I have been asked by developers if there is any advantage in processing multiple clustering models simultaneously by using AMO and multiple threads as against processing one after another.
I have limited experience with Analysis Services but based on my reading I don't see this method providing any advantage.
Does anyone have any recommendations or advice? The system Enterprise Edition running on an x86 Server with 2 dual core processors and 4GB of RAM. Would the answer alter if the server running x64 version of SQL Server and Windows.

I've been using some of the data mining capability in SQL 2005, and have been very impressed. But I've mostly been using decision trees/neural nets, and now have a problem that would seem to require clustering, but I'm not sure how to approach it...
Have list of parts by serial number and part number, and in a data cube have crunched a bunch of data to give me each parts' relative reliability.
So what I can do so far is to ask the cube "for a certain part number, which specific serial numbers are our 'bad actors'", ie have an unacceptably high failure rate compared to the average, by standard deviation.
The next logical question would be... what factors do these particular "bad" parts have in common? Environmental exposure, usage rates, a particular repair facility, etc etc. I have that type of raw data in other tables, no problem.
So what it seems like I would want to do is force a clustering algorithm to choose a certain segment of parts as a cluster and then use DM to determine what characteristics those parts share. Then we could see if there was any corrective action we could take, or whether we should just chuck those parts in the bin (if the DM didn't find any reasonable relationships between the parts). But I don't know enough about the clustering/association type DM to figure it out.
How does the group think I could approach this?

What kind of criterion is used by MS clustering algorithm to determine the number of clusters when 0 is specified in the algorithm parameters?
The problem is that I find automatically defined cluster number somehow strange, especially when expactation maximization algorithm is used. I tried to "manually" calculate optimal cluster numbers in my models using bayesian information criterion and the one by Akaike and received more understandable results.

I have no problem getting the total number of pages for reports rendered in image formats from the web service, but I can't figure out how to get the number of pages for reports rendered in HTML.
I've always been under the impression that the Report Manager that ships with SSRS uses the same web service (reportservice.asmx) and IT can get the number of HTML pages, so it has to be possible.
Does anyone know how to do it?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI invoke xp_cmdshell proc from inside a stored procedure on a 2-node active/passive SQL 2005 SP2 Standard cluster. Depending on which server the xp_cmdshell gets executed on I need to pass different arguments in the shell command. I thought I could use host_name() function to get the runtime process server, however, I am finding that it's not behaving correctly. In one example I know my active node is server2, but the host_name() function is returning server1. The only thing that I could possible explain this is that the MSDTC cluster group is not always on the same active node as the SQL server group and in the case I am talking about the cluster groups are in this mode (differnet nodes). Does the xp_cmdshell get executed by the SQL active node or the MDTC active node? And what is the best way to find out which server is going to run my xp_cmdshell?

Perhaps another by product of this is that if I run select host_name() from the Studio Management query window i get different results depending on which server I am running the Studio Management on. On server1 I get server1 and on server 2 I get server 2, all the while server2 is the active node. I need a different function that will always let me determine the correct server that'll be running the xp_cmdshell...
Edit 2: I guess I could determine the running host inside the command shell itself, but I am curious to see if i can do it (cleaner) from SQL.

We have 2 env. : Testing and Production, both are running Windows 2003 Enterprise Server with SQL Server 2005. The difference is Testing is NOT running Windows cluster but Production do so, what is the best way to transfer a database from testing to production?
We have another systems that both testing and production are running on NON-cluster and we use backup/restore to transfer the database, can it apply in this case.
And I found that there are a tools called DTC, which can transfer all DB objects from one DB to another, is it a best way to transfer between non-cluster and cluster env.?
During the installation of Adding node to a SQL Server failover cluster(On passive node) getting error like.. The MOF compiler could not connect with the WMI server. This is either because of a semantic error such as an incompatibility with the existing WMI repository or an actual error such as the failure of the WMI server to start.We run the below commands but didn’t get any resolution & got the same above error .

I am in the process of moving databases from a SQL 2005 Standard version to a 2-node 2014 cluster.All of my 2005 databases back up successfully.They all restore without issue except for one database that has a full text catalog. I get this message

I went as far as giving the folder full access to everyone temporarily and received the same error.
I ran the Advanced cluster preparation for a new sql instance on an existing cluster.
Slq Server 2012.
After is completed, it was successful, I realized I specified the wrong Instance Root directory.
Is it possible to remove what the preparation installed? Or is it possible to change the root directory?
Can I build a cluster by adding the cluster service, then the SQL instances, then add the other nodes and their passive SQL instances?I would lean to building the cluster first, the add the SQL instances.

can we join a node in a windows cluster which is already in a different cluster?
We have this requirement as we need to setup readable secondary ( always on AG) on the third node.
We are planning to change all IPs of PRODUCTION Failover Cluster Setup. In my cluster setup ... we have 2 Physical Nodes with windows-2008, Roles are MSDTC and SQL-2008R2.
IP change for:
1. Both Nodes(Physical)
2. MSDTC
3. SQL Server
4. windows Cluster
So Almost... All IPs are going to change.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Sharepoint integrated Reporting Services server. I have created Report models based on Data Sources. I then created Report Builder Reports to make some BI Charts and Graphs. They look great and work fine for a few days then all of a sudden I get a rsItemNotFound error saying it cannot find the Report Model which is clearly there.
An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted)
The item 'IT Reports/PWPDB_Prod_Model.smdl' cannot be found. (rsItemNotFound)
If I open the Report Model from Report Builder it loads the data fields, but also fails to run reports with the same error
If I try to regenerate the model from the library I get an error stating that the model needs to be a generated model.
The model specified must be a generated model.

Even after rebooting all of the servers in the farm I get the same messages. I can regenerate a model from the data source and it doesn't work. I am seeing no errors in the logs of my app server at all regarding reporting services.
It looks as though I will have to de-integrate Reporting Services as it is not viable for a business critical application.
Need a little help here. I would like to utilize the ad-hoc capabilities of Reporting Services to grant the users of one of my web apps the ability to create all sorts of crazy reports that I don't have to develop.
Basically, this web app is a flexible survey engine. My vision is to have the users select questions from a survey that they wish to generate statistics on. My application would create a view in the database that transposes the data into a tabular format. They would then get kicked over to the reporting services web client, where they can regenerate a report model, and then fire up report builder to create their crazy statiscal abomination. (Aren't users grand!)
This process sounds wonderful, but I'm not aware of any way to get the report model to regenerate and pickup any views. I can get it to pick up any new tables that are added as long as a primary key is created for them, but I want the automated dynamic data rendering that comes with a view. Hopefully, some of you out there have tried to do this already and have some ideas that may help me. Thanks!

How can I estimate occuracy of model created with Time Series? How can I compare accuracy of model created with Time Series with models created with Decision Trees and Neural Network algorithms?

Just want to make things perfectly work and make the most of our fantastic SQL Server 2005 Data Mining Engine. Can any of you here give me some super advices on the validation of the mining models. As we always see, the 3 aspects of a mining model are: Score, Population correct, and Predict Probability. So the question is: How can we combine these three aspects to best judge the mining models by being able to tell which model is the best one? And to what extent can we really trust these mining models?
These are very important before we can actually bring the models into work to convince other people who have no ideas what are going on with these models. Yes, we just want to convince them with the results of these models and make the most of them and best help them getting the most from their business operations etc.

I am having a problem deploying or manually uploading smdl files to reporting services. I can upload anyother type of file without a problem. (dsv, ds, etc.) However, when i try to upload a smdl file, I get
"The permissions granted to user '<me>' are insufficient for performing this operation. (rsAccessDenied)"
