Please HELP ME!!! I have a server that is behind a firewall that I can not connect to through Enterprise Manager. However, I can connect to it through Query Analyzer. I am using TCP/IP. The credentials are fine, but the firewall is complaining. The firewall team has told me that the port is fine and that I should be able to connect. Is there a different port that Enterprise Manager uses along with 1433? I am told the answer is no, but I can't think of any other possibilities.
View 2 Replies View RelatedCan anyone tell me how Enterprise Manager connects to SQL Server? Does the Client Network Utility affect it? I can ping the servers with SQL on them, but I get timeouts and 'Connection Broken' in EM. Query Analyzer works sometimes and sometimes doesn't.
View 3 Replies View RelatedHello,
I am trying to solve this problem for the past 1.5 weeks and it is driving me crazy :(
I can't connect to my SQL database using Enterprise Manager, Query Analyzer, Visual Studio 2003 .NET or a .aspx that I created for testing.. it runs perfectly on my domain but it doesnt work on my computer, on the browser I get this message: SQL Server unavailable or access denied. It is the same message I get when I try connecting to my db using EM, QA, VS.NET etc :(
I can ping my sql domain, so I know I have access to it and it is working.. I can successfully connect to my personal SQL server running on my machine. (SQL Server Personal Edition running on Windows XP )
I tried doing everything I could,
I already selected TCP/IP as my client only protocol;
I tried installing the lastest MDAC (v 2.8);
I tried every other port on my TCP/IP client setup like 14333 or 11433 or 11143 etc;
I tried every other port on the alias I set for my sql address;
I tried downloading the evaluation version of MS SQL2000 and updating it to SP3;
I tried reinstalling several times my MS SQL2000 (I use the personal edition on my windows XP) and updating it to SP3;
I tried connecting to my sql address domain and directly to its IP;
And I tried a lot more resolutions that I can't remember right now, but it didn't work :(
I've been searching all forums/google etc looking for someone with my problem but I still didnt, everyone who had a problem connecting to their DB using EM or QA resolved it by doing "this or that", I did exactly the same "this or that" on my computer/config and it didn't resolve my problem. :(
What am I doing wrong? I can't connect to my database from my personal computer :(
I have never used enterprise manager before, so I don't know if it is a problem on my personal computer or on my sql server address on internet.. Is there anyway to find a free test ms sql database with like 1mb just to try and find out if I can connect to a sql database at all using EM or if the problem is here on my computer?
Thanks in advance for any help,
Xande

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am attempting to connect to a remote default instance of SQL Server2k on Win2k using Enterprise Manager from my local host but receive a"SQL Server registration failed, timeout expired" error message eachtime.I am able to connect using Query Analyzer when specifying the IPaddress of the server (I am also specifying the IP address in myEnterprise Manager connection), am able to ping the server from thecommand line, and am able to telnet to port 1433. I have triedconnecting both before and after creating an appropriate alias inClient Network Utilities all to no avail.I ran SQL Profiler while attempting to connect and do not see theconnection attempt reach the server. What could be preventingEnterprise Manager from reaching/connecting to the server while allother utilities (including profiler) are fine?Thanks in advance.
View 1 Replies View RelatedHi- I am hoping someone can help me or shed some light on an issue I am having.
I have recently moved to a dedicated server with MSDE installed on it. The server was installed as the default instance and I changed the password to the SA account. I then copied my entire SA database over to the new MSDE database and everything was working good so it seemed. I believe at some point during copying of the data, or after installalling an application the SA account begain to fail and the password was changed. I have no idea how this happened, and better yet when I tried to change it logged in as the administrator with OSQL it told me I did not have sysadmin rights (I tried multiple Windows NT Auth logins and still got this error trying to change the password).
So... I reinstalled MSDE and created a named instane. I then attached the mdf/ldf files to my named instance and am able to connect ok from a .NET application directly to my new MSDE Named Instance database. Sounds like everything is great right? Not really, I can't figure out how to connect through enterprise manager and its driving me CRAZY!
1. I CAN connect via any .NET app and a connection string
2. I CAN connect via the server with OSQL
3. I CAN connect via the web based enterprise manager (which is very limited and a freeware ASP app).
4. I CANNOT connect via enterprise manager. I have verified from the (SVRNETCN.EXE utility) that the port is open and have tried connecting to MY_IPADDRESSNAMEDINSTANCE but no luck.
One additional side note, when I wasn't using a named instance I had no problems connecting through enterprise manager to my default MSDE instance.
Any help would be grealy appriciated, this is driving me nuts!

Server does not exist or access is denied ...
Im trying to replicate a database (on web hosting server) my own local machine
I have successfully registered the server in enterprise manager, i know i have username/password correct [server status shows a blank white dot??]
Any ideas??? Maybe my network wont allow me, i cannot telnet to the server even specifying the particular port?
I have managed to backup the database via services provided by web hosting company, is there a way i can expand the database from this backup file using enterprise manager surely???
TIA
Problem: I upgraded a SQL Server Express instance to SQL Server Enterprise, but I'm unable to connect to the SQL server from any remote machine. Only local connections work -- and I've verified that Remote Connections are allowed in the SQL Surface Confg. utility.
Scenario: Server1 has an SQL Enterprise edition installed as a default installation. SharePoint Server 2007 was installed later, and during that install a SQL Express edition instance was installed which is part of the standard SharePoint install. That Express instance contains all the SharePoint content databases.
So Server1 has SQL instances:
Server1 <default install running Enterprise>
Server1OFFICESERVER <previously running SQL Express, now upgraded to Enterprise>
After upgrading Server1OFFICESERVER to Enterprise, everything seemed to work fine (i.e. SharePoint works fine). However when I try to connect remotely to Server1OFFICESERVER I can't. I've verified through the SQL Surface configuration tool that remote connections are allowed. I've rebooted the server as well. I've tried connecting remotely using various PCs and various applications (e.g. SQL Server Mgmt Studio, Visual Studio, etc.).
Any other ideas to try?
I installed SQL Server Express and SQL Server manager, then tried to start manager. SQL Service is running, but SQL Manager attempt to connect to SQL Server instance times-out even though I correctly identify instance as SQLEXPRESS? Everything seems to be normal - both SQL Server and Manager are on a single Windows XP home machine. Any suggestions. Thanks

On one of our machines, all of the SQL Server 2000components except for the main Server component (SQL Servercore) itself were installed (Management tools, etc) a while agoand everything was running fine. Now I go and add/install theServer component and then Service Pack 3a.It seems that Service Manager won't start up (I get an hourglass cursor)and now I find that Enterprise Manager won't run as well. No errormessages appeared and I don't think I saw anything unusual inthe log file.However, I can use Enterprise Manager on a differentmachine and connect to the database (so the databaseitself seems to be running).Any suggestions as to what the problem might be and how tofix it? I like to see if I can repair this without havingto do a reinstall.Thanks.PF

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've two instances(Default, Named[dynamicsFINANCE]) running on SQL server 2014. However, when I try to connect to named instance say (dynamicsFINANCE) using SQL authentication from local SSMS, I get below error message:
A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: -1)
I assigned a static port number to the named instance [dynamicsFINANCE] 1450. I also setup the firewall rule to allow access to Port 1450.
I have a 3 node cluster on which I have installed SSAS as it's own insntance. I have created this as a named instance and can connect to it by serverinstance if I'm on the server itself. However from my desktop I get the error saying instance was not found on server name.
I have defined an alternate port and setup firewall rules and can connect via server:port but not serverinstance. Prior to making this change SSAS was running on default port of 2383 and I could connect just by servername.
I have read many articles for previous versions saying that clustered SSAS will always use 2383 and that you must connect just using servername. However and this is were it gets strange. I have a 2 node UAT cluster with SSAS setup exactly the same way I've described above and I can connect from my desktop as serverinstance.
Should I be able to connect as serverinstances for a named clustered instance in 2012 ?
Hi everybody,
I have designed a DTS package which will migrate a view from Sqlserver 2000 to Oracle.My package is using Microsoft OLEDB provider for Oracle driver for connecting to oracle.Im able to execute this package on the my system ie on the system where sqlclient is installed(Oracle client is also installed on my machine) .But when im doing it on the server im not able to do it.The Connection to Oracle Fails.
I wanted to know in order to connect to Oracle from the server,is it necessary that Oracle has to be installed on the server?.If yes, is it enough if i install oracle client on the server or Oracle Server version has to be installed on Server.
Please suggest me wht should i do know?
Thanks in advance

I installed SQL Server MSDE 2000 but I can't find how to start it. Does this package include an Enterprise Manager or not? I thought that maybe it was a standard XP Pro feature. I had no problem finding it in W2000 Pro.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am considering upsizing my Access 2000 DB to a SQL 7 server. I was told that having SQL 7 Enterprise Manager is highly prefferd but not essential as I can maintain the upsized DB with Access 2000. The only way that I have been able to find JUST enterprise manager seems to be with purchasing the whole SQL 7 program for $1300! Microsoft cannot be that cruel, that you have to buy the whole program just for Enterprise Manager!
My questions are:
Can I download just MS SQL 7 Enterprise Manager anywhere for a reasonable fee or free?
and
if not, can I continue to use Access 2000 to maintain the SQL 7 upsized DB?
I have access to a SQL 7 server via my ISP Hosting account. I know Enterprise manager comes with the server software, but how can I get a copy of JUST Enterprise Manager?

View 4 Replies View RelatedHi,
I would like to know if we can present users to access details database information about the databases on a server through Enterprise Manager.
If you create a SQL login and do NOT give it access to any database, if someone logons on your server with enterprise manager, even though he does not have access to any database, he will still see the list of all database on your servers plus tons of sensitive information like database owner.
Is is possible to limit enterprise manager to only view information about database that the user has access to?
Thanks

View 2 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone know how to turn off or disable the auto discovery for Enterprise Manager. Apparently our Network group is complaining that Enterprise Manager is generating noise on the network, it is not signifcant in volume but they complain it impacts there ability to detect hacking attempts on our network because it causes some false positives. I generally keep Enterprise Manager running because I will always have some manual job running from it and we have so many servers it takes awhile for them to all load when I first fire it up.
