How To Copy My ASP.NET 1.1 Websites SQL Database To Desktop?
Jun 19, 2007
I am dealing with an old ASP.NET 1.1 web app that I want to fix and
update. The existing site has an SQL database on the web host's SQL
server. I want to rip a complete copy of this database (it isn't large,
only 9MB) onto my desktop computer, so I can alter it and "bench test"
the changes I'm making to the overall application in VS2005.
Now, I have tried to yank a copy of this database and its structure
using GUI programs like Visual Studio 2005, SQL Studio Manager Express, and EMS SQL
Manager, none seem to offer a "Save As" option. While I can easily make changes to the database and its tables
on the web host's server (sql.hostname.net) with no problem, I can't
figure out how to pull a copy off of their server and onto my machine...
Does this problem have a very simple solution that I am overlooking?
Thank you for any advice!

Hi there, i was wondering if there are any performance issues involved with having two websites using one SQL2000 database. Both the websites need to update, insert and select from the single Database. I was hoping to get any comments / views that you may have.

If I create a website in VWD express and create a database in the APP_DATA folder it works great. Then if I attach it in SQL Management Studio, when I go back to opening the website I get MyMachineaspnet can not log into database. Even if I copy the database.mdf file of a working site to a different folder, rename it, attach it. The original website fails to open the original database. With out changing anything. If it's a DNN website it returns Website currently unavalable. After this happens I can in VWD open and see the tables in the database. I think databases created in the APP_DATA folder in VWD are "User Instances" I don't normally see them in SQL management Studio. Something about the Studio breaks them.
This is getting old real quick so PLEASE tell me what am missing here. Thanks

Dear All,
i have a question abt winCE 4.2 and SQL server CE.
i am using VB.net of Visual Studio 2005
My platform is using a PDA with winCE 4.2 and SQL server CE. The Host program is using dbf files on desktop side.
I got a problem of how to sync / read the sql CE data from a windows application.
so, i wanna ask,
1. any method to access the data from winCE data by windows application? or can i convert the sdf file to windows readable files? or any others?
2. Can i use a MDB to sync with SQL server CE?
can i synchronize the mobile device which has a SQL Server CE database with the Access database on the desktop?
last question,
3. is that windows CE .net 4.2 not support pocket access (cdb) anymore?
please help me out

When there is 1 DB machine for 2 web sites, is it better to have
One DataBase-instance running with 2 DataBase-Initial-Catalogs ?
or
Two DataBase-instances running, each with 1 DataBase-Initial-Catalog ?
using SQLExpress or SQLServer
please only look at those possible, simple conditions.
forget about read/write same tables, security issues..
Interms of Memory/CPU/ Performance, which setting seems better ?
Please give some thoughts on Performance / DataLoad / Consumption,,,etc...
thanks.

Hi,
I set up DB mirror between a primary (SQL1) and a mirror (SQL2); no witness. I have a problem when I issue command:
alter database DBmirrorTest
Set Partner = N'TCP://SQL2.mycom.com:5022';
go
The error message is:
The remote copy of database "DBmirrorTest" has not been rolled forward to a point in time that is encompassed in the local copy of the database log.
I have the steps below prior to the command. (Note that both servers' service accounts use the same domain account. The domain account I login to do db mirror setup is a member of the local admin group.)
1. backup database DBmirrorTest on SQL1
2. backup database log
3. copy db and log backup files to SQL2
4. restore db with norecovery
5. restore log with norecovery
6. create endpoints on both SQL1 and SQL2
CREATE ENDPOINT [Mirroring]
STATE=STARTED
AS TCP (LISTENER_PORT = 5022, LISTENER_IP = ALL)
FOR DATA_MIRRORING (ROLE = PARTNER)
7. enable mirror on mirror server SQL2
:connect SQL2
alter database DBmirrorTest
Set Partner = N'TCP://SQL1.mycom.com:5022';
go
8. Enable mirror on primary server SQL1
:connect SQL1
alter database DBmirrorTest
Set Partner = N'TCP://SQL2.mycom.com:5022';
go
This is where I got the error.
The remote copy of database "DBmirrorTest" has not been rolled forward to a point in time that is encompassed in the local copy
Thanks for any help,
KT

Hi, I have installed reporting services on 2 servers now and each time I click: "Report Server Virtual Directory", "Report Manager" "Virtual Directory" or "Web Service Identity" in the Reporting Services Configuration Manager I get the following error:
"An error occurred while enumerating the websites on "SERVER1". If "SERVER1" is a remote server, try changing the firewall settings in the operating system to allow the enumeration. The exception details are: Library not registered.
After this I cannot change any settings under these configuration items.
The servers I have tried installing are running Server2003 R2 SP1 x32 & x64.
I have tried changing service accounts, reinstalling IIS, reinstalling Reporting Services, changing website permissions and IIS configuration but I keep getting this same error.
The server is not a remote server nor is there a firewall present. As the error states there is a unregistered library but I don't know which one.
Thanks in advance.

I am thinking of using my web database as the database to use for my program, though not sure how feasible due to connection speeds and having to transfer that info.
what I am using as the connection string is
con.ConnectionString = "Data Source=databse ipadress inserted here; Initial Catalog=databasename here;Integrated Security=True"; with real data obviously inserted into the ip and tables, but when i try and send values there it just hangs and then crashes. I am thinking its not finding the database. Is there something else im to do?
I am using the exact same code as when i use my own machine as the server, and it works great that way, only thing different is the trying to send to the web server.

I have searched through this forum and the news group
microsoft.public.sqlserver.ce
for this topic. I only find a post from Darren Shaffer and I requested a document.
Unfortunately, there is not a clear example of how to create a mobile database (sdf) on a desktop machine which contains VS 2005 and SQL server 2005 by using Visual Basic 2005.
I am sure a clear example in VB for this problem would help a lot of people. Hence anybody who knows how to perform this task, Please help these people.
Thanks in advance

I'm trying to create a website based on interesting historical facts, Searchable by date. I need each fact entry to have a datetime field in the database, but unfortunately this method only lets me go as far back as the year 1753 (for an inexplicable reason, I can go up to the year 9999).Is there something I'm overlooking here, or did Microsoft goof this one? Will I have to store my dates as 3 separate custom month/day/year fields? If anybody has a solution for this, please let me know (a B.C./A.D enabled solution isn't at all needed, but I'm open to that too).

I am running 7.0 standard desktop on Workstation 4.0 and have run into a database size limitation of 10GB. I have all the newest
patches and have found no documentation that refers to a 10GB limitation. A September copy of VBA developer says that this edition
has a limitation of 4GB while the guides say that the Small Business Server edition would have a 10GB limitation. All other forms
of documentation say that there should be the standard mega-terabyte limit. I'm completely confused by this [lack of] documentation.
Any help???

I want to physically move my .SDF file to my desktop and then access this file from VS 2005 VB.NET. Ideally, I would want to access this .SDF file from MS Access 2003 but I undersand this is not possible.
Here are my VS 2005 VB.NET statements....
Dim ConnPPC As New System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection("Data Source = C:Documents and SettingsG014436My DocumentsSQL
MobileActMgr6CE.sdf")
Dim mySqlDataAdapter2 As New SqlDataAdapter("select * from T0002_AE_Activity_Entry", ConnPPC)
mySqlDataAdapter2.Fill(myDataSet2)
On executing the last statement(fill)...I get the following error.
function failed: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)
Does anyone have any suggestions?

The sample application provided with Access Database Synchronizer fires a "A request to send data to the computer running IIS has failed. For more information, see HRESULT." exception on my WinCE 4.2 device.
I debugged it with VS2005 to see what was going on and found that the problem resides in the line:
m_connDesktop.Pull("MSysObjects","SELECT Name FROM MSysObjects WHERE Type=1 and flags=0",accessSysConnectString,RDATrackOption.TrackingOff,"Err_MSysObjects");
It seems that connection m_connDesktop is ok but calling Pull method fails.
I've verified that SSEvAccessSync service is started when ActiveSync detects device connection and that firewall rules are correctly updated.
Also, i verified my System.mdw and i discovered that there is no "MSysObjects" table (only MSysGroupList, MSysGroupMembers, MSysUserList and MSysUserMemberships queries are there).
Do you think the problem is there?
How can i solve it without damaging System.mdw?
I cannot figure out what's the purpose of this line of code, can you help me?

Can you suggest me what need adding/installing to get the CSession.Open(datasource) working?

Dear all,
I have developed a C# desktop application which uses SQL express as its database. It works just fine as I installed the application, used SQL express Server Management Studio CTP to create database with tables , stored procedures etc.
Now, I want to create an installer that will not only install my application to other machines but also create the database with all the tables and stored procedures with it.
How do I do so? I searched the answer in several places but none worked out for me. Can anyone please help me on this??
For your convenience I'm giving the following informations:
Database name: NorthPoleSQL sever Name: IshtiaqueSqlexpress (used Windows Authentication Mode)
I have detached the database from the original machine and have the NorthPole.mdf and NorthPole_Log.ldf files. I want to use these files and create the database in target machine rather than writing sql scrips and executing them.
Please help me with a descriptive, step by step instruction as I am new to this technology.
Thank you.

Just installed SQL Server 2005 and tested my old VS 2005 ASPnet websites, which were connected toSQL Server 2000 databases before. All my websites were created for local HTTP applications, coded with a connection string with User ID and Password. The SQL Server 2000 was configured as mixed authentication (i.e. with User ID and Password). These websites worked very well with SQL Server 2000 database server.Testing my old VS 2005 websites with SQL Server 2005 database, showed a 'Login failed for a User ''.' error msgalthough the 'Test Connection' on VS 2005 design showed a perfect query for e.g. a GridView control. I have assured that the UserID/Password were correct for Management Studio Security object'slogin and Database Security's user. The server instance was configured with mixed authentication mode. One thing I am not sure of is, when clicking the Management Studio icon, a Connection dialog showed up, asking for a Windows or MIxed authentication? I just stayed with the Windows authentication. What does the authenticationmode have anything to do with the VS 2005 website connection? Should I change to mixed authetnication mode?TIA,Jeffrey

Hi guys,
I've been assigned the task of setting up access to our SQL Server 2005 box. A consultant developing for us has accessing to 2 databases and I've set this up fine. It appears however that one of these databases is re-copied over to the server every night to keep data reasonably current.
I'm not interesting in changing this method as I'm not the maintainer (as yet).
Basically I would like to know if I've setup access to this database (it works fine), when the database is updated (with an SSIS package) the account seems to get deleted. Do the original permissions from the source database overwrite those of its destination?
Cheers

I'm using SQL Server Management Studio Express and I'm trying to figure out how to copy a table(s) from my local database to my web hosting database. I know how to do it in 2000, but it's completely different now. Is this feature not allowed on SSMSE? If so, then how do I deploy database tables to a web host? Also, how do you add local database(s) to SSMSE? I tried to use 'attach database' in SSMSE and it wouldn't allow me to navigate to My Documents folder where the database resides. Thanks...

I am pretty new to SQL Server 7.0 and am having a problem. I have two databases, both on seperate SQL Servers. The problem I am having is I have a copy of one and a backup of the other. I need both of these to be restored into a third SQL Server I have locally. None of these Servers see each other so I can't register them. All I have to work with is the Backup and the copy. Can someone tell me how to accomplish this. I have tried to do restore and import.
