always errors on the line "objConn.MySProc MyCalendar, objRs" because MySproc is of course not a named procedure.

So how do I refer to a procedures name using a variable?

Here's my code;

Function LieuBen()

MyCalendar = CurrTSCalendar

Call PopulateTmpFile("sp_DelTmpProctimesheetCalc")
Call PopulateTmpFile("sp_PopTmpCalcLieuBen")

End Function

Function PopulateTmpFile(MySProc As Variant)
Dim sp_PopulateTempOTTable As String

Const DS = "SOS-1"
Const db = "TIMS"
Const DP = "SQLOLEDB"

Dim objConn As New ADODB.Connection
Dim objRs As New ADODB.Recordset
Dim objComm As New ADODB.Command

ConnectionString = "Provider=" & DP & _
";Data Source=" & DS & _
";Initial Catalog=" & db & _
";Integrated Security=SSPI;"

' Connect to the data source.
objConn.Open ConnectionString

' Set a stored procedure
objComm.CommandText = MySProc
objComm.CommandType = adCmdStoredProc
Set objComm.ActiveConnection = objConn

objConn.MySProc MyCalendar, objRs

objConn.Close
Set objRs = Nothing
Set objConn = Nothing
Set objComm = Nothing

End Function
