Greetings,
I have an SSIS package that I need to modify. It was developed in Visual Studio 2005 and runs faithfully in production on SQL Server 2005. Suddenly, I can't open the package on my own workstation. I see a big red "X" image and a message stating "Microsoft Visual Studio is unable to load this document." The real reason the document can't be loaded appears to be:
Error loading DataWarehouseLoader.dtsx: The connection type "OLEDB" specified for connection manager "Warehouse Logging OLE DB" is not recognized as a valid connection manager type. This error is returned when an attempt is made to create a connection manager for an unknown connection type. Check the spelling in the connection type name.
Does anyone know what causes this and what I can do? The package has been in production for 9 months and I've never seen this problem before.
Thanks,
BCB
Hi,
I have set up a report to access a web service and consume one of its methods - a method that returns a datatable set up with a table adapter. Query code example below:
Code Block
<Query>
<Method Namespace="http://AcornExportWebServices.org" Name="GetAllEnquiries"></Method>
<SOAPAction>http://AcornExportWebServices.org/GetAllEnquiries</SOAPAction>
<ElementPath IgnoreNamespaces="true">
GetAllEnquiriesResponse{}/
GetAllEnquiriesResult/diffgram{}/
DocumentElement{}/Enquiry
</ElementPath>
</Query>
This works fine and returns expected results.
However, when I try and return a set of results from a web service that has a parameter specified I get nothing returned. I have tried various different methods including adding the parameter in the dataset dialogue and specifying the parameter and specifying the parameters as in the code example below but still with no joy. Here is the code example with parameters:
Code Block
<Query>
<Method Namespace="http://AcornExportWebServices.org" Name="GetEnquiry">
<Parameters>
<Parameter Name="EnquiryID">
<DefaultValue>1</DefaultValue>
</Parameter>
</Parameters>
</Method>
<SOAPAction>http://AcornExportWebServices.org/GetEnquiry</SOAPAction>
<ElementPath IgnoreNamespaces="true">
GetEnquiryResponse{}/
GetEnquiryResult/diffgram{}/
DocumentElement{}/Enquiry
</ElementPath>
</Query>
When I remove the ElementPath declaration I get back the schema of the table so I believe that is proof that the web method is being contacted but whatever I seem to try I cannot return any results (or the 1 result that the web service should return).
I would be grateful to know if anyone has any ideas or suggestions about this problem.
Thanks.

Hi everyone,
I have one problem with my reports. I have one Cube and every week, we process the cube to recalculate the measures.
Before, my report can be displayed with any problem but know, since we process the cube, we can't see the reports based on the cube.
The errors display in the report manager are :
rsProcessingAborted and
rsErrorOpeningConnection.
When i try to access the report directly from my local project thanks to visual studio, the reports works well.
I think that it may be a problem of rights and abilitations. Or maybe it'a an IIS problem ? Or a firewall problem ?
Thanks for your response.

Does anyone out there have any ideas on the best way to connect in integration services to a nonstop sql database running on a tandem computer? We have some odbc drivers that have proven to be problematic and slow to use. What oledb products I can find apparently come with something that's around $36K per processor to buy. Thanks.

Hi All,
I need to write a report which will run based on the user's input for Server Group. Meaning, if the user wants the report to be run for one say, UAT group, the report (and therefore the stored procedure) should be executed against UAT server. Or, if the user wants it to be run on the Production machine, the stored procedure should be executed on the Production Server. Assume that both UAT and Production servers are in the same domain to rule out any authentication issue.
I think one way of doing it is to create a linked server on one server which we use to connect via the Report Manager. So, whatever Server Group is selected based on that the SP will be executed on that respective Server Group's Server, since in the query we will have given full names of the tables that we use.
But, I strongly suspect, that having linked servers will not be accepted since it requires that the server owners maintain that. So, I was thinking if there is any other way of achieving this. If anyone knows, please help me with this.
Thanks a lot and let me know if the question is not clearly stated.
Manoj.

I have windows 2003 reporting services 2005 that has been working fine. Now all of a sudden when I go to http://localhost/reports I am unable to assign security to folders(the link is hidden) the New data source button is hidden, the new folder button is hidden, upload folder and report builder are also hidden. Also when I connect to reporting services through SQL Mgmt Studio I have the same issue, there are no options for permissions only a general option.
I'm sure it's a permissions issue but what do i do to resolve?

1. As per my current development SQL Sever Analysis Database consists of two Cube (Cube A and Cube B). Cube A and Cube B share the same data source view (DSV1). The source for both these cubes has the same data source (DS1).
2. As per the requirement I need to create third Cube i.e. Cube C. Is it possible to create a second Data Source View (DSV2). The Source of second Data Source View (DSV2) will be the same data source(DS1).
I am thinking to create second Data Source View (DSV2) for Cube C because existing layout of the DSV1 has become complex. I wanted to know the pros and cons of creating a multiple data source view with same data source
I have create a batch file, that creates an ODBC then updates the application datasource key in the registry to the new system dsn name.
The problem is that the new DSN doesn't work when i try and connect the application...but if i had manually created the odbc source the app connects as expected... i have checked the registry and there is no difference between the two dsns created...but the application throws IM002[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified after i have also changed the applications registry key to point to the new database.
Now the interesting things to note are that when i re-create the odbc to the old server and database (sql 2000) by batch file it works fine. The new ODBC is linking to a sql 2005 database, but it is still using the 2000 drivers and when i manually created it, it worked also.
Another interesting thing is that if i go into the odbc dsn and click configure, go through and test the connection it works fine... after i close this i then retry the application and it opens correctly...
I need this to be automated with no manual intervention, as this will be added to a large group of users login scripts!
Any help greatly appreciated.
My batch file code is as below:
ODBCCONF.exe CONFIGSYSDSN "SQL Server" "DSN=RMS Live 2005 | SERVER=d-db99sql2005| Trusted_Connection=Yes | Database=RMS-Livedb"
Well here is my connection string, I used these details to succesfully access the server from mySQL gui.
SqlConnection shhfd = new SqlConnection ("Data Source=http://www.mydomain.co.uk; " +
"user id=mteccles; password=mypass; connection timeout=30; "
then... try { shhfd.Open(); blah blah blah.
The exception caught is as follows.
at System.Data.SqlClient.ConnectionPool.GetConnection(Boolean& isInTransaction) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnectionPoolManager.GetPooledConnection(SqlConnectionString options, Boolean& isInTransaction) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection.Open() at WebService1.Service1.HelloWorld() in g:inetpubwwwrootwebservice1service1.asmx.cs:line 120
My guess is that something in the web.config isn't right or maybe the host (webfusion) is strange. Thanks if anyone can help.
Hi,
I've written a DTS Package to pull information from a number of servers. I have a list of servers (Source Servers) and for each one I automatically update the Datasource property of the Source Server connection using vbscript in an ActiveX Script task and a global variable.
I have a transformation that occurs between the Source server and Target server.
As I process each Source Server in turn, the global variable gets set correctly and so does the Datasource property of the Source Server connection. However the transformation still runs against the first Source Server that was processed.
Looking at BOL it appears that a transformation stays connected even after it has finished. Therefore I assume that although I change the Datasource of the connection to a new server, it still runs against the first server that was used.
My question is how do I get the connection to run against the updated Datasource, i.e. do I need to do a refresh of the Connection, disconnect or what ?
Any ideas would be much appreciated.
thanks
Hai,
I am using ADOX to create linked tables in a jet database from an ODBC datasource.
The tables in the ODBC data source does not have a primary key.
so I am only able to create read only linked tables.But I want to update the records also.
I tried adding a primary key column to the linked table while creating the link.
but I am getting an error while adding the table to the catalog.
The error message is "Invalid Argument".
I use the following code for creating the linked table
Sub CreateLinkedTable(ByVal strTargetDB As String, ByVal strProviderString As String, ByVal strSourceTbl As String, ByVal strLinkTblName As String)
Dim catDB As ADOX.Catalog
Dim tblLink As ADOX._Table
Dim ADOConnection As New ADODB.Connection
ADOConnection.Open("Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;" & "Data Source=" & strTargetDB & ";User Id=admin;Password=;")
catDB = New ADOX.Catalog
catDB.ActiveConnection = ADOConnection
tblLink = New ADOX.Table
With tblLink
' Name the new Table and set its ParentCatalog property
' to the open Catalog to allow access to the Properties
' collection.
.Name = strLinkTblName
.ParentCatalog = catDB
' Set the properties to create the link.
Dim adoxPro As ADOX.Property
adoxPro = .Properties("Jet OLEDB:Create Link")
adoxPro.Value = True
adoxPro = .Properties("Jet OLEDB:Link Provider String")
adoxPro.Value = strProviderString
adoxPro = .Properties("Jet OLEDB:Remote Table Name")
adoxPro.Value = strSourceTbl
End With
'Adding primary key,
'***** the source column name is "Code" ******
tblLink.Keys.Append("PrimaryKey", ADOX.KeyTypeEnum.adKeyPrimary, "Code")
'Append the table to the Tables collection.
'******The exception occurs on the following line***********
catDB.Tables.Append(tblLink)
'Append the primary index to table.
catDB = Nothing
End Sub
If I avoid the line for adding the primary key,everything works fine,but the table ctreated is readonly.
Thanks in advance

Hello,
I am wondering how it is going to work using SQL Server configuration type to store connection string in the SQL Server table. How does SSIS know what database to connect to if its connection string is store in the database? Thanks
Hi All,
I have written a windows service using VB.NET that connects to a database and performs several tasks. The service is working correctly and has been fully tested against SQL Server 2000. I have recently moved to SQL Server 2005 and now, the service will not connect to the database.
I have setup and tried several different users, but none work, I get the following message:
Login failed for user 'OEESYSTEMS'
The server instance, username and password I specify are all correct.
The service is running on the same server as SQL Server. I can connect through a web application, and through ODBC. The server is set to use SQL server and windows authentication, and is setup and successfully allows remote connections.
It looks like SQL server sees that a windows service is trying to connect and does not allow it.
For the love of god, can anyone help with this issue.
Thank you.
I have an
issue where SQL Server is refusing a connection that is initiated from
within a Windows service. The connection is attempted using the
SQLConnect ODBC function (yes I know there are newer and better things
out there but I'm stuck with ODBC for now ). SQLConnect returns
SQL_ERROR and the error code that is returned is:
28000
Invalid authorization specification
The value specified for the argument UserName or the value specified for the argument Authentication violated restrictions defined by the data source.
Now
it sounds like a username/password problem but when we attempt a
connection to the same server via a non-service program, everything
works fine (using the same username/password). We thought it might be
an ODBC issue at first but we can connect to a MySQL server using the
same programs/services just fine.
Checking the SQL Server setup, we do have both Windows accounts and SQL Server authentication enabled (under Security tab).
Anyone have any ideas?
thanks!
-Pete

When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. View 2 Replies View Relatedwe have roughly 22 people connected to one database. But after a while, their applications begin to drag due to in and out communication with the server. I have a linked server setup in dev environment which is pointing to ORACLE server of a third-party. I m on sql server 2008 r2 and using BIDS 2008 for building an SSIS package which would pull data from oracle and do a look up in SQL server table to get a final extract. Now the query which pulls data from a single table from linked server is like the one below
select * from [oracle linked server ]..dbo.tablename a
left join mySQLSERVERtable b
on a.id=b.id
Note:I can execute this query on SSMS as the linked server is setup -[oracle linked server ] and I have sql oledb connection manager for dev environment already configured in my ssis package .
My questions are do I need to create a SSIS CONNECTION manager specifically for linked server in my ssis package ?
Are there any best practices which we follow when using linked servers in this context ? I am thinking will the join suffer performance issue and what kind of exceptions I need to write when the linked server connection is broken.
Hi,
I am trying to make a call to a third-party web service in my SSIS package. The request has custom complex data type as the parameter. As has been pointed out in this forum before, the Web Service Task only lets you assign the outside parameter from a variable, not the internal parameters needed to create the complex data type.
To be more specific, the web service input wants a 'ContactSearchRequest' parameter. I can assign this from a variable. If I click on the 'value' field under the 'Input' section for the web service task, it shows me that the 'ContactSearchRequest' data type is made up of the following:
contactId - long
numResults - int
offset - int
passKey - string
searchParam - string
sortType - int
Unfortunately, I can't assign these internal parameters from a variable, at least not through the web service task interface.
My next thought was to create a variable of type 'object' and then set it in a script task prior to calling the web service task. However, I'm not sure exactly how to do this. How will my script know about the class definition of 'ContactSearchRequest'? Do I just create a class called 'ContactSearchRequest'?
I've used this same web service in a .NET C# project and after I imported the web service, visual studio knew all about the custom data types. How do I do something similar in SSIS?
Of course, the easiest solution would for Integration Service to allow me to set those internal parameters via variables, but we're apparently not there yet.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Trey
I went to look at the connection string previously entered for a dataset created in a new report, and am not seeing anything intuitive for bringing up the associated datasource dialog box that was used to enter name, type and connection string. I'm also noticing nothing intuitive for deleting an existing dataset. How do you do these two very simple things in an existing project? I dont see the dataset in solution explorer, I see it only in the text box on the data tab and in a limited kind of way on the dataset view where the columns show and maint is allowed mostly on the columns only. I tried hilighting the dataset here and hitting the delete key to no avail.

Hi,
Need a guidance on consuming the WCF service with complex type in the SSIS package.
I have a WCF service with complex type inside the complex type (Nested complex type) in the web method as an argument. When I try to use this WCF service in the SSIS web service task, I get an error "The web method has unsupported arguments".
I am able to consume the WCF service with the web method having Complex type and simple/prmitive type in side that as argument.
For example:
The web method in WCF service which accepts the argument as comlex type say "Employee" whose structure is:
Employee
{
FName String;
LName String;
Age int
}
It is possible to consume this WCF service and pass the arguments.
But when the Employee complex type is changed to have one more complex type in side it it give the above mentioned error. The Employee type is modified as:
Employee
{
FName String;
LName String;
Age String
Type EmployeeType;
}
EmployeeType
{
type string;
}
Now I get the error Web Method has unsupported arguments.
Can this be done in SSIS?

When you pass a complex type (the one represented by class) to a web service the BIDS UI allows you to enter values for every field of that type as constants. But what if you want to pass a variable? Once again the UI allows you to specify a variable for that complex type parameter. But how to make this variable in SSIS?I understand it should have the type of Object. But how to specify what the runtime type of this object is? And how to assign all fields to that object?
