hi I'm working in VS2005 with SQL server Express database. How can I copy some tables, stored procedures and diagrams from one database to another? thanks
Hello all! What I need to do is take a site that I have and make 3 copies of it so I will have 4 separate sites with 4 separate DB's but running on the same server. One of the sites is complete but what I need to know is how do I make a complete copy of the DB including all stored procedures and populate a blank DB that has a different name with contents from the master DB??? So if DB1 is complete and I want to now populate DB2, DB3 and DB4 with everything from DB1 (tables, stored procedures, data etc.) what would be the best way to do this? The new sites are already setup in IIS and I have already transferred the files to each sites root, so all that is left is to setup the new DB's. They are all running on the same server… I think that is about everything someone would need to know to help me! Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
i want to copy some tables from 1 database to another with its data & procedures etc to another database in Microsoft SQL 2005. can any one help plz reply tnx alot
This question is about SQL Server 2005: I have been trying to figure out how to copy tables and stored procedures between 2 databases (on the same server) using SQL Server Management Studio. I have tried right clicking on the table name, "script table as", "drop to", "clipboard", then I click on the 2nd database, and then click on the "tables" . I change the name of the database and click "execute". This creates the table but does not copy the data. I have also tried "create to" "clipboard" and "insert to" "clipboard" and cannot seem to be able to figure out how to get the results that I want. I am new at this but need to get the tables with the data copied along with the stored procedures, even if I have to do them one at a time. When I was using SQL Server 2000, I was able to use DTS to copy objects to other databases easily. Can someone please tell me a way to accomplish what I need to do? I have gotten information here before that was very useful and was hoping that someone can help me again.Thank you so much. Carol Quinn
We currently have a PPTP connection set up for our developers toaccess our development SQL server through a VPN tunnel. When theyneed to copy tables up to the dev SQL from their local machine theysimply do a DTS copy. However, we are now moving to a thin client solution where they willbe working on a terminal server. They will have access to thedevelopment SQL servers and SQL tools such as EM and QA. However, they will not have access to their local SQL server and, therefore, will not be able to directly perform DTS copies. We have exploredseveral possibilities such as exporting tables to a .csv or .mdb fileand then importing them on the development SQL server but this is notideal because things are lost in that process (e.g. primary keys, field names, data types, etc.)My question is this: Is there a way to export and then import SQLtables without losing dependent objects such as primary keys and datatypes in the process? If any of you are working with a similarsituation I would really like to hear how your remote users copyobjects from their remote location to your SQL servers. Is it possible to create and use stored procedures in SQL 2005 Express? As noted by someone else in an earlier post, you can right-click the stored procedures folder, get a template, code a stored procedure, and save it to a project file. However, whereas the earlier thread suggested that one could save the sp to the database by clicking !Execute, this does not work for me and I can find no other obvious way to make the sp accessible to my code-behind procs. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!
I have a website I'm ready to test on the server it will call home. I just got connected to the remote SQL server that it will be using. As I've been creating the site, I've been using the default SQL Express set-up in Visual Studio. Is there a way to have Visual Studio create all those default tables, procedures, etc. OR is there a way to copy all of that stuff from the SQL Express running on my machine to the remote SQL Server 2005? -Mathminded
Hi, I uploaded a database to a remote server (ISP) who has SQL2005 as do I. They got the database okay, but not all the stored procedures went along for the ride Can anyone tell me how to just simply transfer the stored procedures only to the remote server? Failing that, can you tell me how to export the entire database and be sure that it all goes, not just the tables. I assume you would have to do this via a script because the export wizard only lets you copy the files and I have dome this but the stored procedures do go along. Any help? Tia
Hi all, I have read/studied (i) Working with Databases in Visual Web Developer 2005 Express in http://quickstarts.asp.net/QuickStartv20/aspnet/doc/data/vwd.aspx, (ii) Xcopy Deployment (SQL Server Express) in http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms165716.aspx, (iii) User Instances for Non-Administrators in http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143684.aspx, and (iv) Embedding SQL Server Server Express in Applications in http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms165660.aspx. I do not understand the concepts and procedures to do Xcopy and User Instances for non-administrators completely-I do not know how to connect to databases and create database diagrams or schemas using the Database Explorer. I have a stand-alone Windows XP Pro PC. I have created a ChemDatabase with 3 dbo tables in the SQL Server Management Studio of my SQL Server Express and a website of my VWD Express application with an App_Data folder. I am not able to proceed to use Xcopy and user instance to bring the 3 dbo tables of ChemDatabase to my App_Data folder. Please help and give me some detailed procedures/instructions to bring the 3 dbo tables of ChemDatabase (or ChemDatabase itself) from the SQL Server Management Studio Express to the App_Data folder of the website of my VWD Express project? Thanks in advance, Scott Chang
I converted a program from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005 all went well. I created a number of tables and stored procedures after the conversion. I backed up my .mdf and .idf files. I was having problems with SQL so I uninstalled and re-installed it. Once I re-installed it I could no longer display some tables and files. Since I am the dbo, I think I should be able to access them. There obviously is something I am missing, hopefully not the tables and sps.
HiIm trying to connect Visual Basic Express 2005 to a remote SQL Server Express 2005. I cant find how i can do that in VB.net Express. In Web developer there are no problem to connect to a remote SQL server but i cant find it in VB.net Express. The XP with the SQL server that i want to connect to is on the local network. Greatful for help!
I have SQL Server Express and VB 2005 Express installed in a Microsoft Windows XP Pro PC that is a terminal PC in our office Network. My Network Administrator has granted my terminal PC for Administrator Use. I tried to do the ADO.NET 2.0-VB 2005 programming in my terminal PC and I could not get a remote connection in the Window Form Application via Window Authorization. I do not know how to make this kind of remote connection in my Network. Please help and advise.
In my office computer network system (LAN), my Windows XP Pro PC has SQL Server Express and VB 2005 Express installed and I was granted to have the Administrator priviledge to access SQL Server Express. I tried to create a SQLCLR project in my terminal PC. 1) I tried to set up a remote connection to SQL Server Express in the following way: SQL Server EXpress => SQL Server Surface Area Configuration. In the Surface Area Configuration for Service and Connection - local, I clicked on Remote Connection of Database Engine, SQLEXPRESS and I had a "dot" on "Local and remote connections" and "Using TCP/IP only". Then I clicked on "Apply" and "OK" buttons. Then I went to restart my database engine in SQL Server Management. When I went to check SQL Server 2005 Surface Area Configuration, I saw the arrow is pointing to "Service", not to "Remote Connections"!!!??? Is it right/normal? Please comment on this matter and tell me how I can have "Remote Connecton" on after I selected it.
2) After I restarted the database engine (I guess!!), I executed the following project code (copied from a book) in my VB 2005 Express:
//////////////--Form9.vb---/////////////////
mports System.Data.SqlClient
Imports System.Data
Public Class Form9

I am a new Microsoft VS.NET Express user to do the SQL Server 2005 Express and VB 2005 Express programming by using the example of a tutorial book. Please help and tell me what is wrong in my SQLCLR sep-up and project coding and how to correct the problems.
Hi, I want to make a component library in Visual Basic.NET and connect to a remote Sql Server. When I create a new DataSet with the wizard, I can only connect to a .mdf file, but not to a Sql Server. With Visual Web Developer I can connect to a Sql server. What is the difference between these enviroments ? How can I do the same with Visual Basic.NET ? Thanks in advance.
I was just wondering if something could be explained to me.
I have the following:
1. A table which has fields with data types and lengths / sizes 2. A stored procedure for said table which also declares variables with datatype and lengths/ sizes 3. A function in written in VB .net that uses said stored procudure. The code used to add the parameters to the sql command also requires that i give a data type and size.
How come i need to specify data type and length in three different places? Am i doin it wrong?
Any information is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Im using SQL Server 2000 with Visual Studio .Net using Visual Basic..
I have visual web developer and sqlexpress 2005 installed on my windows XP pro.
I am creating stored procedures through VWD and works fine for me. However today I realize I do not know how to create stored procedures through sqlexpress server managment.
When I try it it wants to save it as file. And if I do that I am not able to see them until manually open each .sql file.
My searches have come up blank, so I'm hoping someone else can point me in the right direction. I'm done some development in SQL Server Express, working on tables and procedures. I've now got to move those tables/procedures into SQL Server and I don't know of an easy way to do this. Are there any tools I can take advantage of that would allow me to get all these objects moved? The only way I can see to do it is to move objects over one-by-one. This would be really time-consuming, and I'd like to avoid it if possible. I'm positive I'm not the first one to try this, but what should I be searching for? Are there tools/procedures I should be looking for? Appreciate any help I can get. Thanks.
I am racking my brain on this one. I am migrating Oracle data to SQL Server and would like an SSIS package that will copy the oracle data from every table to SQL server. I already have the schema set up in SQL and a straight copy of a specified table works fine between the OLEDB source and OLEDB destination. However, when I set up a loop which sets a global variable for the table names, which are identical on both dbs, and try to set the OLEDB Source and Destination OpenRowsetVariable to the global variable, the process fails with these errors with all validation turned off:
[OLE DB Source [18]] Warning: Cannot retrieve the column code page info from the OLE DB provider. If the component supports the "DefaultCodePage" property, the code page from that property will be used. Change the value of the property if the current string code page values are incorrect. If the component does not support the property, the code page from the component's locale ID will be used.
[OLE DB Source [18]] Error: Column "ID" cannot be found at the datasource.
[DTS.Pipeline] Error: component "OLE DB Source" (18) failed the pre-execute phase and returned error code 0xC0202005.
To sum up, I want to set the tables dynamically and have them infer the mappings. The names of the columns are already the exact same on each schema, and the data types are mapped accordingly. I have already verified that the names of the tables have been formatted correctly for each database. If I can't do it this way then how?
I need to copy the stored procedures from a database on one server to another. I used 121 WAM to copy the DB tables over but don't know how to copy the stored procedures over.
Can someone point me in the right direction?
Ultimately, what I would like to do is have the 2nd server update from the 1st server so I can set up a redundant DB.
I installed SQL Server 2005 express with advanced services which is supposed to include full-text search capability but I can't get it to work. When I try to create a full-text catalog it gives me an error because it does not think the full-text service is installed or loaded. I can't seem to find a reference to the full-text search feature to enable or install it. any ideas?
Lets say I use the 'enabling roles' for my ASP 2.0 site. This creates a ASPNETDB.DBF SQL Express file. Later I go to post this to a real web server - which runs the 'full' MS SQL2005 server. What happens to the ASPNETDB.MDF file (or for that matter, any other MDF file I create with SQL Express) when it leaves the Express world and enters the Real world.
1. Can SQL Server 20005 Express do full text searches?
2. If not, is there a way to use SQL Server 20005 Express to search a database column containing text data type?
Using Visual Basic 2005 Express, I would like to do a simple search with a search textbox and button that will return the entire contents of a field of database text when one or more words in the search text box are in the field of text in the database.
I have been playing in Visual Basic 2005 Express and using SQL queries (SELECT, FROM, WHERE) to output to DataGridView controls by using ID columns as filters in the query, etc. This I can do. But I have not been able to use a word or phrase in the search textbox as a filtered query to output the entire database field of text which contains the search word or phrase in the search textbox.
Thanks for any help in getting me started with this.
Hi. Im trying to get a asp.net web aplication to write data to an sql express server located on another server. However when i try to connect with VS 2008 it says: "Named pipes provider, error 40: - Could not open a connection to SQL server". What do i need to do to get this to work. Do i have to set something in the sql server, and i assume i have to open some ports in my firewall aswell? Any help sugestions would be aprichiated
I am currently using a Microsoft Access (MDB) for my application. But I am looking at allowing other users on the network access the same database -- I know a Microsoft Access database is not the best solutuon for this enviroment.
I'd like to use SQL Server 2005 Express in this case. I am very fimilular with SQL Server 2000 Std/Ent editions. My question is, can I use the free SQL Server 2005 Express edition and allow remote users to connect to that database? Or is it supposed to only be used as a local database accessed by only the machine it's installed on?
is there a way to copy whole stored procedures to another database? I have aproximately 80 SPs in a database, I want to copy whole SPs into another DB. Is there a practical way to copy them? Thanks
