How To Create A Stored Procedure Of This Code (inline Sql In Aspx) ?
Jun 2, 2006
I have some SQL code as inline SQL (bad habit, I know). Now I want to convert this to an sproc, but I'm pretty much out of ideas here. The code looks like this:
string SQL = "SELECT * FROM MyDBTable WHERE 1=1";
if (txtMyField1.Text != "")
{
SQL = SQL + " AND MyField1 = @MyField";
}
if (txtMyField2.Text != "")
{
SQL = SQL + " AND MyField2 LIKE '%'+ @MyField2 + '%'";
}
if (txtMyField3.Text != "")
{
SQL = SQL + " AND MyField3 LIKE '%' + @MyField3 + '%'";
}
I have an search page built on ASP.NET 2.0. Based on what the user has entered to the form fields, the SQL in constructed on the fly. Since this is now inside codebehind file (aspx.cs), I want to get rid of it and move it to an sproc. But the question is how ? Some simple SQL clauses are easy to convert to an sproc but this is causing me lots of issues.
My stored proceddure "My Programs" includes a parameter @meid.How do I code an aspx file to run the procedure with a user ID, e.g. EmpID?I tried the following codes, but the error message indicated it can not findthe Stored Procedure. How do I pass the EmpID as a Stored Procedure parameter? <%meid = EmpIdcmd.CommandText = "MyPrograms meid"cmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedurecmd.Connection = sqlConnection2sqlConnection2.Open()reader3 = cmd.ExecuteReader(meid)While reader3.Read()sb.Append(reader3(i).ToString() + "......<BR> <BR /> ")End While%> TIA,Jeffrey
Hi i have the following stored procedure, i am trying to convert it to inline sql, however i got stuck, because how would i output a value e.g "@Access_Right_ID", this is the stored procedure below CREATE PROCEDURE dhoc_AccessRight_Insert @AccessLevel char(50), @Access_Right_ID int OUT, @Tstamp timestamp out ASSELECT * FROM tblAccess_Right WHERE AccessLevel = @AccessLevel IF @@ROWCOUNT <>0 BEGIN RAISERROR('This record is already in the database',16,1) RETURN 14 END ELSE BEGIN SET NOCOUNT OFF; INSERT INTO tblAccess_Right ( AccessLevel ) VALUES (@AccessLevel); SET @Access_Right_ID = @@Identity SET @Tstamp = (SELECT Tstamp FROM tblAccess_Right WHERE Access_Right_ID=@Access_Right_ID) --Make sure this has saved, if not return 10 as this is unexpected error IF @@rowcount = 0 BEGIN RAISERROR('This record has not been inserted at this time, it might have been inserted by another user, please try again',16,1) RETURN 10 END ELSE BEGIN IF @@error <>0 BEGIN RETURN @@error END ENDEND GO
Hi i have the following method in my page, it works fine and everything, but i am trying to modify it so that it can take a stored procedure; protected void Button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) {SqlConnection conn = new SqlConnection(ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["streamConnectionString"].ConnectionString);String sql = "SELECT userID, userName FROM users WHERE userName LIKE " + "'" + userName.Text + "%' OR organisation= " + "'" + OrganisationList.SelectedValue + "'"; conn.Open(); SqlCommand comm = new SqlCommand(sql, conn);SqlDataReader reader = comm.ExecuteReader(CommandBehavior.CloseConnection); DataList1.DataSource = reader; DataList1.DataBind(); conn.Close(); }
My question is what should my stored procedure be, and also how will i now structure the above method.
I have a stored procedure that is used to create a DataDictionary for the database. Basically, the sproc generates HTML and you can then run it from Query Analyzer by Saving to a file.
What I want to do is to run this from an aspx page.
I have a stored proc that is being executed from an OLE DB Source component in my Data Flow. Takes one input parm, has several variables declared within, a derived table which is used in a join and all within a try catch block with transaction handling. No updates, just returning data, works great, except now I have been asked to replace these stored procs with inline queries.
ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[usp_Get_Test] ( @numberOfMonthsint ) AS BEGIN SET NOCOUNT ON set transaction isolation level read uncommitted
[Code] ....
The problems I have run into so far are...
SQL command text in OLE DB Source Editor does not like: - TRY/CATCH block - Will not let me use my input parm (@numberOfMonths int) - When I hard code in my input parm (select @BeginDate = dateadd(MONTH, -1, GETDATE())) I can parse query and run the step but no results are returned. So I am let to assume that it does not like the @TESTY derived table.
The query here as a sample has had pivots removed as well, but research suggests this should be an issue in the SQL command text.
Also, I know not even to try the Build Query... cause it will complain about any variable declarations (i.e., declare @BeginDate datetime).
For instance, can I pull this off with an Execute SQL Task? The problem is I don't see this available in the toolbox for the Data Flow.
Also, would my error handling be done in the Event Handlers tab now and if so, is there a good example of this?
I'm trying to call a Stored Procedure from a Inline Table-Valued Function. Is it possible? If so can someone please tell me how? And also I would like to call this function from a view. Can it be possible? Any help is highly appreciated. Thanks
I have a stored procedure where I run an insert statement. I want to knwo if it is possible to do it using a variable for the table name (either in-line or with an EXEC statement without building a string first and executing that string. See examples of what I am talking about in both cases below:
I want to be able to do this (with or without the EXEC) : ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DECLARE @NewTableNameOut as varchar(100)
Set @NewTableNameOut = 'TableToInsertInto'
EXEC( Insert Into @NewTableNameOut Select * From tableToSelectFrom )
I can not do the above because it says I need to declare/set the @NewTableNameOut variable (assuming it is only looking at this for the specific insert statement and not at the variable I set earlier in the stored procedure.
I can do it like this by creating a string with the variable built into the string and then executing the string but I want to know if I can do it like I have listed above.
It is not an issue for my simple example above but I have some rather large queries that I am building and I want to run as described above without having to build it into a string.
Hello, I have the following stored procedure and the following aspx page. I am trying to connect this aspx page to the stored procedure using the SqlDataSource. When the user enters a branch number in textbox1, the autonumber generated by the database is returned in textbox2. I am not quite sure what to do to get this to execute. Can someone provide me assistance? Will I need to use some vb.net code behind? Stored ProcedureCREATE PROCEDURE InsertNearMiss @Branch Int, @Identity int OUT ASINSERT INTO NearMiss (Branch)VALUES (@Branch) SET @Identity = SCOPE_IDENTITY() GO
I have a stored procedure when query a big table about 500,000 records. When I run the stored procedure in the query analyzer, it is very fast and it only takes 2~3 seconds. However, when my aspx page try to call this stored-procedure with a Command's ExecuteReader method like bellow:
I always get timeout expired exception. I try to set the connection timeout and command timeout to 100 seconds. The exception is gone but the average execution time is about 25 seconds! While the stored-procedure only takes about 2~3 seconds in query analyzer with the same parameter.
What could be the problem?? I tried to figure this out for a couple days but still no clue.
I have a table which gets updated roughly every 6 seconds with data. I have setup an aspx page with a datagrid to meta tag refresh every 3 seconds.
Because the data sometimes stops for a couple of minutes or even hours, I was thinking of a way to update/refresh the aspx page only when the table data gets entered ( to stop page flickering every 3 seconds).
I was thinking about a stored procedure and using an on update procedure.
Does anyone have any preffered methods or suggestions on the best way to accomplish this task.
I would like to have a stored procedure to run a shared VB file, which will check a refrence value from a SQL Server table every hour, then redirect the web page to an error page if the reference value is equal to e.g. 'E'.
My question is: a S.P. can update a SQL Server table, but can a S.P. 'run' a shared VB file to redicret a web page automatically? How?
I have the following stored proc. which i am using on the front end to get all the record from table:

Hello, I'm using ASP.Net to update a table which include a lot of fields may be around 30 fields, I used stored procedure to update these fields. Unfortunatily I had to use a FormView to handle some TextBoxes and RadioButtonLists which are about 30 web controls. Hi all, I am excuting DTS package from code behind and the table is created in the SQL database. However, the data in my excel sheet is not transferred over and Im not sure where the problem lies. Below is my code: pkgLocation = @"C:/Program Files/test.dtsx"; app = new Application(); pkg = app.LoadPackage(pkgLocation,null); pkgResults = pkg.Execute(); Any advice is much appreciated.

Hello. I'm a real newbie - using Access 2003 front end and connecting to SQL Server 2005 ODBC. I'm having trouble accessing functions through access. I've built the following function:

I understand now I can create a view of the function Simply by using the function name in my FROM statement. However I get an error that arguments provided do not match parameters required. However, I'm not getting the prompt to enter my criterion. Is my error in my function statement? I can't save the view. I also understand I could use a pass-through query. Is there some sort of guidance or tutorial on that to which you could point me? Thanks for your time.
I have the following stored procedure in sql server 2000:
(@nsn varchar 15 int, @item_nam varchar 255 ouput ) AS declare @stockquantity int
select @stockquantity = stockquantity from inventory where stockquantity = 0
select @item_nam = item_nam from inventory where nsn = @nsn
delete from inventory where nsn = @nsn and stockquantity = 0 GO
what would the vb.net code be to display the item_nam if the query was successful in deleting a record, but would then retutrn a different mesage if the item was not deleted becasuse the stockquantity was not equal to zero. Right now it returns the item_nam even if the record wsa not deleted. ANy help is much appreciated.
I don't know if this is possible. However, what i am attempting to do isusing C#'s window forms. I open up an excell sheet stored in my windowsform. The excel sheet stores names of the stored procedures in thatdatabase. I want to know if it's possible to click on that storedprocedure to open up a link to display the code of that stored procedure ofcourse in a read only mode.any suggestions....

I have looked all around and I am having no luck trying to figure out how to alter a stored procedure within an asp.net application.Here is a short snippet of my code, but it keeps erroring out on me.Try myCommand.CommandText = "Using " & DatabaseName & vbNewLine & Me.txtStoredProcedures.Text myCommand.ExecuteNonQuery() myTran.Commit()Catch ex As Exception myTran.Rollback() Response.Write(ex.ToString())End Try The reason for this is because I have to propagate stored procedures across many databases and was hoping to write an application for it.Basically the database name is coming from a loop statement and I just want to keep on going through all the databases that I have chosen and have the stored procedure updated (altered) automatically So i thought the code above was close, but it keeps catching on me. Anybody's help would be greatly appreciated!!!
I am using vs2005, vc++, sql2005 and trying to write a complex extended stored procedure.
It seems I must use switch clrafe for my executable to deploy to sql.
But with clrafe, I can no longer use such c code tools such as typedef structures and pointer manipulation!
But I need to do these things to translate a contiuous block of binary data into a series of field/value pairs to be written to the sql server!!! Doing so externally would mean a severe drop in throughput: going back to the server for each field instead of all as one block!
Is there a technique, or pragma command to allow "unmanaged" c code to reside in a sql extended stored procedure?
I'm not sure if this is really the right place for this but it is related to my earlier post. Please do say if you think I should move it.
I created a Stored procedure which I want to run from Visual basic (I am using 2008 Express with SQL Sever 2005 Express)
I have looked through many post and the explaination of the sqlConection class on the msdn site but I am now just confussed.
Here is my SP
ALTER PROCEDURE uspSelectBarItemID2
(
@BarTabID INT,
@DrinkID INT,
@ReturnBarItemID INT OUTPUT
)
AS
BEGIN
SELECT @ReturnBarItemID = barItemID
FROM [Bar Items]
WHERE (BarTabID = @BarTabID) AND (DrinkID = @DrinkID)
END
In VB I want to pass in the BarTabID and DrinkID varibles (Which Im grabbing from in as int variables) to find BarItemID in the same table and return it as an int.
What I dont understand is do I have to create a unique connection to my database because it is already liked with a dataset to my project with a number of BindingSources and TableAdapters.
Is there an easier way, could I dispense with SP and just use SQL with the VB code, I did think the SP would be neater.

It just won't accept that bold line in the code below and even when I comment it just to cheat, it still gives me an error about the Stored Procedure. Here's the line of code: // Define data objects SqlConnection conn; SqlCommand comm; // Initialize connection string connectionString = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings[ "pay"].ConnectionString; // Initialize connection conn = new SqlConnection(connectionString); // Create command comm = new SqlCommand("UpdatePaymentDetails", conn); //comm.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure; // Add command parameters comm.Parameters.Add("PaymentID", System.Data.SqlDbType.Int); comm.Parameters["PaymentID"].Value = paymentID; comm.Parameters.Add("NewPayment", System.Data.SqlDbType.VarChar, 50); comm.Parameters["NewPayment"].Value = newPayment; comm.Parameters.Add("NewInvoice", System.Data.SqlDbType.VarChar, 50); comm.Parameters["NewInvoice"].Value = newInvoice; comm.Parameters.Add("NewAmount", System.Data.SqlDbType.Money); comm.Parameters["NewAmount"].Value = newAmount; comm.Parameters.Add("NewMargin", System.Data.SqlDbType.VarChar, 50); comm.Parameters["NewMargin"].Value = newMargin; comm.Parameters.Add("NewProfit", System.Data.SqlDbType.Money); comm.Parameters["NewProfit"].Value = newProfit; comm.Parameters.Add("NewEditDate", System.Data.SqlDbType.DateTime); comm.Parameters["NewEditDate"].Value = newEditDate; comm.Parameters.Add("NewQStatus", System.Data.SqlDbType.VarChar, 50); comm.Parameters["NewQStatus"].Value = newQStatus; comm.Parameters.Add("NewStatus", System.Data.SqlDbType.VarChar, 50); comm.Parameters["NewStatus"].Value = newStatus; // Enclose database code in Try-Catch-Finally try { conn.Open(); comm.ExecuteNonQuery(); }
