Below is my query. Its working great if i remove ,Cast(C.ClassTime as time) as StartDate. But when i use this i get an error as The conversion of a varchar data type to a datetime data type resulted in an out-of-range value My ClassName is a varchar.Whose definition i cant change to DateTime now.But i want to cast it to DateTime.
Code:
Select C.ClassID as Appointment_Id,C.ClassName as Appoitment_Descr,Cast(C.ClassTime as time) as StartDate,C.EndClassTime as EndDate, 'Class' as Type
From Dojo D inner join DojoClass C on D.SchoolID = C.DojoSchoolID
Where D.SchoolID = @DojoID
and C.Days like'%' + @Days + '%'
Union
Select E.DojoEventID as Appointment_Id,E.EventName as Appoitment_Descr , E.EventStartDate as StartDate , E.EventEndDate as EndDate,'Event' as Type
From Dojo D inner join DojoEvent E on E.DojoID = D.SchoolID
Where D.SchoolID = @DojoID and @Date
Between E.EventStartDate and E.EventEndDate
I am pretty new to SQL for SQL Server 2005. In a view I have a column CAST(Field1 as int). Field1 is a varchar. All works well except when the data is not numeric such as a '?' or '*'.How can I get around this, with a case statement, coalese?I only want to perform the CAST on valid numeric values. The valid values in the varchar field are blank, null,'0','1','2','3','4','5','?','*' and maybe othersThanks
I have developed a CF application and now need to add some charts to it for admin purposes. I have a form page that uses a calendar widget to let a manager select a date range and submits to display data for that timeframe. I need to convert the formfields to a date for my WHERE clause in my query. My experience to this point has just been simple queries of one table. below is a sample I found and modified numerous time to try and make it work with no success.
Can anyone give me a hand with this?
SELECT COUNT ((CHG_TYP_CD)) AS CHG_TYP, CHG_TYP_CD FROM WRK_RQS WHERE(CAST('form.startdate' AS datetime) >= RQS_SBM_TS) AND (CAST('form.startdate' AS datetime) <= RQS_SBM_TS) GROUP BYCHG_TYP_CD
I have a varchar(len=9) field that I want to cast as numeric(9,2). Some of the field values are null but some have valid values (ie 1.00 or .05).
I am selecting data from one table and then updating a different table.
I have a select statement within an insert statement and then an update statement. I've tried a cast statement but not successfully. I get the following error.
[Execute SQL Task] Error: Executing the query "Exec sp_ESTLoadPOData" failed with the following error: "Error converting data type varchar to numeric.". Possible failure reasons:
Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly.
how do you get it to sort correctly for the date? at the minute its sorting on the characters rather than actual date value
Code Snippet INSERT INTO @TempItems (OrderID) SELECT OrderID FROM Orders o INNER JOIN Customers c ON c.CustomerID = o.CustomerID INNER JOIN Employees e ON e.EmployeeID = o.EmployeeID ORDER BY CASE @SortOrder --Order ASC WHEN 0 THEN cast(OrderID as varchar(100)) WHEN 1 THEN cast(c.CompanyName as varchar(100)) WHEN 2 THEN cast(e.FirstName as varchar(100)) WHEN 3 THEN cast(o.OrderDate as varchar(100)) WHEN 4 THEN cast(o.RequiredDate as varchar(100)) WHEN 5 THEN cast(o.ShippedDate as varchar(100)) ELSE '1' END,
Hi I have a varchar(8000) and currently XML files are stored in varchar(8000).Some times when i am doing manuplactions in my varchar column i am getting with special characters error. so now i want to keep my column varchar(MAX) and when i am doing calculations i will convert my varchar datatype to xml datatype. By doing this i hope there wont be any special character problems. When i am doing calculations with the wellformed xml i am getting error for both convert and cast methods as below I am trying to do convert(xml,MyVarcharColumn) Implicit conversion from data type xml to nvarchar is not allowed. Use the CONVERT function to run this query. Also i tried with casting and getting same problme. is there any way to convert
I have required a simple cast that is i want to get just time from datetime field. Example : I have data '1/1/1900 10:30 PM' now i want to get just 10:30 pm from it if any one can send me a query please do it. My email is Imran_mcs2002@yahoo.com"
How do you cast 0 as DateTime? Is this possible to do.I am using UNION to combine two tables. I get an error when doing so...
Msg 206, Level 16, State 2, Line 1 Operand type clash: int is incompatible with date SELECT TOP (100) PERCENT Opportunity_Name ,Status ,Closed_Status
[code]....
I understand what is causing the error. In the top select statement both Closed_Status AND Expected_Close_Date are datetime values. But in the bottom statement they are int.
I understand what is causing the error. In the top select statement both Closed_Status AND Expected_Close_Date are datetime values. In the bottom statement they are int. So I tried CASTing them as datetime, that didn’t work and I get this error.<o:p></o:p> Conversion failed when converting the varchar value 'Open' to data type int.Is there a way to CAST 0 as a DateTime
I'm reviewing the CAST function using Microsoft SQL server. I generally understand the functionality, but my confusion lies in the results of a particular script which casts a DateTime value to a fixed-point number.
It is as follows:
DECLARE @From DATETIME DECLARE @To NUMERIC(10,5)
SET @From = '2009-10-11T11:00:00' SET @To = cast(@From AS NUMERIC(10,5))
PRINT @To
This results in: 40095.45833
I am completely lost as to how 40095.45833 = 2009-10-11T11:00:00. I just do not understand the how that fixed point number equates to that source DateTime data.
hi, How do i convert a varchar field into the datetime data type? the reason i need this lies in the requirement that in the earlier data base the column that is hlding the date value is having the data type as varchar. and in the new design the column data type is datetime. i am using sql scripts for the data migration from the older design to the newer and got stuck with this datetime convertion issue. do let me know the best possible solution.
following are the sample data that is theer in the older table for the date.
12/12/2003 1/13/2007 01132004 1-1-2004 1.2.2001
there is no uniformity of the data that is stored currently.
This is because a date of 04/16/2014 will show as 160416 in the first part of the field I need to parse it out of, thus becoming 04162014.
From there I then need to convert this "date" into a legitimate SQL datetime type, so that I can then run a DATEDIFF to compare it to when the record was actually entered, which is a separate field in the table, and already in datetime format.
When I use the below statement, I am getting the message that, "Conversion failed when converting date and/or time from character string."
I have looked far and wide and have not found anything that works to allow me to resolve this issue.
I am moving data from DB2 using the MS OLEDB Provider for DB2. The OLEDB source sees the column of data as DT_TEXT. I setup a destination to SQL Server 2005 and everything looks good until I try and run the package.
I get the error: [OLE DB Source [277]] Error: An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80040E21. An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft DB2 OLE DB Provider" Hresult: 0x80040E21 Description: "Multiple-step OLE DB operation generated errors. Check each OLE DB status value, if available. No work was done.".

[OLE DB Source [277]] Error: There was an error with output column "LIST_DATA_RCVD" (324) on output "OLE DB Source Output" (287). The column status returned was: "DBSTATUS_UNAVAILABLE".
[OLE DB Source [277]] Error: The "output column "LIST_DATA_RCVD" (324)" failed because error code 0xC0209071 occurred, and the error row disposition on "output column "LIST_DATA_RCVD" (324)" specifies failure on error. An error occurred on the specified object of the specified component.

The meaning of the failure code is defined by the component, but the error is fatal and the pipeline stopped executing.
Any suggestions on how I can get the large string data in the varchar column in DB2 into the varchar(max) column in SQL Server 2005?
Hi, I have dates in "mmddyy" format coming from the sources and they are older dates of mid 80s like 082580 for instance.
When I cast it this way (DT_DBTIMESTAMP) Source_Date , It says ok but throws a runtime error.
When I hardcode a date in same format, (DT_DBTIMESTAMP) "082580" , It becomes red (an indication of syntax error) . Please note that we use double quotes in expressions in Derived Column Transformation; So an anticipation that using double quotes over single ones would be the syntax problem would be wrong.
Hi: I have a column call Date_Sent (28/02/2004)(dd/mm/yyyy) format as varchar at beginning. I want to convert to other column as datetime. I use Query like: SELECT CAST(SUBSTRING(Date_Sent,1,2)as int) + '/' +CAST(SUBSTRING(date_sent,4,2) as int) + '/' +CAST(SUBSTRING(DATE_SENT,7,4) as int) From MyTable It is not working, anybody can give me some advise! thanks!
I'm facing a small issue with date conversions. It would have been great if someone could help me out. I have a field in my database (SQL Server 2000) called SavDateTime of type varchar(50). I store dates in this field in the format "dd/MM/yy hh:mms". A sample date would be "23/10/2007 10:15:30 AM". Now I need to have an order by for this field, say like,
select * from sample order by SavDateTime desc
When I execute this query I get an error saying "The conversion of a char data type to a datetime data type resulted in an out-of-range datetime value.". I tried using the convert method also like CONVERT(DATETIME,SavDateTime,103), but the problem still exists. It would have been helpful if you could provide me with a solution to this problem.
Hi, I'm inserting a datetime values into sql server 2000 from c#
SQL server table details Table nameate_test columnname datatype No int date_t DateTime
C# coding SqlConnection connectionToDatabase = new SqlConnection("Data Source=.\SQLEXPRESS;Initial Catalog=testdb;Integrated Security=SSPI"); connectionToDatabase.Open(); DataTable dt1 = new DataTable(); dt1.Columns.Add("no",typeof(System.Int16)); dt1.Columns.Add("date_t", typeof(System.DateTime)); DataRow dr = dt1.NewRow(); dr["no"] = 1; dr["date_t"] = DateTime.Now; dt1.Rows.Add(dr); for(int i=0;i<dt1.Rows.Count;i++) { string str=dt1.Rows["no"].ToString(); DateTime dt=(DateTime)dt1.Rows["date_t"]; string insertQuery = "insert into date_test values(" + str + ",'" + dt + "')"; SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand(insertQuery, connectionToDatabase); cmd.ExecuteNonQuery(); MessageBox.Show("saved"); } When I run the above code, data is inserted into the table The value in the date_t column is 2007-07-09 22:10:11 000.The milliseconds value is always 000 only.I need the millisecond values also in date_t column. Is there any conversion needed for millisecond values?
I have a textbox that is receiving a date in the format mm/dd/yyyy. The field in the database is VarChar size 10. I purposely don't want to use the DateTime data type for various reasons. When I extract the text from that textbox: Example:4/11/2005 I do my INSERT. When I look in the database at that field, it shows up like:April 11, 2005 12 The database's field is VarChar! How/why is it doing automatic DateTime formatting?
